Every once in a while, my mind goes back to the Little Mermaid arc. Specifically back to that one panel we all collectively love.

It's a great example of both Hanako's possessiveness and indirectness. Hanako acknowledges the mermaid world would be kind to Nene, especially compared to their current world which is cruel (because it has destined for Nene to die). And yet, to Hanako it doesn't matter.

It doesn't matter. Hanako doesn't care about any of that.

The only thing that matters is that he likes Nene. He wants her to stay with him, in this world, because he likes her.

But you would have to choke those words out of him-- and even then good luck getting him to admit it-- because Hanako has never been the most direct person, has he?

Can't admit he thinks Nene is pretty.

Says he wishes time would stop, but really he doesn't want this moment with Nene to end, because he doesn't want to say goodbye.

Constantly talks like he's just doing his job as a boss to protect his "assistant," but it's nothing more than a convenient excuse. It's not that he feels responsible for her, it's that he cares and worries about her, but refuses to put into words and therefore disguises it.

Nene manages to figure this one out on her own, but yes, Hanako wanted to save her by his own hand and no one else's. If he couldn't save her, then perhaps in another timeline Hanako wouldn't have let anybody else do it either. It's him or no one.

Hanako isn't direct, you have to often read in-between the lines to figure out what he really means. And frankly, from the way Hanako tightly clutches Nene to him in the Little Mermaid arc, I think it's very clear this isn't about her wants or feelings.

Also I want to add that Hanako had absolutely no idea that Nene initially decided to stay with him, but that hadn't even entered his equation when he fished her out. And immediately after, starts talking about her as though she was his belonging.

He never directly says any of this, because that's not who Hanako is, but throughout his entire interaction with Nene and the fish in this chapter, Hanako was basically saying:

"I don't care if your world would be kind to her. I like Yashiro, she belongs to me, and you cannot have her."

Dragon I just realized the similarities between Bam (bottomless pit that can absorb almost any power and still have plenty of room for more) and Iruma (bottomless pit that can eat a truly incredible amount of food and was described as having bottomless greed compared to the other 3 greats grandsons + the ring of gluttony), and like,,,,,,,,, they’re both also candidates for high-powered leadership positions that they aren’t interested in, both unwittingly inspired unceasing devotion from their first best friends in a single day (and reciprocate it!), both got adopted by a strong old dude who also had/was candidate for the leadership position they as they are, and their goals aren’t the leadership position but to stay by the people they love and I think!!!! They would be good friends!!!!

first my mind was like, "let's throw the misfit class in the tower" and then i was like wait hold on do i really want to put these children through such misery (.......................maybe...... or maybe i just wanna watch the misfits break every single one of the tower's rules and regulations?)

but then i thought of the reverse which led me down the rabbit hole of "does is bam human?" and "considering the tower's many many non-human people and it's general alien nature, would the tower 'humans' count as 'humans' in the irumaverse?" it would be funny either:

"all 'non-demons' and thus everyone from the tower in this hypothetical scenario would count as 'humans' with regards to how they would interact with the demon world (and i guess how they'd smell towards demons??); thus prompting several very very serious debates among demons about whether Rak Wraithraiser is human. He is Not Amused but Khun sure as hell is and Wangnan is constantly adding fuel to the fire of what the "'human"" world is like. Iruma is screaming internally so much because he knows the truth about the (his) human world but he's not allowed to ask questions about whatever hell these guys are from without raising suspicions towards him being a human."

i know iruma and bam would be good buddies but clara and rak would also get along so well though. clara's special gift of bribery would work wonders on getting mr. rak to her side and his regular non-chibi form counts as a bonus jungle gym for her!!

Az does his gushing about iruma and khun's like "if i get into a Serious Conversation about undying loyalty (and my own personal experience with All of That) with a kid I'll Die" so he just sits there nodding his head like "yep yep" wondering if there's any advice he could offer him. She was born in the late 80s, she was raised in a bear/human clan, her mother was japanese and her father was american due to an arranged marriage. She had alot of friends and was genuinely a sweet girl, however one day her clan was attacked and burnt down when she was 10 years old, After running away, she had to live in a forest for 6 days, and living off of berrys and dangerous grapes. However one day she was found by a high elite japanese agent, who took her in and was raised her as a solider, however due to her trauma and pain, she became so angry that she became stronger and eventually took the role as the leader at only 23 years old. In-between those years she met a young girl named sakura akamatsu, a young girl who was being raised as an assassin by her grandfather. The two girls fell in love but due to the girls both having to become things that weren't their choice, they slowly stopped meeting each other, however they gave each other cute nicknames to remember each other like "skull chan" and "bear chan"

4 years after becoming leader, she hired a man who seemed to be obsessed with getting the job, the woman had no choice but to hire him as her assistant, he never uses his real name and only goes by "assistant kun" even going so far as to change it to his real name.

Imagine calling Law ‘Captain-kun’ by accident while helping Bepo with his costume...

“Y/n, I need you to help Shachi with the- are you listening to me?”

You were scrambling around the room gathering varying styles of fabric and materials in light and dark shades. You had noticed the captain of the Polar Tang walk in but you were far too occupied.

“Sorry, I’m in a bit of a rush to work on something for Bepo.” You passed him on the way to the door, absentmindedly pressing a feathered kiss to his cheek. “I’ll help Shachi later, Captain-kun.”

Dashing out as quick as possible, your eyes drew down to the items in your arms, mind wandering to the bear in dire need of your creative assistance.

Scissors, glue, red fabric, kiss…

You nearly bumped into Penguin and a few other crew members in the rush, throwing out your mental list. Rounding the corner, you entered the room where Bepo was waiting. His paws rubbing together nervously as he looked at the various costume items that he had gathered on the floor.

“I’m back. Don’t worry. We’ll patch something great for you to wear at the show.” You assured and added the items in your hand to the small pile. “There’s different kinds of fabric and a leather belt that Shachi wasn’t using.”

“Did the captain see you?” Bepo asked and you knew how he had been denied to attend at first by the stoic leader.

“He was there and saying something about-”

Captain-kun…

You gasped and dropped a roll of ribbon you had been holding, fingers flying to your lips. Heartbeat drumming against your chest, your whole body suddenly felt uncomfortably warm.

How had you been so distracted? He was your temporary Captain and you treated him like a lover who had done this dance many times.

“I called him… I can’t believe I said it out loud.” You buried your face in your hands. How did you let this happen? You were due back to the Thousand Sunny in a few days. You shouldn’t have let these feelings grow.

Bepo’s eyes widened when he pieced it together - you were in love with Trafalgar Law.

“Captain!” He squealed and sped out of the room quicker than your mind could register.

Shit.

Collecting yourself, you rushed out and chased after the damn bear. If he spoke to Law, it would make things so much worse.

Zipping through the corridors, you ran back to the spare room barging through the doors and starling a few other crew members. They looked at you with puzzled expressions before returning to their business. Scanning the area, you saw no trace of fluffy ears or a spotted hat and your stomach dropped.

Where were they? Retracing your steps to outside the door, you turned to the left and stared at an empty corridor.

The library. Law’s usual haunt.

You took off in that direction desperately hoping that you weren’t too late. It was another series of twists and turns aboard the ship and you’d be sure to mention it to the Heart Pirate Captain on your way out.

When you made the last turn, it was a beeline to the library and as you neared, there was a black, white and orange object drawing close.

Bepo. He seemed frightened and was… running away?

Whatever he was up to didn’t matter. As you started to get a clearer sight, you stretched your arms forward with every intention to latch on to the furball when - very suddenly - you were enveloped in a blue light.

AKAASHI KEIJI is usually calm and collected. He always think three steps ahead and has several backup plans in case something goes wrong. Some would say he's stoic, almost emotionless—until he became a dad.

Although he's busy with several projects at hand, he never failed to pay attention to his family. He's a dedicated husband and a doting father to his son. To strengthen his bond with his child, he requested to have a dedicated day for them to bond.

However, during one of those days, something inevitable happened: your son's first vaccination.

It was an event you wanted to spend with them, but you were also stuck at your workplace where heaps of tasks awaits you.

“will he be fine? i've read several articles online and also asked some of my colleagues about their children's first vaccination, but i don't think it prepared me enough...”

the doctor and her assistant smiled as they prepare the materials they'll use for this session. the doctor explained the process and gave him an idea of what might happen afterwards.

keiji nodded his head while listening attentively to her response. his son, atsuki, has always been a calm child just like his dad—and sometimes, it makes you and akaashi worry about him.

“ah... i can't look...” he whispered while keeping atsuki's right arm from flailing around. “i'm so nervous...”

atsuki tried to turn his head towards the doctor, but her assistant was quick to keep his head in place.

“he'll be fine,” the doctor responded calmly while applying holding the syringe close to your son's arm. she insert the needle in his chubby arm while the assistant hands over a plaster towards the doctor.

the deafening silence was ended when atsuki began to wail. akaashi kissed the top of his head while soothing his back.

“it's okay...”

akaashi himself couldn't stop his own tears from falling after hearing him wail in pain. “it's for your own good, atsu-kun,” he whispered while peperring the top of your son's hair with featherlight kisses.

“one vaccine done.”

akaashi looked at the doctor, terrified. his slowly calming heart began to race. “there's more?!”

“it's the last one... today, at least.”

he was horrified.

needless to say, you both agreed to make time whenever your son's getting vaccinated. because neither of you has to go through all that alone.

The wonderful Truck-kun granted your wish of getting isekai’d by sending you straight to the One Piece world! How wonderful! 

Except, you quite literally fell on top of Buggy just as he was trying to argue his case to Crocodile and Mihawk. 

Now, they have no clue what the hell just happened but Mihawk already agrees with whatever that just was. 

Buggy is about to scream over the fact you just fell on top of him and Crocodile is wondering how you managed to get here. 

Crocodile assumes a Devil Fruit, Mihawk assumes you snuck in, and Buggy assumes you’re the devil. 

It takes a moment for things to settle down as they demand you tell them what you’re doing here. You explain that well… uh… you’re not really from here. 

Crocodile almost plans to kill you right away because he doesn’t have time for stupidity like that, but you show whatever you have on hand to prove otherwise. 

They’re all immediately entranced by your phone, but they have something they’re also interested in too. 

Crocodile: Your credit cards and money. When you explain how a credit/debit card functions he’s amazed. Tempted to start a bank and overhaul the current financial system. Also loves the excel spreadsheets. The fact this “machine” will calculate all of this for you and put it in a neat list… well… mark him down as interested. 

Buggy: The shiny games on your phone that are colorful and fun. The fact he can “Google” anything and look up new material. 

Mihawk: EReaders and, this will sound hilarious, but text messaging. He doesn’t care to talk, but he thinks that sending texts would be so much more effective and efficient than having to haul himself around the sea or, god forbid, answer a phone call. 

Okay so you did manage to prove you’re not from this world (or that perhaps you were an alien freak but that’s okay) and Crocodile and Mihawk are pretty much entertained. That’s it. You can go. Bother someone else. 

Buggy however, holds you close and pouts. “Can we keep them? Can we keep them pleeeeeeeease???” He begs as if you’re a little puppy. 

Crocodile is against this but Mihawk shrugs and agrees. Whatever. This could be interesting. 

Buggy still doesn’t understand you’re not some circus animal and rambles about what he should have you wear and perform for his show while Crocodile cuts him off. 

Frankly, if you’re telling the truth and have nowhere else to go, you gotta earn your keep. Crocodile just makes a new position for you that shouldn’t be too hard after you said you have 0 combat skills or training. 

You’re basically just their assistant and do menial work that no one else really wants to do. For now at least. 

Buggy is actually… kinda happy you’re so nice to him? He’s used to either worship from his crewmates or abuse from Mihawk and Crocodile, so you quickly become his new favorite person. He’s pretty shocked you’re as nice as you are considering how crappy this situation is, but he’s grateful. Softens up to you right away and loves having your attention. 

Buggy likes to do silly tricks to make you laugh whenever he can, mostly as a way to be the “flashiest” guy in your eyes. He really doesn’t like when others try to take you or away or interrupt his time with you, since he’s a brat and finds you entertaining. 

Crocodile and Mihawk are tougher nuts to crack. Neither of them trust people, but they find you interesting, even though you are incredibly weak compared to others. 

Crocodile always tries to see what you may/may not know about him since you made a few offhand comments that were a bit too… knowledgeable… so he often tries to get you to slip up more or confess to something. He hopes to see if you know something useful that can be used (but also deep down is afraid you know too much). 

Mihawk on the other hand finds you amusing. Plenty of things are similar to your world, but it’s quite clear you’re not used to many aspects of this one. He forms a habit of just watching you or actively messing with you to see your reaction. It’s a bit funny to him, admittedly. 

Of the two, Mihawk is the first to somewhat let his guard down and be a bit protective of you. He figures even if you were hypothetically “dangerous”, he could easily kill you so what does he care? You do your job, you’re entertaining, and you don’t give him a headache. 

Crocodile only lets up when you “prove” time and time again that you are reliable and not trying to go after them or sabotage them. He does think it’s a bit weird you’re eager to help them, considering what they do and what you know, but hey, who is he to complain? 

To sum it up: Crocodile cares the most about you being isekai’d, Buggy cares the least (except when it comes to his perception. He wonders if he’s also got a following there).

Buggy likes showing off his new tricks or discussing silly hypotheticals with you. 

Crocodile likes when your eyes grow wide whenever he drops an expensive item on your desk as a token of his appreciation to you. 

Mihawk likes when you talk him to normally and share deep discussions with him.

Was this sensation typical? He couldn't say, but what he did know was that he cherished extended cuddles with you following a taxing day at work.

Scaramouche

He detests displays of affection, particularly physical touch. The initial time you hugged him, he forcefully pushed you away and even stepped on your face. Touching him was out of the question; the notion of closeness to anyone disturbed him. Nevertheless, despite his strong negative response, a small part deep within him secretly yearned for your touch, though admitting it was out of the question.

Wanderer

Your persistent craving for physical affection was evident. A sarcastic comment, a lighthearted flick on your forehead, and perhaps, against his better judgment, he would give in to your wish and allow you to hug him. Given all the trouble you went through to assist him and the genuine care he felt, he ultimately gave in.
