My Highest Worldly Bliss: Chapter One

Hi everyone! I know the poll isn’t technically over yet, but most people thus far voted for me to upload chapter one to Tumblr today, and had I waited… well “today” would’ve been over lol.

Here’s chapter one of my very first fic! Haha i feel so self-indulgent. Feel free to let me know what you think and give some feedback. Excuse the formatting issues! I’m new to this 🥲 Read it under the cut 👇🏼👇🏼

Soft white eyes met a glimmering violet glow.

And he knew, in earnest then, that he would never be the same.

Dawn broke over the horizon of Copper-9. The nearby sound of drilling overpowered Khan’s senses as he blinked sleep out of his eyes. The day greeted him like any other, with a sly grin and slap to the face. A long day in the shafts lay ahead.

He was never fully content living a life of servitude. The human masters had made his kind to mine their exoplanets, so each day, they would dig their way further through the bedrock, dust and hot air hanging heavy around them until it clogged their sensors and slicked their hair back. Yet the drone always longed for more: a life of his own; freedom from the shackles that kept him bound to the colliery.

Such were the dreams of an ambitious man. Better yet, a foolish man. He knew not to articulate his fantasies of revolt, or he’d have caught his death for it by now.

But Khan was lucky, his bright mind and ingenuity had impressed the humans. During a shaft collapse a few months back, he’d taken the reigns and stabilized the structure long enough to evacuate all the workers. Having saved them a pretty penny, the humans rewarded him with a promotion to construction. Meaning no more physical labor.

“What’s on the agenda for today?” The worker drone grabbed his clipboard, scanning the text to find his assignment. He flipped the page to find it in big bold letters, coupled with a map.

Cabin Fever Labs

Ceiling collapse on basement floor, building integrity compromised.

“Huh,” he thought, “Never heard of that place.”

Grabbing the map, he set out on his mission.

“Stop it! Don’t touch me!”

“The more you squirm, the more it’ll hurt, 002.”

“Please, I’m sorry! I’ll be good, I swear!”

Khan didn’t expect the walk to take as long as it did. It felt like hours since he’d left the mines. His head was pounding, legs ached, and he contemplated giving up halfway.

“Screw the humans. They don’t deserve my help anyway.” He huffed, feeling the hot sun burn down on him.

Yet, against his better judgment, Khan persisted, wading through waist-high vegetation as he finally stumbled upon the Cabin Fever complex. It was at least ten stories high. Blacked-out windows lined the building in a grid-like pattern, and a large, metal door towered before the drone. It was locked, so he had no choice but to ring the bell.

A buzzer rang not long after. “State your name and the purpose of your visit,” came an annoyed voice on the other end.

“Uh, hello? I’m Khan. I-I’m here on behalf of JCJenson… to survey the ceiling collapse? I’m the Head of Construction at the copper mines.”

“Come in.” Another beep and Khan entered.

“Subject 002’s test results have been… alarming, to say the least.”

“What do you suppose we do?”

Purple eyes blinked open, and a blurry haze of white fluorescent light overwhelmed them. It took 002 a moment to realize where she was: the torture chamber, strapped to the patient bed. Everything hurt, and for a moment she cursed death for being too elusive a mercy for her. In the distance, she heard the voices of the Doctors.

Ever since that symbol had first plagued her processor they’d taken every opportunity to subject her to the latest “treatments”. Psychological torture, physical beatings, and solitary confinement had become staples of her daily routine.

“I think we ought to separate her and 048. It could be that two infected drones interacting is worsening the problem.”

This immediately set off alarms in 002’s mind. They couldn’t take 048 from her, she was the only good thing about this hellhole!

“I’ll inform Dr. Piers of the change. I’m sure we can accommodate 002 in 017’s room.”

Anger surged through her body. The mere thought of the Doctors taking the last good thing in her life away from her made 002 seethe. A thousand possibilities soared through her mind, until the symbol from her visions appeared in her hand once again.

“I said let me go!” A flash of violet light cut through the leather straps holding her down, and 002 fought back tears as she burst through the torture chamber door and down the hall.

Khan made his way to the basement of the labs, looking for the hall with the collapsed ceiling.

“There you are.” He whispered once he finally found his assignment. It was… a disturbing site to say the least. The ceiling tiles had been shattered beyond recognition, seemingly by force, and the wall nearby had been splattered with… oil? It sent a chill up his chassis.

He began surveying the damage when a female voice picked up behind him.

“So… they finally let someone see what goes on down here, huh? You some fresh meat or sumthin’?”

Khan was startled, jumping a bit before turning around, and then his shock turned to awe as he laid eyes on the most beautiful drone he’d ever seen. Her clothes were plain: a sleeveless grey dress, ID tag, gloves, and no shoes. Yet there was an undeniable fervor in her eyes, which were the most brilliant shade of purple-pink.

“Helloooo?” she asked, “Ya still in there or?” She tapped her fingers on his faceplate, effectively snapping him out of his trance.

“Uh— hi miss?” He tried to form a full sentence but was too taken aback, a vibrant white blush forming on his cheeks.

The woman played with the ends of her lavender hair and stifled a giggle, “I’ve never had a guy get flustered over me before. You sure you don’t belong down here with the rest of us defects?”

Embarrassed, Khan tried to reassert himself, “Ma’am, I don’t know what you’re talking about. I’m the Head of Construction, and I’m here to survey the ceiling collapse. Do you need help with something?”

Now that ticked 002 off. She couldn’t believe it! This… cute weird, weird man with a hard hat and too much audacity had the nerve to waltz into her home and ask her if she needed his help!

“Okay, nuance alert ‘ma’am,’” she said mockingly, “You’re in my neck of the woods right now! So how about we switch up the roles and ask if you need my help, hmm?” And to really get her point across, 002 held up three fingers, and the symbol appeared once more. In an instant, all the damage had been undone.

“Oh, uh. What was that?” It was a stupid question, but the construction worker couldn’t think of any other way to phrase it.

He watched as a deep, violet-pink blush covered the woman’s face. She crossed her arms and huffed, stepping backward “It’s uhm… it’s nothing. Just a virus I have,” Then her voice got quiet, “Bet it freaks you out, huh? Just like everyone else.”

Khan was about to say something to the contrary when heavy footsteps began racing down the hall. Humans. He watched as the purple lady’s eyes went hollow and she stepped back.

“I-I need to go,” she stammered, “I’m not even supposed to be talking to you.”

“Wait!” He shouted back, but it was too late. He caught a final glimpse of her light as the beautiful violet woman turned a corner and disappeared.

“I didn’t even get your name…”

alright, as promised, here is my personal venom reading guide as of right now, october 2024. disclaimer that this is not in any way intended to be definitive or universal and i am not an authority, i've just read a bunch of venom comics in the past five or so years and have strong feelings on the matter. there's some early stuff i would consider just objectively important for anyone who wants to read and understand venom, but there's also a lot of stuff that's on here because i personally like it (or not on here because i don't). it's highly subjective and informed by my personal opinions and biases. this is also specifically a guide to (primarily) eddie brock venom comics so if you're more interested in other hosts this will not be of much use to you. i have not read every venom comic in existence (there are a lot of them) and either way this is not intended to be an exhaustive list of The Only Comics You Should Read but if you're looking to start exploring the comics i think these are a pretty good place to start if you have remotely the same sensibilities as i do regarding these characters (which to be quite honest if you're getting your comic book recommendations from tumblr dot com you probably do). long disclaimer sorry but comics are SUCH a big and kind of scary topic. anyway the list is under the cut. starred titles are ones i consider particularly high priority if you're skipping around, either because they're plot-critical or because i think they're especially good. have fun

The alien costume arc — If you're able to read a collected edition you'll probably have an easier time than if you manually jump between comics, but I've included the full list anyway. This is a stupid way to publish a story. Comics are stupid. Unfortunately this one is also essential.

Setup — Mostly regular Spider-Man stuff with minor symbiote subplot; skippable or skimmable for symbiote highlights if desired. I would suggest skimming rather than skipping, since seeing how this arc actually played out in the comics is crucial to understanding the ways in which adaptations have warped people's perceptions of the Venom symbiote and of this storyline, which I personally think is a key part of learning to understand the symbiote as a character—there are some misconceptions you've probably picked up through cultural osmosis that you'll need to unlearn if you want to get to the heart of the character, and this is the place to start.

Phenethylamine by Leah Williams, in Marvel Comics Presents (2019) #5 — Not really a recommendation so much as... a public service announcement, I guess. Is this my favorite comic in the world? No, but it would feel negligent not to tell you it exists. There are better comics. There are comics with a better understanding of the characters. But this is the only one that's explicitly about Eddie having sex with the symbiote, so do with that what you will.

What costumes I think Arcane characters would wear for a costume party

Jinx, Sevika, and Isha

Isha has been obsessed with Five Nights at Freddy's and has been begging Jinx for days on end to do a costume about it. Jinx, obviously, ends up caving in.

Jinx tries to get Ekko to join in but he refused

Isha is dressed up as the crying child, Jinx put together a full Springtrap cosplay and Sevika is "a night guard" ( Wearing a purple wifepleaser she did Not want a part of this )

Jinx keeps sneaking behind corners and scaring the shit out of Vi. She tried to scare Jayce and nearly lost her tooth. He feels a little bit bad about it

She's making everyone watch the FNAF movie and giggling every time someone begs to watch something else. It's too cringe for them I fear. Isha is having the time of her goddamn life frankly.

Sevika brings purple themed drinks that only she drinks because it's JUST straight up whiskey she put purple food dye into. It's bad whiskey too.

Jayce, Caitlyn, and Vi

They dressed up as Stu and Billy from the original Scream movie. Originally they were just going to do Ghostface but Jayce really wanted to show his face. Vi decided to drag Caitlyn into being their Sidney.

Jayce keeps spilling shit onto his sweater and going "well this works anyway." His sweater which originally just had a little bit of red on it is basically covered in wine by the end of the night.

Vi keeps smearing the fake blood onto everything. Caitlyn's face still has red handprints by the next day. Vi says she'll clean it off and instead makes it worse.

They watch the original Scream and Jayce keeps pausing to talk about actor trivia and VI just unpauses while he isn't looking. Viktor is the ONLY ONE listening to him.

They brought Ghostface themed cupcakes that Caitlyn made with red icing on the inside. They're absolutely way too sweet and Vi has like 3.

Jayce brought a red sangria that is one of the more popular drinks. He says he made it himself but he bought a gallon like a few hours before because he tried and FAILED REAL BAD at making sangria.

Viktor

Was going to be Lawrence Gordon but only an hour before the party he realized no one would get his costume. He scrapped together a very shitty House M.D. cosplay in like 30 minutes.

He's only there because Jayce begged him for like an hour to come with him. He's having a fun time though.

Suggests they watch Saw because he loves describing how medically inaccurate everything is. This is also because Jayce keeps hiding in his shoulder whenever anything gross comes on screen.

He's considering convincing Jayce to dress up as Adam from the Saw movies. This is because he's seen the musical and he is, in fact, gay.

This is ruined by Jinx going "me fr" anytime Amanda is on screen and asking if she can dress up as Amanda with them. She's doing this on purpose.

I think Jinx tries to scare him and he just stares at her so unamused. It works one time on ACCIDENT and he throws the bottle of pills straight at her forehead.

He brought candy cigarettes because, again, his original costume was for Saw. Now it just seems lame. Vi chews on them so unsettlingly

Mel

Jessica Rabbit. She has the best costume in the entire party and no one can stop complementing her. She brought a little rabbit plushie and allows Isha to play with it. She ends up just letting her have it after everything.

She did not get the memo this was supposed to be about like horror movies. She's relieved when Viktor comes and he's just House M.D.

I think about halfway through she changes into a cowgirl costume. This was always the plan because that dress is incredibly uncomfortable. She comes out of the bathroom and everyone cheers.

She's not fully paying attention to whatever movies they're watching. However, she does make them watch Oh Brother Where Art Thou. Everyone kinda skitters off besides her, Jayce, and Viktor. I think they all fall asleep against one another watching it.

She brought gummy ropes as lasso and sliders shaped like bunnies.

Ekko

He's a huge Good Omens fan I know it in my heart and soul. He dresses up as Crowley. He made a leather jacket that has fake wings on the back and even has snake eye contacts.

He makes everyone watch the first episode of Good Omens and Viktor gets HOOKED so fast. Jayce ends up watching the whole show on his own time and realizes things about himself.

I think he was originally planning to be Doctor Who but Viktor was already planning to play a doctor so he went with Crowley instead.

He shows off his signed poster by David Tennent and Jayce is SO jealous

They're talking about their favorite actors for most of the night. They end up eventually planning to go to a convention together at some point. They're going to dress up as Mandalorians because they're nerds

I think Ekko is like, a professional cosplayer. He shows off his Anakin cosplay, his Cal Kestis cosplay with a functioning puppet BD-1, his old My Hero Academia cosplays... Jayce starts to get really into it

He brought a bottle of whiskey and a white wine with devil and angel wings on each respectively.

I've been following you for a bit but this is the first time I personally ever read this name from you. So naturally I am curious and would like you to yap about this character. 🔫💗

aa !!! aria beyblade beloved..!!! I've written some description stuff and added some drawings I've done of her (i need to draw her more soon !!!) (vita is also there next to her in the second photo teehee..vita's outfit is a little bit outdated here but it'sokk)

Aria Bunne is one of my Shogun Steel / ZERO-G beyblade ocs !! she's a regular member on the USA's representative team, Team Dungeon (team dungeon 2 babeyyyyy!!!! woooo!!!!). Her bey's name is undecided at the moment, but it will be a stamina type with a Jackalope motif !!

Aria is graceful and polite, she also knows her worth and holds herself highly! She prefers not to get into serious conflict or petty arguments and shrugs her shoulders and sighs whenever her teammates get into fights, knowing it will all be sorted out eventually. Her calm composure can be easily swayed when it comes to the person she likes :]

Aria wants to be a Beyblade performer! Alongside singing and dancing, she puts on shows with the sparks from her bey spirit (think similar to Dynamis' special moves!). Speaking of Dynamis, he's Aria's favorite Legendary Blader. Some other bladers she looks up to are Teru, Lera, and Hikaru!

Aria is also popular on social media in the new beyblade age! A lot of her performance work is shown on her socials, and she loves conversations about popular bladers, both old and new! You could say she's on the beyblade equivalent of stan twitter…Because of her connections and her experiences, she can help her team get info on upcoming opponents, and also prevent her team mates from sharing too much about their own skills haha

Another thing about Aria, she has both US and UK citizenship. She was originally going to be a member on the UK's team, but a falling out with the team leader made her decide otherwise. Her older brother, who is currently on the UK team encouraged her to try out for the USA team since he knows how much Aria wants to perform in front of the whole beyblade world! But, because her heart was previously set on being with the UK team, she has troubles connecting with her new team at first

For some plot introduction stuff, she first appears before the selection tournaments. She locates the Dungeon Gym and declares a challenge to the strongest blader there (bladers challenging beyblade gyms is pretty common and the dungeon gym tends to get these a lot!). Because the strongest blader isn't there at the moment (it's Vita lol), Jayce steps up and battles her. (Aria is aware that he's not the one she's looking for but accepts it anyways). Cool battle ensues and Jayce loses, but he's incredibly happy because he's met a new cool and swag blader. Vita does eventually show up and witnesses the battle, congratulating Aria on her win and asking her if she's still interested in battling against her :3 Aria says yes and places something on the line for it :3 whoever wins has to treat the other to ice cream :3 (Jayce is a little disappointed he didn't get this offer, but he didn't quite understand what was going on here....lmao...)

Heh. This was my very first work in Silmarillion fandom -- about Elfwine son of Lothíriel daughter of Prince Imrahil -- the streak of elven blood in Elfwine is actually fundamental to the plot. He is out at sea, and through some Valar machinations, finds himself in long-lost Beleriand, and has fallen in with a bunch of kinslayers, no less.

I honestly didn't know what I was doing, for this first work, and Bunn (inspiration and beta) had a heck of a time continually herding me in the right direction. Writing Tolkien is hard, and I respect all you writers who can keep the languages straight, let alone the cast of hundreds. :'D

But it was so much fun to explore the landscape and people of northern Beleriand, and end the whole thing in Gondolin. I really fell in love with that city, and have enjoyed everyone's writings about it ever since.
