Working on building a cutie a new body.
Walking them through the configuration process of their new skeleton, taking measurements like a tailor, fine tuning offsets and sizes via VR motion tests.
Either ship of theseus conversion of their brain or taking a scan while holding their hand.
Helping them build the skills to control peripherals from limbs to sensors.
Starting the print for their brand new skeleton, nerves, and the tooling for molding their soft features.
Watching their body slowly coalesce from different lentil-like plastic pellets used artfully and intentionally.
Installing and sealing their brain into their skeleton, so they can feel and enjoy the process of being freed from their soluble support structure.
Manually washing them down with solvents to melt away all the support scaffolding, freeing up their joints for the very first time and testing their range of motion before they even have their motors installed.
Taking them out of the spray down station and dutifully bolting each of their motors in place, crimping ferrules onto the leads, and connecting their motors and encoders for the very first time.
Giving them a few moments to amble around on their own, doing the pre-overmolding checklist to ensure they can hold the right position as their soft features are molded on.
Finally, you lead them gently by the hand to the molding machine, they stand in place, and a suit of armor specifically tailored to them assembles around them to have the spaces filled with their soft artificial skin.
Indecent for the first time in their new life, you kiss them on the cheek and dress them in the standard hospital gown and guide them to the auto-tailor that has already sewn their new outfits of choice to perfectly match their new form.
For the first time in their life, everything fits. Perfectly. Not a single hitch or tear, everything just as tight or loose as they want it. They fill out their outfit perfectly and you stand there in awe even though this is your 6,735th time. It really never gets old.
This time is special though, because you'll be spending the rest of your unnatural lives together. This is the last hour of your last day, and you walk out for the last time. For the first time hand in hand with your gorgeous handsome beautiful cute adorable pretty breathtaking perfect partner.
It's time to enjoy eternity, together, no need to worry about 'in sickness or in health', and death will never do us part.

Greetings! I just want to say I LOVE your creation of Velothi language. Your nerd powers are mighty and admirable. I've also been reading How to Disappear Completely. I am thoroughly impressed and inspired by your descriptive writing skills. I struggle with social anxiety and find a lot of Iriel's thoughts frighteningly relatable.
I am working on my own Morrowind fanfic, Chronicles of an Outlander, and wanted to use some of your Velothi words. I will definitely credit you. I found your documents on the language, but linguistics confuses the heck out of me, and I'm struggling to translate some phrases. Would you be so kind as to help me translate/verify these?
He became an Ash Vampire?
Outcast ('haisha' or 'haishan'?)
Outlander (I found 2 words for this: 'urammat' and 'cho')
Idiot/fool
We're going to die out here!
Friend (abasa?)
No way/I can't believe it! (In like a 'holy shit!' or 'that's horrible!' kind of way.)
Thank you (in a casual way. Dinammu or salka?)
Sharmat took him away.
Sharmat took me away.
Do you want to travel with us?
Farewell. We hope to cross paths again.
Bless and be blessed. ('assuh kal assor' or 'assusi kal assour'? In this context, it is used as a farewell.)
I plan to use more Velothi in my fanfic down the road, so I hope you don't mind if I ask you more things later. Also, have you ever considered making an online Velothi translator? It would be such a big help for fanfic writers. I have heard of Lingojam and Apertium, but I don't know how good they are.
Have an enchanting week!
-K
Hey, thank you for your kind words about my various self-indulgent Morrowind projects, I'm glad you enjoyed them. :)
I'm happy to translate stuff into my Velothi conlang, but I can't promise it'll always be super-fast, because it does take a fair amount of time, depending on the phrase, and I've got a lot on, right now. But I enjoy it, so feel free to send stuff! It helps to have info on who is speaking to whom, though, as my conlang's grammar changes a lot, dependant on the social context, and the gender of the speakers.
Which... is the reason an auto-translator is never gonna work. Honestly, even the big auto-translators for major languages can't ever be all that accurate, because they don't know context, either. What they DO have, is a huge bank of existing translated text in that language, that they can pull from. Conlangs don't have that, especially not a micro-niche one like mine. Knowing this, I had to go have a look to see how conlang-translators like Lingojam worked, because I didn't see how that could actually function.
Spoiler: it doesn't. It's very cool, don't get me wrong, and you could have a lot of fun with it! But it's just doing straight text-swaps and phrase swaps, with a few bonus rules and regex things you can apply. It would only sort-of work if you had a conlang that was a complete structural facsimile of English, with just the individual words changed, and that's not a conlang, it's a cipher. It can't handle a whole new grammar, unless you hand-encoded every possible phrase, and then it still wouldn't get the genders or context right.
Counterpoint: nobody knows or cares what an accurate translation into my conlang is, except me. People could just write Velothi textslop for flavour, and it'd be pretty much the same from a reader's point of view! But... while my conlang is far from perfect, if people are gonna credit me for it, I'd rather it was at least consistent by my own standards, and that whatever errors remain are my own. Like I said, translating into it is fun for me, enrichment for my enclosure.
So. Don't have time to do every sentence right away, but I can reblog this post with some of the phrases in a bit.

How to tell if your eSim has been activated: Nomad desktop
Navigate to getnomad.app/ in your web browser and sign in with the email and password you used to buy the eSim.
At the top right of the screen, to the left of the blue oval button that says "My Account," click "Manage" to open a drop-down menu. Click "Manage Plans."
Tumblr media
Here you will see all of the plans that are current and not expired.
Tumblr media
Click on a plan to open its details page. If the plan is not active, red-orange text will read "not yet started" in the circle to the right.
Tumblr media
Usually, a plan only begins to count down to expiry once it is installed, but Nomad also has a set date (from the purchase of the eSim) that it will begin counting down to expiry regardless of whether it is installed. You can see this date under where it says "Service: Data Only" on the left. As of January 2024, the Connecting Humanity team has asked people to reply to the email they sent containing the QR code for any inactive eSim that is about to begin auto-expiry (see instructions below).
If the plan is active, a blue meter will show the data usage around the circumference of the circle to the right, and the amount of data used will be printed inside the circle; the amount of time left before the eSim expires will be shown at the left, under the area that says "Service: Data Only" and above the blue button that says "Add more data."
Tumblr media
How to top up a plan
Don’t let the plan expire if data is still being used! Just before the validity is up, or before the available data runs out, click the blue button at the bottom that says “Add more data,” scroll down and select one of the plans, then click the blue button at the bottom reading “Checkout” to top up the plan.
Tumblr media
How to tell which plan is which
If you’ve sent multiple eSims from the same app to the Connecting Humanity team, some are active and some aren’t, and you’re not sure which e-mail to reply to to tell the team that that plan is still inactive—
I’ve figured this out by visually comparing the QR codes. Click on an inactive plan. Click the button towards the bottom of the page that says “Installation Instruction,” just to the right of the blue button that says "My Plans."
Tumblr media
Scroll down. Under where it says "Add eSim to your phone," expand the menu titled "Install eSIM via QR code or Manual Input."
Tumblr media
Scroll down a bit. To the right of the blue button that says "Manual Input" is a greyed-out button that says "QR code." Toggle over to the QR code. The QR code for this plan will appear right under the menu.
Tumblr media
Now find the e-mail for a Nomad plan that you sent during October, November, or the first two weeks of December and visually compare to see if the QR code matches. If it does, then that means this plan is not yet active, and you should send a reply to this e-mail to let the team know.
If you can't visually compare QR codes, take a screenshot of both QR codes and upload the image files to an online QR code reader to get the data they're encoding in a text format; then compare the text to see if it matches.
Note: Only do this on desktop if you originally purchased the plan and sent the QR code on desktop. The QR code for the same plan looks completely different on desktop from how it looks in the app.

so was no one gonna tell me that there's multiple free, ad-less, always-offline phone apps for listening to and managing downloaded music? I decided on musicolet because from the reviews it seems to fit what i want most, but holy crap i had no idea that these things even existed, let alone that they were good.
things Musicolet does: - supports basically every file type, including multiple lossless file types (i use FLAC) - auto sorts by artist, album, even genre, assuming the CD has that encoded - allows you to custom-tag individual songs, albums, and even artists -- so if your CD doesn't come with that stuff auto-encoded, you can do it yourself - auto-adds album art if the CD has it, and if it doesn't then it's easy to add it to the album yourself - playlists! both custom playlists and premade ones like favorites, recently added, recently played, most played, etc - MULTIPLE QUEUES! holy crap this one is a life changer. - customizable equalizer - the shuffle feature works better than spotify's, but also there's a bunch of advanced shuffle settings if you want them
AND AGAIN: - no ads - free - always offline

Vogon Media Server v0.43a
So I decided I did want to deal with the PDF problem.
I didn't resolve the large memory footprint problem yet, but I think today's work puts me closer to a solution. I've written a new custom PDF reader on top of the PDF.js library from Mozilla. This reader is much more simple than the full one built into Firefox browsers, but it utilizes the same underlying rendering libraries so it should be relatively accurate (for desktop users). The big benefit this brings is that it's a match for the existing CBZ reader controls and behavior, unifying the application and bringing in additional convenience features like history tracking and auto link to next issue/book when you reach the end of the current one.
The history tracking on the PDFs is a big win, in my opinion, as I have a lot of comics in PDF form that I can now throw into series and read.
Word of warning. PDFs bigger than a few MB can completely overload mobile browsers, resulting in poor rendering with completely missing elements, or a full browser crash. I'm betting the limit has a lot to do with your device's RAM, but I don't have enough familiarity to know for sure. These limitations are almost the same as the limits for the Mozilla written reader, so I think it has more to do with storing that much binary data in a browser session than how I am navigating around their APIs.
As far as addressing that problem, I suspect that if I can get TCPDF to read the meta data (i.e. the number of pages), I can use the library to write single page PDF files to memory and serve those instead of the full file. I'm already serving the PDF as a base64 encoded binary glob rather than from the file system directly. It doesn't solve the problem of in-document links, but since I provide the full Mozilla reader as a backup (accessible by clicking the new "Switch Reader" button), you can always swap readers if you need that.
As noted earlier today, the install script is still not working correctly so unless you have a working install already you'll have to wait until I get my VMs set up to be able to test and fix that. Good news on that front, the new media server builds much much faster than the old PI, so fast iteration should be very doable.
But, if you want to look at the code: https://github.com/stephentkennedy/vogon_media_server

Version 575

I had a great week. I made a bunch of small improvements, and I am gearing up to start duplicate auto-resolution.
full changelog
highlights
The new tag autocomplete 'children' tab now sorts by count and clips to the top n (default 40) results. You can change the n under options->tags. This takes a bit of extra CPU to figure out, so let me know what performance you see in IRL situations.
When you ask subscriptions to 'check now', if there are a mix of DEAD and ALIVE subs, it now asks you which ones you want to check. Should be easier to resuscitate DEAD subs en masse now.
More twitter URLs are supported by default. You should now be able to drag and drop a vxtwitter or fxtwitter embed URL on the client and it'll figure it all out.
I fixed the (non) alphabetisation of GET URL parameters in URL Class settings, which I broke by accident a few weeks ago with the new URL encoding tech. If you have a super advanced downloader that relies on parameters being in a certain order, please try again and let me know if you still have any issues.
duplicate auto-resolution
This week I also put time into planning out the duplicate auto-resolution system, which will optionally and highly-user-configurably resolve the easiest duplicate pairs without human input. I am happy with my plan, and I have sketched out a skeleton of code. The whole problem looks simpler than I expected, which is good, but as always there will be a lot to do.
I will keep chipping away at this in the coming weeks and will roll out the features in waves for advanced users to try out. The first version will resolve jpeg/png pixel duplicate pairs.
next week
A bit more auto-duplicate resolution work, and I'd like to see if I can reduce some of the juddery latency when you try to look at media, particularly videos, while the client is busy doing imports in the background.

gif creation - poor man’s edition
download video: yt-dlp auto downloads best quality
video player: mpv displays milliseconds
clip: ffmpeg -i “input.webm” -ss 00:00:09.433 -codec copy -map 0 -t 00:00:03.200 “output.webm”
codec copy means lossless
idk what map 0 means but seems important
if its fucked up, re encode. although in my experience, if it needs to re-encode it's not gonna import into krita. ffmpeg -i input.mkv -ss 00:22:03.593 -t 00:00:02.711 -c:v libx264 -c:a aac output.mkv
if it can't import to krita, you just gotta OBS it. then trim w video editor (kdenlive). render as png set. import first frame as video animation. delete the layer. select import animation frames.
edit gif: Krita->import video animation
crop/resize (540px for tumblr)
add filter layer: sharpen (+ dodge)
(optional) transparency mask
render animation
apng: highest quality, outrageous file size
webp: high quality, low file size, not universally supported
gif: low quality, med-high file size
edit: file type quality actually depends. sometimes gif is higher quality than webp. just experiment.
note: sometimes just chucking the clip into ezgif gives higher quality. the key is not to resize it (and just have ezgif resize it). The issue is sometimes the grain from gifs is more visually displeasing than the more jpeg form of compression that webps do.

Label Printer Machine: The Ultimate Guide for Efficient and Professional Product Labeling
Tumblr media
What is a Label Printer Machine?
A label printer machine is a device that prints custom or standardized labels for products, containers, cartons, and shipping packages. It can print on paper, plastic, thermal material, or synthetic labels using technologies like thermal transfer, direct thermal, or inkjet. Label printer machines are essential in packaging, inventory management, retail, pharmaceuticals, logistics, and food processing.
Types of Label Printer Machines
1. Thermal Transfer Label Printers
These use heat to transfer ink from a ribbon onto the label. Ideal for long-lasting, waterproof, smudge-resistant labels, commonly used in pharmaceuticals, electronics, and industrial labeling.
2. Direct Thermal Label Printers
No ribbon is used; heat-sensitive label paper darkens when heated. Best for short-term applications like shipping labels, receipts, and food packaging.
3. Inkjet Label Printers
Produce high-resolution, colorful labels. Suitable for custom branding, marketing labels, and retail packaging.
4. Laser Label Printers
Offer speed and sharpness. Used when mass label printing is needed, especially for office or warehouse environments.
5. Portable Label Printers
Handheld or mobile devices used in field service, retail, logistics, and inventory control.
6. RFID Label Printers
Print and encode RFID tags and barcodes for real-time tracking and supply chain automation.
Common Applications Across Industries
1. Food and Beverage
Nutritional labels, expiry dates, batch codes
Tamper-evident and waterproof labels
2. Pharmaceuticals
Regulatory-compliant labels with dosage info, QR codes, batch numbers
High print precision and barcode clarity

4. Manufacturing
Asset labels, compliance tags, quality control stickers
5. Logistics and Warehousing
Shipping and barcode labels
SKU and inventory management tags
6. Retail
Price tags, promotional stickers, and shelf labels
Key Features of High-Quality Label Printer Machines
1. Print Resolution
Measured in DPI (dots per inch). For clear text and barcodes, 203 DPI is standard, while 300–600 DPI is used for high-definition images and small text.
2. Print Speed
Ranges from 2 to 14 inches per second (IPS). Higher speeds are ideal for bulk printing operations.
3. Connectivity Options
USB, Ethernet, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi—essential for integration with POS systems, warehouse management software, or industrial PLCs.
4. Media Compatibility
Should support a variety of label rolls: paper, PET, PP, BOPP, synthetic, glossy, and matte.
5. Software Integration
Compatibility with label design software like BarTender, NiceLabel, or ZebraDesigner.
6. Auto-Cutter and Peeler
Helps in high-speed workflows by automatically cutting or peeling off printed labels.
Advantages of Using a Label Printer Machine
Professional Packaging: Clean, precise labels reflect product quality
Customization: Easily print logos, barcodes, and QR codes on demand

AI tool finds gene groups behind complex diseases and could help create personalized treatments
Tumblr media
- By Nuadox Crew -
Northwestern University biophysicists have developed a new AI-powered tool to identify gene combinations that cause complex diseases like cancer, diabetes, and asthma.
Unlike single-gene disorders, these illnesses result from multiple genes interacting, making them harder to study.
The new model, called TWAVE (Transcriptome-Wide conditional Variational auto-Encoder), uses generative AI to amplify limited gene expression data and detect patterns linked to disease traits.
Rather than focusing on individual genes, TWAVE identifies gene groups responsible for shifting cells between healthy and diseased states. It also considers gene expression, which reflects environmental and lifestyle factors and avoids privacy concerns associated with DNA sequences.
In tests across various diseases, TWAVE outperformed traditional methods by pinpointing disease-causing genes—including some previously missed—and showing that different people can develop the same disease from different genetic pathways.
This paves the way for more personalized treatments based on an individual's specific gene expression profile.

Gamers all now know the PlayStation Platinum headset & have disappeared. True 7.1 while you play Rainbow Six Siege online(low ping auto-found!) FPS awakens the hunter-gatherer entice of man.
Ghost Recon Wild-Lands is another with amazing sound with the true 7.1s.
Ultra geek headset PlayStation Platinum is actual 7.1. People mis-stated virtual as actual. Virtual is by virtue of audio-driver programmers. The digital signature to the 2 speakers in each ear vs. the signature to 4 speakers per ear is the size of the dongle on the playstation platinums a double 2.4 Ghz encoded for each ear 3.1?
It doesn't have humongous battery life, so you nerd plug it to charge as you use it of course.
