Hey, uh, why the fuck are you letting known criminals near children? Like, yeah they claim to be "reformed" but they still tried to end the world. Plus they almost killed a literal child multiple times.

Let's clear some things up: they never actually tried to kill anyone. Their actions nearly caused the accidental death of Mare (@aura-acolyte), but it's not like they were targeting her. On a related note, Mare is young, however she made the same choice that many other young trainers have, to put her life endanger to save others. This is not something I condone young people to do, much like I am against kids begining their trainer journey at ten, however she put herself in that danger.

As to why I've invited them to teach at summer camp? To show the wider public that people are capable of change. I run a rehabilitation facility; second chances are what it's all about. Archie and Maxie have put in the time and effort to correct their wrongs and make the world a better place. We share the same goal of helping Pokémon who have been hurt by humans. Foster Island is also no stranger to helping those who have made bad choices. You can check it out in the pinned post, but we run a program to help ex-grunts get their trainer license reinstated while they help retrain "aggressive" Pokémon to be ready for forever homes. The kids were going to be around "criminals" regardless 🙃

Hey guys, so if you know Baldur's Gate 3 this is an AU for that with Hardenshipping but it's really fucked up. I will explain why it's fucked up below the cut.

Maxie is a High Half-Elf Warlock (his patron is Groudon), and Archie's a Human Fighter <3

Also I just realized this is the first time you have seen me draw Archie seriously lmao my bad guys I'll try to draw him again soon

I took a ton of inspiration for various things for these designs, including Guile for Archie's armor bc I love Guile sm!!

I'm going to tell you this now... this gets really fucking crazy and honest to god I know I'm going to have a hard time explaining this. It WILL be quite long and I WILL be yapping.

This AU is really just something we did on impulse and it's really fun to mess around with, so I'm hoping you all will enjoy the concept as well :)

I'll try to explain it simply as I can. I thank you in advance to all who sit here and read this ily sm if you read it all <3333

Anyways, okay so imagine how one could do a bg3 AU for these two fuckers...

And throw it right out the window because you'll never guess how me and my friend have done it.

The Backstory:

This all started when my friend decided to play BG3 for the first time, and he jokingly said to me "Should I make Maxie our main character??" and I replied "I you want, but I won't force you" and thus BG3 Maxie was created, and his misadventures began.

Now your probably wondering (if you've played the game) what about the guardian?? Who did we make the guardian?? Well, we made Archie the guardian. However, I did not know just how wild this idea would get within the next few days.

So, eventually we realized how crazy the BG3 lore actually is (it's a like fucking DnD campaign idk how we didn't realize this beforehand), and so, we jokingly started our own "AU Lore" that ties in with the BG3 Lore.

If you really want to know, I have an entire note in my notes app dedicated to keeping track of what happens. It is very long.

The Parasite:

Now, if you've played the game or know anything about it, you know about the Mindflayer parasites. Well, one fateful day, me and my friend joked that the Parasite in Maxie's head was this little freak who looks like Archie.

The two have no correlation other than looks, its completely coincidence and it's not a mimic situation. The Parasite "Archie" does nothing but talk nonsense to Maxie all the time, and initially the bit was that he only talked about Fortnite. All because I made the joke that the dream realm in game looked like a fortnite update. By now, that bit has fallen off (thank god), replaced by just general nonsense and lies.

Weird little freak. This is just one of his talk sprites I have, this is just his neutral expression.

So basically it's:

- Maxie was supposed to be on a Geology research trip, but instead he got dragged into the Parasite issue with the rest of the companions. He really just wants to get home to Archie.

I am the one who handles everything for Maxie in this AU, I do his voice, I handle his lore, etc.

- Parasite Archie is this 1 foot tall, neco arc-esque version of Archie that sits on Maxie's shoulder and tells him nonsensical things. He also says Maxie's name wrong, he says Maxie's full first name and pronounces it as "Maximilliam" instead of the "N" at the end. For Maxie it's like handling a toddler but the toddler fights back, doesn't shut up, and threatens your life. He also has a ton of his own lore that my friend continously adds on to, so I can make another post with just the parasite's part of things.

My friend handles everything with the Parasite himself, comes up with the lore, does the voice, etc. I simply keep track of it.

- The "dream visitor" version of Archie is not real either. It's linked to the Parasite in ways that if I get into it, I will spoil a good chunk of the game. Sorry. Just know you can consider this and Parasite Archie kind of as one in the same almost.

- The REAL Archie is still at home, completely unaware of what's happening, while Maxie is fighting for his life. He does miss him, though, and hopes he gets home soon. He and Maxie are only boyfriends, they haven't gotten married yet. (They also haven't been through their rivalry yet, as this all takes place before that happens.)

Sorry for the convoluted yap sesh, I just have more art planned for this stupid AU and- God I cannot possibly just post this shit with no context. Like, I'd have to explain it eventually so I might as well do it now beforehand yk 😭😭

I might do separate posts with our HCs and some silly conversations that have happened between Parasite Archie and Maxie if you guys would want that :)

Also, I do have all of the sessions from where my friend plays the game recorded and I'll be sure to post some clips of what Parasite Archie sounds like eventually, possibly with snippets of my shitty Maxie voice in there as well. You'll get to see the talk sprites in action with that, too.

However, the reader tried their clothes on first as they look in the mirror and mimic their partner, then their partner comes out of the shower to see them in their clothes?

You sighed as your boyfriend's clothes laid on the bed. The shower could be heard running from the attached bathroom. It was clear that he had forgotten them when he went off to clean up. Picking them up, you headed into the room to leave them on the counter. Yet, as you did, the mirror caught your eye curiously. The clothes in your hands were distinct… Fascinating even. They gave a certain signature presence to your boyfriend as he wore them. A sight that was impossible to not recognise. You picked up a piece of it and had an idea. He would not be out of the shower for a decent while longer, as he had just gotten up and needed to wake up still.

🌧Archie🌊

💧 The Aqua Leader slid open the shower with a yawn to reach for a towel he had laid nearby on the toilet. He would have simply continued onwards to dry himself off – his dark hair dribbling water endlessly onto his face. Instead, he spied you after he dried his face off. You stood wearing his wetsuit and bandana. He cocked up a brow as you struck a confident hand on hips pose. What were you doing? A chuckle came from when you suddenly startled, spying him in the reflection of the mirror. Turning your head to meet his real gaze, he finished wrapping the towel around his waist and stepped towards you. The suit really did not fit you all too well, but he thought it looked adorable on you. He debated having one made for you even… There was a certain appeal to you donning an Aqua uniform that he would not deny. Besides, he already saw you a member. Why not just make it official?

💧 “Is this you trying to take over my crew?” he teased you lightly, bringing his arms around your waist and burying his face into your nape. “Guess you are one of the top people I'd trust to Aqua if I ever stepped down…” Archie mumbled. You grew a bit flustered at his words, drawing out another chuckle from him. He thought you were far too cute. Really, a nice surprise this morning for him. It certainly was helping wake him up. His hands travelled to play with the anchor chain around your neck as he took in your body wearing his clothes again. “Though, do you think you could pull off a beard? It's an important part of my look, Luvdisc–” You cut him off by kissing him.

☀️Maxie🌋

🪨 The Magma Leader slid open the shower door and reached out for a small towel to wrap up his hair and dry his face. At first, there was little to take in since he had not yet put on his glasses. He was vaguely aware that you were in the bathroom, but when he finally put them on, he stood shocked. You had dressed yourself up in his Magma uniform and stood in a stiff pose with your arms locked behind your back. Your face was forced into a neutral expression. He was momentarily shocked. What… were you doing? What was this? He had no idea why you were wearing his clothes. It was far too early for this. There was no caffeine in his body yet. With his towel wrapped around him, he stepped toward you with a befuddled expression. You turned to meet his gaze with a now playful expression.

🪨 “May I inquire as to why you are wearing my clothes?” His hands rested firmly on his hips. He doubted that you wanted to take over Magma… Really, only one person seemed to have that goal for some reason, that was unknown to him. “There is no opening for you to fill at this time,” he shook his head. You pouted at him before quickly switching to mimic his expression. He nearly let out a shriek when you reached over to snag his glasses. Maxie was glaring at you as you placed them on your face. “Those are prescription!” he warned, “… Really… What has come over you? It's too early for this…” You decided to have some mercy on the redhead by placing a sweet kiss on his cheek. His face then matched his (covered) hair.

☕️ As he slid open the shower door, he carefully dried off his face. He had heard you come in and expected that you had brought him his clothes. As his attention moved to the counter, he stared at you. His suit was far too big on you as you attempted some serious pose. The Flare Boss pondered what in the world you were doing, alongside how strangely adorable it was to see you in his ill-fitted clothing. It was almost comedic how badly they were suited to your body. Granted, it was especially tailored to him, and he was not a normally sized person. Striding to your side, he watched as your expression morphed into shock for a moment. He gave a soft smile. You were so adorable… Utterly precious. Simply next to his idea of beauty in such a high regard… He could not resist you in any way, it seemed. His hand cupped your cheek as though you were made of fragile glass.

☕️ “How adorable you are, my love,” he said simply as his piercing eyes met your own. The usual terrifying passion that burned in them was replaced with a softer ember, showing how true his feelings for you were. “Are you wishing to imitate me?” he questioned, wondering just what drew you to the idea of wearing his clothes. Your cheeks grew warm. His gaze softened further. All the ugliness and cruelty in this world… It all felt miles away when he was with you. His thumb stroked your cheek softly. “… Do you wish to have a suit like mine? I will have one made for you at once…” His heart raced at the thought of you joining Flare and working with him for his beautiful world, “All you have to do is ask…” You proceeded to just catch him unawares by standing up taller and pressing a kiss to his lips. He eagerly returned the affection.

☄️ The exhaustion in Cyrus's bones seemed unable to leave as he finally turned off the shower and stepped out. He had heard the door opened and figured that you had brought him his clothing that he had forgotten in his morning tiredness. Drying his face and wrapping his towel around himself, he glanced at the counter. You stood there, wearing his clothing. Your arms were locked behind your back in a stiff pose that he usually took on. His clothing fit you a bit strangely. He was mostly confused as to why you were even wearing his clothing. It was a strange look on you… Though, he supposed, it may have had its appeal. Well, were he not so tired. He strode towards you wordlessly, placing a hand on your shoulder simply to catch your attention.

☄️ “… Beloved, what is this?” he asked, face deathly serious. It was almost comparable to telling him that his company building was burning and all his precious work was trapped inside. You shifted nervously. Why did he look so… mad? He sighed. It was obvious that something had now made you nervous. His uniform looked odd on you… The sleeves were just a tad too long, hanging over your hands. The pants were similar. The vest hung on your strangely. Why did…? Why did his cheeks feel warm? He swallowed. “May I ask that you return my clothing?” he spoke softly, trying to mask whatever strangeness was happening to him. You apparently caught onto it, however. Suddenly, you pulled him in for a kiss, shocking him. He could not understand why both you wearing his clothing and this simple show of affection made his heart race so much. All he could do was curse spirit for drawing such strange things out of him.

HARDENSHIPPING: A PRIMER

you’ve probably heard of hardenshipping before. even if you’re new to pokémon, the posts about maxie and archie’s hardly ambiguous relationship have probably crossed your dash before. but just who are these two old men? and how does one find out more about them? can one even get into a ship from a game that’s almost twenty years old now? (yes! please do! there will always be at least a couple people still enjoying the ship, and what with the streams of new content constantly coming out and being pulled away almost immediately, it’s a real breather to take a look back at the things that’ve come out in the past.)

the key players

hardenshipping is the ship between maxie, the leader of team magma, and archie, the leader of team aqua. they debuted in pokémon ruby and sapphire in 2003, with maxie starring as the villain of the first game, and archie starring as the villain of the latter. maxie’s goals as the leader of team magma are to expand the landmass of the world – making more room for growth and development by the humans that live there. archie, meanwhile, desires the opposite – as the leader of team aqua, archie’s sights are set on the ocean. he wants to engulf the world with water, making more room for the pokémon that dwell beneath the hoenn region’s vast seas. while in ruby and sapphire, the team not cast as the villain works as your ally, the enhanced emerald casts them both as villains and you as the intermediary.

in the remakes, omega ruby and alpha sapphire, maxie and archie’s roles are upped to eleven. while in the original games, maxie and archie were somewhat similar in terms of personality (even using the same dialogue at times), the remakes gave them more distinct personalities and loads more lore. maxie became more of a calculating, cold character – a professional with a short temper and no mercy when it comes to fighting you. on the other hand, archie’s love for the sea and pirate persona gained prominence, and although his goals are still those of a supervillain, he treats you more as a rival, even calling you a little scamp with a big grin on his face. we learn more about their backstories as well – maxie and archie used to be on the same team once upon a time, and both end up harboring a desire to make things right with one another by the end of the game. even seemingly aloof maxie keeps a telltale boat model in his hideout, with not a speck of dust to be found on it. between archie talking about maxie’s bony backside and the soft song that plays as they reconcile, there’s ample room to think that yeah, there’s definitely something going on between these two.

why are they called that?

pokémon ship names have been written differently than your typical name-fusion ship name for a while, and often the first part of the ship name will have something to do with the characters involved. (for example, jessie and james from the anime are called rocketshipping.) when lava meets water, it hardens. hence, hardenshipping. magma and aqua.

are they canon?

depends on what you mean by canon. the heart-shaped valentines’ card posted circa 2016 by the pokémon official twitter (complete with cards called “maxie’s hidden ball trick” and “archie’s ace in the hole”) certainly leaves little to the imagination. you don’t have to consider them canon, of course, but it’s safe to say there’s at least a bit of evidence pointing directly at the idea.

how do i play the games?

i would personally recommend oras first, but the original games can very easily be emulated by looking up roms and a gba emulator online (i remember there being a post with pokémon emulation resources going around a while back, so i’ll add that on if i find it). if you have a 3ds and a friend who’ll lend you a copy, you could play oras like that, but although you can find the games for their original sales price online, you can also easily watch a playthrough without commentary on youtube (there are TONS) if you can’t or are just looking to catch the story bits. (i’m not an expert on 3ds emulation, but that’s always a supported option, too. it’s a bit trickier than gba emulation but it works.) the game’s about four and a half hours through and well worth it, especially for free.

what about other stuff?

there are lots of different iterations of canon when it comes to pokémon. maxie and archie come back in ultra sun and ultra moon as their ruby and sapphire selves, pulled forward from a timeline where their plans succeeded. the manga takes a darker turn with their characters, and although i’m not personally a fan, it might be up your alley if you prefer your villains less …supervillain (and your enemies to lovers heavy on the enemies part.) i haven’t watched much of the rse anime but while it hasn’t followed the game characterization for characters like cyrus too closely, it’s always an entertaining watch. and sometimes people post screenshots from the mobile game, but i suggest looking up those on youtube as well, as they’re not too long nor hard to find. the mobile game and usum are tied to/inspired by game canon more directly, but the manga and anime are their own separate interpretations, and not generally considered part of the main “game” canon.

tldr: these two are really great! consider them if you've got the time!
