i love that andy weir never kills his protagonists. it would be so easy to. at so many points. by all means they Should be dead. mark gets stranded on mars and the planet works against him at every turn. jazz's suit fails on the surface of the moon and she feels herself begin to die. ryland is sent on a suicide mission then gives up his chance at return for his friend. they should all have died. multiple times in some cases. but they don't!!! because weir isn't writing tragedies, he's writing stories of hope and humanity. they survive even when it should be impossible for them to because of connection. simple as that.
art for my fic Astra Inclinant, Sed non Obligant which is over! after over a year of work and thinking about it it's done, it's written.
The art is very specifically for very early on in the fic, I might do something for them near the end because things change
more details and individual mosaics under the cut + a silly burda thing I did
individual mosaics, these were so fun to do for each one
me when I have the ability to edit my wips, burda happy ending edition
the fic itself takes place 2 weeks after the end of the world, and is about the three healers and their places in that. Where Artemy's been in it the longest time, Clara knows the most, and Daniil is lost for first act
it has 3 acts where act I is the least organised, act II has these guys get to be happy (SHOCKING) and act III is the downwards spiral towards the end, I was actually so mad at myself writing the last chapter bc I wanted them to be happy writing it lol
the fic is set in my own world, which will get explained throughout the writing, but the characters don't really know what's going on all the time, and it's fun to have a world that's a bit looser
This started about a year and a half ago when I was discussing this world with a few friends and started assigning, Artemy was pretty much decided from the start, but the other took me a while to really get them the right role in the story
Andy Weir is so so good at making a HUGE impact when a character cries or breaks down. The rest of the novels are usually pretty light hearted and suddenly BAM. TEARS. and it just really gets me. It suddenly reminds me of the massive impact those kinds of situations would actually have because these people are HUMAN. The reality of what they are going through. Amazing 10/10
Thinking about how the Andy Weir Space Trilogy all end in basically the same place they started. The problematic status quo is now the soft landing.
Watney is isolated and relying on the help of others to survive. At the end of the book, he is isolated at home and relying on the help of delivery people to get groceries and maintain his health.
Jazz Bashara is broke and in debt to her father. Thee crimes, a heroic rescue, a self sacrifice, and a million credits later, and she's broke from fines and in debt to her friend.
Ryland Grace is an asocial teacher with exactly 1 friend. Two saved worlds later, and he's a teacher on a new planet with exactly 1 friend.
And that's ok. You don't need to move up or down to change.
Just thinking about it a lot
Edit: this blog loves and supports trans people! Always and forever!
Every day I tell myself to focus on one AU at a time and then I go and make another AU because ADHD be like that sometimes.
Anyways, here is a silly little space AU I'm calling Project Artemis for now. The whole gist of it is that Tails, Amy and Sonic are off to find the chaos emeralds that have mysetriously blasted themselves into space. Along the way they meet a pair of aliens called starlings in the form of Silver and Blaze who seem to exhibit a weak signal similar to the chaos emeralds. Shadow, instead of being part black arms, is part starling in this AU and is roped into this whole mess by way of wanting to figure out what exactly he is.
This AU is kinda prime for ships too but I'm not sure how much I want to focus on that aspect.
