🐅The Good🐅

Every. Song. Fucking. Slaps. The only exception to this is "Arabian Nights", which is just because Bruce Adler's singing voice didn't match the song. But Will Smith's version from Aladdin 2019 is perfect.

Gorgeous animation except with the CG in the Cave of Wonders. That's the only scene that dates the movie

Every character is flawless. I especially loved the Sultan, when I wasn't really expecting to. Even though he's forcing Jasmine to get married, you can tell that he truly wants what's best for his daughter.

Robin Williams as the genie and Gilbert Gottfried as Iago was perfect casting.

I. Love. Jasmine's. Voice. She sounds so cute while also sounding strong, powerful, and sensual at times.

I WANT RAJAH. He's so fucking cute.

Watching Aladdin after playing Book 4 is an enhanced experience. I didn't think I could appreciate Jamil anymore than I already did. But thing change I guess, because HOLY FUCK. I love Jamil 10x more than I already did after seeing his inspiration. Jafar is so evil and mischievous, I love it.

A Whole New World needs to be seen to be believed. Go watch it right now, if you haven't. I will take no slander.

I love Aladdin and Jasmine had opposite drives, but are kind of the same in a way. Jasmine made her life worse by running away so she could follow her heart. Aladdin made his life better by lying so he could follow his heart.

Ugh, I love the apple symbolism.

🐍The Bad🐍

I'm not really a movie person, but I feel like it took a long time for the movie to really get started. It felt like it took 30 minutes for Jasmine to start running away, and another 30 minutes for Jasmine to get caught. I know it didn't take this long, but that's how if felt.

Abu was really annoying after the first few times he was on screen.

The law that Jasmine has to be married by her 16th birthday was both unnecessary and gross. That combined with the fact that Jafar ends up trying to marry her and people keep pointing out how old he is. The cherry on top of this disgusting sundae is the kiss towards to end. Like, no? That did NOT need to happen. Him calling her "pussycat" before that was so fucking rancid, it literally made my eyes water and I gagged.

🐪The Bad- A Racist Background🐪

The song, "Arabian Nights", originally contained the lyrics:

Where they cut off your ear If they don't like your face It's barbaric, but hey, it's home

This paints Arabic people as barbaric and violent people. After large criticism from Arabian Americans due to the racist lyrics, Disney agreed to change the lyrics. This was largely due to a meeting with the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee back in 1993, a year after the films release.

🌺Twisted Wonderland References🌺

In the Yasmina Silk event, the owner of the silky melon stall owner mentions that Jamil stole one while in middle school. This refers to the scene where Aladdin and Abu work together to steal a melon from a stand.

The Golden Scarab on Jamil's Dorm Uniform card mirrors the Scarab in the movie

During "One Jump Ahead", Aladdin and Abu attempt to hide with pots on their heads, which is something Jamil used to do when he would get in trouble.

The peddler in the beginning is a shady figure who attempts to sell the viewer useless objects that are marketed as valuables, which is something that the various merchants in Silk City attempt to do to Jamil's classmates.

The flower in Jamil's hair on his Yasmina Silk card looks identical to the flower Aladdin gives jasmine during "A Whole New World".

Aladdin has earned two direct-to-DVD sequels, The Return of Jafar(1994), and Aladdin and the King of Thieves(1996). Aladdin has also had a live action adaptation in 2019.

While not created by Disney, Twisted: The Untold Story of A Royal Vizier, is a parody musical based around Aladdin.

thoughts on mena massoud?

when aladdin (2019) came out, i really liked him as an actor and i thought his personality was great. eventually i found out he supports israel and said arab/palestinian/levantine food is israeli on a video for his vegan show “evolving vegan”. later, after being called out and coming under fire for it, he said “i don’t really understand the politics behind it”.

i’m palestinian and openly anti-israeli. i can not and will not support or praise anyone who supports israel and their facist government. the fact that mena massoud refused to educate himself about the topic and decided to just accept israel as a valid country and said that levantine food is israeli is absolutely disgusting and i don’t think he deserves as much love as he gets at this point. some people wanted him to play ezra bridger in the live action for the ahsoka show, and thankfully he wasn’t hired to do so. i’m glad he didn’t get the role bc that would’ve ruined my view on ezra and star wars in general.

Disney's upcoming movie releases

Disney is releasing many movies in cinemas and on the Disney+ streaming service. Family-friendly prequels and live-action remakes of cherished cartoon masterpieces are also included. The business adjusted its release calendar for future movies from its different studios this week. To view every title coming out in 2019, scroll down!

The Little Mermaid will be remade in live-action by Disney and released in theaters the following year. The movie, which stars Halle Bailey (The Color Purple, Grown-ish), tells the tale of Ariel, a mermaid princess who strikes a bargain with a sea witch to transform into a human so she may experience life on land and fall in love.

Jonah Hauer-King plays Prince Eric in the movie, while Melissa McCarthy, who starred in Bridesmaids, plays Ursula. Oscar winner Javier Bardem plays King Triton, Daveed Diggs plays Sebastian in Hamilton, Jacob Tremblay plays Flounder in Room, and Awkwafina, the breakthrough star of Crazy Rich Asians, plays Scuttle.

Based on the adored animation classic, Aladdin will soon be a live-action film. Guy Ritchie is the director, Mena Massoud plays Aladdin, and Naomi Scott plays Jasmine. In this rough retelling of the Arabian Nights, Aladdin encounters Princess Jasmine and discovers a magic lamp (Naomi Scott). He only fully sees his value once she unintentionally releases a giant genie.

Both fresh recordings of the songs and a fantastic score by eight-time Academy Award winner Alan Menken are featured in the movie. It also has many DVD extras, such as an entertaining interactive 3D tour inside the Genie's lamp and a virtual trip on a magic carpet.

Disney transports you deep into the African wilderness with The Lion King, their 32nd animated film. It relates to the tale of Simba, a brave little cub who will grow up to rule the jungle. One of the all-time top-grossing animated movies is this one. It has music by Elton John and Hans Zimmer and a cast of believable animal characters.

The Lion King, directed by Jon Favreau, stars Donald Glover, Seth Rogen, Chiwetel Ejiofor, James Earl Jones, and Beyonce Knowles-Carter as the voice actors. The successful animated feature Finding Nemo was followed up with Finding Dory. In a quest to find her family, she reunites everyone's favorite forgetful blue tang, Dory (voiced by Ellen DeGeneres).

Andrew Stanton, who co-wrote and directed the first, is in charge of this. Thomas Newman, a composer for movies including Skyfall, The Help, and WALL-E, also contributed music to the movie. This tale of a fish in and out of water is full of emotional weight and recognizable characters, even though the plot doesn't attempt to rival Finding Nemo in terms of brains. Disney Pixar is a resounding winner.

Captain Jack, a down-on-his-luck character, senses the winds of misfortune blowing his way in Disney's newest swashbuckling adventure forcefully. He must now travel a dangerous sea in search of the fabled Trident of Poseidon, assisted by a clever and attractive astronomer and a headstrong young man in the British navy. As the swashbuckling anti-hero Jack Sparrow, Johnny Depp makes a comeback. His new castmates include Captain Barbossa, played by Geoffrey Rush, and the villainous Captain Salazar, played by Javier Bardem.

The first trailer for Star Wars: Episode IX, the ninth and final movie in the Skywalker saga, has been made available by Disney. The movie recounts the Resistance's struggle against the Galactic Empire and the malevolent First Order under the command of Kylo Ren (Adam Driver). Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Anthony Daniels, Domhnall Gleeson, Billy Dee Williams, and Naomi Ackie, a debutant, appear in the movie. J.J. Abrams, who also authored the script, is directing it.

One of the most well-liked attractions in Disney history is The Haunted Mansion. It is a classic and has been around for over 50 years. In 2023, a movie adaptation of the attraction is scheduled to debut, starring LaKeith Stanfield, Rosario Dawson, Tiffany Haddish, Owen Wilson, Jared Leto, and Jamie Lee Curtis, among others.

The narrative centers on Gabbie (Dawson), a single mother who moves into a mansion in New Orleans and learns about the building's extensive history of hauntings. She asks a priest, a historian, and tour guides to help exorcise her house.

Modern Disney´s feminism sucks

Is not completely intentional but their attepms to bring up the leading lady ends up trowing the women around her under the bus. Most of this are unintentional but it still sends a unfortunate message

Example: Jasmine and Dalia 

First the scene when Genie brings the flowers and Dalia says “Jasmine would hate them” and “the way trough her heart is trough her mind” 

Subtle and nipticky on my part to point out but this kind of could imply that flowers are not for intelligent women (it woul be fine to say that Jasmine doesn’t like flowers or is not interested in getting gifts) But harmless and forgetable by here.

The real problem beggins when turns out the flowers are for  Dalia (a character we are supposed to like) and she accepts them. Its supposed to be a cute scene that is ruined because of  the previous statement implies a conextion between liking flowers-intellectualism, so the movie is at it´s very best saying that Dalia is a shallow bimbo.This is onder to show Jasmine as superior 

Second example: you know which one 

Belle´s dress is awful , we made that clear but we haven’t talked about the implications behind it. It was deliberately done to show Belle as “diferent” “liberated” “feminist” “modern” all this words to cover the real one they want to use “superior” 

The statement is , Belle is not wearing a big gown because she is too feminist for that 

Concensus: Big gown= opressed or inferior woman

Stating Belle as superior to the town girls...quite rude but i get it since they are shallow and rude towards her:

BUT ,The Bimbettes are not the ones with the  bigger,fanciest,expensive,complicated designed  gowns that Emma Watson didn’t wanted for Belle 

Those are she 

And while not as big, so does she 

These two are characters on the good side that didn’t do anything wrong to Belle and are on the contrary portrated as nice.By having Emma Watson comment negatively on big gowns as an oppresive tool, her words are trowing these characters under the bus.  (And yes, i saw another negative connotation by this,don’t think i didn’t noticed)

Is like   telling women that their value is measured by their clothes 

This is not feminism Disney, this is a new level of “not like other girls syndrome” and a poor way to try to tell women how to be .There are ways of empower your female protagonists and this are definitely not valid ones 

In most movies i´ll call this an eye rolling misstep but Disney keeps possing as “we are the progressive woke company now” and no,you are not.

PS: Emma Watson by now seem to be learning to be better , her defense of trans women proves she has grown into being more intersectional ,so i won’t tag her in the post since this are mistakes done by her being clueless and misguided.Disney on the other hand keeps being a company with very poor and shallow feminist representation yet the press claps for every little thing they do as progressive beyond measure. 

Have you seen the reviews of Frozen II? Kristoff in the movie is completely irrelevant,his only role there is to prove that yes, Anna is straight. Yet the reviews say “Kristoff #1 feminist king for letting women take the lead” can we stop propping out people that doesn’t deserve it?

I gotta say something about this trend because it rubs me wrong

I know there's a post floating around here that talks about the erasure of monoracial/unambiguously black female characters, explicitly black/deep-toned women are now being portrayed by mixed/light-skinned actresses; or, if they're animated, depicted with lighter skin. I'm starting to notice that trend in other media not just in black women (although that issue is unfortunately common in that range).

Take Spirit for example. The first movie was a commentary on the effects of Manifest Destiny partly through the eyes of a Lakota man named Little Creek.

But in the spinoff sequels the new protagonist is a biracial (Mexican and White) light skinned girl named Lucky.

Now the plot is a typical "Girl and her Horse movie" where she has to save her wealthy father's railroad line. Which is an huge slap in the face of the messages set by the first movie because railroad lines were symbolic of the destructive nature of colonialism. There's a scene in the original where Spirit and Little Creek thwart the construction of the railroad as a defiant act against genocide. Lucky even ends up taming the son of Spirit & Little Creek's personal horse Rain - again a huge slap in the face - whereas Little Creek chose to let Rain go, reinforcing the theme of freedom. Having some girl who directly benefitted from colonialism&privilege do the exact opposite of that shows an utter misunderstanding of the first film.

Recently Fate the Winx Saga casted a light skinned actress to portray Flora.

Again, no hate toward her, and the franchise is no stranger to whitewashing - but this is another example of media whitewashing a brown-skinned character and removing unambiguous traits to be more acceptable.

Before that Fate flat out replaced her with a white woman, only to backtrack by saying that Terra is actually her cousin.

Disney is also guilty of this, casting casting lightskinned actresses to play Kamala and Jasmine:

This isn't much of a recent trend either. Back in 2007-8 the Bratz Movie casted Ian Nelson (who is white) to play Dylan (who is black and had already been whitewashed in the cartoon and other media).

Great representation does not mean erasing brown/deep toned and unambiguous features to make characters more marketable. There is no shame in unambiguous features. Trying to erase such is doing the bare minimum and shows the unjustified colorism that still runs rampant in Hollywood.

On a related note, I am sooooo glad they redeemed this lady from the animated movie. Here, she shields Aladdin and Jasmine as opposed to giving off pedo vibes towards the 17-year-old orphan boy. Even back then, I gleamed no humor from that anymore than I did creepy Geriatrics Jafar preying on Jasmine.
