I graduated High School on the Principal's list with an Award of Excellence last Wednesday, which may not seem like a lot but it is for me.

I grew up as the smart kid, the prized child because my grades were always good and I loved school. Grade 8 comes around and I stopped going. I never completed 8th grade. Same thing happened in years 9 and 10, I just never went and never finished them.

The thought of actually finishing high school was a far-fetched dream by the time I turned 18, but an alternative education program reached out to me and helped me get back to class. After 2 years I graduated with an Adult Diploma (getting a normal diploma would have required me to return the next year to take one class, which was stupid).

There's no moral to this or anything, I'm just really sappy over the fact I graduated and am attending college in the fall. I'm terrified my depression and anxiety are going to screw me over again, it already kind of is, but I'm just a bit more confident now :)

In general bringing up FF as an example for capital f Fantasy is a cauldron of entertainment. People don't remember the insane forum fights nerds have had since people could procure vBulletin and host gaming forums about if FF is Fantasy or not. Call FF8 Fantasy in front of a 2e Elitist. I dare you.

There is also an entire debate about western fantasy and eastern fantasy and everything inbetween and how it is really bad actually that Fantasy has been homogenized into what Americans think medieval The Europe was. but that's for a day when i do a Gingerwort Truffle Tea moment again. Which did lead to the creation of that mod.

Also I can't take any complaints about retcons in Veilguard seriously as I have played the FF13 trilogy. In LR they have two whole cutscenes where Serah and Lightning basically say "lol yeah we fucked up a lot with 13-2, so we are actively retconning what happened. 13-2 was a mistake and is a complete waste of time to play. literally nothing canonically happened in that game."

THAT'S a retcon. An unreliable narrator getting corrected, like Veilguard fuck you Genitivi, is not.

Also we can't talk about retcons and Final Fantasy and toxic fans without talking about what they're doing to the FF7 Remakes. But even like, Melpert Vinesauce who is a giant FF7 fan was able to talk about Rebirth like a mature person. Holy shit imagine that. Finding some aspects of a game disappointing as a longtime fan and still having happy things to say about it. We introduced that concept to the avg veil crit poster and they went into cardiac arrest.

Since I'm not a native speaker, we'll just have to go with the english translation

Assumptions made :

Current global population - 7 billion

avg lifespan of a person - 80 years

No. of people you meet everyday - 1000

Calculation :

No. of people you are likely to encounter in your lifetime - 29 million approx i.e.,(365.25)*80*1000 = 29.22 million

The probability of two people meeting - 0.00417 i.e., 29.22 million/7 billion

And the odds of the two people liking each other - 0.0000173, where did this number come from? Don't tell me that it's just (0.00417*0.00417), which it seems to be. Ofc, person1 liking person2 and person2 liking person1 are mutually exclusive events, so it would be (probability of person1 liking person2)*(probability of person2 liking person1).

Are we assuming that if two people meet, they will like each other??? Am I missing something here?

I HATE APPLYING TO COLLEGE. I finished (I think) my personal statement and it's like fine. It's about my love for Korean literature and then the overall message is that I value intellectual curiosity and obsession (in like normal way. haha.) but i'm froze in my place and going crazy over the fact that my sat is a 1500 so 10 points lower than the my #1 school's alleged (ALLEGED. BECAUSE THEY DONT RELEASE ANY OF THEIR INFO) average score.... (which clearly isn't there average score bc of the Evil test optionals). but!! my sat score is 600+ points higher than my school's avg. (and also, idk how they're gonna weight scores given that the whole sat changed) and even though I am Asian I also go to a severely underfunded school in Maine (my #1 school is in the midwest, according to my calculations (aka instagram stalking) only about 4 ppl from my entire state attend the school each year). and I'm applying for east Asian studies aka major nobody wants do to (yay!) but the other people applying for that are likely insanely intelligent international school impossibly rich international students (BOOOOOO!). but perhaps it's time to give a mixed race girl from Maine a chance huh. my ecs are good I believe and certainly very very unique most of them anyway. I have a clear spike for my major. it's also clear I'm not a loser nerd bc of my letters of rec (hopefully) and the fact I'm top 5 in athletics in the state for my event. March Fic Madness: Comment Stats

Thank you so much to @the-blind-assassin-12 for cooking up the March Fic Madness challenge! It was a great reminder to comment on all of the lovely things I read, and I had a lot of fun seeing other people's fic roundups as the month went along!

I’m a nerd and wanted some extra practice in R, so I ran some numbers on my commenting habits. This is mostly just for me, but since I'm posting about the challenge anyway, I figured I'd share for funsies and posterity.

I reblogged a total of 98 posts, which were from 40 distinct works written by 26 authors.

If you're reading this, you probably know I'm pretty chatty in the comments... It turns out that I wrote ~25.5k words worth of comments this month. Wild.

I read approximately 400k words, just over a quarter of which were dedicated to the lovely Frankie!

Data for fic word counts was taken directly from what is listed either by the author or on the ao3 version of a fic if available. There are a few fics included in other stats that are not included here because word count was not available.

I made a total of 98 reblog comments across 26 standalone fics and 72 chapters/parts of series.

INFODUMP INCITED you’re getting my nerd talk about my rewrite AU- starting off with the basics! (side note I used to have a wordpad document with all the lore and world building in it but I fucking LOST IT I'm still so mad about it so 90% of this is from memory)

GENERAL CONTEXT FIRST

So basically, I love fucking around with the idea of genetics and typical race traditions and customs and THE MAIN PONY RACES GIVE SUCH A PERFECT OPPORTUNITY FOR IT- and I’m gonna start off with-!

UNICORNS:

Out of the three races, Unicorns are the most open and accepting of anybody deviating from the typical norm. Being the race most steeped in expression and individuality in their culture, Unicorns LOVE seeing others express themselves and be open to who they are! New fashion style you want to try out? Go all in, nobody is going to side-eye you for trying something out of the current trends!

Basically, Unicorns in this AU are nearly the complete opposite of Canterlot unicorns- many still put pride into their looks and appearance, but they’re never quick to judge others. Passion, dedication, and love is what Canterlot and it’s unicorn residence are built around and they’re happy to see others bask in that just as much as they do! This is why Canterlot is typically the main refuge for creatures all around Equestria or those looking to start a new life away from harsh and bitter traditions.

Common Unicorn Features:

Traditional tail (think lion/kirin tail)

Curly fur

Cooler colors

Tall height

Small hooves

Spots of winter coat (Unicorns tend to trim their winter coats, think of a poodle)

Gradient hair colors

PEGASI:

Pegasi are much less forgiving- not in the sense of fashion or expression- but in the sense of physique. Cloudsdale and the culture that lives there is one of toxic competition; Since Pegasi are entrusted with managing weather and the main race for Equestria's air defense, being a good flier is expected above all else. Those with ideal flight strength and speed are praised, put on a pedestal as an example of what you SHOULD be- but unfortunately a society centered around the best of the best leaves those who can't live up to it at the bottom. Pegasi born with short wings or heavy figures- anything that could hinder their flight- are scrutinized and looked down upon in Cloudsdale. Many who can't be 'the best' are teased and mocked in their early years and struggle to find jobs or respect later down the line. It's part of the reason so many disabled Pegasi can be found in places like Canterlot and Ponyville, people there won't look down on them for things out of their control.

Common Pegasus Features:

Medium sized, feathered ears

Short hair (can grow long, but typically kept short to help with flight)

Short fur

Feather tufts (back hooves, shoulders, cheeks, under eye, neck, tail)

Most any color

Lanky figure, avg. height

Long snout

Gradient body

Hollow bones (this makes them particularly weak fighters without wing power)

EARTH PONIES:

Earth ponies are by far the most close-minded of the ponies. Being the race most dependent on hard-labor and community, Earth ponies stay very close to their inner-circles, sticking together and living by traditions passed down from countless generations ago. While this fosters a very close-knit family dynamic and good work ethic- living by tradition and never questioning it can lead to.. discriminatory behaviors, even decades after mistrust between the 3 tribes has dispersed. Being strong is essential when working on the field, and the long-inaccurate rhetoric that "pure-bred" earth ponies are the strongest still runs rampant in Earth pony communities. Because of this, it's often considered shameful to partner with another race, have a child with a different race, or invite a different race to work on the fields with you. In later Equestrian years this rampant racism has begun to die down in Earth pony communities, but many still feel saddled with guilt or worry when they break these traditions, even if they no-longer apply.

Common Earth Features:

Stout, small ears

Any hair length

Fluffy (including fetlocks)

Warm colors

Short, chunky build

Short snout

Big hooves

Big winter coat (it’s considered shameful in Earth pony culture to cut or trim it if not needed)
