I see a lot of people not liking the new little mermaid live action casting because Ariel is black and I think that’s stupid people should care that they casted a person who couldn’t sing as Ursula and also the movie is going to be bad not because of the main actress but because Disney is going to fuck up the plot like they have with every single live action remake
Yeah, honestly. A black version of The Little Mermaid had potential imo, but the more I think about it, and as I look at the cast, I just see issues.
They didn't even make Ariel's family a black family, and, not to sound like a hotep or anti-divestor or whatever it is, but I don't love the subliminal of a black girl forfeiting her culture, family, her magical mermaid-ness and her voice for a white prince. I just feel like that's a little bit odd...
Tumblr media
I don't get why they couldn't have set it in the West Indies and had a mostly black/Caribbean cast? I feel like that setting would feel right. I guess my hopes were too high though.
+Awkwafina as Scuttle and Daveed Diggs as Sebastian... I mean first of all, I don't love the casting, but second of all I AM AFRAID TO SEE THESE CGI FISH TALKING after the Lion King 2019 bro 💀 And this time, they'll be the minority so I feel like it'll be weirder to see their unemotional eyes.
Tumblr media
AYY AYY AYY THAT RIGHT THERE'S A DINGLEHOPPER
Tumblr media
This ting ominously speaking shaky Patois imagine 💀
Tumblr media
AYO IT'S LIVE ACTION FLOUNDER 💀💀💀💀
And that's not even discussing the actual movie itself, that's just the surface level stuff. I'm with you in thinking that the actual content of the movie will be watered down, unless they plan to change the story a lot but I don't see them doing that too much. They have said that Ariel will have a little more power in this version, so whatever they do with that, and the additional run-time, we can only hope will actually be impactful and inspiring.
Sidebar: I love the original, but Eric always reminds me of that guy from the episode of Bojack where Diane goes to Vietnam and pretends to not speak English... Like, bro, you're literally happy to basically talk to yourself the whole time and never even pass her a piece of paper or something 😬? But yeah, in a live-action version, I feel like it will be harder to suspend the disbelief that Eric never thought to get a piece of paper. Or maybe he will? But then I don't see how Ursula could intervene in that case.
I personally feel like there's a certain wonder and magic to stylised animation that 'live-action' (cause Lion King 2019 was 'live' animals right...? It was an animated remake, just realistic) versions don't really capture. I kind of remember enjoying Jungle Book (2016) when it came out, but I think they attempted to make it less magical and a bit more intimidating/gritty in the remake, which kind of worked (though, it's not something I'd go out of my way to rewatch).
Coral reefs, mermaids and romance though? I don't really see them executing that in a live-action well. Like, maybe it's just me, but the OG was a lot of jokes/light-heartedness (aside from the ending, which I think has potential to be really cool & terrifying in the live-action version), I don't really feel like that charm will translate when you try and bring it into the real world.
ALSO SORRY I rewatched parts of the movie I don't remember as well to make this post, not Ursula calling Ariel "THE LITTLE TRAMP" cause she was about to get kissed 💀💀. That's sort of another area where I feel like it'll be harder to suspend disbelief when they're trying to set it in reality with this medium (?)... if Ariel, looking like Halle Bailey, was trying to kiss Eric, irl that mf wouldn't hesitate, what are we even talking about 🤣🤣?!
But anyways, I'll be going to watch it, both to show some love for black female lead and because I love going to the cinema. The racists can keep their "go woke, go broke" shit, we not going broke, baby.
To finish, I know people find it annoying but I hope they at least put hints of a environmental conservation spin on it, since coral reefs like the one Ariel lives in are dying out :(

Disney's upcoming movie releases
Disney is releasing many movies in cinemas and on the Disney+ streaming service. Family-friendly prequels and live-action remakes of cherished cartoon masterpieces are also included. The business adjusted its release calendar for future movies from its different studios this week. To view every title coming out in 2019, scroll down!
The Little Mermaid will be remade in live-action by Disney and released in theaters the following year. The movie, which stars Halle Bailey (The Color Purple, Grown-ish), tells the tale of Ariel, a mermaid princess who strikes a bargain with a sea witch to transform into a human so she may experience life on land and fall in love.
Jonah Hauer-King plays Prince Eric in the movie, while Melissa McCarthy, who starred in Bridesmaids, plays Ursula. Oscar winner Javier Bardem plays King Triton, Daveed Diggs plays Sebastian in Hamilton, Jacob Tremblay plays Flounder in Room, and Awkwafina, the breakthrough star of Crazy Rich Asians, plays Scuttle.
Based on the adored animation classic, Aladdin will soon be a live-action film. Guy Ritchie is the director, Mena Massoud plays Aladdin, and Naomi Scott plays Jasmine. In this rough retelling of the Arabian Nights, Aladdin encounters Princess Jasmine and discovers a magic lamp (Naomi Scott). He only fully sees his value once she unintentionally releases a giant genie.
Both fresh recordings of the songs and a fantastic score by eight-time Academy Award winner Alan Menken are featured in the movie. It also has many DVD extras, such as an entertaining interactive 3D tour inside the Genie's lamp and a virtual trip on a magic carpet.
Disney transports you deep into the African wilderness with The Lion King, their 32nd animated film. It relates to the tale of Simba, a brave little cub who will grow up to rule the jungle. One of the all-time top-grossing animated movies is this one. It has music by Elton John and Hans Zimmer and a cast of believable animal characters.
The Lion King, directed by Jon Favreau, stars Donald Glover, Seth Rogen, Chiwetel Ejiofor, James Earl Jones, and Beyonce Knowles-Carter as the voice actors. The successful animated feature Finding Nemo was followed up with Finding Dory. In a quest to find her family, she reunites everyone's favorite forgetful blue tang, Dory (voiced by Ellen DeGeneres).
Andrew Stanton, who co-wrote and directed the first, is in charge of this. Thomas Newman, a composer for movies including Skyfall, The Help, and WALL-E, also contributed music to the movie. This tale of a fish in and out of water is full of emotional weight and recognizable characters, even though the plot doesn't attempt to rival Finding Nemo in terms of brains. Disney Pixar is a resounding winner.
Captain Jack, a down-on-his-luck character, senses the winds of misfortune blowing his way in Disney's newest swashbuckling adventure forcefully. He must now travel a dangerous sea in search of the fabled Trident of Poseidon, assisted by a clever and attractive astronomer and a headstrong young man in the British navy. As the swashbuckling anti-hero Jack Sparrow, Johnny Depp makes a comeback. His new castmates include Captain Barbossa, played by Geoffrey Rush, and the villainous Captain Salazar, played by Javier Bardem.
The first trailer for Star Wars: Episode IX, the ninth and final movie in the Skywalker saga, has been made available by Disney. The movie recounts the Resistance's struggle against the Galactic Empire and the malevolent First Order under the command of Kylo Ren (Adam Driver). Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Anthony Daniels, Domhnall Gleeson, Billy Dee Williams, and Naomi Ackie, a debutant, appear in the movie. J.J. Abrams, who also authored the script, is directing it.
One of the most well-liked attractions in Disney history is The Haunted Mansion. It is a classic and has been around for over 50 years. In 2023, a movie adaptation of the attraction is scheduled to debut, starring LaKeith Stanfield, Rosario Dawson, Tiffany Haddish, Owen Wilson, Jared Leto, and Jamie Lee Curtis, among others.
The narrative centers on Gabbie (Dawson), a single mother who moves into a mansion in New Orleans and learns about the building's extensive history of hauntings. She asks a priest, a historian, and tour guides to help exorcise her house.

An, Edd n Eddy: Canceled and Deleted Episodes (Part 1?)
Tumblr media
An, Edd n Eddy, a fanmade show, was in production from September 2019 and it hadn't been released until July 18, 2020 during an ongoing pandemic, and here's a pretty good reason why too. An approval by my parents was impossible at the time, especially Dad's.
An, Edd n Eddy at McDonald's Playground managed to be released on YouTube on that day because of my brother, Quinn! That episode was made on September 2019 when we've planned to take a picture outside Starbucks, but ended up taking a picture at McDonald's instead. This episode was the only one out of the 3 An, Edd n Eddy forgotten episodes to be released. Sure, that episode was overdue or out-of-date due to my changes of An, Edd n Eddy in 2020 (and the pandemic), but it was still good.
I decided to gather up the episodes I wanna show you that lost its or didn't end up in production due to me forgetting or some problems, but let's get straight into it!
Tumblr media
Edd the Pouch Daddy was an episode based on Double D The Pouch Daddy, which was my alternative version of Edd who carries Little Edd. It may be ridiculous, but I love it!
The story all started when An gave birth to "LITERALLY" a sperm and an ova (egg) due to radiation poisoning. They sang Mad TV Sesame Street songs before they head to the hospital!
The hospital in Mesa was where my dad died and we recorded the scene where Edd had to go through surgery.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These pictures I drew were the progress where Edd got the surgery to get his pouch inserted, along with an ova. That's how the development of Edd Jr. began.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yeah the development was ridiculous from newborn Edd to toddler Edd in EXACTLY 9 months! How ridiculous!
Edd notices and realizes that little Edd was coming to the world, and that's how Little Edd saw the world, and his young dad. He was born while the police investigated the scene.
It was Alien D trying to help Elmo make a dirty bomb. Elmo was of course Elmo TMX, and he was sent away.
That episode was almost parodied and ripped off a Mad TV episode, but it wasn't the first one being ripped off.
An episode had the song about the prison parody. That episode was also the time that Eddy and Sarah finally had a daughter named Clara.
The last "planned" episode was about the kids of the cul-de-sac moving away because animation was officially coming for An, Edd n Eddy and ready to be made public.
These episodes were all backfired and canceled.
There were also episodes that was going to feature the first appearance of our cool Ed!
Tumblr media
"Swiggity swag, what's in the bag?" - Ed
Ed was going to be part of animated short where An and Eddy tried their lucks with fortune cookies. Ed was one of An's lucky fortune cookies where he was described as handsome, and just like her. That's how they both had a baby together.
One episode was about An, Edd n Eddy going inside a shelter through a rough cold storm. Sarah told them about her brother coming over. Who didn't we expect, Sarah?
Don't Stop Believing, named after a song by Journey, was an episode where An, Edd n Eddy and their friends tried to catch a unicorn named Dave from Shark Puppet. Ed would walk in the park saying "Swiggity swag! What's in the bag? I'm gonna walk around the park today!" (Definitely wanna use that script again for newer episodes of An, Edd n Eddy!)
That episodes was also gonna have a first appearance of Ariana the mermaid, but was canceled!
Here are the title card of our other forgotten episodes
Tumblr media
We tried to make that episode on New Year's eve. :(
Tumblr media
We tried mentioning that title on an Anti-piracy screen video, and one of the practices we did while the train was moving, but that title card was out of date, anyways.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
That was supposed to be Bella's first appearance. I feel bad...

The Little Mermaid 2019 Halle Bailey Cast As Disney's Ariel
Ever since The Little Mermaid casting came out people have been sharing their thoughts on Halle Bailey cast as the famous redhead mermaid Ariel in the media. I’m going to share my thoughts. BTW this post took me days and many hours to make.
I will be including other Disney Princesses in this post. Jasmine, Pocahontas, Esmeralda, Mulan and Tiana only because they are 2d animated aka Traditional Animation. Brave, Frozen, Tangled, Moana aren’t made in 2d animation.
The Science and It Took Place at inscert place here.
Fans have been including the ‘science excuse’ and different ‘the story takes place’ excuse. I’m not going to use that. I know every mermaid isn’t white. So many mermaid stories from different cultures so there’s more than just white mermaids. This post won’t be including ‘the science and takes place at here’ . I’m talking about only the Disney version. Ok i’ll start my post now.
Halley Bailey As Ariel
Halle Bailey is a beautiful black woman, great singer and I’m pretty sure she’ll be a great actress. Image source in tag.
Tumblr media
Sorry I’m not trying to be mean but I don’t think Halle should be cast as Ariel and I will say why. Please calm down. First I would like to say is remember i’m ONLY talking about the DISNEY VERSION of The Little Mermaid and NOT the original story by Christian Anderson.
The Little Mermaid 1989
Disney The Little Mermaid first came out in 1989. The first time Ariel appeared on screen she was a white mermaid/later human and still was white. She didn’t appear on screen as a poc mermaid/human. She was also white in the 2 movie sequels and in the 90′s tv show.

Princesses of Color Including Esmeralda
Now i’m fine with having a Disney Princess Of Color. There’s nothing wrong with that. We don’t always need a white princess. I truly believe it’s good for adults, teens, and kids to see princesses from different cultures and color. They can see themselves in that characters, wanting to be like them, or just be them. Looks, dreams, love, wanting to see the world. Every girl at one time in their life wanted to be their favorite princess.
Princess Jasmine The 1st Main Famous Princess of Color
When 1992 Aladdin came out Jasmine was the first non-white princess. She looked so different from Ariel and I loved it. She started ‘A Whole New World’ for future female princess of color characters being introduced over the years.
Tumblr media
Pocahontas (1995),
Tumblr media
Esmeralda (1996) when I was young Esmeralda was still considered an original disney princess.
Tumblr media
 Mulan (1998)
Tumblr media
 Tiana (2009)
Tumblr media
For some unknown reason Esmeralda, Shanti, Tiger Lily, and Alice were no longer on the Disney Princess List. All these characters are great.
What If Disney Didn’t Make Ariel Originally White In The 2d Animation Film. 2 Examples Below
If Ariel wasn't white in the original disney 1989 film, movie sequels, and 90's TV show then I wouldn't want a white actress playing her in the live action.
First Example: If I saw Ariel as a person of color or mermaid of color in the original 1989 Disney version like the right image below then I would only want a person of color actress to play her in the live action. Halle would be perfect. She would be #MyAriel. BTW whoever made the image on the right below it’s really good and we need a gif of it. Image source in tag.
Tumblr media
Second Example: If the original 1989 animated Disney film created Ariel with green skin with a pink fin when she was in her mermaid form. Later on in the movie when she's turned into human by Ursula and later by Triton she's a person of color then I would want to see it that way in the live action. They would be #MyAriel
Ariel as a mermaid
Tumblr media
Ariel as a human
Tumblr media
Halle would be perfect for both. Zoe so beautiful.
Feelings Of Character Change
I’ll admit when I first heard the news Halle was cast as Ariel I was disappointed. I was looking forward to seeing the 1989 white redhead live on screen. I don’t blame TLM fans being angry. Picture you hear that Disney is making a live version of The Princess and the Frog. You’re all excited and jumping for joy that your favorite princess who you see yourself in was finally coming to the BIG SCREEN LIVE.
Tumblr media
You find out later that Tiana will be played by a white actress.
Tumblr media
You would be disappointed and angry. Everyone knows Tiana is black not white or any other color. She was black in the 2009 traditionally animated film. If they make The Princess and the Frog live then I want to see a black actress cast as her. 2009 animated Tiana will always be #MyTiana. I feel the same with all the other princess characters. #MyJasmine #MyPocahontas #MyEsmeralda #MyMulan and yes even #MyMoana
Tumblr media
Adding To The Movie
If you have seen the new live action Aladdin then you know they added an extra character who was Jasmine's best friend and future wife of Genie. I have no problem with them adding a character or 2 to the story. They can even give Ariel another best friend who’s a mermaid or human. Flounder doesn’t have to be her only friend.
Tumblr media
A Little Trivia Of The Little Mermaid 90's TV Show.
Ariel did have a latina friend who was in the animated tv show. Her name was Gabriella and she was inspired by Gabriella Angelina Bommino who was a fan of TLM show.
Tumblr media
Disney Remakes
If Disney is going to be making live remakes of the old disney classic movies then they should make it like it originally was in the animated film and that includes all the disney princesses. It’s alright to make some changes like adding a character or song but keep the characters like they originally are in the animated films. I’m still going to go see the movie because I want to see how it’ll turn out. Plus Ariel is my favorite princesses and very close to my heart.

CASE STUDIES AND INSPIRATIONS.
Sleeping Beauty
Disney’s notorious and classic movie, Sleeping Beauty, was released in theaters on January 29th, 1959. The movie centers around a young princess, Aurora, who was cursed at a young age to prick her finger on a sewing wheel and to fall into a deep sleep on the day of her sixteenth birthday. At the end of the story, the Prince comes to her aid, by getting rid of this curse with a kiss. While it has been re-released four times, it is also the second highest grossing movie of 1969.
The writing for Sleeping Beauty began in 1951, after Cinderella was released and the success it followed. Some of the elements that are found in Sleeping Beauty were taken from Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, although that doesn’t come as much of a surprise. Alongside Snow White and the Seven Dwarves and Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty was the third fairy tale movie released by Disney, and the last to be released for some time, before returning to them with The Little Mermaid in 1989.
During the production of the movie, there was a series of replacements of directors. While the movie was originally led by director Wilfred Jackson, he had a heart attack in 1953, leaving the work to the directing animator, Larson. Disney would eventually replace Larson with Clyde Geronimi.
With this movie, Disney wanted the “film’s design aesthetic to be completely unique to anything the studio had previously crafted.” The idea for this movie was to go with a “moving tapestry,” in a sense, as if it was a moving illustration. This was a result of art director John Hench’s seeing the 16th century unicorn tapestries artwork at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Disney also wanted the work to be as detailed as possible with, both, the character designs and the backgrounds, this work falling on background painter, Eyvind Earle, who worked in the studio for only three years.
And this, specifically, is exactly why I wanted to include Sleeping Beauty as one of my case studies for my animation. While the overall aesthetic, color palettes and style behind Disney’s Sleeping Beauty resembles the one I envisioned for Mavis and her world, Eyvind Earle’s masterpieces are one of the things that stood out to me the most. While he had previously worked on projects such as Peter Pan (1953), For Whom the Bulls Toil (1953) and Lady and the Tramp (1955), he “truly left his mark” with Disney’s Sleeping Beauty. He was greatly notorious for his “lush landscapes” and strong verticals. After Disney saw his work, he decided that, instead of having the background artists follow on to the animators’ footsteps, he’d have the opposite, where Earle would lead with his paintings, and the animators would follow in with his style. As a matter of fact, “the animators found it difficult, even impossible, to translate Earle’s detail-laden style into viable character designs.”
Tumblr media
Sadly, the movie was a “financial flop.” Not necessarily because of its art direction, but because, as author Bob Thomas noted, “the emphasis was on visual beauty and spectacular effects.” Furthermore, the movie was “released in Super Technirama 70mm, which means there was a higher level of detail and stylisation,” being a huge step forward in the animation field at the time. It also featured a significant transformation in terms of animating, where the traditional “round imagery” turned to a flatter and more graphic sophistication.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Similarly, in terms of style, I also wanted to include Disney’s One Hundred and One Dalmatians (1961) and Pinocchio (1940).

Thumbelina
The movie Thumbelina was originally released on March 30th, 1994, by Warner Bros. It was directed and produced by director Don Bluth. While the movie was produced in the 1990s, the story itself originates from Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale, Thumbelina.
The story features a tiny girl born out of a tulip, after a woman struggled to have a child of her own. Thumbelina herself, like the name suggests, is the size of a thumb. Throughout the story, Thumbelina learns to love herself by undergoing several adventures. The production featured renowned voice actors, including Carol Channing, John Hurt, and even Jodi Benson, who’d notably voiced Disney’s Ariel in The Little Mermaid, in 1989. Some of the animators that worked on this movie were Paul J. Kelly, Jacques Muller and Mark Pudleiner.
Tumblr media
When producing the movie, Merlin and Media Assetshave offered to spend 6 million dollars in the production of Thumbelina, as well as A Troll in Central Park. Unfortunately, it wasn’t as successful as it was planned to be, gaining almost half of what was put into the production of the movie. While I personally remember liked the movie as a child because of its colorful aesthetics and in the way that the animals’ features were overly exaggerated, it was also very colorful, while having a, somewhat, darker theme, when it came to the presentation of a fairy-tale world. In a sense, it stayed true to the darker hints that Hans Christian Andersen left behind his stories. Also, while the colors are plenty and to be seen everywhere throughout the movie, they’re also quite muted, and not as bright as they’d usually be for an animation that is aimed at children or at a younger audience.
Nonetheless, aside from the style and the use of colors, I also included this movie as one of my case studies because of the way that the creatures are shaped and presented. In a way, they serve as some sense of inspiration when I work with Mavis’ own universe, in terms of anthropomorphic and normal animals.

Spirited Away
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The movie was released in 2001, by the notorious Studio Ghibli. It was produced by the Studio Ghibli co-CEO Hayao Miyazaki. After releasing the greatly acclaimed Princess Mononoke, he immediately began working on this new project, after he found inspiration during an outing with some of his friends and their daughters. At that time, he noticed how girls were reading manga, and how the latter were often times focused on romance, and subjects of the sort. This made him think, ultimately asking himself:
“Is there possibly more that we can offer the young girls of this country?”
And so, the idea for Spirited Away, originally called The Spiriting Away of Sen and Chihiro, was born. The story follows the adventures of a young ten-year old girl through a “strange world of spirits,” where she needs to “find the will to live and save her parents,” who, in the meantime, had been turned into pigs. The movie began with a budget of 15 million dollars, while Disney agreed to finance 10% of its production costs. After its release, Spirited Away had a massive success, way more than the Studio could have ever imagined. In fact, “by the spring of 2002, the film would go on to shatter the previous record helf by ‘Titanic’ at the Japanese box-office.” Furthermore, “Spirited Away's $235 million not only sunk Titanic, but also set the film as the first non-American film to make $200 million outside of the US,” surpassing Princess Mononoke’s $155 million’s box office, back in 1997.
This movie is, to this day, the highest grossing movie in Japanese history. Additionally, frequent director of notorious Pixar movies, John Lasseter, was assigned with the task of Disney’s creative consultant in the US release of Spirited Away. This was also a key factor in the commercial success of the movie outside of Japan, as John Lasseter, aside from being a highly renowned animator, was also a huge fan of Miyazaki.
Tumblr media
* Miyazaki is also very known for his use of watercolors. Furthermore, he often times includes anti-war, pro-environmentalism and feminist themes into his works.
In terms of the animation itself, Miyazaki wanted to explore the use of computer technology. However, while he and his team wanted to work with this media in particular, he also didn’t want it to use too much. Instead, he wanted to “keep the technology at a level to enhance the story, [and] not steal the whole show.”
“Studio Ghibli has forever shifted Japanese popular culture through their unique and constant quality storytelling coupled with beautiful visuals.”
Similarly, in terms of style and color use that I like to associate with the world and animation that I have in mind for Mavis and her own universe, I thought of Studio Ghibli’s Kiki’s Delivery Service (1989).

Point of Interest: Why Disney’s Live-Action Hercules Needs Appropriate Casting
Tumblr media
I want to make one thing perfectly clear, I am speaking on this topic as a Caucasian male so when it comes to me suggesting that these live-action remakes should be more regionally appropriate than their
animated counterparts, I am speaking both as a fan and as someone who wants to see these characters be appropriately represented in these live-action movies.
Okay so Disney Animated Movies tend to make it clear when they’re set in different locations. From the more obvious search as Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, The Jungle Book and Mulan, to the more obscure such as Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Tangled and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
These cultural difference are shown not only in the locations but also the design of the characters.  Asian characters are distinctly Asian, Black characters are clearly Black characters and if they’re European there’s usually at least one character with the accent of the country.
However, Hercules is one of those rare anomalies where not only are our main characters not made to look or sound distinctly Greek, despite the majority of the movie being set in Ancient Greece with the only other locations being the Greek versions of Heaven and Hell, Mount Olympus and the Underworld.
Now granted ,the 1992 animated Aladdin did not have one Arabian voice actor and was instead an entirely Caucasian cast. But the 1998 Mulan featured a prominently Asian cast, something which the upcoming live-action adaptation will be doing, and the 2019 live-action Aladdin featured an almost entire cast of Arabian-Indian heritage with the only exceptions being Will Smith as the Genie and Billy Manguson as a prince of a foreign land and it was the first time Disney spotlighted the importance of regional appropriate casts outside of the MCU.
With that being said, despite the 1996 Hercules having its minor ensemble cast specifically being Greek based on looks, and the Greek Gods having a variety of different appearances therefore not necessarily representing any specific culture and rather fictitious deities, There is nothing specifically defining our leads Hercules and Megara as Greek other than Hercules having a tan and the way they dress.
Enter a chance to not only remedy this but also shine a spotlight on Greek culture just as Aladdin represented Arabian culture and how Mulan looks set to represent Chinese culture.
Since the announcement of the Russo Brothers are working on a live-action version of Hercules there have been several different suggestions as to who could portray the live-action version of these classic characters. But while some seem both appropriate in terms of representation and also acting ability...some just seem to be pitched because fans of the actors want to see them as these characters.
While some fans are gagging over the idea of Ariana Grande potentially being cast as Meg after she effectively auditioned with a stellar rendition of “I Won’t Say I’m in Love” on the Disney Sing-Along, she has never once developed a level of sass close to what made Meg so great as a character. Not only is she the anti-damsel in distress but she is cynical and fiery.
Reversely, as much as I know how well Anna Kendrick can sing and act in a very dry and sassy manner, she is nowhere close to being regionally appropriate to the Greek setting that Hercules is set in. I mean yes the animated Meg does look Caucasian, but in a Greek setting and a Greek mythology movie, she should at least look the part.
I find myself saying if they take Anna Kendrick’s acting ability and combine it with Ariana Grande’s look and both their singing abilities, that’s the perfect live-action Megara right there.
As for Hercules, as much as it seems obvious to cast either Chris Evans or Hemsworth as the titular bulky hero, not only is it too close to their Marvel superheroes, but Hemsworth is still portraying Thor at least until the upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder.
Herc is also technically supposed to be a teenager at the time of this movie, with the movie’s climax taking place 18 years after Herc’s birth and the Hercules animated series taking place when Herc is in school.
For that reason, I like the idea of Noah Centineo playing the Demigod hero, not only does he have the fame and “aw shucks!” personality to play the naive hero, but as he is a couple of years younger than Ariana, the dynamic of the two characters from the original would still be there.
Yes I know neither actor is from Greece, but Ariana is of Italian decent and Centineo is Italian, Dutch, Native American and Puerta Rican. Maybe Disney can find more regionally appropriate actors, but if these two were cast I would not complain.
Again I am not making this post because I feel it is a hot-button topic or a neccesity for the Mouse House to do, let’s face it they have the revenue currently to make a clunker, but Disney live-action is making great strides in representation recently with Aladdin and Mulan, race-bending Ariel to be at least more regionally appropriate to the Atlantic Polynesian location of The Little Mermaid similar to Aquaman, and the announcement that a live-action Lilo & Stitch is in development promising Hawaiian representation with Polynesian actors, it stands to reason that representing Greek culture in a movie that details Greek mythology set in Ancient Greece, should have Greek representation in its cast.
So what do you guys think? Post your comments and check out more Points of Interest as well as other posts.

The Little Mermaid 2019 Disney's Prince Eric
So I just found out that Harry Styles is in the talks about playing Ariels love interest Prince Eric in Disney's live action The Little Mermaid. Everyone knows he's a good looking guy and can sing but I just don't get the Prince Eric vibe from him. Personally they should have gone for someone like Matthew Daddario or someone similar to him. Matt has the smile and his hair definitely reminds me of Prince Eric.
