If parenting has taught me anything, it is the importance of getting down on your hands and knees and teaching not just facts, but love and enthusiasm for the natural world.

This is my son Q and me. I have dozens of photos like this by now, even though he is just two years old.

Every chance I get, I will kneel down with him and show him the little creatures all around us. Especially when they are frogs. He loves frogs for some reason. No idea why.

It is important that we all see this together. It is beautiful. It is magnificent. We are here. It is improbable to the highest degree. It is fleeting, but it is everything we get. And we can get so, so much of it. If we just get our faces into it and really absorb it.

So that's what l'm trying to do here, I guess. Get all of you to join me in the reeds. And I am so happy to have so many of you along for the journey.

What did u think of Luigi's portrayal in the 2023 movie?

I love this high strung, socially awkward little weirdo.

He doesn't want to parkour over "no trespassing" signs or daringly dive underground to save the city but darn it he loves his brother so much he'll follow him anywhere despite whimpering and trembling the entire time. He's not super skilled at talking and prefers to stand behind Mario when meeting new people, but he'll man the business phone all day if it'll help their plumbing company stay afloat and organized.

A giant dragon is ripping out his mustache while demanding information about his brother? All Luigi can physically do is talk about how great he thinks Mario is despite the consequences.

Mario wants to move to The Mushroom Kingdom? Luigi has no clue what The Mushroom Kingdom is like and has experienced nothing of that dimension except fear and danger, but he trusts his brother enough to join him.

He's too soft spoken to get himself anything to eat at the dinner table but he brings his brother a plate of leftovers to make sure he doesn't go hungry!! He wakes up early to make sure Mario has a cup of coffee before they go to work!!!

He stood firm to shield his brother even as solid steel melted around him in 2500°F flames.

He deserves the world.

i just saw someone say that faramir is infuriating because he's self-aggrandizing in claiming that he won't act in any way that doesn't befit his status, and on one hand - i understand the root of it? he does have a courteous, almost formal style of talking. he does openly claim that he would not take this mysterious power (before he knew about the ring) if it was on the highway. he agrees to denethor's characterization that he wants to appear noble like a king of old.

but on the other hand i'm straining at the bit to defend my baby because - infuriating?? when he lives up to the words he is saying?? when the text shows over and over that he's loved by his people, that he genuinely tries to live by those standards (and seems to succeed) - him not killing even animals unnecessarily, him riding back for his men. even his proclaimed dream to see gondor's tree bloom and peace restored, is supported by him seemingly making that transition from steward to king as smooth as possible?

maybe it's because i instantly liked him so much. it just caught me so off guard because this particular criticism never ever crossed my mind. so funny how people will interpret the same thing differently. to some internet user out there, his words are self-aggrandizing. to me, his words are straightfoward and supported by actions - dreamboat central.

Hi, anon! I'm pretty much with you on this one. I've seen the occasional post like that, and I can understand finding his style grating (though I personally love it) or disliking the general baggage associated with Tolkien's handling of Númenóreanness (there's a considerable degree of classism and racism built in to the presentation of Elves and peredhil/Númenóreans in LOTR in particular, while later texts like "The Mariner's Wife" are relatively more nuanced).

But the idea that Faramir is essentially just performing the appearance of high virtue as a sort of imitation of Númenórean cultural values without actually possessing those values or the virtues of the best of them just seems a profound misinterpretation to me. He has flaws, but he's not a hypocrite and he does not fail to live up to his presentation of himself at any point.

He's exactly what he appears to be, a stern and intelligent young man out of step with the current trends of his culture, who still cares deeply about his people and their allies. He's potentially highly dangerous in the way of Denethor and Aragorn, and like them, his personality is hard and unbending when it comes down to it, but he's also gentler than either—the combination of his willingness to act on the threat he represents if necessary and ethically justifiable, with a deep compassion and sympathy for others (even animals), is distinct and really interesting.

I think there's a very important distinction between Faramir performing virtue and gentleness and putting on the persona of a great Númenórean lord in times of peace, and Faramir presenting himself as he truly is and then suiting actions to words, despite the fundamental antipathy between his temperamental inclinations and the circumstances he's been placed in.

Would you say that drawing so many comic panels of bg3 has improved your art skill and if so which traits specifically have gotten better? (the speed of which you draw these is what I aspire to do one day)

I am not good at the self-reflective details, but even though I don't know what I improved, without a doubt I improved something. It's like exercising. You push yourself a lil bit every day and even though you can't see the results short-term-wise...Long term? Healthy toned muscles baby~

It's like killing those 50 rats in the tavern basement in Act 3. Sure you've defeated the Avatar of Death in the last Act, but you still get experience for obliterating 50 rats. 50 experience is 50 experience. Every little drawing and ankle-biting rat counts.

Really the reason I don't know what I've truly improved on is because I've uh. been ceaselessly drawing comics before this, so the BG3 comics were more like casual self-serving therapy on my end. Had to drop everything and give Greygold a satisfactory ending because how dare. I'd say after a year, the spiteful grief has healed quite nicely at least~ Marvelous story that, had me impacted and reacting and everything.

I do think this has helped me loosen up my style though. Was gripped by the perfectionism bug before the casual draws. Obsessed with having everything look like a fully rendered illustration -

Rather than keeping things simple. Had my lineart and shading stiff as a corpse until I got into 'fuck it' expressionism mode.

Had ye ol' classic 'can't see the forest for the trees' drawing priorities. Focused too much on details rather than the big picture.

It will be interesting ( if I do continue my old comic) to see what I do differently now, and to see if I really did improve from drawing sillies for a year.

ITS ALMOST VALENTINES DAAY yippe!!!!

I know Dottore + the segments dont really care for holidays but I like to think Valentines day is one of those exceptions because they KNOW they are going to get spoiled. They all glance at reader (who is oblivious) discreetly as the day approaches.

And when the day arrives they're barely able to focus on their tasks because they can already smell the chocolates from the kitchen. Reader had to lock the door to the kitchen for OBVIOUS reasons.

sidenote: I just had the adorable idea that foxttore will claw/paw at the door like a dog😭 and the pufflings will try to squeeze under the door. Reader probably has to put a rag under the door to stop them.

When reader finally finishes baking and presents it to all the Dottys they are so joyous.... the older ones might be more quiet about their happiness but the younger ones are DEVOURING those sweets.

I like to think Reader also baked some trears for Foxttore and the pufflings... :D

I LOVE THIS SO MUCH... Ah you've sealed your fate the moment you decided to spoil them on the first Valentine's Day spent together! You simply can't set the standards so high and then not go through with it, nope, unless you want a bunch of mopey and grumpy segments on this day of love. (You weren't planning on such a thing anyway thankfully. But somehow you don't notice how touchy they are before the day. Specifically the younger ones. The older ones are beyond that. But I guess they think they could possibly butter you up to give them a few more chocolates... Unfortunately, you're still oblivious and just return their kisses tenfold.)

Not only do you lock the door, but you have to threaten to never make them chocolates again if they dare break this rule... well obviously you'd never actually do that but apparently they're not willing to risk that possibility... very, very strange segments. If only they could behave themselves, they could hug you from behind as you baked... Though of course, Zandy is allowed in because he's a good little boy! Sometimes he helps you or he's just there to keep you company! (You have to keep Zandy's special batch in your room and have him sneak over so you two can eat it together in secret... otherwise, the segments would find out and that would not be fun...)

YESSS FOXTTORE AND THE PUFFBALLS TRYING TO BREAK IN... no poor Foxttore would just give up and sit outside the door all huffy and sad... its favorite human has betrayed it!! but the pufflings, they would have infiltrated the kitchen already, they were there hidden inside the cabinets and under the stove the night before. The ones that weren't there yet just squeezed themself through some other crevice... eventually, you just get them all in and Foxttore is very very happy :3 Its fur coat unfortunately may get a bit messy with the chocolate... you will have to give it a bath later. (I can just imagine, you will turn your back for a few seconds, and then you turn back around to see Foxttore guilty with his paw in the bowl of chocolate...)

Reader would definitely customize the boxes of chocolates for the segments... they would make sure to note down the kind of chocolate they prefer, what kind of fillings they like, etc... and the older segments who have a taste for more bitter chocolates too... :D Not to mention the little notecard with to: and from: [name]...

And let's not forget about our dearest Dottie... he would want to taste more chocolates even after they're done, and to do so, he would simply kiss you repeatedly, savoring the lingering taste of the delicious sweetness on your lips. Yes, he's never cared for Valentine's Day, but when it's like this, he supposes it's not all that bad.

Why have you had Pecco tag blocked? Did he pull the same media shit with Fabio? I am new just 2 months here

hello anon and welcome! ok so this is gonna be long because i want to explain and avoid people taking it the wrong way. first i have to admit it's been a long time and i don't remember exactly what event promoted me to block pecco's tag but it was probably not long after his dui in 2022. believe it or not, it had nothing to do with what pecco could have said about fabio, because i think pecco appreciates and respects him a lot and i don't remember pecco saying anything bad about fabio (in the media at least lol). 

so. i think i already spoke about it but pecco has a habit of saying things that come out as ignorant or as things a '''spoiled brat''' would say. like him and jack miller moaning about not being 'test riders' to ducati, while as a factory rider you know you have to lead developmental work and while ducati was already delegating a lot of the work to the satellite teams anyway (pramac mostly). his reponse after his dui that was half-assed and that he deleted from his socials two days after. often not taking full responsibility for his many crashes etc.

pecco is also guilty (and it's not his fault tbf) of being ducati's number one rider and by this point i think y'all know my griefs with ducati. i don't want to go into details, but it's how they manage riders and the whole way they operate that piss me off. as an example, the way they dealt with pecco's dui really rubbed me off the wrong way. basically they tried with their life to brush it off under the rug, they sent threats to a journalist on whatsapp and eventually blacklisted him from ducati events for a year after he asked about this incident in the press conference because yaknow... why should a championship contender in one of the most famous motorsports being convicted for dui be a big deal right?? also in 2022 when fabio was fighting for his life alone on his shitty yamaha, ducati sending half-veiled orders to his satellite teams to basically not race pecco didn't go well with me obviously. and it's not like it's only assumptions, zarco admitted it on tv and the way some of the ducati management looked at enea who didn't give a shit about orders and raced pecco anyway made it obvious. can you believe people were discussing the possibility of ducati riders letting pecco pass if he was lower than 7th or something and fabio was leading in the gp of the title decider to prevent fabio from winning the championship? people nowadays might not find ducati having 8 bikes that bad because they're all fighting each other but not so long ago the fight included another manufacturer and you might wonder if this situation isn't an open door for manipulations we don't want to see ever in our sport...

AND it was a period around here (the tumblrina palace) when SOME pecco fans were mmh... extreme and unsufferable to say the least. and like i know i'm a fabio extremist and i know i can piss people off (sometimes i'm annoying myself lol), but i don't go and publish fucking tumblr polls about '''whom from my most behated motorsports men should be guillotined''' with marc and fabio (obviously) listed as choices... you could understand how i didn't want to ever see this on my dash (never felt better than after blocking that person). also generally their attitude of 'pecco never does anything wrong' when he DOES do wrong is tiring at some point...

as featured in the lovely drawings contributed by @smokey-cat, kaeya is a peacock hybrid!!! i was tempted to make him one of the big cats (a jaguar, in particular) or a bird of prey, but i think a very eye-catching bird that's heavily associated with luxury and wealth but also frequently regarded as 'background dressing' and wrongly deemed purely ornamental is such a god fit for kaeya. i'm also in love with the idea that, because peacocks can't fly very far and aren't migrational, he's stuck in the same big empty house after crepus dies and diluc goes on his little kidnapping spree self-discovery adventure. it really preps him to be ready to steal away diluc's shiny new mate as soon as his feet touch the ground.

I LOVE THE IDEA OF BATHING WITH DOTTORE... it just seems so intimate and gentle, which is normally the opposite of any activities you really do with the scientist. Helping each other get clean after a long day (what stains are on his clothing? you already know the answer!) Most of the time you like to lean back into his chest as he holds you, you often use this position to force Dottore to stay in the bath longer, no you will not get off him! Or when you're washing his hair, the positions are reversed. He won't admit it but he likes the feeling of you washing him, hands running all over his body. His eyes would be closed, and if you dare to stop for a few moments, he'll open them and you'll get scared from the blood-red eyes peering at you. If you're going to start something, you better keep it up until the very end. I like to think if you're bathing with more than one segment they start trying to bicker in the bath... you have to shush them up because this is a relaxing peaceful time! Also a very good feeling in general, I mean, you have two Dottores all over you. Don't splash water at them though, it'll be 2v1.

I ALSO LIKE MY WATER VERY WARM... my mom yells at me because it's bad for my skin... he and the segments could definitely handle the heat but they would be more worried for you... like surely this isn't healthy for you...? Are you okay? If you burn yourself, come to them immediately.

I LOVE THAT WEBTTORE PANEL TOO!! All his panels are iconic tbh 🙏 I have a post saved with every panel of him, I look at it when I'm feeling insane. Honestly, he would probably have a blank look on his face in the beginning because he can't really believe this is happening, and he's being so vulnerable, and on top of that he's enjoying it all! Dottore's face would look blank but inside his mind is racing with many thoughts. He's wondering if he could get you to do this again tomorrow without seeming like he's being needy.
