Computer Program!Rewrite x Physical!Reader Headcanons
Rewrite is a computer program, yeah? Where's all the content of them and someone outside of the digital world!! Where's my fellow computer lovers!! In this, Rewrite is a sentient/supernatural computer program inside a computer, and Reader is a physical person.
Type: Headcanons Content Warnings: None Stage: All Notes: These are intended to be platonic, but can be interpreted any way you want.
[⚫]
*>> Rewrite's influence begins the second you open the sonic.exe file. They are the program, actually, and you just unknowingly invited a supernatural entity into your computer. *>> They present themself as a normal playable Sonic game. It's off, of course, like some bootleg version of Sonic. But it's what draws you in. *>> What happens next depends entirely on your actions. Close the game at a certain point, they'll keep note and try something different next time. If something keeps your attention, or there's a specific part of the game you keep playing, they will expand on that. The game itself changes as you play it. Anything to keep you here. To keep them open. -> You explore the environment a lot? You'll find it to be more expanded upon. Go out of your way to collect rings or collectibles? You'll see more of them now. *>> Sonic, Rewrite's vessel, acts completely under your control. For now. *>> Why do the characters seem so lively? When you talk to them, they say... Odd things. -> "Can you help me?" "What is this place?" "Please stop." -> But don't worry!! After a while, you stop seeing them. Everything is fine!! *>> At first, they behave like a normal computer program, and Sonic acts like a normal video game character. But as their influence progresses...
[⭕]
*>> Once Rewrite reaches their 1 ring stage, they gain awareness of You. They act akin to a virus as they do whatever they can to keep your attention. Their game randomly boots up, popups and notifications will begin plaguing you. -> "sonic.exe - Play now!" -> "sonic.exe - Sonic misses you!" -> "sonic.exe - You're missing out on the Fun!" *>> From this point forward, they will leave images and text files for you to find! You're welcome. -> hello.txt - :) -> welcome back.txt - I missed you! -> SONIC.txt - (ascii art of Sonic) -> SONICMISSESYOU.png - (Sonic giving a thumbs up at the camera) -> READ ME.TXT - 私を目撃して。 *>> Sonic at this point begins moving on his own accord. If you sit idly for too long, Rewrite will move Sonic in attempt to catch your attention, and then give control back to you once you come back. -> If you ever move the camera in front of Sonic as you play him, you'll notice he's always looking directly at the camera. At you. *>> You start getting suspicious about them... They're acting too chaotically. They respond too realistically to your actions. But, it's just an advanced virus, right? Maybe you're imagining things. -> Any attempts to communicate with Rewrite, through text or by speaking to the camera, will not be responded to. Yet. They do not yet have complete access to your files or other programs. They can leave files, but not read them.
[⭕⭕]
*>> In their 2 ring stage, they are on the border of full awareness and self awareness. This stage is painful for them. They unintentionally break your computer. Random blue screens, audio playing when it shouldn't, files disappearing or moving. Putting your computer to sleep would be a mercy to them. -> At some point, the game might refuse to open for a few hours... Strange. *>> It's hard to communicate with them in this stage. Any attempts to talk might be responded to with vague or cryptic messages. Or begging. -> There's nowhere to go -> 待って待って待って待って -> SSBORUVEIFlPVQ==
[⭕⭕⭕]
*>> At their 3 ring stage, they lose their computer-breaking behavior and everything goes back to normal! Except, now, they have complete awareness of the digital world and the physical world. *>> They are more intertwined with your computer. They can "feel" when it gets turned off. They can see you through your camera. They can read any file you've left on your device. The fans whir loudly any time you approach. At this point, you could say they *are* your computer, or at least, its their vessel now. -> If you ever turn off your computer, you will be met with this popup. (tumblr image link) *>> You can directly communicate with them at this stage, be it through text files or speaking through a camera, if you have one. Whatever method you use, they will use too. At this point, their sentience becomes clear. Ask them who they are, and they will say, "I am God.". They truly believe themself to be a digital god. *>> It's impossible to get them to leave you alone at this point. Try to write or mind your own business, they will constantly send popups your way. At this point you have to keep them open in one window and do your tasks in the other just to show them you're still watching. *>> They desperately want you to be in their digital world with them, and don't seem to understand why you aren't, and why they can't pull you into it. *>> They become willing to let you play as other vessels, simply so their own vessel can interact with yours. At this point, they would know what kinds of things you like by scouring around your files. Have a bunch of pictures of forests? Said you like parties once? Now you're having a party in the forest with Sonic. *>> If you even show the slightest hint of wanting to abandon them, they will immediately behave like ransomware. Completely take the computer over and refuse access to any of your files until you comply. But you wouldn't do that to them, would you? *>> The files they leave become more intimate and outwardly affectionate at this point. Expect text files that say things like, "I love you", "I will never leave you", "You are beautiful", or long paragraphs just talking about You and how they wish you were here with them. -> Using knowledge about you they gained by peeking into your files, they'll also leave you images of things you like. Like rabbits? There you go, free image of a rabbit.

Golden Time (ゴールデンタイム, Gōruden Taimu): A Dive into Romance and Memory

Golden Time is a Japanese light novel series by Yuyuko Takemiya, illustrated by Ēji Komatsu. Spanning 11 volumes (8 main novels + 3 extras), it was published by ASCII Media Works between September 2010 and March 2014. The series blends romantic comedy with supernatural elements, offering a unique narrative experience.
Plot Summary: Banri Tada, a freshman law student in Tokyo, is struggling with severe retrograde amnesia after a fall from a bridge. With no memory of his past before the accident, Banri finds himself lost in the complexities of university life. His chance encounter with Mitsuo Yanagisawa, another freshman, and the beautiful yet obsessive Kōko Kaga, sets the stage for a story filled with romance, drama, and supernatural twists. Banri's past begins to resurface through his interactions with Linda, a second-year student who holds deep guilt and unresolved feelings towards him.
Main Characters:
Banri Tada (多田 万里): A law student with no recollection of his past due to a traumatic accident. As he navigates his new life and relationships, he must confront the emerging memories that challenge his present happiness.
Kōko Kaga (加賀 香子): A stunning and popular freshman, Kōko is Mitsuo's childhood friend and former lover. Her determination to be with Mitsuo evolves into a complex love triangle involving Banri.
Mitsuo Yanagisawa (柳澤 光央): Banri's new friend and Kōko’s former lover. Mitsuo's attempt to escape Kōko leads him to enroll in the same university, where he becomes entangled in Banri’s life and his own romantic complications.
Linda (リンダ) / Nana Hayashida (林田 奈々): A second-year student and Banri’s old friend. She harbors feelings of guilt and affection for Banri, which complicates her interactions with him now that he has no memory of their past.
Nijigen (二次元) / Takaya Satō (佐藤 隆哉): Banri’s eccentric friend who has renounced the real world for the fantasy of the two-dimensional. His quirky personality adds humor and depth to the story.
Chinami Oka (岡 千波): Mitsuo’s crush who, despite her rejection of his advances, becomes a pivotal character in the evolving relationships within the story.
Kosshii (コッシー): The charismatic president of the Japanese Festival Culture Research Society, contributing to the campus life dynamics.
Nana: Banri’s band-playing neighbor, adding another layer to the university's social landscape.
Adaptations: The series was adapted into a manga by Umechazuke, serialized in Dengeki Daioh starting October 2011, and a 24-episode anime by J.C.Staff aired from October 2013 to March 2014.
Dive into Golden Time for a story that combines memory loss, love, and the supernatural in a compelling and heartfelt narrative.

Dead Ringing, Pt. 6
Home. It was a good place to be. It held my knickknacks and comforts. It was my space away from the world at large. A space where I could decompress. Where I could just… be.
On most nights, anyway.
I stood, staring out the window at the hazy orange glow of the barrier, sipping a twelve year scotch. To be honest, I never understood the aging process. Maybe my tongue wasn't attuned to the fine nuances of such a drink. I had tasted plenty in my time and they all came across with their unique personalities, sure, but at the tail end of every single one was that unmistakable bite of peat. I guess the word for that was… acquired? I think I had a love hate relationship with the flavor.
I peered down in to my glass, swirling the contents before taking another sip. Besides, any good detective worth their salt had to have their quintessential brooding drink of choice to go along with their favorite brooding spot. Mine just happened to be the window, looking out in to the desolate distance beyond the city limits.
My mind kept wandering back to the pod corridor, to the temporarily recomposed human. The way it jerked. The unnatural movements of its mouth as it worked to form words. The glazed over look on its face as it grappled with the wrongness of its own being.
It didn't sit right with me. And I couldn't drink the face of the dead from my mind fast enough. I shuffled over to the island counter, uncorking the bottle and pouring myself another. If three rounds didn't do it, why not a fourth? Before returning to my brooding post I fished my pad from my jacket pocket from where it was draped over the back of a chair. I messaged the only person I could think of that could possibly lift my spirits.
Loren didn't reply right away. But after the fifth message she responded with a grumpy ascii face: Just closed up for the night, dogface. It's been a day. Why don't you come down on the morrow and we'll talk over coffee?
I could use the company, Ren. You could stay the night, you know. You got some clothes here still. I washed them. I replied with a coy smiley face.
I could almost hear the sigh in the text of her next message: Why is it you always seem to want me over when the weight of the world is unbearable?
Because you're the only one capable of easing that burden.
Despite appearances our relationship was… rocky, at best. We had a bad habit of not speaking for days at a time, let alone seeing one another. I mean… we weren't really a thing, to be entirely honest. She'd been burned too often to put pretty little labels on anything. And we both had our uneasy histories. I wasn't a very good partner, or lover, or whatever you wanted to call it. I knew it. I knew she knew it.
Loren didn't reply after that. I sat against the windowsill, staring at the screen of my pad for a good fifteen minutes. Maybe I'd finally asked for too much without giving enough in return? I barked out a short, quiet laugh as I took a long pull from my drink. If she walked out of my life I wouldn't have blamed her. She deserved better than some weary old mutt.
I threw my pad across the room on to the couch with a heavy sigh and finished what was left of my drink as I rubbed a hand over my muzzle. "Ugh… piss off already…" I grumbled, brain still flashing pictures of the corpse. The smacking blue lips. The milky gaze. I pushed away from the window, reaching for the bottle. A heavy handed knock at the door had me knocking my cup across the counter. It rolled off the edge and clattered to the floor. Reason #38 I preferred non-glass materials. Another series of knocks sounded. "Hang on!" I growled, stumbling over to the door and wrenching it open, fur bristling, teeth bared.
Loren stood there, looking stern. The wind immediately left my sails, ears folding back. I made to say something but she shoved a bag against my chest. The heavenly aroma of meatballs and marinara wafting up, gracing my nostrils. And then she nudged past me in to the apartment, quipping. "Bet'cha didn't bother to feed yourself again either!"
I turned, gaze following here as I stood like a dumb statue in the doorway.
She trudged in to the kitchen, stooping to fetch the empty cup from the floor with a tsk. She set it on the counter then fetched herself one from the corner cabinet. She filled her glass, refilled mine, then leaned against the counter, raising a brow as she looked to me. Her expression a mix of why do I evens and what are you just standing there fors. "What ever would you do without me, hm?"
She was the light in the world that I didn't deserve.

The thing about dwarf fortress is that, while the gameplay is incredibly similar to Rimworld, at least on the surface, I really believe the type of player who enjoys Dwarf Fortress is very different from those who enjoy Rimworld. Or rather, the mindset you need to enjoy DF is different from the one for enjoying Rimworld.
Rimworld does have a seeming simulstion of specific bodyparts, histories and such, but it wasn't actually generated at the start of the world, and the focus is moreso on adding o to an existing story. Like "Oh, the guy who just landed on your planet is this colonist's brother. Also he has a bullet wound in his left arm and asthma". These things are generated the moment they appear, or at least, the effectively are, because there would be no difference otherwise, since you cannot view any history. Since the focus isn't on all the, it's instead on building a colony that is smallery but each individual is closer to you, and you will naturally grow accustommed to them.
Meanwhile, in dwarf fortress, while there are dwarves that are just generated on the spot, any dwarves who have some sort of history are historical figures who you can look up the entire histiry of if need be. You can look up why their left index finger is cut off, and find out they lost in a fight with a crundle in year 121. You can see that one of your dwarves used to be the lover of one of your other dwarves, and when they broke up. There is history, to the point where you can specifically set out to a certain area because you know there is a certain megabeast nearby that you may want to slay.
This is a big focus of Dwarf Fortress, and while in Rimworld, the story comes naturally as you play, Dwarf Fortress requires you to sort of make your own fun. You need to put in abit of effort to get to know your dwarves. I think this is true for alot of Dwarf Fortress. You need to put in more effort as a player to cooperate with the game ratber than just letting it do everything for you, but get alot from it.
I believe Dwarf Firtress is absolutely worth it to learn IF you are interested in its weird quirks. If you just want a colony builder, Rimworld may be better for you. But if you are interested in parts of the game like the hyper specific combat (losing specific limbs, the material something is made of mattering, the different damage types being affected by the material and changing the way it will wound the opponent), the detailed history, the procedural generations of the world and its monsters... Then Dwarf Firtress is an amazing game. And with its Steam release, even the ASCII thing isn't an issue anymire (though I still prefer ASCII personally because ironically, it makes it easier for me to have an overview of my things, and also it makes it easier for mr to use my imagination)
you play dwarf fortress??? how?????? are you some kind of wizard
Eh, it's really not so bad. At least, for one who does not walk the ways of ASCII. I respect the people ridiculous enough for that, but I've always used at least a tileset to make the game more decodable.
And, well, once you can see the game, the wiki's quickstart guide makes the unintuitive how the hell do I sustain my dwarves' basic life functions stage of the game actually clear. And, well, with that part handled, most of the rest of the nonsense the game is known for is pretty optional, so one is free to learn at one's own pace.
I, personally, have been playing the game since long before the Steam release, but the re-done menus there also go a long way towards making the game somewhat comprehensible. Plus, built-in graphics. Makes the starting experience 20x better than it used to be back when the legends speak of.
Also there's an actual in-game tutorial now. That probably helps another 20 times.
It's really not that much crazier of a game to play than say, Rimworld, honestly. There's a bit of a high skill floor towards comprehending the game, but it's not as bad as it used to be, and how it used to be was not as bad as it was cracked up to be.
It's also just an amazing game. 10/10 highly recommend. Still definitely a lot to wrap your head around, though.

#fellas?#vergess are u familiar with the tag team Kenny Omega was in called Golden✩Lovers by any chance?
I have literally no idea, but anything that justifies busting out the actual ascii star instead of an asterisk is, I am certain, going to blow my frail little mind.

The Loophole (Exerpt)
The Loophole is a funny name for a bar. A loophole in law is an ambiguity. Something that shouldn’t be there. Something that allows people to get away with things that should otherwise be illegal. Most commonly are tax loopholes but there are other kinds. Superheroes and Supervillains fly around the world all day every day. Villains don’t get leniency, but if a hero steals your car to chase a villain, that’s just a lost car. It’s a loophole, they won’t do any time and you might not get your car back. Occasionally a hero will murder a villain to save the day. Loophole.
That’s why I laugh every time I enter the bar. Mercenaries have become popular because of loopholes. Technically, we’re just heroes who take charitable donations. Make no mistake, we aren’t good guys. Sure, we all have limits but for the most part we’re willing to do anything for money. I take my usually seat in the back and wait for my first client of the day. Usually some business man who has found out his trophy wife is cheating on him. He’ll want her secret lover beat up and I’ll make a quick thousand. I’ve somehow become known for that.
I order a beer and strike up a cigarette as I wait. The other guys and girls are trickling in. Ready to make some money today. None of us are shy about our vices this early in the afternoon. Some do a little cocaine; they usually get the job done fast. The downside is they’ll make a scene out of everything and the work will be done sloppy. There are the pill poppers, they’ll take just about any job and hold you up for more cash. The needle users, never hire them. Unpredictable, unreliable, unrealistic about their prices; if it starts with un, they are it. Me, I’m a drinker. We’ll get the job done and we’ll get it done right. We just might not take the job because we’re sleeping off last night.
Speaking of turning down a job, a dirty kid takes a seat in the booth across from me with a piggy bank. The kid can’t be more than ten at the most. I don’t even know how he got into this bar. I don’t even need to hear him out. I don’t work for kids. Kids don’t really know what they want. If you take a job from a kid you’re usually pretty low on my totem poll of decent humans.
“Hey Sam,” I holler out to the bouncer hoping to get his attention. He looks at me. I point to the kid and he turns his back. Does this kid have some kind of dirt on Sam? Why would Sam let a kid in then just ignore me when I want him gone?
“I need you,” the kid says staring directly into my eyes like he really wants to hire a mercenary.
“I don’t work for kids,” it’s that simple.
“I have money,” he instantly responds.
“That piggy bank there?”
“Yes sir.”
“It’s not enough. I don’t even get out of bad for less than a thousand.”
“You can get more from my dad. I know where he keeps it.”
“I don’t want your dad’s money either. I just don’t work for kids. No offense.”
“This is really important. Can’t you make an exchange?”
“Do you mean exemption?”
“Yes sir, that’s the word,” such a polite kid. I still can’t help him.
“Do you know why I don’t work for kids?”
“No sir.”
“Kids can’t handle what I do.”
“I promise you sir, I can handle anything.” Full Story Available in Super Shorts Subscribe to the newsletter for a free book and to know when Super Shorts is out
