congrats! You get to give one explicitly queer arc to a character that doesn't have one. Who do you choose, where do you put it, and why?
i'm probably the wrong one for this question because i truly do love the way riverdale plays with implication and queer coding in the style of the hays era / love-letter-to-the-celluloid-closet type shit, but with clear and obvious intent and spite and awareness and fun.
that said. jughead. make jughead reckon with himself a little bit. his repression is like. the most world-shaping repression. and that would be so neat and fun to try to draw his awareness towards, even just a little bit. s5 bret ww plot where he sends jughead a book review analyzing all the queer subtext in his novel and the aggression he feels towards that archie stand-in character (and jughead has to go to the prison to debate him ferociously about it of course). or hell, have him do it to the short story during the original stonewall plot, when they're roommates. or have s7 veronica do it when jughead shows her all of those troubling troubling comics.
(you can tell my heart isn't in the "explicitly queer arc" assignment bc even in these examples i'm imagining jughead finds a way to "if i'm repressing something i'd like to keep it repressed" it all and not really take any action. but maybe he gets a blowie or a homoerotic close-face-to-face argument from bret about it first.)
OH ALSO. i think archie and joaquin should have hooked up in juvie. no constructive changes to the arc just an even more homophobic flavor to the institutional abuse and even more tragedy when joaquin betrays archie at the end of the arc.
