People don't "forget" that it's not two-party. It simply is two party, for every useful purpose. On January 20th 2025, one of two men is going to become President: Trump or Biden. You can vote for anyone you like, but one of those two will be the President, and so your choice should be evaluated in the context of whether it actually gets you any of the policies you want. In a first-past-the-post system, voting for a third party takes a vote away from the likely-to-win-candidate you like least, which is the same as giving a vote to the candidate you like least. Don't believe me? Look at Clinton beating Bush: Ross Perot carved off a chunk of the right-libertarian base. If two thirds of Perot's voters voted for Bush instead, he wins enough states to beat Perot.

So: primaries are a great time to express your orthodox highly-moral and absolutist opinions, but the primaries are over. General elections are two-party contests, and they are for winning and governing. In France and England, they did not send the far right packing by adhering stoically to their parties -- French people voted for third and fourth and fifth parties they disagree with on core issues, because they hate fascism. They held their nose, looked at the buttons marked "MORE FASCISM" and "LESS FASCISM" and slammed that second button immediately; they did not even look at the button marked "I GET TO SAY HOW I REALLY FEEL". You can say how you feel later.

But look, in four years we'll be right back here again having this same argument -- assuming President Trump doesn't abolish elections and add four Justices to SCOTUS -- if we don't work to change the system. Systems like Ranked Choice Voting let you express your honest preference, and then when your hopeless idealist third-party candidate flames out with 3% of the vote... your vote will still count for defeating fascism.

Ranked Choice Voting is literally the only way America will ever have functioning three- or four- or five-choice elections. Your third party candidate has zero -- I promise you, mathematically zero -- chance of winning. So instead of that, vote for the candidate (or party) that is most likely to change the system to give you more options. I'll let you study this map quietly and come to your own conclusions.

(Also, anyone who tells you "they're both equally bad" either has terrible judgment, or stands to benefit from you abstaining, or both -- which means you should not listen to them.)

what’s kinda crazy is that, had filbrick been a better father and raised them in a loving home, the twins probably could’ve actually made a lot of money for the family… stan was never accommodated for while growing up so he never got to demonstrate his smarts (and he is very smart, he taught himself advanced math and shit while building a long-lasting business from scratch, man), and instead he was made to feel more and more worthless, like he had nothing to contribute to the world—the only purpose he was able to find was to always be there for his brother. what was he if he didn’t have a brother to be there for anymore? of course he would eventually lash out over losing ford (and accidentally ruin ford’s project in the process). on the other hand, ford had so much pressure on him that he pushed himself too hard to prove just how smart he was. to prove that he was the best. he needed to hear how smart he was, because what was he if he wasn’t a genius? of course bill’s manipulation worked on him. of course he wanted to make something that could change the world despite the potentially dangerous nature of it, something that would put his name in the history books. his only value was to bring success to his family, and this was how he was going to do it. if stan had been encouraged and supported, he could have used his skills to find success. if ford hadn’t been put under so much pressure, he wouldn’t have needed to turn to a literal demon so he could prove himself. he could’ve focused on the other groundbreaking research he already had in gravity falls. stan probably never would have broken that project in the first place and ford would’ve made it to his dream school, just like filbrick wanted.
