what does Roisia think about Raphael?
Tumblr media
I am trying so, SO hard not to let my own opinions of Raphael (love him 10 outta 10 quite possibly my favourite NPC) colour how my character would feel about him. I suppose the very least I could say was that Roisia genuinely enjoyed the poetry? The rest—the overt scheming and manipulation to amass power and souls, the enslavement and torture of the soulless, so on and so forth—she could do without. And, if I'm stretching it, perhaps she did grow rather fond of his smarmy face.

My Elderly Mother Plays Baldur's Gate: Part 4
If you're not up to date on the saga, my mom is having me play Baldur's Gate 3 on her behalf because she has trouble using controllers/keyboards but still wants to "smooch the wizard boy." She is playing a neutral good wood elf druid; this is a detailed account of her crimes. Part 1 & 2 Part 3
Hey, everybody! Thanks to everyone who followed my blog to keep up with my mom's adventures. Also, shout-out to whoever called my mom "Crime Mom" last time I posted about this; she really got a kick out of that. We played for a full day yesterday so we could really get into Act III and make some progress.
Here are the atrocities she committed during yesterday's play session:
My mom is very pissed that she cannot keep Myshka the white cat. When she found Myshka, she told him that she was his mother because of course she did. Naturally, Myshka started following her around the city after that, and she was SO thrilled about it. However, when we went back to camp to trade out a companion and immediately came back to the city, the cat wasn't following her anymore, and my mom was so fucking upset. ("That boy thinks I'm his mother and I LEFT HIM! Why can't I take my son back to my camp with us?") My mom told me to tell my "tumblr friends" that Myshka should be able to join our camp like Scratch and the owlbear cub. So, if any of you guys are from Larian—take notes, I guess. My mother demands a cat son.
Upon seeing Mystra for the first time in the Stormshore Tabernacle cutscene, my mom immediately said in the bitterest voice imaginable, "I'm prettier than her." She is, of course, right. Fuck Mystra, all my homies hate Mystra.
When we found the Hag Survivors Group, my mom asked me if she could try combat for the first time, and she actually started to get the hang of it. ("Left bumper, mom. No, that's the trigger. BUMPER. Other left. There you go.") However, she didn't fully understand what "area of effect" meant and decided to cast Fireball ("Ooh, I've always wanted to use that one!") in an enclosed space before I could stop her. She instantly incinerated Mayrina, the floorboards, and the paladin, Adrielle. I was so fucking proud of her but also laughing so hard I was nearly in tears. She had me reload the save for her.
My mom returned the stolen money to the Counting House's head banker, then asked me to rob the rest of the building on our way out. When I asked her about the logic of this particular decision, she said, "We're saving the city from mind flayers, so these funds are really going back into the local economy when you think about it. We're a great cause!" I have no idea why she didn't just keep the stolen pouch of money in the first place. We wasted so many scrolls and Arrows of Transposition to get everything out of those vaults.
She was FURIOUS when she found out Auntie Ethel wasn't actually dead. My dad called in the middle of the day to check in on dinner plans and mom kept him on the phone for at least ten minutes while she ranted about hags who "should stay dead when they're told to."
My mom adores Jaheira. The two of them are very similar to each other, so I think she gets a kick out of seeing Camp Mom do Camp Mom things that she would do if she were actually in the game. My mom also loves Minsc and Boo. TASTE.
Don't know how soon my mother will come back for another play session, but I'll keep you guys updated whenever I can! She has already asked me if I would DM a D&D session for her retired friends, so I'm trying to find time to do that. Maybe I'll do some updates on that if we get it going.
Thank for everyone's support! Crime Mom and I appreciate it.

if you are genuinely out there claiming that gale "succeeded" in everything he "wanted" by becoming a god and that's why it's a good ending for him, you truly are a testament to the slow and steady death of media literacy congrats lmao

Thoughts that struck me today:
Who the BG3 Companions favorite Sailor Scouts would be.
Lae’zel: Luna. Sure, you can tell her that Luna is not a scout, but Lae’zel will point out that Luna’s easily the best strategist, has the most knowledge of their (initial) situation, and trains all of the other incompetents around her. It’s probably best not to argue with her on this point.
Shadowheart: Sailor Saturn. The started-semi-evil scout who needs a reboot to get away from the evil that raised her, AND she’s devoted to purple. Easy choice.
Astarion: Sailor Mars. She’s fashionable and not about to take shit from anyone—even their so-called leader. Also, they both have a bit of a habit of putting on airs.
Wyll: Sailor Venus. They both had superhero careers before hooking up with their current crew. Wyll loves big romantic gestures, and Venus is the Guardian of Love.
Gale: Tuxedo Mask. Originally, I was going to say Mercury because they’re both complete nerds (affectionate). But then it struck me how many times Mamoru tries to do what he thinks is The Right Thing and it blows up in his face. Like a giant hungry orb in his chest.
Karlach: Sailor Jupiter. Taller than her other friends? Expelled from her old school because people thought she was a scary bully? Been on her own forever after losing her parents? Loves flowers and is actually an enormous softie? I rest my case, your honor.
Halsin: Sailor Mercury. I think he would appreciate her connection with water, her steady devotion to trying to become a doctor, and her general quiet and kind nature.
Jaheira: Sailor Pluto. Stuck being the person with all the responsibility for such a long time, but still somewhat apart from those she wishes to protect. Both the Mom That Shows Up for the weird little used-to-be-evil kid.
Minsc: “They fight for love and justice? Minsc and Boo will readily call ANY of them friends!”
Bonus Round:
Dame Aylin: Sailor Moon. Provided it’s later in the story, because she can’t stand Usagi’s whining to start. Basically, Aylin likes shouting along with IN THE NAME OF THE MOON, I WILL PUNISH YOU!
Isobel: Sailor Chibi-Moon. That stubborn streak reminds her of a certain someone…🌙🪽

I can't find the original post but I keep seeing screenshots of the one person who made their tav basically the party's dad and I love that. I love making old tavs that look at their companions and go "Whelp, I guess I have seven unruly children now" and by the time Jaheira joins in she sees basically one elderly adventurer juggling a vampire spawn, a (formerly) explosive wizard, a tiefling who only recently stopped being on fire all the time, the 24-year-old blade of frontiers, a murderhobo githyanki who was betrayed by her goddess, a recovering Sharran who was betrayed by HER goddess, a Drow who was literally an Absolute general like two days ago, and Tav is just like "My kids :)" While Astarion is pickpocketing people and Minthara is poisoning dinner and Lae'zel and Shadowheart are knife-fighting (Flirting)

400* Completed Polls!
I have noticed that we get tags from people shocked that so few people have heard of specific podcasts, and overwhelmingly these tags are left on polls that have a much higher heard-of-rate than normal.
So here's some stats about what has been "normal":
The mean "Haven't heard of this podcast" results is 75.1%.
The median is 82.1%.
(The mode is 91.1%, but this type of stat isn't particularly relevant for this data. It represents 5 datapoints.)
Tumblr media
According to Microsoft Excel, if more than 69%** of our voting base has heard of a podcast, then it is an outlier.
The first quartile (which means 25% of the polls are under this number, and 75% are over this number) for "Haven't heard of this podcast" is 67.0%. The third quartile is 91.0%.
Only 54 podcasts have been recognized by half or more of our voters. Below the cut are the 30 podcasts that have been recognized by 60% or more of our voters.
There is a loose correlation (r²=0.427) between the number of votes a poll receives and the proportion of people who have heard of it. This correlation could be messed up with outliers — that is the polls about podcasts that leave our normal audience are often ones that are very well known on Tumblr. Unfortunately, Google Sheets does not have an easy way to recognize outliers, like Microsoft Excel does. Additionally, what is considered an outlier for how many votes a poll seems to change with how many polls we posted that day.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So frankly I do not know how do control for these outliers to give a more accurate r².
If you want to see the other stats I've compiled, a copy of the Google Spreadsheet is here.
Without further ado, the thirty podcasts that at least 60% of our voters have heard of:
The Magnus Archives
Welcome to Night Vale
Critical Role
The Ben Shapiro Show
My Brother, My Brother, and Me
Dungeons and Daddies
Alice Isn't Dead
The Penumbra Podcast
Wolf 359
I Am In Eskew
Friends at the Table
Malevolent
Not Another D&D Podcast
The Silt Verses
The Bright Sessions
Sawbones
Within the Wires
The Daily
Dateline
Wooden Overcoats
The Last Podcast on the Left
You're Wrong About
Hello From The Hallowoods
Where Do We Begin
Hello from the Magic Tavern
Stellar Firma
My Favorite Murder
SCP Archives
The Orbiting Human Circus
The White Vault
*Not counting the accidental 24 hour poll that is currently being rerun (although those stats are included in our averages, it lowered the minimum votes from 168 to 135 and is an outlier that should not have been counted for some stats but I want to keep it for other stats, so it's still in the data).
**Technically 68.8%, but a) 69% is a funnier number, and b) most of our polls get between 200 and 400 votes, so Tumblr's rounding to the first decimal is already too precise to be frankly accurate.
***This chart is not actually by how many posts were made that day, but by the date ranges surrounding the queue rates. The 24-hour poll has been removed from this data.

A potentially weird idea has wormed its way into my head, and I have to ask-
My thought is that I'd start from scratch by remaking the character I have now entirely, and maybe if I have someone watching to keep me honest, I won't chicken out of making the "evil" choices, lol.
The very base idea for the character is essentially that he's a male drow who is willing to do anything anyone with authority (especially women, and especially female drow) would ever tell him to do, which would include killing Karlach, raiding the Grove, eventually ascending Astarion and making Shadowheart a Dark Justiciar, and other such delicious choices I've never made yet!

Genuine question: if you don't initiate a romance with Karlach in Act 1 is that just it? Does the game just assume you're not interested in her? I wanted to do a run where my character wasn't just tripping over themselves to romance Karlach, but now I don't get ANY romance options anymore.
Did I miss my chance?

My only other hot BG3 take that I haven't dared to express fully is that ascended Astarion is just as traumatised and mentally suffering as he was post-ascension, and isn't just a Cazador ripoff sadist, and doesn't just need care and mental help and but deserves care and mental help too
