When I asked my friends what beetle Paul would be, they all said “a ladybug”, because apparently Paul is a woman to them. I didn’t choose a ladybug because of that, though, I chose it because they are cute, and Paul is ‘the cute Beatle’. I chose this species specifically for its markings. I didn’t want a standard red, black, and white ladybug for two reasons; 1: The white spots on the thorax give the impression of eyes with a very severe and sharp shape, and 2: The bright red does not give Paul vibes. With the Cream-spotted ladybug, its eyes are clearly visible, round, and dark. The colours of these beetles range from orange to dark brown in Europe, which are much more Paul-adjacent— still fairly bright and showy with the white spots and the swirls on the thorax, but toned-down enough to not seem too flamboyant or excessive. Despite the fact they are strictly carnivorous (the opposite of Paul), ladybugs are associated with gentleness and are appreciated by gardeners as a beneficial insect. This corresponds pretty well with Paul’s polite, people-pleaser image.

George: Ellipticus testaceus

I chose this particular beetle for George mostly for its shape. I liked how the thin, fairly long legs were emphasized by the black, maybe corresponding to George’s lankiness. The abdomen being shaped like an oval coming to a point could either simply reflect George’s sharp features in general, or his generally agreeable, yet sometimes harsh personality. The orangeish colour of this beetle is also fitting for George due to the colour’s importance in hinduism. These beetles have little impact on humans, which I think can represent George’s image as “the quiet Beatle” and him being overlooked early on.

It was immediately obvious that Ringo would be a weevil, but with such a broad group, it was hard to choose. Apart from the ‘snout’ weevils are known for, I also picked weevils because of their eyes. A weevil’s big, shiny-looking eyes fit with Ringo’s often wide, sad-looking ones. The rounded and exaggerated shapes of this weevil lend themselves to the sort of comical yet gentle image Ringo has, while the black and white colour pallete gives it a slightly more refined air, maybe even paralleling a suit.

They shrouded themselves in cloud, scanning for a good spot to land. Somewhere they wouldn’t be noticed. It was hard to find anywhere devoid of people in a city like that. But at least by the office buildings, away from all the restaurants….

‘Over there,’ she said, and they ducked into the shadows of a dead-end alleyway, where they de-transformed and fed their kwamis, who then ducked into hiding again.

Free of the costumes, it hit him that this was the first time they’d been alone together since the akuma. Well…apart from the kwamis, now out of sight. The first time they weren’t scrabbling for answers for their very shocked and confused teenage son, or worrying about the twins, or trying to make sense of time travel. The masks were off and it was just…them. Adrien and Marinette.

With no one to pretend for anymore, she looked smaller than she had all day. This was a side she only shared with him, the very real vulnerability she only felt safe enough to show to him. Whatever happened…whatever they’d both done over the years…this, this was what lay underneath.

She had to have her reasons for keeping things from him. She wouldn’t hurt him for no reason. She loved him – he could see that love swimming in her eyes as she stared up at him.

He took her hand. ‘Marinette….’

Her lower lip wobbled and her eyelids were heavy, her shoulders drawn in with uncertainty. As if she wasn’t sure how he felt about her anymore.

All his residual anger melted away. Okay, she’d screwed up – but that was life. People made mistakes sometimes. He’d made some himself – some huge ones. And when all was said and done…she was only holding onto that Guardian title for his sake.

A gulf had formed between them – but it didn’t have to stay there.

Excuse me please, I have a question that I would like to ask. What do you think the Gabriel Agreste brand would look like in real life, or just in general? I ask this because I'm a newbie when it comes to fashion and because I want the fic that i'm writing, Émerveiller, to tid bits of fashion in it. I want to really understand how to talk about Gabriel as a brand and fashion in in my fics. I want to write a Gabriel who does Haute Couture and not Fast Fashion. How I write him will be up for debate, but the part that I really don't want to get wrong is the fashion aspect. I say this because fashion itself is an integral part of Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir so for my Miraculous fic, I really want be close with my writing of Gabriel as the brand and other fashion oriented characters.

I ask this of you because when I read your fics you have seem to have a way with describing fashion that I really like. Especially when talking about the Gabriel brand or talking about the things that Lila and Adrien wear.

Opinion first: Miraculous Ladybug is a show centred on fashion, but I personally don't think it does so particularly well, because a lot of the fashion is abysmal and because fashionable character never get a chance to show their talent. Marinette, for example, makes one-off hats and honestly uninspiring unisex fashion lines and Gabriel, even though he owns a fashion maison, there's never any episodes devoted to his career. Adrien walks down the catwalk wearing the same suit in three seasons. Fashion isn't a focus in Miraculous Ladybug, it's a backdrop for the superhero business. In fact, I think fans are a lot more fashion-focused than the writers themselves, a lot of their designs do surpass canon.

Back onto topic: If you want to write haute couture, you should know that it's not just a fashion term to be thrown around, there's strict guidelines on what kind of fashion can be considered haute couture. The Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture is a French governing body who, alone, has the power to decide what can legally be sold as haute couture. Fashion houses has to follow strict rules such as:

Designs must be one-of-a-kind, and the buyer must attend up to five fittings.

An atelier that must employ at least 15 full-time staff.

50 original designs must be created during each biannual fashion season.

Not all luxury fashion is haute couture. Dior, CHANEL, and Fendi are haute couture. Bulgari, Loewe, and Acne Studio are not. A big thing about haute couture is that it must be one-of-a-kind. No buyer wants to spend around 25,000 euros on a dress only to realise someone else can wear it as well. All the dresses and suits you see on the MET Gala red carpet, for example, are haute couture made for that specific celebrity only. They now own the dress and its design, and no one else can ever wear something similar.

Haute couture is also, rightfully, accused of being Euro-centric. Because of its demands and Paris-based governmental body, most fashion houses considered haute couture are French, Italian, and Spanish. The only Asian haute couture designer I know is Yuima Nakazako.

Haute couture is different from prêt-à-porter, or ready-made fashion, where the clothes are mass-produced in general sizes such as small, medium, or large, and your favourite pair of Versace pink satin pumps can also be someone else's favourite pair of Versace pink satin pumps.

According to Thomas Astruc, Gabriel Agreste is as famous as Jean-Paul Gaultier, Yves Saint Laurent, or Michael Kors. But that statement doesn't give us an idea of how Gabriel designs, only what kind of fashion designer he's as famous as.

Personally Gabriel Agreste seems like the very classic Parisian, black-and-white chic to me. I also do think YSL when I see him, but only because Adrien would look amazing in Saint Laurent.

In a lot of my fics, Adrien wears YSL's legendary smoking jacket and Wyatt harness boots.

My prose reads like thousands of little ribbons unraveling so very sweetly. Every thought is something smooth; if you dipped your fingers into them, they would ripple iridescent. This morning, on my way to university, I took a look at the grass, which was vibrant green, and I marveled at each little sparkle pearling on each little strand, like beads of blue morning sunlight. This is where the divine sleeps. Holy water. I crack my fingers, I render them supple. I remember my mother saying the most beautiful hands she had seen belonged to one of her children, me; I remember my siblings’ cousin telling me I got my hands from who he believes is my grandmother. I remember, when my mother told me my father was somebody I never knew, asking her about my hands, where they come from, and she told me they came from her. My height comes from my father. My hair comes from my father. My eyes come from my father. My lack of soul comes from winter.

I always watch my step, and I’ve just seen a butterfly resting on the sidewalk; I kneeled right then and there, because catching such an ephemeral creature immobile is the rarest experience. Lace fabric is a pastiche of the wings of a butterfly; it tries to replicate the delicately carved veils and their perpetual apotheosis; what it can’t emulate is the hypostasis, that of weightlessness. This butterfly, she was beautiful, showing off her wings for me and letting me take note of the purple bleeding into orange, which reminded me of myself, and of October by James Tissot, which hangs on a lilac wall at the museum. It reminded me, also, of the leaves turning copper; as she lay there, shining her brightest, iridescent, waiting for someone to step on her, she served as a memento mori. Nature morte.

All hobby updates:

Im not going to put any short stories on here anytime soon. I'm writing something right now and I need to put all my energy into that for now. It's not saying I never will, just for now I have other goals. I already have my next 6 writing projects lined up. I'm going to see those to completion before anything else.

My banjo practice has been heavy on the music theory studying. I'm going to be learning some songs. I'd love to do some covers. I have some original song ideas as well. I wrote like a verse for a song idea and a chorus for a different song idea. That's musically what I have in the works. I'm prioritizing banjo and writing. These are things im doing daily, they make me the happiest right now.

I also have not been working on my comic strip. I still firmly have 4 ideas for different comics. I want to share my first one because I've been working on it since January but it's not ready. I'm not going to set a date with this because it's a passion project that I value it being made to my standards more than validation now. (Honestly even this tumblr is a passion project no one has found me or like me enough yet, but I know the right ppl will, thank you to the few ppl that have engaged with me!) I hope this year I can get it to my standards. We will see!

My comic book idea is still firm, I'm actually writing on that but haven't been practicing the drawing portion. I still haven't decided if I'm going to figure out how to do a Kickstarter to hire an illustrator. Right now I'm loving the idea of me writing and drawing my own comic hero. She's so cool I can't wait to share her. My art in general is mainly just focused on the strips and book but I am going to expand eventually when i am confident in my skill. Art is going to be an ongoing thing and playing with different mediums as well. I am doing colored pencils and watercolor pencils for the time being.

My casual hobbies are taking a backseat. I'm still going to be making felt dolls and crocheting it's just going to be a whenever im between other more pressing hobbies.

I've written 2 poems so far. I had a few more written but I didn't like them enough to count it toward a book. So its 2 poems I am proud to potentially share. I need to look up how many poems in a standard poetry book. That's something I'll try to work towards. A poem a week. It will be mainly sonnets. This will definitely be self published. It's going to be deeply personal.

My fitness is ongoing and I always update about that seperately. When I actually become a Barre Fitness Instructor I probably will switch to vlogging. I love barre and I really hope that more ppl try it. It has a lot in common with pilates if you enjoy that. It just adds more dance and stretch. I finally checked out pilates to see what it's about. I still like barre more.

It's hockey season my fav team (NY Rangers) is number 1 in the league right now so I'm also watching the games if you want to talk about hockey. I'm not like too much into sports but I'm looking forward to that Mike Tyson and Jake Paul fight coming up. Watching movies and some TV shows is going to give me more things to talk about than sports admittedly. I'll be blogging about "The Bear" when that's back on for sure.

Let me know what hobbies you have or what you are passionate about. I loved the anonymous question I recieved. Realized I consume a lot of dairy in the winter.....
