Hi!

Would you happen to have any fic rec that respect Kon (and Tim) as a character and don't write a totally other character with just the same name?

(I really do not have any criteria, i don't care if there is a romantic ship or not I really just want to read a fic with the least amount of mischaracterization as possible-)

chrysalis by @loisinherlane. its a superfam fic about kon and the concept of growing up and it makes me so 🥺 the kon & ma and the kon & kara bits in particular. oaugh

fill in the blanks by @mindshelter is just so cute. its temporary amnesiac tim looking at kon and immediately going heart eyes. great look at kon from an "outsider" perspective AND fun insight into how tim's ridiculous mind works!

practical applications of a memorized heartbeat by @comphetkoncass tim gets fucked up and kon gets to put his ttk skills to the test (i.e. life-saving medical ttk applications). i dearly love when kon is Competent!!!!!

i want your complications too by @loisinherlane is more about clois than kon, but he features here as a 7 year old clone that superman rescued from cadmus early and i die every time bc hes so Fuckigningngng cute. babby.

hand on my stupid heart by @misspickman gets me in the "kon you have fucking issues please get help buddy" (he will not) department. the smallville parts (lori!!!! my beloved!!!!) are particularly chefs kiss!!

within the rubble and the harvest by @radioactive-earthshine for. well! speaking of kon and smallville!!!! ahhghgh!!! KON and SMALLVILLE!!! im so fascinated by his adjustment period and his love for ma and pa and. ough. all the tiny details are so good too. i love u kon and smallville.

AND finally not to toot my own horn but in case you haven't already seen MY kon fics, a quick self-plug here:

ME!!!! a kon post-resurrection character study dealing with the overlap of internalized homophobia and all that suicidal ideation he's been carrying around from day one. what's a guy supposed to do when he's pretty sure he came back wrong, 'cuz he's pretty sure he was never supposed to come back at all, but no one else can see it?

Why is it every time someone asks for a list of introductory comics for newbies to get hooked people lose their goddamn minds and start reccing: elaborate Elseworlds that contain triple strength Justice Leagues and which have NO obvious sequels; genre-interrogation pieces frequently written 30+ years ago (even Hush is now over 20); a list of things that very specifically insist they’re Graphic Novels not Comics; and things with Giant Genre Conceit in them that can be confronting to newbies.

Most of this list achieves nothing. ‘Acclaimed story’ usually means the fans love it or the industry loves it, neither of which are barometers for if a NEWBIE will love it.

(There’s also a feedback loop between ‘people who watch Batman movies being recced The Dark Knight Returns so people think that’s what comic and Batman movies should be and disparage a whole list of BASIC superhero concepts’ but I’m tired today)

A far simpler list of suggestions to finding a starter comic for someone:-

1. Something written after 2000. The art will be more accessible. I PROMISE you it will help. You want something with art the person will actually enjoy.

2. Unless you KNOW they’ll get a kick out of something heavily stylised, stick to stuff with clean lines, good colour, and normal human proportions.

3. Ask/think what this person’s favourite stories/TV shows/movies are and PICK A COMIC WITH SIMILAR THEMES.

4. A limited cast list oh my god. Solos or team books for teams with a max of 4 members.

5. Don’t fall into the trap of going ‘an anthology book would be a great sampler’ don’t DO IT, give them an anthology once they’re hooked. You are trying to form babby’s first blorbo, they need to spend exclusive time together.

6. Minis are honestly great in that they have self contained stories, but if possible pick a mini for a character who actually has OTHER real appearances nearbyish. I want to shove Hawkgirl into everyone’s hands but I also know that getting more amazing Kendra stories soon is…unlikely.

7. Alternatively a contained solo run with at least 24 issues. Long enough to hook someone, by the end of it they’re probably ready to to branch out.

8. Honestly, think of your ‘I don’t usually read X family/imprint but this was great’ list more than your all time faves list. Better density of titles that are actually accessible without needing backstory.

HMMMMMMMM well i am a klaviergirl so this is mostly klapollo/aa4 but here are my recs :3

turnabout toast is a lovely post-aa4 nrmt fic with background klapollo. great "people trying to fix their lives" stuff and WAHHHH edgeworth... also a lot of lovely socal setting stuff (<- socal native, weak for it). phoenix being kind of a bastard but not a bad guy, which i think is fun, because it's interesting.

dirty sympathy, also by the above author. CW for abuse: the premise of the fic is that it's a retelling of aa4 where klavier and apollo are behind the scenes of all the cases collaborating to get rid of each other's abusers (daryan and kristoph, respectively), and trying to keep everything secret. it's a suspenseful read and it's like. crazy. auuughhh. makes me crazy. it's prob my fave aa fic but it takes so much out of me to reread

about him - last rec from this author. the only piece of clay terran fic i have any time for. post-aa5 klapollo sweetness with the outsider pov. so cutes

jamais vu - post-aa6 klapollo get-back-together fic where they hook up at nrmt's wedding

turnabout toilet brush - SO FUN. office farce where WAA argue over who broke the toilet brush. good phoenix pov with fun athena & apollo banter. nrmt and background klapollo

in better light - pacific rim au! trucy & apollo siblingisms, with angsty not-married nrmt, a bit of klapollo, and swag k-scientist ema skye

say it to the crowd - various minor character outsider povs on pre-relationship klapollo. i looooooove outsider pov

notes from the underworld - canon-divergent epistolary bad end aa4 au where MVK kills phoenix and maya with his taser in aa1. only reccing the first in the series since the others weren't to my tastes but the first one. wagh

turnabout from within - an aa5 prequel case! really fun. tries to be a bridge between aa4 and aa5 and is a very fun written version of an AA case. aura is there!! minor klapollo! fun aa pun names!

the thing about forgiveness - trucy and klavier talk post-aa4... wah... performers...

youngblood - daryan pov about his and klavier's relationship. very good... sad bc it's from the pov of a guy who sucks and how the love of his life deserves better than him. good stuff. klapollo endgame bc klavier deserves a decent guy as a bf

turnabout runaway - WAGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH it's about post-OT pearl dealing with like. the trauma of all that shit with her family as best an 8yo can - by trying to run away to protect mystic maya :( babby... (this one is written by a good friend of mine :3)

SPOILERS BELOW: AoD, Wolf Queen, Prodigal Dragonborn, Unfated, And When The World Remembers

Age of the Dragon, even if it is a beast. Started out as a what if crossover, ended up being an epic adventure touching on colonialism, first contact, toxic organised religion, overcoming religious trauma, overcoming addiction, saving the world but at a cost, arriving in a new place and ending up overturning half their culture, how far are you willing to go to win, what salvation really looks like, redemption, freedom, and reuniting long-lost family. It gave me Cicero's Uncle and I love him very much. It gave Alistair his New Dog, and I love that very much too. XD

Wolf Queen Awakens - it just works. It just came together so easily, and I'm proud of it. The last scene still moves me to tears, it's like, yeah, Elisif, you did it. You saved the world. You won your throne. You avenged your husband. You got a new one. You're not a helpless figurehead any more and never will be again. And now you're Queen. You enjoy yourself, you earned this.

Prodigal Dragonborn - it is a fluffy romance between a lonely nerd who wasn't really expecting to find a partner, but was looking for an adventure and an amazing scientific discovery, and manages to come home with all three. I really liked writing Lucien. He's so sweet and lovable and definitely on the ace spectrum and probably autistic as well. Teasing out the backstory that Joseph Russell didn't put in and quite possibly didn't intend to be there was a lot of fun. "I'm the one using the library for its intended purpose and I'm the problem??" and "my amazing scientific discovery loves me back!" were the two most iconic lines, I think. Plus we also get Miraak with no memories looking for redemption and finding it in this scientist who will surely perish if not protected... and in the end, choosing love and forgiveness over wrath and retribution and realising his fate is not set in stone after all, and there doesn't have to be a divide between his real self and the part that loves Lucien. Also there's the cat. How can you not love Lucien's cat. That cat's practically a character in her own right. Lived in fear Joseph Russell would find out what I'd done with his boy and flip out when I started writing it, but by now I've largely realised I probably needn't have worried.

Unfated - crack turned serious. Silly Skyrim version of a silly DND webcomic, in which the Markarth Incident gets averted due to shenanigans but those shenanigans result in peace talks, an agreement, a wary truce between magic-phobic Stormcloaks fresh from a war that left them all traumatised and Reachfolk not sure how to treat the ones who were invading their country five minutes ago, and slowly the two cultures start merging as everyone involved starts to heal. And then the reaction comes, and consequences, and suddenly it all starts kicking off and then Teenage Cicero shows up. Soon followed by his now-Tranquil Uncle. It's got very intense, but I am enjoying picking this one up again. Also everyone's younger selves are proving a delight to write. Keirine newly First Matriarch and still unsure of herself. Madanach who never went to Cidhna Mine and has five young kids to look after. Farkas and Vilkas as teenagers. Uncle Cicero in his mid-forties. Custom follower Kaidan as a wee babby and his mum alive and I really love writing her too. Teeny tiny Leliana uprooted from Orlais and everything she's ever known. Delphine in her twenties and one Blade among many, serving alongside at least one who remembers what she was like before the war and will not put up with her crap. Elisif's parents! Tiny Vex of all people (people went nuts over Tiny Vex and she's only a bit character). MADANACH'S KIDS. Eola as a tiny baby who loves meat already and turned out to be the one to convince Ulfric to give in. And of course Ulfric Stormcloak, 29, war crimes averted, getting therapy, in a healthy relationship and healing. All the Stormcloaks, healing. Able to lay down their weapons, work with non-Nords and magic users at that, and live peacefully - mostly. It's an odd little universe but I love it.

And When the World Remembers - Dragon Age Inquisition, but the Herald of Andraste is stupidly OP and an ex-Dark Lord on the run, who falls face first out of Apocrypha and into his new cult and is absolutely delighted with his new Andrastian minions. And then he changes. Slowly he starts remembering how to be human again. Slowly he starts realising he actually likes these people. And then he meets this flamboyant necromancer from Tevinter who turns his life upside down before you can say 'future husband' and now there's two of them both trying to work through their issues and save the world and try to be good people while doing it. And then Miraak's past comes back to haunt him, and then Dragonborn Three arrives and he has not just a partner and an Inquisition... but siblings again. I fully intend to finish this one day, I swear it, but Unfated ran away with me.

My new years day as a babby!!!

I got a baff today and and babaand I been showing daddy perks an rec because he gotted me da pop for howidays!!!! We had choccy chip pancakes for bweakfast too!!!

Just found out that my best friend is pregnant (FIRST IN OUR GROUP I'M SO EXCITED) and I'm wondering, is there any baby/pregnancy stuff that people don't think to gift but would be really nice to have? Very happy for you :3

not sure on baby stuff since i’m still occupied so i havent yet had the chance to regret not having something.

as for preggy stuff, here’s a mix of both inexpensive and quite expensive gift options!

pregnancy pillow! if bff isn’t too far along then the back pains might not have settled in just yet, and they can get BAD like i sometimes have trouble walking from bed to bathroom without shouting bad. that decreased significantly with a C-shaped pillow! now instead of literally every night it’s only once a week or so!

bamboobie pillows! they’re little microwavable/freezable pellet-filled pillows that you slip into your bra for soothing sore tiddies. and they WILL be sore. perfect for pregnancy, excellent for postpartum, still useful during periods! mine were 10 bucks uwu

a seat cushion! i sit in a computer chair nearly all day and it was already losing the cushion after over a year of heavy use, so i’ve been using a throw pillow to sit on because my tailbone has been taking a BEATING. additionally, i don’t have hemorrhoids yet but i probably will eventually, so a really good cushion will be essential. that’s more late-game content tho.

doppler! you get to see the ‘heartbeat’ (still just a single artery and not yet an actual heart) during the 8-week internal ultrasound. if you’re really lucky, you might get an earlier one, but normally heartbeat is first heard at 6-8 weeks. dopplers are external though, and doctors don’t typically use them until 12 weeks because it’s difficult to get audio externally until that point. if you buy your friend a doppler, it won’t be able to be used until probably the second trimester, ideally after 16 weeks. for this gift, i highly recommend getting one that doesnt require apps or programs, and you should include a tube of echo gel, aloe gel, or aquaphor, whichever clear moisturizing gel you think bff might prefer, because any doppler needs gel to function and its best to get smth you can just massage into the belly after imo. this is the one i have, it’s on loan from a friend so i hafta give it back but i like it since its the plug-n-play type lol. but remember, dopplers shouldnt be used often, once every few days is fine enough.

a grabber! this is the kind i have, i kept it from when i was bedridden from my knee injury a few years back. i normally can’t reach into my top load washing machine, but with a belly bump, now i definitely can’t. it’s getting harder to bend over or reach into tight spaces, so having a grabber is really handy, especially with a magnetic tip! i like this specific kind because i hang it on a screw by the little string pulley bit at the end. that way it doesnt fall over or get misplaced.

grippy socks! self-explanatory. a firm foundation protects bebbie. and everyone likes cute socks!

foot bath! maybe a late-game present, but keep it in mind for a few months down the line. anything to soothe the feet would be a GODSEND right now. i already have problems staying on my feet for too long, but the heavier i get the harder it becomes! i’d kill for 30 mins in one of those fish tanks where the tiny little fish eat all my dead skin. even a small massager would be nice lol. i don’t want my husband touching my feets right now bc theyre sooooo calloused and flakey ;w;

melatonin gummies and a sleep mask! it gets so hard to fall asleep for some reason. ppl will be like “sleep while u can teehee!” like they forgot about the fucking insomnia. it’s enough to make you feel homicidal. those delicious ass strawberry gummies knock me out soooo fast now, and a nicely weighted sleep mask keeps it hella dark even when my man forgets to turn off the goddamned lamp.

white noise machine! if bff doesn’t already have one, that is. i invested in a $100 one (it was slightly on sale, so i got it for 70ish) that has tons of options, i prefer brown noise the most, white and pink noise r too sharp for me. it’s even got an alarm function! i adore it and it helps us sleep because i get distracted by every bump in the night, especially with cats. and if bff doesnt like it, baby absolutely will! white noise is most of what they hear in the womb from bodily ambiance so they’re already used to it.

thats all i can think of right now, i probably included things that lots of people think of already, but i just included stuff i don’t think about until i need it lol

Do you have any new authors you’ve been blown away by recently?

hello, anon!! yes! I do! unfortunately though because I myself am one of the ‘newer’ writers in the fandom most of the amazing blogs on here aren’t as new to me as they might be to you, but still—

the first one that comes to mind is @chaotic-noceur, she’s just started writing and is completely blowing me away with her talent. I couldn’t believe she was just starting out! if you love wolffe, she is a must read. also she’s so humble (and this is completely me being vain bc she’s so talented but) she kinda reminds me of me when I first started out in the sense that I know she will blow up and get so much of the love that you guys so generously give me.

@afogocado is very well known already and has been writing for longer than I have so it wouldn’t at all be accurate to call her ‘new’ but since I have been a dum-dum and not gotten around to her masterlist until now, she’s technically new to me. I’ve just started her professor!kenobi au and I’m in love with every little detail!

if you like more aus, I highly, highly recommend @solaena and her FBI agent pieces! I was so hooked when the first part came out and was so excited after the second half was released. her writing is so good that even when she only posted a sneak peek of the final chapter I went crazy..

I just realized I wasn’t following her until I looked her up to tag her in this so big whoops but @arsonistvoyager is starting out on the star wars fandom and her rex insert features a reader that was formerly pong krell’s padawan....when I tell you I was shocked by that concept, bruh. so creative and I’m excited to read more

and my good friend @thesith is another new-ish writer that I both love and adore! I know she’s working on some good stuff for vader for any metalboi fans, but also has some steamy tension-y pieces for anakin and obi that impress me so much because I for one am not sure if I could even write one line of smut I’m too scared to try

there are many more writers that are so fantastic but technically I am ‘younger’ than them tenure-wise so i didn’t want to mislabel anyone, but I hope these are enough to quench your rising-author thirsts! thank you for entering the chat ☺️

I always get a super big kick seeing how the fandom stitches together all the different Britcom shows together. I really loved the idea of Jeremy and Anne being Rick's parents, just thinking of babby Wick snuggled in his Dad's fuzzy jumper is too cute for words. Reddie being Rivyan's gross uncles I love too. You recced a fic where Alan and Vyv were cousins and at first I was all 'huh?' but then I was oh they do have basically the same surname! 😆
