I’m participating in @oakmoontarot’s August challenge, and it’s starting off with a bang. What card best represents your inner skeptic? 8 of Cups. I felt this soooo hard. I feel this as a core piece of my #enneagram8-ness. There’s some part of me that believes I have to go at it alone, that somehow what I’ve been given isn’t good enough and I need to make it something more. It’s the #8’s passion of Lust for sure. Granted I can also see very positive things from this card. I wouldn’t be who or where I am today if it weren’t for my ability to push forward and break new ground. I’m excited to see how this exploration of faith and skepticism plays out for me over the next month. Today I got to hang with @taofitness and we had some great conversations about movement in all levels of our being, authentic content creation, and what it looks like to share your passion in the gift economy. Then he invited me to play. And I must say, it was shocking to me to observe how resistant I was (re: how afraid I was) to play. I’m grateful that my personality continually pushes me into the things I fear and I didn’t miss out on this invitation. But it became very clear to me how little I play in my life, especially when it comes to moving my body. So much of what I do and how I move is geared toward getting somewhere, accomplishing something, and I leave very little room for play. I realized today how much I miss out on by not making room for play. I’m reminded of so much of @inefficiencymagazine’s work. Matt is often a wonderful reminder to me of the importance of play. How easy it is to see those around me as love. I have worked hard to cultivate this type of seeing and it has served me well. What is more difficult, though, is truly seeing myself in this light. No one is perfect, and I have a very long list of my imperfections. We all have our shadows, the parts of us we'd rather not look at or show off. But this unconditional love does something that may as well be magic: Love brings together BOTH our shadow AND our light. True love sees, holds, accepts, and embraces the whole of who we are, and in that process, we become truly whole. Having this kind of love and compassion for ourselves is truly the highest work. And believe me, it's work. This is why I love teaching the #Enneagram. I have found no better tool for uncovering, understanding, and accepting my shadow side. I’m a yoga teacher and yoga therapist who lives in Austin, Tx. I’m queer and nonbinary (they/them, please and thank you!) and have a beautiful family made up of my partner (tarot reader extraordinaire, @oakmoontarot) our two daughters, and more animals than I can usually keep track of. You can tell by the photos I also love to laugh (and look like a goof doing it). • I’m also an Enneagram teacher trained in the Narrative Tradition (@enneaworld). And really, that’s what this insta is about. The Enneagram has changed my life and I want to help other people not only learn their types, but learn how to work with them in order to transform their lives. I do private coaching, teach workshops, and host a monthly meet up here in Austin with my friends over at @austinrelationalwellness.
