In August of 2023 I was lucky enough to be able to attend Sotheby’s in Dublin for “a Song for you”, an exhibition by Belfast born artist Jack Coulter. Jack is an artist who has a particularly individual relationship with music; working with his synesthesia, put simply, he paints it.

His works are renditions of chart songs in beautiful abstract explosions of colour, movement, and blending forms, accompanied by a Spotify playlist to listen to while you walk around. The space was intimate and cozy and the work speaks for itself.

I hope to continue using him and his work as a point of reference

In “The Art of Listening”, we talk about how listening and being listened to is critical for Black thought, counterculture, revolution, and myth-making. The gist of The Dark Tower Mixtape is I record my favorite passages from Stephen King’s epic, genre-spanning series and write/cover/sample/commission music that makes alchemical magic with the text, then publish them on my Patreon, SKzd. "Someone Saved My Life Tonight" is written right into this Wolves of the Calla scene, and New Zealand film composer Planet Artemis—who you should check out on Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube—delivered a truly stunning rendition.
