I think the decline in Aphmau as a character and, in turn, each series, is that she became increasingly more of a self insert. Self inserts aren't totally bad, but it's hard to put aside bias. Aphmau just became a means to escape, a fantasy world where things were more mystical than reality even to the detriment of other characters. A place where it didn't matter what the audience liked, because her husband voiced Aaron, so of course they'd end up together. This isn't to say that I hate the concept entirely, just to point out why I think it turned out the way it did.

AGHHH tysm for saying so!! Most of it is not offically written anywhere yet, hence why I have not posted anything aside for that little scene bc I wrote that little exerpt specifically for that little animation I did. HOWEVER I am working on writing down an outline on my rewrite (as well as redesigning all the major characters) on Notion and when I get a bit farther on that I will share the page so people who are intrested can read my rewrite! Plus I will probably write more little exeprts like the one I had as well as some fics and oneshots and post em on here, so keep an eye out if you're intrested!

Why is rebirth so insistent on sexualising Aph?

I’m like Halfway through ep3 and I’ve already noticed there is a lot of refs to this. And I know it’s not new for aphverse content to sexualise aphmau, as it is Jess’ self insert and she can treat herself as she pleases, but it feels particularly gross in rebirth.

Aphmau in rebirth is the sexy Baby trope… or the Born Sexy Yesterday trope, however you prefer to call it. She’s sexy, and she’s stupid. And it’s gross that they have decided to cross over her most stupid version with the one that receives the most unsolicited comments about her appearance and/or nudity in a way that makes her seem… desired in a way where she doesn’t desire in return.

I’m gonna do a post about it probably when I finish rebirth, but… it’s… not comfortable.

hate how jessica started living through aph as the series progressed. jess's annoying little habit to implement her own personality onto aphmau has honestly left me FERAL because whenever i see aph do something in the show in the most recently released episodes, my mind immediately goes to she would never do that. it's kinda ruined the everything. she imposed her own fantasies and fetishes that have ultimately led mcd to be a self indulgent story of hers. its frustrating to think about how great the show could've become was it not for her reflecting her own personality through aphmau and

of course, the butchering of some of the main characters in the show- laurance and garroth to push viewers towards aarmau. i LOVE aarmau, but not the aarmau jess's shown us.

aaron is just a burlier version of garroth. talking to my friend about this has made me realise so much about it, like how aaron was ultimately a substitute for garroth. a substitute for a salty, weird ass husband who couldnt bear to see his wife make her self insert's love interest someone that wasn't based off of him. how insecure do you have to be to lose your shit and change a whole ass story over a fictional character? can't tell you how disappointed i was to learn about jason's behavior when i came back to aphverse.

in any case, even though this happened, they could've saved this whole shipwreck by implementing a proper healing arc for aaron to make it valid and SHOW the romance happening, and not rush it and have aaron fucking explode for no reason- LITERALLY no reason because i found out that zane becomes a damn shadow knight anyway (thanks for that mel😭). defeated the entire purpose of his death, great!

as much as i hate jason, i love aaron SO much and it hurt to see him die so damn quick. just when he was getting used to the people around him as well. RAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH im so sad. the "What If It Was Good?" will never stop chipping away at my brian.

cringe culture is dead and that extends to jess too. buddy i wish i got paid fat stacks to roleplay a self-insert mary sue character and include silly references to my favorite media.

i also love seeing people's self inserts, ocs, yumeships, rarepairs, aus, headcanons, cosplays, and roleplays!! i have my own complaints with aphverse (doesn't everyone?) but any expression of genuine love towards the series makes me way more happier than rereading the same twelve critiques endlessly.

what's your favorite mcd and myst ship (mind the randomness of the question you don't have to answer)

I gotta be honest that's a hard one for me to answer cause I'm one of those aroace-spec freaks who is obsessed with love and I ship too many fucking things.

When it comes to myst the hill that I would die on for the longest time is Zanemau and I still proudly stand on said hill, you cannot tell me that if Aaron wasn't as poorly written as he was/Jason's self insert that Zane and Aphmau wouldn't have been end game.

I do though have so many rare pairs I wish I could talk about, but I don't wanna be the little weirdo who's got to strangest rarepair ship ever (Ivy×Blaze)

For mcd it's kinda complicated. The ship I had for the longest time back when I was in middle school was Kaitmau, to an extent I still kinda do, but I also loved Kaitlyn×Jeffory, so like, idk if they be poly or smthin or if she would just go be with Aphmau after Jeffory bites it. But of course myst ended up runing that for me cause of Sylvana and Eric getting together (I still adore their relationship they are so meant for each other, myst kaitmau just can't happen sadly) but I'd have to say none Aphmau related ship would have to be Kenmur/Emmalyn or Donna/Logan, which I know is wild (/j).

Emmalyn's just always been one of if not my favorite character in all of the Aphverse (other than Modzilla, those two fight to the death for first place). And Kenmur's devotion and softness towards her, especially at the start of season 2 when they come back from the Irene dimension made me scream when I was rewatching it. He loves her so much and they are such silly little nerds.
