do you pencil traditionally and then colour digitally, or do you just have a very convincing digital pencil brush? I really love the organic, sketchy feel of your work.
I always sketch and ink on paper first, then scan the piece and color it digitally.
Happy Last Scarland day! Here's my Rolling Down Mainstreet and Hotel Architecture work for @scarland-artbook🎈🎈

The entire scene uncropped:
Hotel Drafts:
For the hotel, I thought about the hallways and the general opulence and ambiance when you walk in (chandeliers, check-in counter, tiling on the floors). I mapped out all of the rooms (e.g. the outdoor patio, the lounge, the café/deli, & Scott and Fwhip's decorated rooms).
A few inspirations I took were the following:
Sun & Thirteen Cantons in Soho
Great Central Pub at The Landmark London
Prince of Wales Hotel at Niagara-on-the-Lake
I also wanted to consider an elevator for access... And if I had more ideas outside of the hotel layoutway honestly I'd keep designing with laundry chutes and more hallways and a pool. I love hotels
also some progress shots under the cut bc I took a couple!
the amaaaazing concept sketch done in like 2 mins
initial color blocking! i had no idea how i was gonna do the tentacles here and took a break
each individual element (ice, shark, kraken) are fully rendered, but I still had to make the water feel like, y'know, water. things really started clicking when i made part of the shark not covered by water and added the ripples, because it really helped sell the illusion that there was depth to the piece and it wasn't all on one layer.
Trying my hand again at some digital art once again cuz I really wanted to draw Gem with her season 10 aesthetic :) I’m really excited to do some watercolor pieces of her base too!
genshin!leo’s concepts get their own post bc my god i had so much trouble with his design. i added red/green annotations for why each design was scrapped and what parts i chose to keep, so yall can follow my messy little design process lol
these iterations are generally in the order i made them with the last gif being mainly me testing the how the cape flow + glowing sections/runes would look before putting them all together in the final 🤔
