I will sometimes read posts about how some words are meant for a specific purpose ("delusional" for example) and can't help but compare the narrative to The Giver's "precision of language, Jonas."

Yes, some words exist in two contexts. There is medical terminology, for example, or terminology used in a particular field. And then there are common everyday meanings that are often muddled and diluted versions of those same terms.

A person who experiences delusion and psychosis from a medical standpoint is definitely different from a person feeling irrationally upset because of some harmless everyday moment. But the word's meaning can broadly encompass both, depending on context.

And context is important.

Saying you're OCD because the common narrative is that people with OCD like a neat, organized life dilutes what it means to have the actual illness. But whether words need to be policed in that manner... I'm not sure.

The Giver and similar dystopian fiction suggest that maybe that's not always a good idea. Sometimes, we have to recognize that part of the meaning happens in the context around it and allow imprecision as part of the overall narrative that humans with differing experiences might not all mean the same thing with their words. And in those cases, clarification and creating shared meaning might have to come first.

But shaming others for the words they use, I think, is not the way to go.

Every time we read something new about that subreddit, I'm silently thankful that members of my system avoid it like the plague.

Some places are just not good for one's well-being.

First thing... I really don't know where the myth that alters always take a long time to switch comes from.

But as far as I can tell, it is a myth.

Second, even if it wasn't, many systems experience co-fronting, where multiple alters can front at once and the body can be controlled by any alter in front.

More than that, there's a practice you can do, tulpamancers call it proxying, where you write things for other headmates.

At its simplest level, people hear voices in their head say things, and then they write down what those voices say. If you understand how journalism this works, this should be easy to understand. I have no idea why this very simple concept seems so hard for r/systemscringe and r/fakedisordercringe to process, but it's one they seem to struggle with a lot.

Something coming from a given headmate doesn't actually mean that particular headmate was fronting at that exact moment!

I would honestly rather not bring up any of the things that I have suddenly felt land in my consciousness, but also, I would much rather think through it to make sense in advance before anything actually happens, so:

1.) The default option. What “the default option” refers to I am unsure - to the best of my knowledge, that could range from any single plant in this place to even whatever 🌺 is. Assume this as the safe option to happen for everyone except for me (a common trait that would be the case for a question specifically asking how I’m “gonna die today.”)

2.) While not completely sure if this is better or worse - once again, for me that is - experiments… let’s avoid this one please as I have enough going on in my mind and existence as it currently is. Once is far too much, and twice? I wouldn’t even like to imagine that in theory.

3.) Why is “apparently not soup” on this list…? Is this a common enough occurrence that it has to be stated as an option that won’t happen to me? No further comments on this one, primarily because I’m not even sure how to comment on it.

4.) Much like the prior item on this list in terms of asking why it is here, but honestly, the much more reasonable alternative - which I hate to say - “it depends on which version.” One has a mention of things such as bedwars while another varies to… let’s just refer back to answer number one for the second half of this ranged comparison.

5.) This list could horrifically keep going, and the first option alone is enough for one to handle for more than a lifetime based on my personal experience. I’ll leave you to infer or apparently add to the rest of this list as you desire for now.
