extremely half-formed thoughts hours but i like that black sails as a "villain origin story" (as it were) for long john silver, one of the most storied pirates there is (because among other things he's entirely fictional), shows us a series of pirate captains who have constructed larger-than-life personae for themselves to feature as the monsters in other people's stories, and shows us the (almost always) deeply personally painful histories that went into making them and then refuses to give us that for long john silver. he's not a monster from a children's story but nor does he have the kind of compelling personal history of (say) flint or vane or rackham or anne bonny. he's just fundamentally selfish in a way that's ultimately pretty banal & ordinary imo, but he's put into this position where his selfishness is able to exert a massive influence on the people around him that makes him seem like more than he is. & btw i don't mean this as like a criticism of his character i think it works really well. what if evil were just boring. what then.

rereading the hivebent commentary makes me so annoyed that people are never really willing to analyze the actual effects that alternian culture clearly had on every troll, especially the highbloods. pretty much the only troll who ever actually gets taken in the context of her upbringing is vriska.

no one ever seems willing to think about the character arcs of trolls like equius and terezi, who are also bluebloods with extremely hypocritical and toxic understandings of the people around them-- equius is boiled down to a gross creep who is just like that naturally and definitely didn't get it from his society in any way, whilst terezi is scrubbed of virtually all her flaws and turned into a strange sort of based love interest character who is all about being gay and too cool to be tricked by any of the alternian propaganda. quadrants? classism? how silly! terezi would never believe in stupid shit like that. she's quirky! and GAY!

despite the fact that equius and terezi both obviously have much, much more to their personalities than that-- and the alternian empire is informing way more dangerous things about these kid's beliefs than "kiss annoying people".

AMEN 🙏 i read through the comments under the article and i was like??? what are ya'll talking about obviously they would wait with a renewal decision depending on how well the new season does that's how the tv world has been working for the last 300 years. it is nice when sometimes tv shows get a renewal for 3 new seasons at once but that's absolutely not the norm. i mean the og's also got their renewal a few weeks into the new season being aired. and the people celebrating that lone star might be ending make me sick. being happy about other people potentially loosing something that makes them happy is a special kind of pathetic. you don't like something? honey it's alright you don't have to announce it to the world through hating people who do like it and instead just move on

yeah, I’m not sure why there being no comment on a renewal/cancellation means anything when it’s exactly what’s to be expected. sure, some shows announce more than one season ahead of time but lone star has never been that way. @reyesstrand did her homework and found when other renewals were announced. it has always been within a month before or after the season finale. we are four months away from the season 5 premiere. someone saying idk about season 6 when we haven’t even started season 5 is in no way news.

of course the show is expensive and it’s not out of the question, but idk nothing that got announced today is new information so I’m not sure why suddenly a bunch of people are acting like the show is done. yes I do, it’s because those are people who want it to be done. literally the only thing we learned so far is that lone star will be back on mondays lol

and yeah, people celebrating and cheering for the day lone star gets canceled... why? it’s gross and boring and lame to spend energy on something you don’t like and make people feel bad about enjoying it. I can't imagine having interests and things that make me happy, and then wishing for the downfall of that source of happiness for someone else.

Convex but in Evo. No, I don't have any ideas beyond that, and I have no clue how that would work since Evo started on October 2017 aka in the middle of hermitcraft season 5 aka a few days before convex's 7th prank. I thought maybe it could be after s5 and before s6 but realized that both seasons are just a few days apart and by that point Evo had slowed down significantly. But imagine that at some point, back when the server was more active, they showed up. Could you imagine.

I have no idea how convex would go from Hermitcraft to Evo, but please. It would be so funny. I know vexes weren't a thing back in Evo versions so they wouldn't be able to wear their vex masks but. Pretend for a second. Pretend for a second that that doesn't matter and yes I know they wouldn't be able to fly either (not much of a change, considering Scar's horrible ping for flying- headcanon he's got. Some wing disability. Not sure what yet) but please. Consider the pranks. I know they'd have less materials to work with but please. I can't be the only one with this vision. I feel cursed. This is what watching Scar's S5 does to a person.

Also, the evolutioners needed someone else to keep them on their toes besides the Watchers. The Watchers liked to, well, watch and judge their actions, maybe a prank here and there if they deemed it necessary, but Convex? That's not how convex works. I mean yeah if you wrong them, you immediately go to their pranks book, but they don't need a reason to strike. Or they make up a reason altogether. That would've brought some much-needed chaos into the evolutioners' lives.

Also I have no idea how the Watchers would feel about them lmao. A part of me thinks they'd be a bit antagonistic towards them (like they were to Grian) but maybe they'd grow fond of them because they're really not bad people outside of their masks. Idk. I just think that there's so much to be explored with this concept.

Also, I'd love to see them interact with the people there. I have a feeling they'd develop a friendly rivalry with the Property Police. I think the PP would start it, but now Convex is Definitely not backing down.

Imagine Pearl appears later and finds a world with a bunch of untouchable pranks around (oh, convex would retaliate against Grian everytime he takes down their pranks) and some shoddy attempts at mimicking vex banners back when such a thing didn't exist yet. She'd be confused, but I can't help but feel she'd become quick allies with them. She'd still join Grian's Empire, but she'd help with the pranks on G. An honorary vex.

A random Vampire AU set in the early days of Watery so it features the Huotari's and other familiar faces from the Yötön Yö short which was a partial inspiration for this story.

Originally I was thinking of a vampire AU for the current timeline but who knows, that might become a fic on its own sooner or later.
