Intro to Book

What is it about?

- The book is a recuse type of book, collecting the siblings and getting them into one place. With the addition of two other siblings, Bumble ( @th3inb3tw33n 's oc) and Alastor (my OC)

- There is generally no shipping, no T€StT, or anything romantic. The book is generally based on family bonding and action fighting. :D

Where have the boys been planted?

- More or less where do each of them live? Raph was the only one who actually got to stay with Splinter while the rest ended up at different places.

+ Bumble and Mikey ended up at Big Mama's. With Bumble being the assistant and Mikey being a Battle Nexus Fighter

+ Leo and Alastor ended up back with Draxum, though at age five Alastor was given to the Foot Clan. They both were to grow up to be weapons.

+ Donnie lived with a single mother yokai and was generally treated nicely there. When Donnie was seven or so the yokai died and Donnie had lived on the streets ever since.

He might say we’re into some shit but it seems like he does not care. Yet another reason why ship / age discourse and hanging onto his opinion doesn’t matter. We’re already commiting sins against canon by doing things that Jhonen says isn’t a part of the show anyway, like shipping in general. And he says so himself - enjoy what you enjoy. He doesn’t give a shit.

It's crazy how much people invest themselves in seeking Jhonen's validation for purity culture discourse when prior to Zim this guy was most famous for an ultra-violent horror comic about a serial killer. Like, I'm pretty sure most people who create and consume horror media have an innate understanding that the entire point is to explore the taboo from the safety of the realm of imagination. Nny even goes on a rant in one comic dismissing the idea that media influences people to become violent and Professor Membrane in one episode of Zim says "Video games develop hand-eye coordination and make children into better human beings" as a direct rejection of contemporary conservative talking points about video games causing violence.

Now the boring part, rules!

- the ship "aftermare" is between Geno and passive/uncorrupted Nightmare. You can use the corrupted version but the 2 must have known the other before corruption <3

-you can use aus (you can even do crossovers if it tickles your funny bone :3)

- Nightmare must be adult obviously !!!!! (I'm saying that since canonly Night' had the accident when he was 6 >w<)

-there are 2 prompts for each day, you must choose one OwO/

-Ooooooor you can mix the two prompts ;). For exemple : day 4 -> "a runny walk" ; day 6 -> "fleeing fight" etc (there aren't as easy to combine as the last years since they're short :P)

-Have fun, mess around, break the rules (not the rules I'm writing here tho 'k òwó). I love seeing creativity ! Jump over days, mess with the order, find an original way to follow the prompts or just ignore them ! I dunno, collaborate if you feel like it! The prompts are more guidelines than anything :D

Okay – question for the underfed Voltairist.

The textbook I'm reading gives his name as "François Marie Arouet de Voltaire", which... seems wrong to me (since he wasn't "from Voltaire", nor was he an aristocrat). Is there any instance of him using "de Voltaire" as his name?

I'll preface this by saying I don't know a ton about how the "de" specifically worked and how exclusive it was to the aristocracy, but there are definitely some examples in the 18thC where you see upper-middle class families without any aristocratic precedent just sticking it onto their names to sound more noble, which I'm assuming was aided by the fact that government documents and stuff at the time were kind of lax with what you put your name as because of different spellings and whatnot; Voltaire got them sent back a couple times when he tried to put just "Voltaire" instead of "Arouet", but they were often fine when he used both, and he almost always misspelled Arouet.

On to the actual question, there are also definitely instances of V using de Voltaire as his name, because like the above-mentioned families, he very much wanted to be an aristocrat. The earliest example I can find is from his dedication of Œdipe to the regent's wife in 1719, where he signs it Arouet de Voltaire:

I'm trying to find the first place he uses the name Voltaire, cause I'd be curious if he also says de Voltaire there (I would assume yes?), but it's not in the Wikisource correspondance 😔 I'll update if I find it though.

There's also the incident with the Chevalier de Rohan in 1726, which as a short summary, Rohan made fun of V changing his name, V insulted him back, Rohan sent people to beat V up, and V got sent to the Bastille for planning to duel him. As one does. There's slightly differing records as to what exactly both of them said, but Rohan's question is often written as being "Monsieur de Voltaire, Monsieur Arouet, comment vous appelez-vous?", so based off that, V was publicly going by "de Voltaire" by that point.

For an example on a legal document, here's how he puts his name on Marie-Françoise Corneille's wedding contract, where the made-up "de" is a bit overshadowed by the made-up chevalier:

Seigneur de Ferney is real at least I think, and gentilhomme ordinaire is since he was allowed to keep the title even after quitting the position, but Tournay is in Chambézy, so I'm assuming he's just adding shit to make the title longer lol)

I'm now completely blanking on whether I usually see secondary sources include the de or not, but I feel like it's usually written like that when it's Arouet de Voltaire? I know Condorcet's biography calls him "M. de Voltaire"

hate my sister's shitty good for nothing boyfriend. can you imagine being a 30yo man with two kids who won't even scramble an egg. Not for his kids, not for his girlfriend, not for himself. literally if my sister doesn't leave out pre-made meals when he's watching the kids he will rip up bread or pour them dry cereal or open a granola bar and make himself microwave dinners. like, lowest effort possible. but if i mention this to my sis, she'll be like "no he's definitely cooked for the kids! he scrambled an egg for them once! i watched him do it!" but it's like...so he scrambled one egg in the last five years. just to like, prove he can? at your direct insistence? should we all clap? like seriously. hate this guy. had to really hold back recently because he had someone over and he was interacting with the kids more than usual for appearances, and he had to keep asking me and my sis what the 5yo was signing because he barely bothered to learn his own son's primary form of communication. i was so tempted to say "that one means 'go home' but you wouldn't know that because you don't take them anywhere." so hard to hold that in. If I had to describe this man in two words they would be these: Low Effort. Not quite bare minimum, but JUST enough to convince my sister that it would be too much hassle to get rid of him. he's stupid as fuck, but just smart enough to quickly stop shit like screaming obscenities at the kids for doing normal kid things. and he once stomped on my headphones and broke them in a fit of rage, but gave my sister money to replace them so it was "fine."
