The only thing i'm worried is that I don't want to start a series and then finding out in the third bookthat the author made the antiheroic genderbent mao protagonist throw the metaphorical atomic bomb on the japanese because the author is an american descendent of a Chang Kai Shek general and wanted to absolve the yankees to grant herself a career (it worked greatly). I think TLT is definitely informed by leftist politics, and it has many themes that lend themselves to juicy interpretations on top of a really meaty worldbuilding and characterisation. THERE'S SEASONS OF THE DEEP GREEN?! /delighted

this might be a super basic question so let me know if you'd like something more specific, but could you like, outline the seasons for me? like, 1 or 2 sentences of pitch or summary each, kind of thing? I'd love to have the Shape of the story in my head so that the details can slot into it >:D

THERE ARE THERE ARE this is what happens when you've had this server since december 2021, lore has had time to accrue sdlkjsdg

in surprise to Nobody At All i've got a little playlist for each season, with songs in chronological order hitting the main lore events & emotional beats of the story (& trying to touch on all three characters' povs), so i'll link each of those too

SEASON 1 (playlist)

Season 1 begins with the founding of the Deep Green, when Icarus & Grond explored the cave system near spawn and did their zoning. Season 1's themes involve community, establishing relational ties, politics, & power dynamics, since it's when most members were joining, building friendships, and maybe partaking in a little bit of political treachery & blackmailing. 0:) The closing event of Season 1 was Sisyphus's trial and execution, following their accidental use of the "/clear all entities" command which resulted in the murder of every living thing. Literally nothing has been the same ever since that mistake.

SEASON 2 (playlist)

Season 2 covers Sisyphus's "atonement arc" (aka them gathering resources & animals for each player as an attempt at making amends for the murders) until their departure. Themes for Season 2 include magic (belief vs unbelief), trust vs distrust, and fraying relationships/unraveling ties. This is the season that the cavern began; Sisyphus began secretly growing skulk in a cavern under their house, Icarus began grasping for more stability & control over her friends, Sisyphus & Icarus's friendship started fraying, Kore found a camel, and the skulk situation kept escalating until Kore & Icarus staged an intervention because they were convinced their entire home was in danger. In response, Sisyphus decided to leave the Deep Green for an undetermined amount of time.

SEASON 3 (playlist)

Season 3 takes place during Sisyphus's absence. cc!Crim (the human being) spent these months working on a Secret Build somewhere else on the server, while Kore & Icarus were left alone on the Deep Green. Season 3 covers themes of reaching out to others vs isolation, absence & grief, fear vs paranoia vs support, and action/preparation/defense. Korus (<- Kore+Icarus's duo name) continued letter correspondence with Thalia* in hopes of finding more answers about the skulk/Wardens; they burned down the skulk in the cavern; they strengthened their friendship together once Icarus stopped grieving Sisyphus's departure alone in her house for like 3 months straight (<- the canonical explanation for cc!Elle taking a break from minecraft last spring XD); Icarus's paranoia continued to spiral/grow; and possibly most importantly, Korus made direct contact with the Magic. The Magic as a whole will take too much time to explain in a pitch like this, but Season 3's closing event was the "encounter" with the Magic when it directly responded to Korus's attempt at communication.

*Thalia is Crim's oc from the dream smp that they made, like, five years ago. XD through a series of events we canonized Thalia (& c!Elle & Bluebell, mine & rozu's dsmp ocs) in the Deep Green universe; Thalia & the other l'sonas live far away from the Deep Green post-dsmp-nuke-ending and Thalia writes letters to Sisyphus/the other residents sometimes. It's delightful and silly and I love it very much

SEASON 4 (playlist)

Aand this is where we're at now, babey!! We never know how long a season is going to be until some big event takes place and we all look at each other & look at the themes and go "hey guys. I think a season just ended and another one's begun." XD So I don't know the themes of Season 4 yet, but I might posit "forgiveness & grace" being one of them. The large events so far have been Korus following the Magic's direction beyond the Deep Green's walls in search of the source of the skulk (that's been continuing to spread in the Deep Green). They found Sisyphus, had multiple confrontations, went through Sisyphus's creepy memory-room labyrinth (<- the very epic build cc!Crim had been working on), got Sisyphus's painful backstory, and eventually reached the point where Sisyphus has returned, remorseful, to the Deep Green. Unfortunately during that process Icarus's and Kore's friendship has fallen apart yet again, so we've got the running joke that Icarus is apparently only capable of being friends with one (1) of her friends at any given time. XD So they're all still in the messy middle of things, but Caruphys (<- Icarus+Sisyphus's duo name) at least is slowly on the mend. We'll see where things will go from here. >:'D

16. A line from the series that stuck with you.

First thing that comes to mind is what L says after Lind L Tailor dies, right at the end to taunt Light. "But I assure you, L is real. I do exist. Now, try to kill me." Hearing that for the first time gave me such a rush. It was the moment I became obsessed with Death Note and made L my favorite character for years. In every adaptation, I always looked forward to the Lind L Tailor scene just to hear L say it again.

22. A favorite Death Note theory.

Can't think of a favorite right now, but I love anything that explores Wammy's House. The fact that we know close to nothing about the place allows everyone to make up their own ideas which is fun.

I think it already existed as a normal orphanage before Watari found L. It was after L's detective career kicked off that they created a subsection dedicated to preparing potential heirs. I don't think the institution's sole intention is to raise successors for L (since there are students like Linda who went on to pursue other lines of work), but they do look for children who excel in certain fields and take them in to hone their skills. This is in the hopes of raising them to become highly skilled/powerful/influential people who can be contacted by L whenever needed. Having Wammy's alumni in politics, science, media, etc. would be very useful even if they never pursued detective work to succeed him.

I've thought a lot about the people who work at Wammy's (primarily the educators there) and the criteria/rules for being accepted. Specifically for the one in Winchester, which I believe is the "main" location directly tied to L. Surely at least some of the people who work there must know of the place's ties to L and have been sworn to secrecy. It's important to have people they can trust around these kids since their connection to L puts them at risk with all the enemies L has.

I think the people who work there have extensive background checks done on them to ensure they don't know any of the children prior to entering. This is to avoid the slim chance that they might know a kid's real name. Because even if Wammy's destroyed every single document they could find of these kids' original identities, there are still people out there in the world who know them. If they're found to have a possible connection to anyone, they're turned away immediately.

This sort of becomes the basis of the conflict I have for my OCs - one who was previously a student at Wammy's and another who was previously a teacher. During the background check, they don't manage to catch that they had met once before and thus the teacher knows the student's real name. The student, not wanting to get her teacher into trouble, agrees to keep it a secret. What follows years later is the catastrophic result of her old identity being stolen and used by said ex-teacher with a vengeance against Wammy's. But that's a whole other story lol

🟥How long do you spend in edits? PROBABLY NOT AS LONG AS I SHOULD. like. i sometimes write out of order and in that case i'll probably go over a scene a bunch of times rereading and making tweaks, but like i am SO guilty of screaming through writing a chapter and then giving it a loose copy-edit pass and content-wise fixing mostly only pacing of individual sentences, and then format-fixing for ao3 before i post. I SHOULD take more time for edit and polish, but... when it comes to fanfic specifically, i am woefully impatient to get things Out.

💪What motivates you to write? a specific kind of inarguable madness. i honestly don't know how to describe the way it works. when i started writing penumbra fic for instance, i just got obsessed with the voices? the character voices. I could hear them in my head. and i got fixated on scenes and dialogue that didn't exist yet, and eventually it hit a boiling point and instead of muttering exchanges to myself i actually started writing them down. like literally its a compulsion. a compulsion that DOES require hard work but a compulsion nevertheless. i write because i love reading and sometimes the things i want to read don't exist yet!

(I publish because i love engaging with community about writing and characters and stories and ideas)

seriously though it's not even 1 pm and today has legitimately been one of the worst days of my life (family stuff, don't ask) so this was super needed and appreciated. thx for the little giggle lolz

anyway yeah aerospace/astronautical engineering is kind of a weird place to be :P it's kinda niche and the workload is insane, so people burn out quick and the ones who stick around actually enjoy it a little too much tbch. the vibes are a little weird because half of my classmates are like me and there because it's a long time special interest they're willing to commit several years to and the others are obsessed with military tech and really want to be a part of that development. and they're pleasant people to be around, like they're polite and stuff, but i have actually had a conversation with a classmate who told me (and i'm quoting here) "well, i'm not the one pulling the trigger, so i'm not responsible for anything." and his ideal career paths were working on stealth bombers or hypersonics :///// yikes. there's a reason we're not taught ethics especially since military contractors are the primary ones snapping us up for jobs right out of school. ironically though the actual rotc kids are the nicest of that bunch and tend to be super collaborative and friendly? but i'm not joking in one of my first year classes we took a poll of the group's favorite movies and i shit you not over 50% of the class said one of the two top gun movies and another 15% said interstellar X__X (mine is scott pilgrim btw cuz i have taste)

luckily the yippee creatures of the class are very aware of how fucked up the industry is and willing to talk about it so there's still hope. my personal strat is to make myself a very competitive candidate for a very niche subset of the industry without very many "defense" applications lol. :D especially since a lot of those "defense" jobs are in the middle of nowhere in like, texas and alabama and florida. so not exactly the greatest places for me to be. i'm super interested in ion thruster design and development and there's a couple of startups on the west coast that are working on that so i'm crossing my fingers. tbch i am so fed up with the actual industry that i'm genuinely considering going all-in on my online "content creator™" presence just to have some shot at avoiding it. i have been having an actual existential crisis for about 3 weeks wondering if i actually made the right choices in life

but yeah the actual workload will crush your will to live unless you actually enjoy it. my classes this semester consist of incompressible fluid dynamics, dynamics control systems, structural mechanics, numerical methods, and astronomical computer simulation development >_< i'm gonna dieeeee!! and probably need an insane glasses prescription by the end of the year with the amount of coding work i have to do. plus i'm trying to score a research position and finishing up a senior-level independent study lol AND this semester i'll be driving back and forth between school and home (which is three hours each way eugh) to go to concerts and shit with my dad, but hey free tix are free tix. so in case you were wondering why i barely draw anymore, this is my life now X__X alsoalso my faculty advisor for the independent study is nonbinary and giving me job advice! they're super cool i love them foreverrrr

as for my actual hands on experience i'll admit it's limited :PP mostly because it's super hard to score industry experience before the summer before junior year and i was in recovery the whole summer so i literally couldn't hold myself upright for more than a few minutes. but i've done a bunch of projects for classes + uni-funded ones too!! my biggest claim to fame (lol) is working on a three-stage rocket designed to fly to the karman line (which is the Super Official Divide Between The Atmosphere And Space™ lol). everything except our motor was built in-house and i worked on structural design and analysis, so my job consisted of

a) working on and approving cad models of each component before we sent them to the fabrication team,

b) stress-testing all parts the fab team sent us to ensure they were flight ready (there is a picture of me somewhere sitting on a chair precariously balanced on top of three sandbags on top of a giant tube filled with more sand and our nosecone, because sand under enough pressure puts a similar kind of stress on a nosecone as it experiences in flight),

c) fixing any uneven surfaces or manufacturing errors on our parts, and

d) doing so. much. documentation. i have to be totally honest, like 75% of aero/astro e is writing the most boring papers you will ever read in your life :[

and i also built a 3d cad model of the opportunity mars rover from scratch with only official promo pics and rover "selfies" and that thing crashed the lab computers twice and took a week's worth of 8 hour days in the lab + 3 all-nighters. fml but she was so worth it thooooo

La gloire à mes genoux par Le rouge et le noir - if you listen to anything, listen to this one!!! It's in my top 3 favourite songs of all time. 2010s "opera rock", whatever that means, it's amazing and the lyrics are so catchy (to me at least), the singer puts everything into the vocals, and the instruments behind it are nice too.

Pomme, especially Ceux qui rêvent, je sais pas danser, soleil soleil, Nelly, jardin - sad, slow, repetitive lyrics in a good way

Danser avec toi par LeFLOFRANCO - Manie Musicale winning song last year! Very smooth and dancey. From the same year, there was ON VA YEKE par Black M, which is similar in some ways - look up the story behind his song Je suis chez moi!!

Enfants du monde par Yaniss Ouda et Danakill - if you listen to anything besides for La gloire à mes genoux, listen to this as well!!! Another one of my favourites. It's very upbeat, happy, about sticking together and fostering community. The music video also has pro-PS imagery even from before the recent global awareness :)
