#aphmau hcs

I doubt I'll ever actually make a MCD rewrite, gods know my fixation will die down long before I'd get anything on paper or even finish rewatching the whole thing, but it's still fun to share what ideas I have come up with, so here we are!

In a hypothetical rewrite, I would change a bunch of dynamics. If I were to write mcd, a large portion of season 1 would be relationship focused. And I DON'T mean romantic necessarily, I mean building relationships, fleshing out the town, making the audience really get to know the characters and how they interact with each other.

My biggest focus is on Aph's closest friends, so here are my current ideas and hcs!

(Note here: I mention aroace dynamics, I am aware that it's a spectrum, I myself am on the spectrum, I just haven't decided how it would work with Aph herself so it's vague.)

Garroth:

Still in love with Aph

Laurance is his best friend, depends on him when he can't depend on Aph

Views Dante as a younger brother or son

Much less jealous and possessive over Aph, accepts that she may never feel the same, though is causes him heartache.

Has a habit of "adopting" people, most likely due to his past and feeling like a failure to his younger brothers. (Zenix, Dante, Levin, Brian etc)

His closest friends are Aph, Laurance and Dante. Unlikely friendship with Dale and Logan along with Cadenza

Laurance:

Likes Aph, though mostly mistakes his loyalty and fondness and genuine friendship for love. Aph is just as important to him as she is in the series, it's just not romantic love

So much less pushy. So so much less pushy.

They play flirt with Aph, as they do in the series. (Example, the table scene in s1)

Puts his feelings for her aside whenever needed. She needs a guard? He's there. She needs a friend? She's there. She needs to gossip? Girl, what'd they do this time?

Tries to gently push Garroth to do something, anything about his feelings. The pushing turns less gentle after the SK business though it's not his fault

Father/Big brother figure to Malachi.

He's closest with Aph and Garroth and Cadenza, very close with Dante as well, though they don't know each other as deeply as the others do.

Probably friends with Katelyn and Nicole as well, they spar together from time to time.

Gossips with Lucinda from time to time, they shit talk over tea

Yip probably really likes him

Dante:

Sibling like relationship with Aph

Ridiculously loyal to her

Definitely closest to her than anyone else

Had a super good relationship with Nicole, would have stayed together had their interest not clashed.

Dante would have wanted to stay in touch but Nicole needed time to herself

Started getting close to Nana after their split

Loves children, father/big brother to Malachi and Levin

An absolute goof, loses braincells with Laurance, Garroth and Aph. (All of them are super capable by themselves, absolute dumbasses together)

Aph:

Not romantically interested in any of them (I haven't decided if she's on the aroace spectrum or just not interested in men, but I just don't imagine her liking any of the guys)

Views Dante as a brother, Laurance as her best friend and Garroth as a close friend

Has always kind of felt like there was a wall between her and Garroth, couldn't explain it

Genuinely unaware of Garroth's infatuation until the ending events of s1 or then the dreams of s2

Confused over Laurance and others teasing Garroth

Made an effort to get to know Emmalyn after their bad blood died down, recognising her own issues with boundaries and respecting people's space

Unlikely friends with Emmalyn, though it gets tainted a lil after the Irene discovery

(In case not aroace: Zoey is her wife, though this could also be interpreted as platonic. In any case, they are wives and share a friendship that could only be seen as soulmates.)

Considers Laurance and Zoey her platonic soulmates, feels as though the two understand her better than anyone could or would.

Bonds with Aaron particularly well, though they have no romantic involvement.

Aaron:

Not in love with Aph

Sees his late wife in Aph along with his son in Levin and Malachi, and they end up helping him heal over time.

Forms a special type of bond with Aph, and finds himself able to rely on her much more than anyone else

Begins bonding with the others first over their shared hatred of Zane

Due to his time as a lone wolf, he struggles greatly with talking to people for a while

'Fast' friends with Dante, the two bond over the loss of their villages and family.

Surprising friends with Logan, along with Brendon and Emmalyn.

Becomes a father figure of sorts to Dante, Levin, Malachi and other youngins in the town.

Enjoys sparring with people, but begins first doing it out of necessity to be stronger, though it overtime becomes something he truly enjoys

Soft spot for kids

Ferociously protective of Aph due to their close relationship and her resemblance to his wife.

Ends up finding peace in Phoenix Drop, willing to do anything to protect it

Helps Levin figure out lord stuff with Aph.

I remember seeing someone (cannot for the life of me remember who, sadly) who wrote in their rewrite the dogs as genuine magical being, Phoenix as really big, another one was on fire, all the traits Aph gave the dogs made into actual qualities in the dogs.

The hc stuck out to me and has now been etched into my memory cause it's so cool and the idea of her walking around with a pack of magical canines is incredible

RAAAAAGH I'M INSANE ABOUT LAURANCE. anyway i have a lot of thoughts about gene and laurance as some weird combination of foils/parallels and i had to make art about it

specifically though i'm insane about the physical ways laurance's experience with gene may have manifested. in s1ep53, gene expresses that he wants to kill laurance for his role in stranding him and his cohort in the nether. he (of course) gets his wish, turning laurance into a shadow knight, the process of which always requires death in order to transform the person in question.

HOWever. you also have to get a person to kill someone they're close to in order to finalize their shift, and laurance was very obviously dedicated to aphmau in full. gene could have changed laurance's memories to get him to kill her once they escaped the nether, but we see laurance immediately after he leaves the nether, and his memories are intact. therefore, he had to have chosen another way to break laurance's spirit.

additionally, because the group had no idea how long they were going to be In the nether, gene had all the time in the world to enact vengeance on the person he viewed as responsible for his entrapment.

all of that combines into (what i believe to be) the conditions necessary for gene to decide that yeah, maiming and tormenting laurance is the move.

AND THUS. the scars.

firstly, i chose to concentrate all of the scars on his face because laurance, as a lovable casanova, would likely value his appearance greatly, and gene would seek to destroy that. additionally, i hc that shadow knights have long nails similar to claws (not an uncommon thought lol).

on our right, the four slashes on laurance's cheek were caused by gene clawing at his face in a fit of anger.

the scars across his lip, nose, and eyebrow were more calculated, with gene choosing to slowly cut laurance's face in noticeable and painful places (along bone, cartilage, and tissue with lots of nerves near the surface) with his nails.

lastly, the burn mark on laurance's other cheek is from gene shoving him down onto netherrack, which burns severely. laurance had clothing covering every other part that hit the ground, but his face wasn't as lucky.

these are also the only marks that remain visible; blunt force trauma, broken bones, and psychological trauma don't generally show up as scars.

in summary: the spectre of gene haunts laurance in more ways than one.

Right so I'm rewatching MCD yet again and I'm on ep. 100 and I'm like really thinking about it now but uhhhh Laurance was Absolutely concussed going into season 2.

That man got dropped to the ground twice in one episode by the back end of a sword and then had to turn around, hunt down his best friend, travel to a different realm, fight his bff a Second time, help hold off Zane, AND drag Aphmau through the portal back to the overworld. I Know his head is throbbinggggg lmao.

Little extras: (btw these are all headcanons that take after Season 6, so just keep that in mind with some of the character designs :p)

Aaron - "Straight" ?,,, he's never really had a relationship outside of Aphmau and Jenny but that was more of a situationship than anything so he's never really,,, explored that part of himself ?? there's a good possibility he's not entirely straight but he's content with where he is now so he's probably not going to be exploring it any time soon

Aphmau - The watermelon looking flag for those who don't know is "Abrosexual" which means her attraction to people often fluctuates, but besides that she's all inclusive obviously since most of her friends are queer lmao - also, she's hiding her ears and tail in this pic, I wanted to show a difference between her and Garroth, who I think would be unable to hide his ears and tail due a lacking of Werewolf Genes that Aphmau had prior to her transformation

Garroth - I like him to be Gender Non-Conforming,,, I do love transfemme and bigender and whathave you gender fuckall Garroth, but I mostly just see him as a man who really loves more "feminine" things, even though he might not be able to explore that side of himself all that much thanks to basically being the face of his father's company now that he's suspiciously absent

Zane - I can only ever see the lightness of the back of his head in that season 6 design as him getting a shaved head,,, I'd like the think that he did so under the guise of "I need to look drastically different to throw suspicions off my back" but it was really just because he's always wanted to try a more alternative hair style but again, being a Ro'Meave and all, it was heavily frowned upon by his parents, so this was the perfect opportunity to do so

Vylad - His love is solely to travel, truly cannot be bothered to stay in one place for long, so there's no real point for him to try and make a connection - not that he really wants to, not when he can go backpacking across the equivalent of Europe in MyStreet,,, also toying with the idea of him being nonbinary,,, maybe a tad masc leaning but I'm not quite sure it that really fits him or not

Laurance - There was going to be a joke here but I mean. Yeah. Man kisser or whatever. I know a very popular HC is for him to be Bisexual but I just can't shake how fucking gay he is holy shit. He screams "I only date women because that's what's expected" - Same with Garroth but to a different degree lmao

Travis - He only has a lot pointer of ears and teeth due to the Demon Warlock taking over his body - I'd like to think that because he is still technically his son that once he took over his body, not everything reverted fully back to normal, think of it like "unlocking" some of his more dormant genes, but the vitiligo was there before hand,,, also trans FtM and he's been on testosterone since college :3

Dante - I'm so sorry if you see Dante as anything queer. that is a devastatingly straight man to me.

Katelyn - I like to see her as a Demi-Girl, using She/They pronouns, since she's been seen to have a struggle with her femininity in the past

Nana - Her ears are based off of American Curls :3c I'd like to think that MCD has like more feral/wild animals for the Meif'Wa and Werewolves (Such as different Wolf and Wild Cat Species) but MyStreet, being modern, would have a lot more domestic breeds instead (like house cats and dogs)

Lucinda - I see a lot of people HC her and Travis as POC and I love it so much,,, I was tempted to do so for Travis as well but,,, he lived in the snowy mountains bro that is a sad pathetic little white boy - also the flag with the flower on it is "Sapphic", which in short means femme for femme, without it having to be specifically woman for woman

Kim - There really isn't much to go off of here in terms of why I think this other than. just. the vibes... unfortunately she's not a very developed character beyond being very skittish and introverted

where do y'all draw the line? when is it bad writing, when is it a character flaw, when is it understandable, when is it out of their hands?

example: laurance in mid-late season 2 when he's being a douchesnozzle about aphmau's grief for aaron. do you think this was his character being butchered, or him letting his personal feelings lash out at aphmau? do you think he was actually in the right or do you think it's hard to say because his behavior was a result of shadow knight shenanigans?

Thinking about shadow knights again:

I love the concept that sks aren’t even vaguely human looking in their true form. And I don’t mean this in a “they are animals/creatures” way or in a “they’re just Minecraft nether mobs” way, but in a “they look like analogue horror monsters and actually behave like them too” way.

Ya know, the stretched out limbs, smiles too wide to be natural, claw-like fingers, horrific death rattle breathing sounds; the absolute works of analogue horror. Even in human form the look kinda off too; their eyes are open a bit too wide, their teeth just a bit too sharp.

Behavior wise, if you piss them off bad enough they start to work like the alternates from the mandala catalog. They take the form of someone the person who made them angry loves and they hunt them down in their own home. They leave gory messes behind, not even bothering to try and cover up what they did. You know someone was killed by an sk by the fact that they’re nothing more than a blood splatter on the floor, crushed bones and a bit of gray matter all that is left of them.

Idk, just shadow knights being absolutely terrifying horror monsters instead of just a bunch of knights in red and black armor like some 12 year olds edge deviantart oc

OK SO context i have a hc that when shadow knights turn into their true form their hair also gets dramatically longer (i also like to think they look physically more monstrous BUT THATS FOR LATER CONTENT) so when laurance comes back from the nether his hair is super long and gets cadenza to trim it instead of cutting it super short and dyeing it :> so HERES MY GUY TRYING DIFF HAIRSTYLES WHILE RECOVERING!!!

So… Zane and Janus.

You guys have no idea how much my brain chemistry changed back then when the lore dropped about Janus being Zane’s “favorite”; it was years ago, but it’s been gnawing in the back of my MIND.

My idea in the rewrite is Janus showing up/is mentioned more throughout the series and showcasing their relationship and how weird it is.

Because, like, how it starts is when Zane first loses his eye (no, he doesn’t lose it in the way he did in MyStreet). He’s obviously upset and emotional, lashing out the anyone trying to help, but he’s very annoyed with their pity. So, when newly appointed guard Janus asks if he can do anything for Zane, Zane sarcastically says, “I’d LOVE if you could get me a new eye.” So, Janus leaves.

Then, a bit later, he comes back, handing his own eye, freshly cut out by himself, to young Zane. This honestly shocks him, but he’s not afraid. When Zane asks why, Janus simply responds, “you asked.”

It continues for years: Janus basically becoming Zane’s shadow and fulfilling any request he has. Though he is still a guard for the whole of the Ro’meave family, he mostly follows Zane’s commands. When Zane becomes the High Priest, he nominates Janus to have a place in the Jury, which succeeds; this kept Janus to continue working under Zane mainly now.

When Zane starts his whole plan with gaining power with the relics, of taking over the realm, the only person he tells everything to is Janus; he is the only one that knows the intricate details of Zane’s plans because he would never reveal them. So, Zane sends Janus to complete tasks he needs done: whether it be recon in Tu’la, someone dying, gathering something, etc., Janus will get it done in the background as Zane plays the face of the church.

This all comes to ahead when Janus is sent on a mission from Zane and isn’t able to be there during the invasion of Phoenix Drop. Zane gets trapped with Garroth and Janus is left alone. After that, he spends the next 15 years looking for a way to get him out., desperate for the first time in his life. Until he learns the news of Zane dying, then he starts a new goal: getting Zane out of the nether.

This then goes into the HC I have of Janus basically committing death by Tu’la soldiers in an easy way to get there and runs rampant through shadow knights to get to Zane. This makes S3 different in the sense that Janus and Zane are basically together again and will not be separated again if Janus has a say in it.

And so, Zanus.

There’s details I’m leaving out, like Janus being the one to kill Ivy and also Garroth and Janus’s relationship as well. Hell, I have this whole idea of Garroth and Janus and parallels they have as guards/being loyal to a fault.

But, that’s another time. Right now, Zanus. 🙂‍↕️
