The Atacama Giant, Atacama Desert, Chile,

It is the largest prehistoric anthropomorphic figure in the world with a length of 119 metres, and was made between 1000-1400 CE.

The figure was an early astronomical calendar used for predicting the weather.

My adventures continue up to the north of Chile to the Atacama desert!

I’m in San Pedro de Atacama, it’s very dry and dusty here but I’ve gotten to see some really cool things. There’s lots of cool things to see here, lots of rocks which I like to climb up. I even got to feel sand between my toes as I ran down a sand dune that was fun.

Volcan Licancabur, Atacama, Chile, 2002.

In my life I have been privileged to see a great deal of the world. A few places have haunted me since I saw them, and this is one of those places. Shot from an elevation of about 4,000m, Licancabur is 5,916m at its summit on the intensely arid eastern edge of the Atacama. Perhaps it is the absence of oxygen at that altitude, but I was truly overwhelmed by this ethereal scene.
