When he pulled away from her, he could really take in her shock and horror at him making his move.

“Oh my god, I’m so sorry,” Zuko stuttered, shame coiling low in his belly. “I thought...I was...and you were....anyway, I’m gonna go.” He moved to stand, intending to disappear into the wilderness, possibly forever. He was effectively immobilized by Mai climbing into his lap, cradling his face between her hands, and very enthusiastically kissing him back.

When Zuko’s brain stopped short-circuiting, he returned the kiss, unable to fully believe that he hadn’t just ruined everything. One of his hands went to the back of her neck, pulling her down into him. Her mouth opened, and he could taste the sweet wine she had been drinking. Her thumb brushed against the edge of his scar and he flinched. She paused, then snatched her hand away from his face.

“Oh, sorry,” she breathed. “Does it hurt?”

Zuko didn’t know how to say that nobody he was with ever touched his face. They skirted their hands around the scar, as though touching it would spread something dirty to them. He hadn’t realized how much he had missed that simple act of intimacy until Mai had carelessly, eagerly given it to him.

“No,” he said, and he took her hand in his and pressed it against his burned cheek. “It doesn’t hurt.” She smiled, and Zuko knew that he was smiling back. He also knew that he was a big dumb idiot that was going to get his heart broken because he was already halfway to being in love with her.

stuff about the taz atla au:

Taako and Lup are the last surviving air nomads (and by extension, elves). Lup is the Avatar. I established Taako as an airbender but I think it could go either way; if he's a nonbender, he's still got the high-dex rogue-y vibes of an airbender for any fighting.

Barry is a waterbender from the Southern Water Tribe, and the one who finds the twins. He's extremely unnaturally gifted at bloodbending, but shit at most other waterbending until they find a master. (He can bloodbend when it's not the full moon, but usually only to shift someone's balance, shove a limb, etc. Can be very handy when used right, though!)

Lup's hardest element is water. She has the instinct to directly blast stuff, which pushes against the give-and-take nature of waterbending. Once she gets it she likes making huge, scary, ocean-like waves. She's progressively faster at learning earthbending and, of course, firebending comes easiest & becomes a favorite.

Lucretia is also water tribe, probably in the North, though I would love for her to be friends with Barry somehow. She may not be a bender, but she's for sure attuned to spirits, especially the moon. Possibly the whole North Pole spirit imbalance is because of some well-intentioned thing she does while they're trying to repel the fire nation.

Prince Kravitz is trying to capture the Avatar but the Avatar's brother keeps flirting with him and it's very confusing. I don't know if I want to make the Raven Queen be the Firelord but if she's anyone she might be Ursa.

Kravitz is accompanied by Davenport (tell me captain "haven't we earned a little wrath" davenport isn't a firebender), a family member or close advisor who has been secretly a traitor/spy for like a decade. He's mostly coming along to keep his own eye on the Avatar and make sure she doesn't get captured or killed. White Lotus member.

Merle is a swamp waterbender with plantbending and, to everyone's shock in a dire moment, healing powers. He was a good friend of Lup's 100 years ago. Also White Lotus.

Magnus is an earthbender, Julia is a Kyoshi warrior. "Why isn't Magnus the token nonbender" well you see this whole thing is an elaborate AU of that one stretch of SC where Taako learned fighting and Magnus learned wizarding (joke)

Magnus is desperate to interact with spirits but is not attuned to them at all. He's excited to meet Lup because she is obviously the bridge to him getting to pet spirit dogs. Might have a pet dog or bear fusion variant.

can we hear more about JNRZ Patrols please

JNRZ Patrols is gonna be a a bit of a plot device in JNRZ AU, that's mostly just gonna give me a chance to write fun little one offs and a way to give team JNRZ more of their own agency as Huntsman in Training.

The set up for JNRZ Patrols is that the main characters realize that there's seems to be a discrepancy in variety of missions handed out between Huntsmen in Training and Specialist Cadets. While the SC get escort missions, liaisons with local law enforcements, participate weapons experiments etc. etc. The only real missions the HiT get are "Go outside and kill some stuff while keeping a tally." This leads to Jaune asking his team "Why don't we just go and ask people if they need help with anything?"

So then JNRZ Patrols is born, and it creates a whole bunch of fun opportunities for side stories and quick adventures that lets me explore the civilian side of Atlas.

Like what if some of the local kids requested Team JNRZ to go investigate that mysterious old house on the hill to prove that it isn't haunted.

Or a local Huntsman is looking for new sparring partners to keep his skills fresh, but it turns out the guy is ninety years old and way past prime, and his grandkids encourage JNRZ to take the L.

Or maybe a local high schooler told his bully that he was bringing a Huntress to prom and would be a laughing stock if he showed up stag.

Fun cute slice of life stuff like that that doesn't have to involve big villainous conspiracies. When it's actually introduced into the story, I plan on making JNRZ Patrols it's own collection of shorts on Fanfiction.net

The Future of the LIS franchise

Now I know its way too early to think of the fourth (technically 3rd because TC was never stated to be LIS 3) installment of LIS but I just wanted to share where I would like the series to go. (I did make a similar post about this before, but that was ages ago so I’ll just make a new one!)

1. Elemental powers PLEASE. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, having a protagonist(s) that can control the four elements would make for a KILLER game. If done right, and considering how many people love ATLA/LOK, I think the game would do incredibly well! I also think its time to move away from powers of the mind to more physical powers (although I know mindfulness definitely plays a part in controlling the elements!)

2. There was a rumor over on Reddit about a story set in Vancouver involving skinwalkers. Yes. YES. All of my yesses. DO IT. PLEASE. Native American characters FTW. Have the villain be a Wendigo.

3. Max and Chloe. While I personally would be OK with not seeing them again (that doesn’t mean I don’t miss my girls!) I know how much they mean to other fans (although a lot are very entitled...) so just put them out of their misery and make another game with them in it. But this time, have Chloe be the one that has to save Max.

4. Father/daughter duo. I’m BEGGING you. For the love of GOD stop making all of the alive father figures/guy characters douchebags! It’s getting old! Give us more bitchy girl characters PLEASE! Equality people! (I realize that there are good male characters in LIS, but not a lot compared to how many are jerks! I just want to see a loving and very much alive father...)

5. A canon divergent/AU  story involving Chloe that takes place after BTS but before LIS. I’ve always been interested in the idea of seeing Chloe find a way out of Arcadia without Max’s help. I don’t how or who would be involved but I would definitely like to see it.

6. An AU where its Max and Rachel looking for Chloe.

7. Remember the postcard from California that Rachel sends to Chloe? Let’s see a story where Chloe actually went with her on that vacation!

8. Story that takes place after SC and how Max manages without Chloe. Meeting another girl with blue hair is a must!

9. I still think a story where the protag has the power to talk to animals would be cool. The gift of gab!

10. Thwarting another natural disaster PLEASE! Either that or someone’s death! I LOVE race against the clock stories! Basically take the first game but turn it up a notch!

11. Neil Newbon. We need to get him into an LIS game. I would lose my collective shit.

12. Solipsism. The concept/theory that you are only real thing that exists and everything else is just a figment of your imagination. Exploring this in a game would be terrifying.

13. The Stone Tape Theory. Solving a mystery based on traumatic events/memories recorded on certain objects. It would definitely make for an interesting story.

14. Last but certainly not least (also inspired by a Reddit post that I agree with wholeheartedly) a full-blown horror story set in the LIS universe! Now I’m not talking about just your run-of-the mill serial killer I’m talking like monsters and shit! Take the supernatural that’s already a part of this universe and use it to scare the shit out of us.

Zuko had no idea what was making him so brave, but he was willing to let it carry him to the bitter end. He set his drink down on the table.

“Mhmm?” She didn’t look away from the TV, where Paul Hollywood was telling a poor baker that she had overworked her bread dough.

“Mai.”

No response this time, and now the metal straw sticking out of her wine glass was between her lips.

“Mai.”

“Zuko, for the love of God, I’m right here, what—” She finally turned towards him and, before he lost his nerve, he surged forward to kiss her. He allowed himself to savor her warmth against him, his eyes fluttering shut.

EPILOGUE

July 10, 1922: Charleston, SC

Two years, four days, and…5 hours, since Audrey Cade left Erik in Wakanda. She never heard from him again, and after that first year she stopped waiting. Well as much as she could. That first year was…a bit of a frenzy. She convinced the US government to commission her to remap that Francis Marion National Forest in Awendaw, and she spent half a year searching for that tree.

Audrey mapped over 200,000 acres of vast expansive green searching for a baobab that shouldn’t have been there. It took her six long months to find it within the maze of slender trunked trees, and when she did Audrey lost her breath. Where there was once a strong wide tree, stood only a stump. It was withered and wilted, rotting from the inside and curled in on itself.

Audrey had held out hope for a while that Erik didn’t do it, that he didn’t destroy Wakanda. But she hadn’t heard from him, or Shuri, or even Ti for that matter and seeing the entrance to Wakanda shriveled and dying… She cried for hours that day, gut wrenching sobs pulled from her aching heart. Audrey felt as though an entire part of her had been scooped out and left bare and raw.

To be fair, Junie let Audrey wallow for a while. Too long if you asked Junie, but she could hardly get Audrey to talk about it. In all honesty Junie had never been one for feelings, her husband took over when the kids were crying but this is Audrey. Her little sister, her partner in crime, the smartest person she’d ever met.

Junie will never forget what Audrey said at Oakies, that first night back.

“I found it Junie. I found home.”

Audrey did her best to tell Junie all she could stomach.

“Erik is—was a prince. Lost royalty.”

Junie lost it of course, couldn’t understand why Audrey left Erik in the first place. Audrey tried to explain, she really did, but it seemed that the difficulty of the situation was between her and Erik.

“They hurt him and I couldn’t—he wouldn’t listen Junie. I’m afraid I’ve—”

All Junie could do in the end was hold her friend. She took her home and fed her sweets, and when that didn’t work she forced her back on a schedule. The shop reopened two months after Audrey returned, and she would go running with Junie every morning before the shop doors creaked open to the public.

Mrs. Floyd from the County Clerk’s office was the first to click her heels through the door, on the third day she opened. A few of her grandchildren tumbling in alongside her. Audrey softened at the babbling children, setting them up with paper and crayons at a smaller desk she reserved for these occasions.

“You let Mr. Stevens know I am keeping his place nice and clean sweetheart. And when you get a chance, come on down to the library and read to the kids, they’ve been missing you while you were away.” Audrey jolted at the mention of Erik. Junie hadn’t said his name since she had spilled everything, and to hear about him when he wasn’t there…hurt.

“Oh—okay Mrs. Floyd.” A deep inhale. “Is there anything I can get for you now?” Mrs. Floyd went on to describe the commission she needed and Audrey did her best to focus. That’s how it’s been since she reopened.  

Audrey used some of the money she had gotten from Shuri to make some upgrades to the shop as well. She’d found the best mechanic around to rig her a lightbox like the one in Wakanda, and a carpenter to get her the smoothest table money could buy. It still didn’t compare to vibranium, but her commissions shot through the roof after.

She had three sketchbooks full of Wakanda and Jabariland. The ornate palace halls, shining solar paneled automobiles, and the vast fields of Wakanda colored the pages. When she flicked through them now…It all seemed like a dream. She still reads the letter she got from Ti all those years ago. Ran her fingers over the splotchy ink of the map and uneven pulp of the paper.

Some days, bad days, she thought about what life would have been like if she had stayed. We he have burned her with all of Wakanda. Would he have reconsidered? Would she have ever returned home if he did? Erik was so set on his ambitions, Audrey was never truly sure if he had enough time for her. Sometimes she wasn’t sure she would have time for him. After she found Wakanda, her thoughts opened up to finding other lost lands. Discovering worlds people hadn’t seen in centuries somehow seemed possible after finding Wakanda.

The door to Cade’s Atlas swung open interrupting her musings, and all Audrey heard were the pitter patter of little feet.

“Bincinke!”

“Ti?” Audrey could barely speak. Before her was a girl, skinny and sprouting and covered in furs from the mountains, hopping from foot to foot.

“You remember! I knew you would! Baba wasn’t sure but I knew it!” Audrey’s heart was full to bursting when Ti released a triumphant smile. Babbling on and on.

“Uncle said I could run ahead if I bring you this!” She waved a wooden box around, nearly dropping it before she set it down and leapt into Audrey’s arms.

“I missed you bincinke.” Audrey squeezed Ti tight. Please don’t let this be a dream.

“I missed you too princess.” Another squeeze and Ti jumped out of her arms, shoving the box into Audrey’s shaking hands.

Ti gestured for Audrey to open it, so she did. It took her a moment to find the silk pull tab on the sleek box and the tab pulled the lid off slowly. The inside of the box was laced with soft, shining fabric. Silver, like vibranium. Inside was a beer bottle. Long necked and clear, filled with glittering blue liquid, the label read: Wakandan Brews, Est. 1921. There were a few Wakandan words at the bottom, Audrey only catching the words ‘home’ and ‘family’ before it fell from her hands back into the box.

She was so busy staring at the bold lettering that she barely heard the door clink open. Soft boots squeaked on the wooden floorboards, and long denim pants covered the man up to his waist. A soft cotton shirt hugged his shoulders and Audrey stopped breathing when she got to his handsome, brown face.

“Hey babydoll.”

“E—Erik?” Audrey’s breath left her in a rush. Wakanda lives.

C’est pourtant le terme qui conviendrait le mieux aux protagonistes de Bus Stop (Arrêt d’autobus) – à commencer par l’émouvante Cherie, chanteuse à la petite semaine dans un cabaret peu reluisant. Est-ce donc pour tenir ce genre de rôle que Marilyn fait son grand come-back à Hollywood, après le long bras de fer qui l’a opposée à la puissante 20th Century Fox ? C’est peu de dire que la star prend tout le monde au dépourvu en choisissant d’interpréter un personnage qui n’est ni plus ni moins qu’une Marilyn de superette. Quel besoin d’introspection l’a ainsi poussée à livrer avec ce film une critique, aussi sévère que mal déguisée, de ses propres rêves de gloire ? Toute sa vie, Marilyn sera partagée entre son désir de devenir la plus grande actrice du cinéma américain, et celui de se consacrer au contraire à une paisible vie de famille, auprès de Joe Di Maggio, puis d’Arthur Miller. S’il ne lui valut pas même une nomination aux Oscars, le rôle de Cherie reste aujourd’hui encore considéré comme l’une des meilleures prestations de Marilyn, dans un film qui marquait en outre la prise d’indépendance de la star vis-à-vis des pontes d’Hollywood. Le 25 février 1956, c’est une Marilyn vêtue d’une sage robe noire qui descend de l’avion à Los Angeles. À un journaliste qui lui demande si sa tenue témoigne d’une nouvelle personnalité, elle répond avec un sourire espiègle : « Je suis toujours la même, c’est la robe qui a changé ». Pourtant, il s’agit bien pour Marilyn d’un nouveau départ. L’énorme succès artistique et commercial de The Seven year itch (Sept ans de réflexion) a fait, l’année précédente, l’effet d’un déclic. Reprochant à la Fox d’engranger grâce à elle des sommes folles sans pour autant la rémunérer davantage, la star refuse de tourner à nouveau pour le studio, malgré ce que prévoit son contrat. Revenue à New-York, Marilyn en profite pour suivre les cours de Lee Strasberg au sein du prestigieux Actors Studio, et décide parallèlement de créer, avec son ami le photographe Milton Greene, sa propre société, la Marilyn Monroe Productions.  Soucieuse de récupérer sa vedette la plus rentable, la Fox finit par céder, et propose à Marilyn un contrat qui, outre une confortable rémunération, lui permettra de travailler aussi pour des studios concurrents et d’avoir un droit de regard sur les scénarios et les réalisateurs de ses films. Bus stop est un film qui témoigne du regain d’intérêt de Hollywood pour Broadway au cours des années 50. La comédie originale avait été montée sur scène en 1955, assurant la célébrité à son auteur, William Inge ; elle constituait le dernier volet d’une trilogie dont les deux premiers avaient été adaptés à l’écran sous les titres Come Back, Little Sheba (Reviens, petite Sheba, 1952) et Picnic (1955). Bus stop, comme Picnic, fut tourné sous la direction d’un metteur en scène de théâtre connu, Joshua Logan, et adapté par George Axelrod, écrivain de Broadway qui s’était fait un nom à Hollywood en 1955 avec l’adaptation cinématographique de sa propre pièce, The Seven Year Itch. Excepté Marilyn Monroe, Logan fit appel à des acteurs de Broadway. Don Murray avait fait ses débuts sur les planches dans « The Skin of our teeth » de Thorton Wilder. C’est avec Bus stop qu’il entama sa carrière cinématographique, carrière qui ne tint pas les promesses qu’on attendait d’elle après ce film. Arthur O’Connell, acteur de théâtre, et épisodiquement de cinéma, devint bientôt un des meilleurs acteurs de composition, très recherché par Hollywood. Betty Field et Eileen Heckart se partageaient entre les scènes de Broadway et les studios californiens. Hope Lange, qui devait épouser Don Murray au cours du tournage, y fit ses débuts dans un rôle d’ingénue. Quand on le revoit aujourd’hui, on perçoit d’emblée tout ce que le film doit au théâtre, en bien comme en mal. Si le film bénéficie en effet de la présence et du métier des plus remarquables professionnels de la scène, sa mise en scène ne parvient pas cependant à échapper aux conventions du théâtre malgré les efforts méritoires du scénariste, Axelrod, pour “aérer” l’intrigue originale dont le cadre se limitait pour les scènes les plus animée après l’épisode du rodéo, au restaurant de Grace. Dans le film, par contre, les séquences d’action se situent à Phoenix dans le bar sordide du Dragon bleu et, bien Sûr au cours du rodéo. Pour cette partie du film, la Fox n’eut guère de mérite puisqu’elle profita de l’organisation d’un véritable rodéo auquel assistaient près de 10 000 personnes. Quant au snack de Grace, il fut “copié” d’un restoroute de Sun Valley qui deviendra après le succès du film, l’attraction touristique de cette petite ville de l’Idaho. En dépit de cette volonté de réalisme, toutes les scènes qui se déroulent en intérieurs semblent relever d’une esthétique théâtrale et comme rétrécies par les limites du décor. Après la fin du tournage de The Seven year itch, l’actrice avait quitté Hollywood pour un séjour de quatorze mois à New York où elle étudia à l’Actors Studio. Après cette bouderie qui fit beaucoup jaser, elle revint à Hollywood accompagnée de Paula Strasberg, la femme du directeur de l’Actors Studio, Lee Strasberg, qui la conseilla tout au long du tournage de Bus stop. Si l’on ne sait ce que Logan put penser d’une telle présence, d’autres metteurs en scène avec lesquels Marilyn Monroe travailla ne firent pas mystère de leur aversion pour les maîtres et conseillers dont s’entourait l’actrice.

Que son jeu soit le résultat de la direction de Joshua Logan, des conseils de Paula Strasberg ou tout simplement de l’instinct de Marilyn, peu importe : ce qui compte c’est le résultat. Son talent était-il inné ou fruit d’une longue préparation ? Le débat reste ouvert. Quoi qu’il en soit, on peut difficilement douter des dons comiques de l’actrice. Dans « That Old Black Magic », le numéro qu’elle chante au bar du Dragon bleu, elle est d’un comique irrésistible. Impavide, Cherie débite sa chanson d’une voix fluette sans tenir compte de l’indifférence du public. L’infortunée chanteuse donne le meilleur d’elle-même, tout en cherchant du pied le bouton du projecteur qui l’inondera de lumière rouge. Le courage solitaire de la tendre Cherie rappelle, de façon implicite, les espoirs et les désillusions des propres débuts de Marilyn. Pour Marilyn, le projet Bus stop constitue un véritable challenge. Certes, son pouvoir est désormais tel qu’elle peut faire plier un studio aussi puissant que la Fox. Mais la star veut plus : lassée de n’être considérée que comme une belle blonde bourrée de sex-appeal, elle veut à présent être reconnue comme une véritable comédienne. C’est la raison pour laquelle elle se lance avec passion dans la préparation du personnage de Chérie, la chanteuse de cabaret aux rêves mille fois plus grands que son pauvre talent. Oublié, le glamour de ses films précédents: dans Arrêt d’autobus, Marilyn parle avec l’accent de l’Oklahoma, ses cheveux n’ont plus l’éclat du platine, et son visage est pâle à faire peur. C’est Milton Greene qui a mis au point cet étonnant maquillage, que les représentants de la Fox ne cesseront de déplorer tout au long du tournage ! Quant aux tenues de son personnage, Marilyn décide de se les procurer parmi les vieux costumes du studio : elle y déniche entre autres une vieille guêpière, et troue elle-même une paire de résilles. Engagée comme coach, Paula Strasberg, l’épouse de Lee, fait répéter Marilyn d’arrache-pied. Nul doute que cette volonté de prouver son talent a fortement contribué à l’angoisse connue par Marilyn au cours du tournage, qui a lieu successivement en extérieurs à Reno; puis en studio à Los Angeles. L’actrice connaît souvent des problèmes de textes, et disparaît parfois du plateau. Déstabilisée en outre par sa liaison secrète avec Arthur Miller, qui n’est pas encore divorcé, elle abuse de somnifères, qui l’empêchent d’arriver à l’heure sur le plateau, au point que Logan décidera de filmer le matin les scènes dans lesquelles elle n’apparaît pas. Marilyn, qui a attrapé une mauvaise bronchite lors du tournage des scènes dans la neige, sera même hospitalisée pendant une semaine. Elle tombera aussi d’une passerelle de deux mètres de hauteur… Quant à ses relations avec l’équipe, elles ne sont guère chaleureuses, et sont même franchement tendues avec Don Murray. Alors qu’elle le blesse réellement lors de la scène où elle le frappe avec sa traîne à sequins, Marilyn refuse catégoriquement de s’excuser.  Même son amitié avec Milton se détériore au cours du tournage, les deux associés rivalisant d’arrogance… C’est donc avec un énorme soulagement que Marilyn voit arriver, en mai, la fin des prises de vues. Mais lorsque le film sort, le 31 août 1956, son rêve le plus cher se réalise: quasiment unanime, la presse salue sa magnifique performance d’actrice. L’histoire

Bo Decker (Don Murray), cow-boy du Montana doté d’une belle prestance mais d’un caractère impulsif et fruste, a pris l’autobus pour se rendre au rodéo de Phoenix, en compagnie de Virgil (Arthur O’Connell), son ami et son conseiller. Virgil a décidé que l’initiation de Bo aux mystères du sexe aurait lieu à Phoenix. Au bar du Dragon bleu, Bo est fasciné par Cherie (Marilyn Monroe), une jolie, mais bien maladroite chanteuse, qui vient d’ailleurs d’essayer de séduire Virgil. Bo oblige le turbulent public de cowboys à faire silence pour permettre à la jeune femme d’exécuter son pitoyable numéro. Touchée d’un tel intérêt, Cherie est aussi frappée par l’origine française – comme c’est son cas – du nom de Bo (Beauregard), mais elle est atterrée quand le jeune homme décide de l’épouser. Le lendemain, Bo persiste dans ses projets. Cherie s’affole quand il la jette à bas du lit pour l’obliger à assister au rodéo avant d’annoncer publiquement leurs fiançailles.  Le soir même, elle quitte le bar et, avec la complicité de Virgil, se rend à la gare des cars. Bo l’y retrouve et la prend au lasso et l’oblige à monter avec lui dans le car pour le Montana. En chemin, bloqués par la neige, les passagers trouvent refuge dans le snack de Grace (Betty Field) où ils se rendent compte de l’étrange situation de Bo et de Cherie. Carl (Robert Bray), le robuste chauffeur du car, s’interpose et finit par battre Bo. Humilié, ce dernier renonce à Cherie mais ce nouveau comportement soumis et plein de douceur suscite un revirement chez la jeune femme.
