Derek Shepherd → he would realize he loved you when he found you on an on call room, crying because of a patient’s diagnosis. You had gotten too close to that case, too involved even though he had warned you not to. To see you in such pain over someone else’s future, your compassion and the amount of care you showed to all of your patients, it made him see just how much he himself cared about you. How much he wanted to be the one by your side to comfort you when you needed.

“It’s so unfair, Derek. So unfair” you tried to contain your sobs, as he sat by your side at the floor, leaning his back against the bed. He had locked the door behind him, knowing you wouldn’t want anyone to see you like that. “She’s had cancer four times. Her children won’t come to visit. Her husband died years ago. She’s going to die all alone and there’s nothing I can do about it”

“Come here” he passed one of his arms around your shoulders and pulled you close, until you laid your head on his shoulder and he could hug you tightly. “She’s not going to be alone. You and I, we’ll be here for her” he kissed the top of your head, coming to terms with his feelings at last. “You and I” he mumbled, sighting.

Mark Sloan → he would realize he loved you when after a long shift, he saw you drinking at Joe’s with your closest friends. From across the bar he heard you laugh and tell jokes, having real fun. That with the talent you showed at the hospital everyday would make him see that you were an amazing person, someone he would really like to be together with. Someone he could love deeply.

“Is this seat taken?” he asked while approaching the table you were on, having just gotten the courage to do so, as your friends had just left together. He couldn’t help but find beautiful the surprised look on your face.

You were colleagues working on the same case and the fight would happen at the hospital, arguing in the corridors loudly enough for the nurses and other doctors around to have to come near and calm you both down. To see your determination, your fierceness in fighting him for what you thought was right, made him see how much of a strong person you were and it awakened things in him.

“You’re such a child! Did you know that, Alex Karev?” you shout at him, your fierce look locked in his eyes as you did so.

“And you're stupid, seems like we’re even” he had a smile on his lips and his hands on his waist, and the tone on his voice made your roll your eyes and turn around to leave. You could feel the eyes of all the members of the staff on you both. “So you’re walking away now? That’s mature” he spoke up.

“When you decide to see reason, page me” you said, without turning around. Your confidence made him actually laugh.

Jackson Avery → he would realize he was in love with you when you stood up to him during a patient’s case, where he was making a mistake on purpose in a diagnosis, to test the interns and no one else in your class had the nerve to tell him so. You faced him in front of everyone else, with politeness and yet, confidence. He was so admired and proud of your attitude, that he later went to compliment you personally in private.

“It was a good thing, what you did back there” he said with a little smile on his lips, his hands inside the pockets of his jacket, since he had ended his shift and was about to leave. “None of the others dared to say anything, but you did”

“I had to” you looked down at your feet, embarrassed for receiving such a compliment from an attending. “The others wouldn’t say anything, so I couldn’t let the patient at risk just because you’re my boss”

“And that is why you’re scrubbing in with me tomorrow” he said, the smile on his lips getting bigger because of your words.

“Really? Thank you, doctor Avery!” you smiled brightly at him, finally looking him in the eye, letting your embarrassment aside.

“Perhaps after the surgery, I could take you to dinner” the plastic surgeon continued, and your eyes widened at that. Jackson Avery couldn’t just have asked you out. He chuckled by your expression, licking his lips for a brief moment. “I’ll see you tomorrow, (Y/N)” he turned around, and then walked away.

Owen Hunt → he would realize he had feelings for you that went beyond friendship when he saw you speaking up to a patient that had been disrespecting you. He would notice your educated arguing, the patience and your responsibility and that would make him respect you even more. Afterwards, he would see how you had been hurt by the patients words though, and the pain it caused him would make him notice just how much and strongly he really liked you.

“It was quite rough in there” he got close to you in the corridor, leaning his back against the wall as yourself did. “You did good, in defending yourself”

“I had to” you sighted, arms crossed over your chest. “I’m doing my job just like everyone else here, I don’t deserve to be treated like that when all I’m doing is trying to help”

“Of course you didn’t deserve that. Some people they’re just…” Owen sighted, shrugging slightly.

“Stupid” you completed.

Atticus Lincoln → he would realize how he felt about you as you two were scrubbing into a long surgery together, washing your hands side by side and you would admit to be going through a rough time in your personal life, outside the hospital. The fact that you trusted him enough to tell him that, made him happy and proud of himself. He loved the idea of being close to you, of making you feel good and that’s what he intended to do.

“If you want, we could do something together tonight” he suggested, looking at you with warmth in his bright eyes. “Maybe watch a game, order some food or grab some drinks if you prefer”

You smiled at him, continuing to wash your hands. “I would love that, Link. Any of those things would be really great”

“Great” he replied, averting his eyes from yours as he could feel his cheeks burning a little. The fact that you would love those things with him made his day. “That’s really great”

As you two walked into the OR, all he wanted was the end of that shift so that he could spend time with you.

“Thank you, thank you” he passed his arms around you and hugged you tightly. You could feel his breath on your neck as you tightly hugged him back. He silently promised himself that after that craziness ended, he would tell you how he felt.

Nathan Riggs → he would realize he had feelings for you when he would overhear you saying to Jackson that you felt slightly jealous of Meredith because of him. Because he had been asking her out. It shocked him, to know you felt that way. He had always thought you considered him like nothing more than a friend. But to know that you in fact wanted to go out with him, to know that you had interest, it changed everything.

“I overheard you speaking with Jackson” he said, when you entered the on call room he had just paged you to. Your eyes widened and you wanted to run away and he continued to speak. “You said you were jealous of Meredith”

“You weren’t supposed to hear that” you sighted heavily, embarrassment filling your whole being.

"Good morning, y/n," Link whispers beside you, his hand reaching out to brush a strand of your hair behind your ear.

He smiles, and for a moment, the alarm clock blaring beside you seems irrelevant, because he looks so incredible in the dim light peeking through the blinds.

"We have work," you groan, pulling the pillow from under your head and slapping it against his face. He laughs.

"We could call in sick." You shake your head and stand up, pulling the sheet around your body, and walk toward the dresser.

"We were sick last week and the week before. Not believable anymore." Link groans dramatically and flops back on the bed, and you throw a shirt at him. "Get dressed. You have surgery, and Nico's plenty pissed at me for the last time you were late."

"Do I have to?" He pouts his lip out like a begging child and pulls the shirt over his head. You walk to the closet, pulling out a sweater and pairing it with jeans, buttoning them as Link walks up behind you and wraps his arms around your waist. His lips press against your ear, and you both laugh. "There's no way I can convince you to stay home?"

"Link," you turn around to face him, your hands cupping his face and your thumb lightly rubbing against his cheek. "If we leave now, we can stop for coffee on the way."

"Deal." He drops his hands and grabs yours, tugging you to the doorway. You grab your bag from the couch and chase him down the stairs of the apartment complex and to his car, where he holds the door open. "M'lady," he gestures, grinning as you get inside.

"So chivalrous," you mutter as he rounds the car and hops into the driver's seat, reversing the car and placing his hand over yours on the console, your voices both lightly humming along to the songs on the radio as you pass through the drive-through of the coffee shop, where Link recites your order by heart.

"So, I'll find you at lunch?" His hand lingers in yours for a moment in the hallway, and he's smiling as you both tug away from each other and your arms stretch farther.

"Sure." Link drops your hand and blows a kiss before running down the hallway as he usually does, the people around him staring in some mix of horror and shock as he passes.

"Y/n!" Amelia calls out, dropping Richard's hand and throwing her arms around you. "Are we still on for tonight?"

"You're sure it's not awkward? With Link?"

"Y/n, Link, and I are old history," she shakes her head. "I'm with Richard now, and I'm happier than I've ever been."

"I know, it's just, weird?"

"When have our lives ever been normal?" She waves a quick goodbye to Richard, who smiles at her like you've never seen him smile before. "Besides. Going on double dates always makes things less awkward. Link and Richard can watch whatever sports game is on, and you and I don't have to pretend to be interested in it. It's fantastic."

"Okay, okay. You've convinced me."

"Yay!" Amelia nearly squeals, clapping her hands together. "I'm so excited! I'll see you later!" She runs off, and your pager buzzes.

"Yeah, well, I'm interested in trauma," you mutter, stirring the straw in your water around. "So, I think we'll see each other a lot."

"You know, when I was an intern," Richard leaned forward, "we weren't allowed to pick a specialty in our first year."

"Rude."

"Please stop," Link shakes in disgust, and his hand drops away from your back. "New topic. Find your new neuro prodigy yet?"

"Here, take my coat," Richard speaks quietly, dropping his jacket around his girlfriend's shoulders. She smiles as it hangs over her figure.

"Thank you," she whispers, and their fingers intertwine as the group walks down the sidewalk, Link's hand in yours. "So, y/n, how are you not dead from the intern workload?"

"It helps when you've got an attending who likes you and is nicer on you," you smile and shove Link lightly. "No, but in all honestly, Link helps me study, he helps me with patients, I have no idea what I'd do without him." You can see Link beaming proudly out of the corner of your eye, and he drops your hand to wrap his arm around your waist.

"We've just gotta get Owen to like you so you can stick here for a fellowship," he raises his eyebrows at you.

"I've got plenty of time until then, babe; I'm sure we'll figure it out when the time comes. Besides, who knows if you'll even still be at Grey-Sloan?" He shrugs.

"You never know," Amelia interjects. "Richard been there for how long, exactly?"

"The number doesn't matter. But, my whole life."

"Well, this is where we leave you," Link turned to the street beside them. "We should do this again sometime." You smile and lean your head against his shoulder, waving goodbye to Amelia and Richard as they walk away and speak drawn-out goodbyes.

"Dinner with three of your bosses, one of whom you're dating, another who is your boyfriend's ex, and the last, who is his ex's new boyfriend, but also old enough to be our Dad? Why would that be awkward?" You chuckle, and Link grins. He wraps his arm around your waist tighter and guides you down the street. "But seriously, I'm glad you're getting along with everyone at the hospital."

"Certainly get along with you." He pulls his keys from his pocket.

"You know, I was thinking."

"Move in with me." You raised your eyebrows at him.

You sat at the cool metal table from where you and the rest of the girls were being quarantined under. 

There were two men sitting in front of you. They said they were your friends, but after you’ve been through on the island. All of the conspiracies you went through...there’s no way that they’re actually FBI agents.

“So you and Leah Rilke are dating?” Agent Faber asks and you just nod, “How did you two meet?” he asks again.

You took a bite of the sushi that they brought you after you requested it, “I was in the foster care system for a long time in Minnesota. I went around lot, but somehow someway I was in California. That’s where I met my adoptive parents and Leah.” 

“Your adoptive parents were originally only supposed to foster you right?” they ask and you nod, “Seems like you made quite the impression.”

“I guess you could say that.” 

“Kids this is Y/N, your new foster sibling.” Mrs. Baylee says, introducing me to the rest of their kids, “This is Atticus, Lincoln, and Elizabeth.”

I just wave at the three kids. Atticus seemed around my age, Lincoln was slightly younger, and Elizabeth looked like she could be in third grade or something of the sort. 

“You’ll be staying in Elizabeth’s room and going to school with them tomorrow. Atticus here is in the same grade as you so he’ll help you manage.” Mr. Baylee explains and you nod softly. 

He laughs to himself, “Don’t talk much, do ya?” 

“Hudson!” Mrs. Baylee exclaims and you just laugh.

“Don’t worry it’s completely okay. I get that a lot.” you say, talking for the first time. 

“Well we’re happy to have you and I hope to change that not talking thing.” Mr. Baylee says with a smile. 

You look at the two men, “And you met Leah at school that day?” 

Again just one nod. 

“Alright well this is where your homeroom is. I don’t know if you need anything, but I’m here. Just give me a shout.” Atticus says and I nod, “I’ll see you around.” 

He walks away down the hall towards the rest of his friends. You enter your classroom and see a bunch of hipster girls wearing cool clothes. And here you were wearing a t-shirt and ripped jeans.

“Crazy, right?” a voice says to you and you turn your head to find the sound, “It’s like required that the girls here have to be hipster posting on their Instagram 24/7.” 

You were met with a beautiful brunette with bright blue eyes, “It makes me feel boring.” 

“But the best girls out there are boring and beautiful.” she smiles at you coyly, “I’m Leah,” she says, extending her hand out to you.

“Y/N.” 

“But there was more to your story than what meets the eye. You had an older sister, that you were separated from in the foster system.” Agent Faber says and you nod. 

“How did the two of you meet again?” Agent Young asks.

You scratch the back of your head, “My foster parents said that we had to get a signature from my birth mom to officially adopt me. They asked a lady to help us, I think her name was Gretchen, to find my birth mom. Gretchen said that she was in Minnesota and that I have an older sister.” 

“But you already knew that you had an older sister?” Agent Young questions and you nod.

“I was 7 when we were separated, I couldn’t forget the girl who always protected me.” 

You sat at the cafeteria table in the rehab center your mom was in with your foster parents. Twiddling your fingers that was in your lap. Another girl with brunette hair came in with what looked like to be her mom. And then another middle aged lady came in. 

All of us sitting at the table. No one willing to speak to each other. 

The middle aged lady spoke up, “Hi girls.” 

Me and the other girl who looked a little older than me stared at each other, “Toni?” was all you could whisper.

“You remember?” she asks and you nod.

“How could I forget my big sister?” you reply. 

The both of you stand up crashing into each other’s arms in a hug. She put her hair in my hand and tighten my arms around her. 

“I’ve missed you kiddo.” Toni whispers.

“I’ve missed you too.”

You don’t know why they were asking you all these questions. They would be more focused on the island than what happened before. So you decided to tell them the truth, but once it comes to the island...you’re gonna hide as much as you possibly can.

“Were you dating Leah before or after this?” he asks.

“Shortly after.” you reply simply.

The two of you were laying on the rough floor at the campsite you and your friends decided to go to. 

Your foster parents let you go. After months of being with them they’ve grown quite fond of you. They really brought you into their home with open arms and even Hudson loosened you up and got you talking to them more. And the kids they’ve been nothing but sweet to you, but no one can replace your actual sister.

You turned your head to look at the beautiful brunette next to you. To find that she was already staring at you. 

“Whatcha looking at?” you ask her softly.

“You.” she replies, “You’re so beautiful.” 

Leah’s hand reaches out towards you. She cups your cheek softly and you lean into the soft touch of her hand. Her beautiful blue eyes staring at you in awe as they slowly drift down to look at your lips. 

She does it once more, asking permission to kiss you. You nod subtly and the two of you slowly start to lean in, like two magnets being completely drawn to one another. 

The two of you finally connect your lips moving in perfect harmony. And it felt like coming home. Kissing her felt like coming home after a long trip, finally getting to sleep in your own bed for the first time. In your whole life full of uncertainty, you finally felt at home. With Leah.

“Be my girlfriend?” you blurt out after the two of you pull apart.

Leah chuckles softly, brushing a strand of hair away from your face, “Take me on a date first and we’ll go from there. Deal?”

“Deal.” you say with a wide smile on your face before leaning back in to kiss her again.

Agent Young starts reading your file as you take yet another bite of the sushi they sent you. You twiddle your hands in your lap looking around the small interrogation room.

“So how did you two find out about the trip?” Agent Fader asks, crossing his arms and leaning back in his chair.

“My parents thought it would be cool if me and Toni went on a trip together. Since we’ve been separated for so long. Toni told them about Martha’s trip that her mom signed her up for.” you explain.

Agent Fader cuts you off, before you could continue, “Where was Toni staying at the time?” he asks.

“Martha’s parents were fostering her. She was the lady who came with her when we went to visit our birth mom,” you answer, “Anyway, Martha’s mom told my parents all about the trip. She signed Toni up,  they signed me up, and eventually Leah convinced her parents to sign her up so we could spend the summer together.” 

“But it didn’t go as planned.” Agent Young chimes in.

You nod with a tight-lipped smile, “Yeah it didn't.” 

The two of you were in the backseat of your parents minivan. Your siblings were up in the middle seat, while you and Leah squished in the back. 

“Why am I nervous? Should I be nervous?” Leah rambles.

You told Toni all about Leah and being the protective sister she is, she did not react well.

 Saying things like: “If I see her be rude to you in anyway, I will not hesitate to throw my piss at her.” 

You grab Leah’s hand intertwining your fingers together, before kissing her hand softly, “Lee, baby, breathe.” you say softly, “She’s gonna realize how happy you make me and everything will be okay.” 

She lets out a deep breath, closing her eyes a little, “Thank you.” she whispers and you nod in response, kissing her cheek softly. 

The two of you reach the airport. Your parents helping you guys get your luggage out of the trunk. They hug you tightly, kissing the top of your head.

“Be safe please.” your mom says to you, squeezing you a little tighter.

You nod, “I will, I promise.”

“Leah, look after this one. She’s a handful. If she ever gets too much just feed her to the sharks.” your dad jokes, giving her a hug.

“Oh I will not hesitate to do so Mr. Baylee.” she replies, returning his hug.

You stare at the two of them with an incredulous look on your face. Both of them laugh at your face before giving each other a high five. Your dad walks up to you and wraps his arms around you, ruffling your hair in the process.

“I’ll see you in a month, don’t be too much trouble.” he says and you tighten the hug.

“I’ll see you later.” 

You give each of your siblings a hug, ruffling the boys hair which causes them to let out a groan in response. 

You and Leah make your way to the gate of the private jet. Where Toni was already sitting in her basketball tank top. 

“Oh God.” Leah mumbles. 

“You got this!” you say to her, kissing her cheek to ease the tension.

You catch Toni’s eyes, running up to her to give her a big hug. When the two of you pull away she looks at Leah, extending her hand out to her.

“Toni.” she says simply. 

Leah shakes her hand and I could see her swallow back her nervousness, “Leah.” 

“And you must be Martha!” you exclaim at the girl who was sat next to Toni’s seat.

She stands up to give you a small hug, “Hi Y/N! It’s nice to meet you!” 

You and Leah take a seat across from your sister and her best friend. Waiting for the chance to be able to board the plane. 

“She scares me.” Leah murmurs under her breath, low enough for only you to hear.

“So the plane crashes, then what happened?” Agent Fader asks.

“I almost died.” 

“Y/N!” Leah screams as she starts swimming back to shore, “Y/N!!” she yells out again.

Searching frantically for where you were. The last thing Leah remembers is holding onto you for dear life before passing out. The rest of it is a big blur. 

“Leah!” Toni yells, running towards her, limping slightly.

“Have you seen Y/N?!” the two girls yell at the same time.

“Shit.” Leah says.

“Fuck.” Toni says at the exact same time. 

The two run along the shore desperate to find your body. Until they see Dot doing CPR on a girl, the two instantly make their way towards her. Only to see Jeanette passed out and not you.

“Have you seen Y/N?” Leah asks, out of breath.

Dot shakes her head, “No sorry.” 

“Help! We need help over here!” Rachel yells. 

She was carrying a limp body in her arms running towards the rest of the group. Leah and Toni take one look at each other before taking off towards Rachel, meeting her halfway. Only to see you lying in her arms passed out.

Rachel lays you down on the floor, “She was drowning. I went in and I pulled her out.” 

Toni immediately starts doing CPR, a little too fast. But she tries to get her posture under her control to save you. 

“C’mon baby. Wake up please.” Leah pleads, tears filling her eyes.

Toni starts murmuring under her breath something incoherent. But she keeps mumbling it over and over again. Leah notices drops falling onto your lifeless face, she leans down a little more to see Toni crying.

“Toni let me take over.” the blue eyed girl says.

Toni just shakes her head, “No I’m fine!” she yells.

But she just goes back to murmuring under her breath. Martha and Shelby come up and everyone’s staring at the sight in front of them.

“Y/N I just got you back!” Toni finally screams, “You can’t die on me!” 

“Please. You’re my home Y/N. I need you.” Leah whispers.

After endless amounts of CPR from Toni. The rest of the girls take turns when exhaustion starts to take over all of them. It’s weird that everyone here knows CPR. 

Dot was about to give up when you start coughing up water. Leah immediately cups your cheek in her hand as you continue coughing. 

“Oh thank God!” Shelby exclaims.

Toni looks at you with a worried look on her face. The ocean water making your hair wet as it plasters onto your face, “Are you okay?” 

“I’m okay.” you say with a nod.

She lets out a relieved breath before hitting your arm hard, “Ow what the fuck?!” you yell at your sister.

“You can’t scare me like that.” she whispers, tears filling into her eyes.

She takes you into a hug, rubbing her back softly. You turn to look at your girlfriend who still had tears dripping down her face. You take her face in your hands, wiping away the tears.

“When I told your dad I’d get rid of you I was just kidding.” she says with a small chuckle.

You match her laugh, smiling at her softly. You kiss her forehead softly, “You can’t get rid of me that easily, Rilke.” 

“All of the girls knew CPR. If just one of them didn’t, I don’t think I’d be here right now.” you state bluntly.

“What happens next?” Agent Young asks, looking at you intrigued.

"Happy end of quarantine!" Owen chuckled as you and him stood on the other side of the door.

"Maybe we should wait one more day. Just to be sure." Teddy suggested, Owen sighed, glancing at you as you drummed your fingers on the door.

"Listen, Leo and Allison are fine, everyone's testing negative, your patients tested negative, nobody is testing positive." Owen argued, leaving Teddy to sigh.

"How are you feeling?" You enquired, tilting your head to the side in thought.

"Got my energy back, no fever, no cough. I mean, I did sneeze, maybe once." Teddy explained, hearing you chuckle.

"Leo insisted Owen bring you a celebration meal... specifically in a dinosaur mug too. Oh, and Link got approved to foster Luna! So you have to come out and celebrate all of this, okay?" You chuckled, feeling Teddy smile through the door.

"Okay, here we go." Teddy announced, opening the door to reveal you and Owen standing there.

"I missed your faces... god, you're beautiful." Teddy admitted, her hands going to your cheeks as you smiled, biting your lip.

"And that's my cue to go, so you two can...catch up." Owen replied, putting the dinosaur mug of mac and cheese on the bookcase as Teddy tugged you into the room, pulling you into a kiss.

Teddy smiled as she headed towards Luna's room, spotting you, Jo and Link standing over Luna's crib. The zoo animal mobile hanging over the crib as you fiddled with something in your hands.

"Y/n, which ring do you think Amelia will like?" Link enquired, leaving you to falter.

"Uh, I don't know, but I think proposing with three rings will overwhelm her." You admitted, ignoring Jo's eyes as she stared at you.

It was only after Link hurried out that Jo spoke.

"You're thinking about Teddy, aren't you?"

"Thinking about me?" Teddy smiled, approaching you from behind as you let out a shaky breath.

"Just remembering stuff." You replied, checking your phone for any messages.

You and Jo were sat on the floor with Allison as Leo opened a present from Amelia.

"It's a brain!" Leo grinned, Jo and you exchanging looks as Allison started to climb the couch.

"Yep, that one just definitely just from Aunt Amelia." Link chuckled, looking at you and Jo as Allison threw a piece of wrapping paper at Owen's head.

"Did you set it up?" You mouthed to Owen, smiling as he nodded.

"Oh, look it's snowing!"

"How is it only snowing in the back yard?" Teddy whispered, running her hand down your back as everyone walked outside.

"You got us snow for Christmas?" Teddy asked Owen, who just smiled at her before looking at you.

"I had help." He admitted, watching you pick up Allison so you and Jo could show her the snow as it fell.

"Merry Christmas everyone!"

Braces: well, Bailey is not going to forgive you for that

Teddy: the paperwork came through for the place

Braces: we have to pack our stuff up, again?

"You better give us a good price, the economy is trash and you're lucky we're even looking." Jo grumbled, looking at her phone whilst running her free hand over your head.

"Yeah, well, now that you two actually have some money, maybe you'll figure out how it all works." Jackson joked, leaving Jo to roll her eyes.

"I really hope you get a new joke. Welcome home Jo, Luna, Y/n, Allison and Teddy, you know when you all actually are on the video call at the same time." Jackson teased before hanging up.

"Welcome home, Luna." Jo smiled, looking down at her baby as she slept in her car seat.

"Teddy and Meredith are doing a double lung transplant. So I'm going to set up Luna's crib, and move everything into Allison's room, whilst you get to sit and enjoy your baby." You waved Jo off, heading over to where a load of boxes sat.

You were sat on the floor, now constructing something else for Luna's nursery as her crib was done.

Jo was the one who answered the door.

"Hi, welcome home, hi Ally!" Jo giggled, smiling as Teddy brought Allison over to you as she began to squirm, Teddy chuckling as she watched you put down what you were holding so you could hug her.

"Oh, Link. I'm so sorry." Jo apologised, holding Luna in her arms as Link appeared at the door with a dejected look.

"Do you have some place I can crash?" He enquired, looking around the penthouse that was originally Jackson's, but now home to the five of you.

"Yeah, come in..." Jo nodded, knowing that you had enough couches.

"Y/n, hey, babe, the apple slices are for Allison." Teddy chuckled as she spotted you eating something.

"Tell that to her!" You retorted, chuckling as Allison shoved another apple slice at your face.

"At least we're not outnumbered yet, two babies to three adults." Jo chuckled, not seeing how you spaced out for a moment, only breaking that daydream when Allison shoved the apple slice at your lips again.

"Thanks Ally!" You chuckled, looking up at your family.

Teddy was sat sipping a cup of coffee as Jo walked around, trying to feed Luna a bottle.

"I realise that I can't live out of a hotel forever, but at least we got somewhere with looking for houses. I'm still going to miss the bacon on the buffet. Ooh, and the Danishes." Teddy expressed as she, you and Tom stepped out of the elevator.

"Maybe it's the hormones, but just mentioning the word 'Danish'-"

"Do you want me to order you some for later?" You enquired, smiling as Teddy grinned at you.

"Hey!" Owen walked over with Leo, not really giving you or Tom a second look as he focussed on Teddy.

"Uh, Tom and I just realised that we're staying at the same hotel, and Y/n's apartment is a few blocks away." Teddy explained, sipping her drink.

"Wow, that's..." Owen began, glancing between Tom and Teddy as you checked your phone.

"Convenient." Tom finished, leaving Teddy to announce that she needed to check up on a patient from last night.

"What are you getting yourself into, Braces?" Jo whispered, pausing as she spotted the photo of Alex on the wall with all the photos of the past chiefs of surgery.

"What in god's name is that sound?" Webber exclaimed, the sound of bagpipes and drums echoing through the ER.

"Are those- why are we having a parade in the ambulance bay?" You enquired, appearing on Alex's left to make him jump.

"I don't know, but I think there's a broken wrist in bed three you could take a look at?" Alex asked, turning to look at you before watching the bagpipe players some more.

"Yeah, yeah, sure. Enjoy... whatever that is." you chuckled, gesturing to the band with a smirk.

"So, which one are you torchbearer, the one getting burned, or the one who doesn't see there's someone else holding a torch for you too? I'm done." Tom retorted, heading out of the OR as Teddy blinked in confusion.

"S/n, I need to know something." You paused, looking up from the computer to meet Koracick's eyes.

"What's the problem?"

"Do you have feelings for Altman?" Koracick asked, staring at you as you frowned, ignoring how much your stomach bubbled.

"She's having Hunt's baby." You deflected, frowning more as Koracick sighed and walked away.

"Doctor Koracick?" Your call went ignored as Tom walked down the corridor.

Arizona frowned as she spotted a text from you, a text you'd send hours ago.

She was about to reply when she spotted the green online circle had turned off and you were no longer online.

A frown crossed her face as she began to type out a reply.

A knock at the door interrupted your thoughts as you stood at the counter, reading over the ingredients for the third time in your head.

Padding over in socks to the door, you smiled softly as you realised it was Teddy.

"Hey."

"Hey, what's up?" You tilted your head to the side, leaning into the door in the process.

"I just wanted to get something off my chest, can I come in?" Teddy asked, biting her lip as you opened the door for her to come in.

Her eyes followed you as you returned to the counter, reading over the recipe again.

"I remembered what you said about co-parenting but having no romance there. Then I had a patient today who made me realise that some friendships are just friendships... Owen and I are just friends, I don't want to be with him romantically, because I have never been and will never be his first choice." Teddy began, letting out a breath as she walked over to stand on the other side of the counters.

"Where are you going with this, besides deciding you don't want to date Owen?" You asked, grimacing at how blunt you sounded.

"You, Y/n, have put me first ever since we met, and I realised that you are one of the reasons I stayed in Seattle, because I could have stayed in Germany and raised my baby girl there, but I saw you playing with those children on Christmas Eve, and Arizona told me about how you would talk to those orphaned newborns." Teddy stated, watching as you looked at her with wide eyes.

"How much as Arizona talked about me to you-"

"Enough that I want you in the delivery room with me and Owen." Teddy interjected, biting her lip as your jaw dropped for a moment.

"You know Hunt's going to hate that-"

"You're my closest friend here besides Owen, Y/n. We haven't known each other anywhere as long as I've known Owen, but I want you there, if you'll-"

"Yeah, yeah, I'll be there as long as you want me, Teddy. You're my friend too. Owen's your person, like Joey is my person, so I get it, but I'll be here if you need me." You smiled, taking her hand so she'd stop lightly hitting the worktop of the counter.

"Y/n? Y/n S/n? You want her? Torres' Ortho Goddess in training who I had to fight tooth and nail for to not run away to New York for a fellowship?" Bailey asked as she walked in the hospital with Teddy.

"I know, she's amazing, so supportive. Look, I didn't expect to find anyone whilst being 30 weeks pregnant, but she's kind and fun, a little bit chaotic too, plus her singing calmed down the baby - she plays guitar. How about you and Ben now that-"

Teddy and Bailey were cut off as a car came speeding into the ambulance bay, throwing a person out of the vehicle before speeding off again.

"Hey, Bailey, pinpoint pupils!"

"Yeah, get some narcan, a crash cart and some O2. I think we got an OD." Bailey instructed to the nurse coming out of the ER doors to see what had happened.

"ER 911, Mass OD?" You murmured as you stepped off the bus, jogging towards the hospital.

"What the hell happened? Are these all ODs?" You exclaimed as you ran over, spotting Warren taking someone in on a gurney.

"Triage situation - red tags to the ER - walking wounded to the clinic - thank you." The megaphone was choppy as you heard Hunt's voice, you waved at him before hurrying into the ER.

"Y/n! Nico's in the OR with Schmitt, I need you to take this patient into an OR and fix their leg." Link ordered, passing you the chart to glance over.

"Okay, let's go!" You murmured to yourself, ignoring how you felt Teddy and Jo watching you from different places of the room.

You were exiting the OR, having finished fixing the patient's leg when Jo appeared, tackling you into a tight hug.

"Whoah, hey, are you okay?" You murmured, wrapping one arm around Jo's waist whilst the other cradled the back of her head. Jo's arms tightened around you as you felt her let out a sob.

"Just wanted to make sure you were okay." She whispered into your shoulder, tensing as you shuffled. She only relaxed when she felt you kiss the crown of her head, smiling as you held her.

Neither of you saw Teddy's confusion as she stood down the corridor, watching the two of you.

Teddy, Link and Webber were all sat in a quiet ER, staring into space. Jo had gone to give Alex hot chocolate, leaving you to tell Link that the patient was in post-op, being monitored.

You paused as you caught Teddy watching, not really thinking as she looked away. Your stomach bubbled but the tiredness washed it out.

Luckily, there was a fresh bed in the hallway, leaving you to curl up on it.

When you woke up, someone had put a blanket over you, you just had no idea who.

You didn't expect to be invited to a party by Jackson. Nor did you expect Jo to try drag you out to find something nice to wear.

You and Jo had a rule, the two of you couldn't shop together for certain things. One of the things was underwear, another was vegetables.

Jackson had invited you because Catherine viewed you as important to the hospital, due to your New York connections, plus, only like 4% of ortho doctors were women.

"So, which pantsuit are you going with?" Jo had asked, but you just rolled your eyes and said the one that was your favourite colour.

Joey: so Alex's mom is in Seattle?

Braces: does Alex know?

Joey: I have no idea

"Oh, hey!" Teddy spotted Amelia and Owen from where you and her had been chatting in the corridor.

"Wow, the gang's all here then." Tom Koracick chuckled as he approached, leaving the five of you to exchange looks as Tom hit the doorbell.

"Hey, welcome, guys, welcome. Come on in, make yourselves at home." Jackson instructed as Tom said he would go to the bar to grab the drinks.

"Nothing for me, thanks!" Amelia shouted after Owen as he walked off.

A gasp caught Amelia and Teddy by surprise as they turned to look at you.

"What's-"

"He has a ping pong table!" You exclaimed, not seeing how Teddy smiled at your reaction, whilst Amelia raised an eyebrow.

"Baby daddy is really not happy about you two being close." Tom pointed out, leaving you to grimace as you realised Owen was glaring.

"Yeah, not his best moment... I don't understand why he doesn't like you, Y/n."

"Neither do I, besides you're not that mermaidy." Tom joked, leaving you to sigh and sip the fruit juice you'd ordered.

"But, in fairness, he and Amelia had to say goodbye to both their kids." Teddy admitted, leaving Tom to admit he would fake diarrhea if the two of you wanted to leave.

"Helen?" Jo whispered, looking around before giving Teddy an awkward smile.

"I think Jo and Alex lost Alex's mother." You whispered as Teddy pulled a face.

"I do hate this party." She admitted, leaving you to nod in agreement.

"On top of that, I think Owen still has feelings for Teddy... and I'm worried that Y/n does too. You should have seen how he reacted, especially since Teddy said she wants Y/n in the delivery room too."

"Teddy is always going to be in Owen's life. Baby or no baby. It was this way for Cristina. It's been this way your whole marriage. And your divorce. It's not gonna change. Just make peace with it." Meredith stated, leaving Amelia to take a sharp intake of breath.

"This isn't a love triangle, I thought it was a circle that kept going around and around, but Y/n's going to get her heart broken, just like mine. I'm definitely staying at your place tonight." Amelia stated, walking away to go find you.

"Y/n, I need to talk to you, about Teddy." Amelia pulled you away, leaving Tom to stay with Teddy.

"What's going on?"

"Owen still has feelings for Teddy, and it's only going to get stronger, and you are going to get your heart broken. The moment he sees her, holding his child, he is going to fall even more in love with her, Y/n. I don't want to see you get your heart broken because you're in love with Teddy too." Amelia warned, her hand going to your shoulder as you froze, stomach churning.

"In love with Teddy?" You murmured, looking across the room to spot Tom, Teddy and Owen talking.

"Yeah. Owen's in love with Teddy. This is an impossible situation, Y/n." Amelia replied, not realising that wasn't what you meant.

"Time's never on my side." You chuckled sadly, walking away.

"Y/n!" Amelia called out but you had already gone back over to Teddy.

"What if you go into labour and only S/n's there?" Owen asked as he walked over to Teddy.

"Y/n knows what to do-" Teddy began but Owen frowned.

"But I wouldn't be there. Only her. I wanna be there."

"I want you there, and I want Y/n there." Teddy stated, putting down the glass she was holding.

"You seriously want that, frat girl, in the delivery room? She's an idiot-" Owen retorted, offending Teddy.

"Y/n isn't a frat girl..." Teddy trailed off, glancing at where you were, leaning against the wall with a far away look in your eye.

"Owen, I think Y/n is great, okay? She's been nothing but kind and respectful, and I want her around." Teddy reaffirmed, hand going to her bump subconsciously.

"Teddy, where are you-" Owen's face fell into a glare as he realised Teddy was walking over to you.

"Can S/n not go one evening without causing crap-" Owen grumbled, but he was cut off as Jackson announced that Catherine had arrived.

"She isn't causing crap-"

"She's always causing crap, she's an idiot, she should have been gone intern year, she isn't reliable and I don't want her around our daughter!" Owen's voice was loud enough that the rest of the guests had gone quiet.

Tom was about to step in when you spoke.

"I'm going to go-"

"You seriously think you can be a good parent? You will never be a good parent because you never had them!" Owen shouted, loud enough that everyone looked at you. A sharp intake of breath from Jo had Alex looking worriedly at his wife.

Your limbs were heavy, yet you felt like someone had just thrown ice water over you. Everyone's voices were muffled, like your head was in a fish tank, but autopilot took over. You were already out the door before Jo could get to you, or Teddy could catch up.

The last glimpse of you that Amelia got was you walking out, tears streaming down your face.

Summary: You and Jo are engaged, but how do you tell the rest of your family? With the wedding planning and bachelorette parties? Life is getting chaotic...

"Your sisters are totally going to ask about a ring, aren't they?" Jo realised as she watched you stir breakfast.

"We're surgeons. Although that argument won't fly with Nancy or Kathleen... oh god, can we just do an instagram post, then send invites when we figure out how we even plan a wedding? and I'm going to have to call my mother beforehand... this might turn out like Amelia and Owen's wedding." You worried, staring down at the pan as it was heating up.

"Amelia's definitely going to be there, plus, I'm going to be there, of course. Your mom knows it's serious, we've been together for nearly four years... also Liz did ask to be invited when I spoke to her on the phone, so... you've got two sisters? Plus there's always Addison." Jo reassured you, standing up to wrap her arms around your waist as you stood at the hob.

"What about ring necklaces?" Jo asked, nipping your ear lobe as you hummed.

"Better than when my sister lost her ring once, uh, it was Kate, Kathleen, she swore me to secrecy though. She found it in the fridge, after she panicked for ages..." You chuckled, stirring the breakfast in the pan.

"How do you feel about ring shopping today? It's our day off?" Jo suggested, smiling into your neck as you moved to plate up the breakfast.

"Can we get boba?" You enquired, turning your head slightly to look at your fiancee.

"Yeah! Let's just not put the rings in the drinks, too much of a choking hazard." Jo chuckled, kissing your cheek as you passed her her plate.

"Darn, I'm being called in for a surgery with Mer." Jo groaned as the two of you had just finished having dinner in a cute little diner.

"How long is it? 'cause, if it's all night, I need to talk to Amelia, and give her the news... because she will never forgive me if she finds out by the instagram post." You explained, pecking Jo's lips as you both got in the car.

"I'll drop you off, it's a trauma case, so it'll be a while, babe." Jo explained, putting her seatbelt on as you clicked on yours.

"Hey, what are you doing here? Kids are asleep, and I was about to go to bed." Amelia explained, wearing her pyjamas as she opened the door to reveal you.

"Jo got called in for a trauma, she dropped me off, since she's going to take all night. So, you get a personal cuddle monster, if you want one?" You offered, raising your arms as Amelia smiled softly.

"Always."

Amelia let out a sigh as you curled up, your head resting on her chest. The two of you were cuddling like you did when you were both small and little you refused to sleep in your own bed.

She was half asleep when you mumbled your announcement.

"Jo proposed. I said yes."

Amelia's eyes opened widely, grasping out to hit the light switch, realisation of what Jo had been trying to ask when she rambled about you being great.

"Uh, how, how, uh, tell me how it went then?" Amelia poked you in the ribs so you'd giggle.

"Um, uh, it was late and she couldn't sleep and then we were cuddling and uh, it was like 1am and she asked..." You rambled, biting your lip to keep out details; Amelia's eyes widening meant she figured it out.

"Okay, okay, I get it, don't explain further, aha... my baby sister's engaged! Wait, was there a ring or-" Amelia enquired, covering your mouth so you wouldn't keep explaining about how Jo proposed.

You licked Amelia's hand so she would remove it so you could explain.

"We got ring necklaces today." You explained, reaching over to grab your phone as it charged on one of Amelia's bedside tables.

"My baby sister's engaged! Dibs on your bachelorette party!" Amelia declared, leaving you to splutter in shock. You hadn't even thought that far ahead.

Your foot tapped the floor rhythmically as you stared at your phone screen that you held in one hand. The other hand held the bar of the bunk bed, waiting for Jo to text and say she was there with the ring necklaces.

Your eyes widened when the door opened, revealing your fiancee rushing in with her bag.

"Hey, hey, I got them!" Jo squealed, revealing the packaging.

"Oh my god!" You whispered, standing up to pull Jo into a quick embrace.

"Can I?" You enquired, gesturing to helping Jo put her necklace on, giving her a soft smile as she turned and lifted her hair up.

You smiled more as Jo turned around, pecking you on the lips before offering you the same.

"You should page Amelia... if she thinks I'm paging her to an on-call room, she'll assume I meant to page you." Jo chuckled, humming as you wrapped your arm around her, paging your sister with the other.

"What's up-" Amelia cut herself off as she walked in, about to cover her eyes but the squeals that left yours and Jo's mouths had her second-guessing herself.

"Those are excited squeals, what's- oh my god!" Amelia grinned, spotting the necklaces the two of you were now wearing.

"Have you told mom?" Amelia enquired as the excitement died down, leaving you to pause.

"Uhhh, I'll call her now, then we have to post the insta and then I have a surgery to get to... which i totally didn't arrange specificially so I can avoid our sisters' phonecalls after the 'gram gets posted." You nervously chuckled, biting your lip as Amelia smirked and Jo playfully rolled her eyes at your antics.

"Doctor S/n, your older sisters have left voicemails for you." A technician announced as you and Maggie stood over the patient, open on the table.

"Keep sending all calls to voicemail, they've probably seen the announcement by now." You instructed, keeping your attention on the monitors as the patient began to go onto bypass.

"Announcement? Oh! The engagement, congratulations to you and Wilson by the way." Maggie realised, smiling under her mask as she looked up to meet your eyes momentarily.

"Thank you! Now, if only my biological sisters outside of Amelia and maybe Liz could say that, instead of whatever they've left on those voicemails..." You sighed, pausing as the vitals began to spike.

"How's the wedding planning going?" Link enquired as he found you and Jo sat in the attending's lounge, resting your faces on the table.

"Guests list." You grumbled, picking up your phone.

"Please tell me you're calling April Kepner." Jo asked, leaning over to kiss you as you nodded.

"Oh, Jo, by the way, I'm running your bachelorette party, since Amelia has Y/n's with Meredith and Maggie."

"Yay, but just you?" Jo raised an eyebrow as Link paused.

"Me, Jackson... and Schmitt."

Jo's face fell into confusion, "Schmitt, really?"

"Okay, so, April just wants our opinions on stuff and then she'll help arrange it all..." You explained after hanging up the phone.

"Thank god..." Jo whispered, leaning in to kiss you as Link slipped out the room to avoid explaining why Schmitt was helping organise Jo's bachelorette party.

"So, your bachelorette party..." Amelia grinned, hooking arms with you as she caught you at the vending machine.

"If there's strippers, I'm leaving." You stated as you opened the snack.

"Oh, god no, what do you take me for? Do you not know me at all? There will be no strippers... I can't say the same for Jo since I don't think Link has a clue what he's doing. Avery has taste right? Maybe he has a clue." Amelia rambled, chuckling as you snorted at her rambles, knowing well enough Jackson would not have a clue either.

"Are you looking forward to tonight?" Amelia enquired as she sat down at your table for lunch.

"What's tonight?" You raised an eyebrow, making a pathetic attempt to stab some of your salad onto your fork.

"Your bachelorette party? Come on, I organised it all, we're going to have so much fun at Mer's!"

You met Amelia's grin with bewildered expression, glancing across the room as you spotted Jo being hijacked by Link.

"Should I be worried?" You hesitated, meeting Jo's eyes from across the room before a piece of celery hit your cheek.

"About your party? Nope. I have designed it perfectly for us to have fun... your fiancee's party though? i have no idea what Link has planned." Amelia admitted, biting her lip as she looked over at Link.

"What exactly is going on between you and him anyway?" You raised an eyebrow, smirking as your sister froze up for a moment.

"Nothing that my baby sister needs to know-"

"You're screwing him." You realised, chuckling as Amelia's face melted into shock.

"How do you do that? Every time, you it out, yet I had no idea about you and Wilson-"

"There were many close calls over the years. Worse one was when you got jumped by Jo in the on-call room because she accidently paged you instead of me... of course you went and said I'd probably be into it because you were with Owen at the time, and you thought I was single." You chewed your lip as you explained how Amelia had almost found out about you and Jo earlier than that evening on the couch.

"How many is many?" Amelia squinted at you, leaving you to bit your lip.

"That was Wilson?" Amelia exclaimed, choking on her drink as you nervously chuckled.

"Wait, wait, your outfit is missing one key detail." Amelia stated as she presented you with the unicorn headband.

"Unicorns?" Your eyes lit up with hope as Amelia grinned childishly.

"To think Maggie and Mer thought unicorns wasn't the best idea." Amelia scoffed, leading you down the stairs with her hand on your back.

A laugh escaped your lips as you spotted the unicorn themed decor, cake and pinata in Meredith's living room.

"I'm sorry, is this a bachelorette party or a children's birthday party?" Meredith whispered to Maggie as she was passed a unicorn headband.

"This party is something Ellis could have had." Meredith added to her previous statement, pausing as Maggie gave her a look.

"Amelia said that she and Y/n didn't have the best childhoods, so this is Amelia making up for lost time. Plus, they both had a unicorn phase or something?" Maggie explained before she waved at you, noticing how you were looking at Meredith hesitantly.

"Smile, you're freaking her out." Maggie whispered to Meredith, who gave you a smile that alarmed both Maggie and Amelia at how large it was.

Jo sighed before sneaking on her phone, sending you a couple of quick messages before going back to sipping her drink.

You were sat eating a mouthful of cake when your phone buzzed in your pocket, smiling to yourself as you texted Jo back; slipping your phone into your pocket carefully as Amelia pulled you up to dance.

"Ugh, you guys planned a bachelor's party... with a freaking stripper... my fiancee got cake." Jo whined, about to text you back again when Link grabbed her phone.

"What are you looking at- Jo, you're supposed to be having fun-"

"Amelia got Y/n a unicorn cake!" Jo cut Link off, giving Link the puppy-dog eyes as he hesitated.

"You want to sneak into her bachelorette party, don't you?" Jackson figured it out, smiling slightly as Jo smirked.

"I'm doing it with or without you guys."

"Wha-what are you doing?" Amelia took your phone from your hand, glancing at the screen before grimacing, turning the screen off and putting the phone in her pocket.

"Hey! We weren't even doing anything dirty-"

"You two make me sick with how cute you are." Amelia replied, her eyes widening as she saw Maggie holding the pinata.

"No, don't hurt Lucky Charms!" Amelia yelped, running over to save the pinata.

"You named the pinata after cereal?" Meredith blinked in confusion, not understanding until Amelia explained that you and her were obsessed with Lucky Charms cereal during the unicorn phase.

"What is she doing here?" Mer whispered as she spotted Jo sneaking over to the remains of the unicorn cake.

"Wilson, are you lost?" Meredith enquired, raising an eyebrow as Jo had a mouthful of cake, gesturing to the plate of cake instead of answering.

Jo whined as Meredith tried to navigate her towards the exit, whining louder as she looked over Mer's shoulder, spotting you and Amelia trying to wrestle a unicorn pinata from Maggie.

"What is Mer doing? Who is that?" Maggie said, slightly too loudly as you and Amelia turned around to spot Jo.

"Oh, no!" Amelia exclaimed, trying to grab you and stop you from tackling your fiancee into a hug.

Amelia's grip on you faltered as you pouted, giving her the puppy eyes that had worked on Amelia since you had learned how to at 3 years old, when Amelia was 8.

"Hold up- wait, that's not how things were supposed to go." Amelia tried to persuade you but you were very close to climbing out her grip, so she let you go.

"They were apart for half a day." Maggie pointed out as she watched you and Jo tightly hugging and rolling around on the carpet.

"Yeah, I think they missed each other." Amelia admitted, picking up Lucky Charms the unicorn pinata as she spotted them on the floor.

"You think?" Meredith deadpanned, raising an eyebrow as she spotted Amelia with the pinata.

Amelia smiled to herself as she observed the light in both your eyes and Jo's, only pausing when she realised the door was wide open and it was letting the cold in.

"What the- you guys are here too?" Amelia realised as she went to shut the door, spotting Link, Jackson and Levi on the porch.

"We heard there was cake." Link nervously grinned, chuckling as Amelia rolled her eyes.

"Although, I hope that's not a metaphor for anything else." Levi admitted, pausing as Maggie stepped aside to reveal the leftover unicorn cake as Jo laughed, a dirty joke popping up in her head.

Your eyes widened as you realised a dirty joke was about to leave your fiancee's mouth, infront of Amelia. You were lucky that you'd put the plate of cake on the stair, grabbing a piece and shoving it in Jo's mouth to shut her up.

Only when Jo looked at you, about to whine about how you stopped her joke, did she almost choke on the mouthful she had, watching as you licked the icing from your fingers.

A barely heard groan left Jo's lips as you quirked an eyebrow, smirking until you spotted the look of disgust on Amelia's face, leaving you to laugh and lean back onto Jo.

"Oh god, it's the police-" Link cut Jo off by opening the door, revealing you in the doorway.

"I texted her and told her to come over." Link explained with an exasperated sigh as you ignored him in favour of making a beeline to Jo holding the Safe Haven baby.

"He had a really hard day."

"Yeah, and it just got even harder 'cause now he's been kidnapped." Link put his hands on his hips, pacing around as you rolled your eyes.

"I didn't kidnap him. I just didn't take him to the hospital right away. He wasn't ready." Jo began to talk in baby voice, leaving Link to make annoyed noises whilst a sigh left your lips.

"Technically kidnapping, so, I'm not going to say I told you so, but I told you so. And, I think you weren't ready, more than him. Now I get why Bailey was so bothered about me spending so much time in the NICU, you're near one baby and you imprinted." You retorted, running your hands down your face.

"I did not imprint. I just wanted him to have one cosy night before a social worker turns him into a pile of paperwork." Jo gasped as a knock at the door had you, Link and Jo jumping.

"Oh my god. It's the cops."

"Who is it?" Link shouted, leaving you to check your phone.

"It's Meredith!"

"Oh, it's Meredith, let her in!" Jo let out a sigh of relief.

"You're not Alex..."

"He's in Iowa with his mom." Jo explained as Meredith walked in with a bottle of wine.

"Jo stole a baby." Link stated as Jo asked him to get Meredith a glass for the wine.

"I did not steal a baby."

"Well, that's what I said when I stole a baby." Meredith stated, sitting on the other side of Jo on the couch.

"Why are people stealing babies?" Link asked, looking at you as you shrugged.

"Oh no, multiple traumas. We should go back to the hospital." Meredith announced, leaving Link to come up with a plan to sneak the baby into the nursery.

"Doctor Karev is a Safe Haven volunteer and she is taking the baby to the nursery, right, Doctor Karev?" Meredith explained as Amelia asked who the baby was.

"Yep. Here I go." Jo smiled, leaving you to sigh and follow before Bailey called you over to jump in instead.

"Everyone, gowned and gloved, and keep up." Bailey ordered as Webber and Hunt arrived to help.

"Taryn Helm, hemodynamically stable, tib-fib fracture, but complains of pain in the pelvis, so we need a pelvic x-ray, chest x-ray, F.A.S.T. exam, the works. Webber, Lincoln, Grey, S/n, go." Bailey ordered, leaving you to nod and glove up as the four of you headed into the trauma room.

Your eyes widened as Helm began to talk, under the influence of a whisky sedative and a little bit of fentanyl.

"Can I scrub in?"

"Sure." Link smiled, leaving you to chuckle as you began to prep Helm to go into the OR.

"He got the love of my life fired. Which is you. Surprise. I love you, Meredith Grey. And I know it's stupid and I should get over it, and I will if I ever meet anyone else. I'm starting to think I never will. I thought Y/n S/n was pretty. But she's dating Doctor Altman. I accidently interrupted them about to kiss. I'm embarrassed now, so I'm gonna go prep myself." Helm rambled, her eyes widening when she realised what she had said.

"Thank you for that, Helm. Thank you, we'll have Doctor S/n prep you, okay?" Meredith chuckled, turning to tell Schmitt to head back downstairs.

That was until Schmitt collapsed, grasping his chest.

"I do not miss that guy." Owen admitted as Tom walked out of the OR.

"Altman could do so much better." Hannah Brody added, not noticing how Owen frowned.

"Meaning?"

"Are you serious? Altman's a badass. She's smart and skilled and hot. Koracick's just like a creepy frat-house uncle." Hannah replied, leaving Jackson to interject.

"She has done better, Brody. She's with S/n."

"S/n? She's one of the good ones... I would know." Hannah admitted, leaving Owen and Jackson to raise eyebrows.

"You and S/n?"

"When I was an intern, we broke up because she didn't want to put my medical career at risk." Hannah explained, swearing under her breath when she realised she wasn't supposed to have told anyone that.

"Skin hooks, please."

"No, I'm just hoping she dropped the baby off and isn't still attaching to him. Helm needed a plate and screws, so that's what I'm doing." You replied, hearing Link whisper a 'fair enough'.

"She's hypotensive and tachycardic." You realised as the vitals machines began to set off alarms.

"Do you think Y/n's okay?" Teddy asked as she and Amelia began to go over the CCTV footage to find Parker.

"She wasn't in the bar. She came in with Meredith, Jo and Link... and a baby from Safe Haven."

"I mean, do you think she's happy? It was pointed out that we haven't been on a date yet." Teddy admitted, leaving Amelia to nod.

"Where would you go? If the two of you went on a date?"

"Talk to me." Bailey stated as she ran into the OR to help with Helm.

"We repaired her leg but her vitals just plummeted."

"She's hypotensive with a worsening base deficit." You added, Bailey asking if Helm's abdomen had been checked, in which it hadn't.

You let out a breath as you walked down the corridor, the injured residents were all out of the woods and you were technically still on your day-off.

You didn't expect a hand to reach out and pull you into an empty patient room.

"Whoah-hey!" You squeaked, hearing the door shut behind you as Teddy smiled.

"Hey."

"What's wrong? Is everyone okay?" You asked, eyes darting over Teddy's face to analyse her facial expression.

"No, I mean, yes everyone is okay, but I need to ask you something, or I want to... uh, I want to take you on a date, do you want to go out on a date?" Teddy asked, smiling as you grinned.

"I'd love to. When?" You murmured as you leaned into kiss Teddy.

"Coffee and now?" Teddy asked as the two of you broke apart from the kiss.

"That would be amazing." You smiled, tangling your fingers with Teddy's as the two of you went to change out of scrubs.

Teddy paused in her groaning, turning to spot you looking at her.

"Ugh." Teddy grumbled, resting her head back against the pillows, she was about to snap again, before she realised it was you brushing the baby hairs from her face.

"Good! So, her head is halfway out. Just one more gentle push on the next contraction."

"I have to push now."

"You wait or you tear." Carina threatened, leaving you to grimace.

"Yeah, please wait, the tearing isn't pretty, I had to help a girl give birth in one of my college classes..." You admitted, leaving Owen and Teddy to look at you in shock.

"A girl gave birth in one of your college classes?"

"You wanted a distraction, you get another fun fact about my life. A girl gave birth in one of my college classes, a few guys fainted and one person threw up, but she had a baby boy." You replied, wanting to shrug but Teddy was leaning on you.

"Teddy-"

"Y/n, I'm in love with you, Amelia told me everything, I know you love me too." Teddy stated, leaving you to freeze as Owen's face fell to shock.

"Amelia told you?" You whispered, trembling as Teddy turned her head to look at you.

"She did, she told me she told you to not fall in love with me, because you all thought I'd want Owen. I'm so sorry Owen, but I don't love you like that, I love Y/n... I want you both in my daughter's life, please." Teddy whispered, looking at you and then Owen.

The moment was swiftly moved onto another topic, that topic being the next contraction.

You were quick to slip away, standing a bit back so that Teddy and Owen could enjoy the newborn.

"What's her name?" Carina asked, watching the two before noticing how you were slipping away.

"Allison." Teddy and Owen said at once, a smile crossed your lips as you spoke.

"You two are going to be great parents."

"Where do you think you're going? She confessed she loves you and you're standing over there?" Carina pointed out, spotting you chewing your lip as you met Teddy's eyes.

You rambled, confusing Link even more as you were paged to the ER to look at a patient's injury.

"My patient is in love with someone else but her husband has a nose in his arm because he jumped infront of a bear for her!" Jo exclaimed as she found you at the vending machine.

"Uh... that sounds complicated." You raised an eyebrow, throwing the granola bars in your backpack as Jo frowned.

"Why are you stockpiling granola bars? Are you going to hibernate?" Jo asked, picking up one of the bars until she realised it was the flavour she hated.

"Teddy has the flu, Owen had Leo and Allison, so I'm doing a supply run. I know she's a Major and she's all military, cool as a cucumber, but-"

"You're a clingy little kitten when you're sick and now you're really worried about her." Jo realised, rolling her eyes as you grimaced at being called a kitten.

"I thought I grew out of being called kitten. Anyway, I'm going to head over to Teddy's now, I'll see you after you do that patient wash-out with Owen." You smiled, kissing Jo on the forehead before heading out.

"Braces. You don't think Alex has ran into some old girlfriend and left me, right?"

"He'd be an idiot to leave you, Joey." You sighed, almost walking into the door frame before you hurried out to drive over to Teddy's.

Leaving the supplies on the kitchen counter, you ran Teddy a bath and stayed outside the bathroom door as she laid in the water, checking over your phone as Amelia and Jo had messaged you.

"How are you feeling?" You asked after Teddy got out of the bath.

"Better. Thank you Y/n." Teddy smiled, keeping her distance as you nodded, your phone buzzing in your hand.

"Do you need anything else-"

"No, I'm okay, thank you." Teddy nodded, spotting the supplies on the counter as she persuaded you to head out.

"Thought you wanted the snacks." You admitted, carefully wrapping your arms around Amelia to hug her back.

The hugging only ended when the two of you heard Link's voice downstairs alongside Maggie's.

"I need to talk to him." Amelia stated, raising an eyebrow as you tried to help her as she headed towards the stairs.

"Y/n?" Link raised an eyebrow, leaving you to sigh and pull your backpack closer to you.

"I'm heading out, taking Joey out for waffles because her husband is scaring her by not answering her calls or texts." You announced, slipping past Maggie and Link as you left.

"What waffle are you getting?" Flipping the menu over in your fingers, you glanced up to spot Jo staring into space.

"He's still not answering, is he?" You asked, watching Jo blink back to reality and looking up to meet your eyes.

"What? Uh, no, he's not... anyway, what waffle are you thinking of getting?" Jo replied, raising an eyebrow as you reached over to point at her menu.

"I missed you." You simply stated, taking Jo back as she frowned momentarily.

"I missed you too." She admitted before the worker came over to see if the two of you knew how to order the food on the app.

Teddy paused in walking to the elevator as she spotted how you were staring out into the blizzard, arms folded and jaw clenched.

"What's unnerved you?" Teddy hummed as she walked over, standing next to you to look out into the blizzard for a moment.

"I don't like the cold, reminds me of my parents." You admitted, shivering slightly before you headed back towards the sick ER patients, whilst Teddy went up to the attending's lounge to get changed into scrubs and ready for shift.

"How'd you know I was out here?" Teddy asked as Tom walked over with two cups of some hot drink.

"I came down to the ER with cocoa, I was looking for S/n, but I saw you and figured Y/n would be nearby." Tom admitted, pausing as he spotted you and Jo huddled up on a bench in full-on coats, hats, scarfs and gloves.

"I'm worried that Owen is the father of Amelia's baby, which is crazy, right? I can't shake it, it's the first thing that went through my mind when I found out that Amelia was pregnant."

"Why do you think that is?" Tom asked, sipping the cup of cocoa he had.

"Because I'm worried it'll throw off our dynamic. Owen, Y/n and I co-parent Allison, then we help Owen with Leo too... another baby in the mix will really rock the boat, and Y/n doesn't sleep if she's looking after them on her own, she's terrified something will happen when she's asleep." Teddy rambled, staring off down the ambulance bay as Tom just nodded along.

"You love Y/n, Y/n loves you and she loves babies, she's just afraid that if something happens, you won't love her anymore." Tom pointed out, waving as Jo and you ran inside, shouting something about your patients.

Teddy: Are you on your way to your apartment?

Y/n: Yeah, I'm setting up to hibernate

Teddy: I'm on my way

"I think Owen is the father of Amelia's baby." Teddy began as you opened the door to your apartment to let her in.

"I don't really know what's going on, but from what I know, Amelia wants Link, regardless of the baby's biology-" You were cut off as Teddy's hands went to your waist, pulling you into a kiss.

"What's happening-" You murmured as Teddy moved to kiss your jawline.

"I want you. I love you, Y/n. And I'm not going to stop loving you." Teddy admitted, pulling you into another kiss.

The two of you were laying on the couch, naked bodies entwined with each other as your phone began to ring.

"Oh shit. I'm going to kill him." You growled as you read your messages.

"What is it? What's wrong?" Teddy murmured, pulling the blanket over you as you sat up.

"Joey called Alex's mom, he was never there, he was never in Iowa. He left Joey. He left her, Teddy!" You exclaimed, getting up to pull on your clothes.

"I'll drive you over, there's no way you're driving when you're this riled up." Teddy interjected, standing up with a small wobble.

"So, now you can feel your legs?" You sassed, grimacing as you realised now was not the time for sassy remarks.

It was Link who opened the door, you shoved past him as Jo launched herself at you, breaking down even more in your arms. Teddy and Link exchanged looks, as Teddy walked in the doorway, meeting your eyes as you gave her a pained expression.

Alex Karev had left your baby sister.

He broke her heart, so you now were allowed to break all 206 bones, just like you'd threatened when Jo and Alex first started dating.

Alex Karev broke your baby sister's heart.

"I mean, as it turns out, I am pregnant. With Owen's baby. And Owen and Amelia Shepherd are back together again, and Amelia's sisters have issues with me. Rightfully so. It's not, it's not undramatic, but um, Y/n S/n, she's been kind, so it's not like everyone hates me. And still, Doctor Bailey, I need a job. I really need a job. I need to be occupied with work-"

"I'm guessing S/n didn't mention that Alex Karev is the new chief of surgery-" Bailey interjected, leaving Teddy to pause and lean in to whisper.

"She mainly was grossed out about the state of his office-"

"You're going to need to say all of that again, to Alex Karev... maybe not the office part, tell S/n to tell him that, he might clean it up if she pesters him enough." Bailey explained, picking up her files to walk away.

"Morning Grey, S/n."

You waved at Link as you spotted him propped up against the wall, eating crisps.

"There's a trauma coming in." Meredith stated, looking out at the ambulance bay entrance.

"Yeah, that's why I'm here." Link smiled into his crisps.

"That's how you wait for a trauma?"

"I think I'm gonna go over there-"

"Hey, where's the rig?" Jo asked as she walked over, pulling her gloves on as you hopped from one foot to the other.

"It's not here yet."

"See, Jo and Y/n know how to wait for a trauma." Meredith pointed out, hearing the ambulance sirens approach.

"And now I stand up straight-"

"Nothing about me is straight." You retorted, jumping as fingers poked you in the back.

"Yeah, including your posture." Jo pointed out, chuckling as you stuck your tongue out at her.

"Altman's the tall blonde that that lady-loving ortho fellow hangs out with, right?" Tom Koracick asked, turning to Amelia.

"I am trying to focus, also, the lady-loving ortho fellow is called Y/n, she's basically my baby sister." Amelia stated as she began to look at the skeletal model of the spinal cord for Catherine Fox's tumour.

"What's the story there?" Tom enquired before Amelia gave him a look that told him to stop breaking her focus.

"Post-ops are done, Link. What'd I miss?" Nico asked as he walked in, nodding to you as you quirked an eyebrow.

"You tell me." Link gestured to the x-rays as you and Nico took a closer look.

"She's got a windswept pelvis."

"Windswept?" Jo repeated, frowning as she turned to Link.

"Combination, AP compression on one side, lateral compression on the other." You stated, leaving Link to nod as he pointed out more.

"You see the SI joint here and the sacral fracture there?"

"Are you at least going to put a binder on her first, she has a pelvic fracture?" Meredith asked, glancing at you but you bit your lip and followed Link and Nico up to the OR instead.

"What made you think Link and I would be a good match?" Meredith asked as she walked over to scrub in.

"Okay, listen, before I met Alex, Braces and Link were the best people I knew, and Alex would say the same thing about you, so..." Jo trailed off, turning to look at Meredith.

"How many units have we gone through?" Link asked as he removed lap pads from the patient.

"Eleven." You answered, glancing at Meredith as she spoke to Parker.

"Parker, just so you're clear, we would have gone through fewer units had we stabilised her in the ER."

"Retraction here, Y/n."

"On it."

"Who is she?" Tom Koracick whispered to Amelia as Jo walked in and started talking.

"She's a surgical fellow, studying the future of medicine... Y/n, hey!" Amelia waved as you walked in, nosying over Jo's shoulder.

"Am I dreaming, because she just walked in with a miracle, and she looks like a mermaid..." Tom whispered, leaving you to quirk an eyebrow at him.

"He thinks you look like a mermaid." you whispered into Jo's ear, smirking as Tom stared at you and Jo.

"Thanks?" Jo raised an eyebrow as you chuckled, whilst Koracick tried to wipe the smile off of his face.

"Hey, how's Hunt?" You enquired, eating a mouthful of the weird stew that the cafeteria was doing.

"He's awake, no longer intubated, but he's on fluids since it's flu season." Teddy explained as she sat down next to you.

"That's good, last thing we need is the chief of trauma dying, especially since Kepner quit-"

"He gave me his job." Teddy interrupted you, watching as you dropped the piece of bread you'd been pulling apart.

"So he's not a complete ass, just to me. Oh well." You replied, ignoring how Teddy frowned at you.

"Why does he treat you like that anyway?"

"He reminds me of someone, one of my foster fathers, pushy, grumpy, demands a lot... I had a foster sister called Chrissy, she broke because he pushed too hard and too much, even over simple things, like maths homework. I didn't handle being pushed by him during my intern year, so I ran out of the OR. Callie and Arizona found me crying and they basically adopted me after that, Callie took me under her wing in ortho, and Arizona's like an older sister to me." You explained, pushing the spoon around in the stew as Teddy nodded.

"Owen and I have very different teaching methods." She admitted, glancing up to meet your gaze as you nodded.

"You two will be good parents, as long as there's not too much pushing. I hate seeing people break."

"Do you work for a carnival?" Teddy asked, watching as Tom Koracick walked in with a plate of chips.

"Every other week. Do you want a ticket? I'm Tom."

"I'm sorry I can't hear you over the smell of those fries- oh thank god, Y/n, thank you!" Teddy exclaimed as you walked in, bringing the milkshake she had been craving.

"I have feet on my hands."

"I'm not gonna feed you, unless I have to, or Y/n could do it? What do you say, lady-lover?" Tom asked, leaving you to roll your eyes before offering Teddy the milkshake straw.

"Did you walk all the way to the drink stand on the other side of the hospital-"

"I wanted a smoothie anyway." You interjected, about to grab a fry when Tom pulled the plate away.

"What? Am I not mermaidy enough?" You retorted, sipping your smoothie with an eye-roll.

"Oh, you heard that? Anyway, I tried to introduce myself but you interrupted with your milkshake delivery service." Tom replied, leaving you to glance at Teddy.

"Teddy Altman, new chief of trauma."

"Tom Koracick, world-renowned neurosurgeon. You really want one, don't you?"

"I really do want to dip it in that milkshake..." Teddy admitted, leaving you to chuckle as you removed the milkshake lid, grabbing a fry so you could dip it and offer it to Teddy.

"See, you have two food services, fries and milkshakes." Tom smirked as you passed Teddy another chip.

"If any patients see you like that, they might go to another hospital." Teddy remarked as she spotted Tom playing Operation.

"Always gets me in the mood. Plus, lady-lover won't play it with me, she's too busy with her lacrosse stuff, I mean, lacrosse really?" Tom remarked, looking up as you glared at him from the other bench.

"It was one of two sports I was semi-good at. Also, I won't play because I don't know how to play whatever that is." You retorted, glaring at the lacrosse stick mesh as it detangled itself.

"Funny bone, not as easy as it looks. S/n, see, that's how you play Operation!" Tom teased, leaving you to roll your eyes.

"Okay then, I have real patients. Y/n, are you coming?" Teddy asked, glancing over at you, you stood up quickly, lacrosse stick in hand as you walked back with Teddy into the hospital.

"Hey, Braces, what are you doing today?" Jo asked as she spotted you walking in with Teddy.

"I have two video calls, then I have a surgery in the afternoon with Link." You explained, checking your phone for the time.

"Wait, who are you videocalling?" Jo frowned, grabbing you by the wrist before you made a getaway.

"Torres then Robbins. I will see you two around." You smiled, waving before hurrying away.

"Y/n! How are you doing? You look happier!" Arizona cheered as her face popped up on the screen of the video call on your end, whilst her end of the call showed you sat in an empty lab, chin propped up on your palm.

"I am, I guess, Joey and Alex came back, Joey's on a surgical innovation fellowship that Bailey and Meredith put together, and I made a new friend I guess? I think you know her, she's the new chief of trauma, Teddy Altman-"

"Yeah, I know Teddy! I'm so glad you two know each other, you're like little lights in each other's lives- we've talked, Teddy mentioned you a couple of times, you two seem to be really great together!" Arizona grinned, leaving you to pause.

"Yeah, she wanted a fresh perspective on everything-"

"You gave her more than a fresh perspective Y/n. You're one of the reasons she stayed in Seattle, she even spoke to Callie about the project you and her are doing, she seemed interested-"

"I'm the ortho fellow, who, as a resident took a 5 hour flight to keep working on her day off." You deadpanned, ignoring the bubbling in your stomach as you and Arizona kept chatting.

"Y/n, do you want to get a drink?" Teddy enquired as Tom Koracick walked away from her.

"I know a place that does really nice hot chocolates?" You suggested, tilting your head to the side slightly as Teddy smiled.

"Sounds great!"

You smiled as you sat with Teddy, sipping your hot chocolate as Teddy chuckled, pointing out the whipped cream mustache you'd acquired.

Your phone buzzed as it lit up with notifications from the photo you'd taken of the two hot chocolates you and Teddy ordered. But it went ignored as you and Teddy kept talking.
