The article "10mm Ballistic Gel Testing" by Yamil Sued on The Armory Life website discusses the performance and capabilities of the 10mm Auto cartridge, a powerful round designed in the mid-1980s. Conducting ballistic gelatin tests with a Springfield Armory Range Officer Elite Operator 10mm 1911, Sued tested three different 200-grain full-power 10mm loads: Federal Personal Defense HST, Speer Gold Dot Personal Protection Gold Dot Hollowpoint, and CCI Blazer FMJ range ammunition. The tests revealed that both the Federal and Speer hollowpoints achieved approximately 18 inches of penetration with substantial expansion, whereas the Blazer FMJ overpenetrated by passing through all 32 inches of gelatin. The article highlights the impressive stopping power of the 10mm cartridge, validating its efficacy in both self-defense and hunting scenarios.

recently i watched a youtube video of a guy designing + manufacturing + assembling a "Nerf" rifle from scratch that can shoot a dart at literally the speed of sound, which was obviously cool and all, but even more recently he did a followup video where he tested it more thoroughly on ballistics gel/dummies in front of high speed cameras. and at one point instead of foam darts they shoot a lead slug at a ballistics gel model of a human head and it just fucking. explodes.
and there's a fantastic shot at 17:22 where you get to watch the inventor's face as he watches that slow-mo footage back and realizes "oh my god I posted instructions on how to make a murder weapon on the internet"
"what hath these wicked hands of mine wrought..."

that death penalty ask has me thinking how I once watched this video by one of those usamerican channels about firing guns, it was about performing different execution methods on ballistic gel dummies and seeing the damage, an interesting concept tbf. They tested three methods: the "American" method, which is 6 rifles aimed at the person with one blank so the members of the firing squad can think that maybe they fired the blank and did not kill the person. next, the "Soviet" method, which is a shot to the back of the head with a pistol, and the "Bonnie and Clyde method", which is recreating how one of them died getting peppered by machinegun fire and other kinds of rifles. Just an excuse to do shoot big guns, whatever.
What stuck out to me was that they also talked about the "brutality" of each method and if they'd prefer one to the other. The 2 presenters agreed that the firing squad method, what they call "American" was ideal, especially for the executioner, and the multiple guns ensures one of the bullets will kill you instantly. They both agreed the "Soviet" method was exceptionally brutal, which is fair I guess, I don't particularly care, but then they both also said the Bonnie and Clyde one was great and that they'd like to go out like that? and the ballistic dummy literally got cut in half at the torso from the sheer amount of bullets?? how ingrained does anti-sovietism have to be for you to unironically state you prefer to be cut in half by a machine gun than getting one bullet to the back of the head because the latter is too "brutal"?

fuck it friday
mythbusters au 🧪
i’m sad so here is some lighthearted silliness. friday is almost over so i won’t tag anyone but if you see this and want to post something, consider if your tag!
“Let’s get started,” Athena sighed.
Chimney started unloading the guns on the table set up at the front of the range.
“Do I want to know what kind of experiment you’re doing this time?” Athena asked.
“We are testing whether or not sticking your finger in a gun barrel can actually stop a bullet,” Chimney told her, snapping his gun.
“You have to test that to know?” Athena raised an eyebrow at him. Chimney thought she could say more with an eyebrow than most people could in a five page essay.
“It’s science, Sergeant Grant, of course we have to test it!”
“Whose finger are you going to use?”
“A mold, don’t worry. Unless you know someone that wants to offer themselves up to science?” Chimney joked.
“Isn’t that what your team does?”
“Funny you’d say that, we are using a mold of my head and hand.” Chimney shot her finger guns. “Plaster mould and ballistics gel and we have a fake Chimney to use!”
“Of course you do.”
“Buck built us a gun bunker so we can test it at the studio,” Chimney offered up.
Athena looked at him appraisingly. “… make sure I’m there for the test day. I want to make sure that bunker is safe.”
“For sure,” Chim nodded his head enthusiastically. “Should I just call 9-1-1 to get in contact with you?”
“Here’s my direct contact,” Athena handed him a business card and looked like she was struggling not to roll her eyes at him.
“I’ll make sure Bobby lets you know, he sets the schedule,” Chimney said, tucking the card safely away.

Faebruary 2024, days 1-9. Experiments in learning to draw chibi Ballister Boldheart fairy.
2 days ago, I finally remembered the Faebruary drawing challenge, which I always look forward to (because I like drawing butterfly fairies), but I always forget (because it's February). So I tried to cram in a bunch of catch-up drawings.
Every Faebruary, I draw chibi butterfly fairies of my current OTPs. This year, it's Goldenheart.
But I still need to learn to draw both Ballister and Ambrosius. And I'm still testing out which of my Copic colors to use for them. I'm especially having trouble drawing Ballister's hair, from a front point of view. I keep wanting to draw the upturn at the back of his hair, even though it's not visible when he is facing directly straight ahead. It's really hard to not draw the upturn, after those years of drawing Claude von Riegan.
This time, I've chosen real life butterfly wings to base theirs off of, instead of making up my own designs. Because Ballister's comic book name is "Blackheart", I'm basing his wings off the "Uranothauma nubifer" or "black heart" butterfly. Ambrosius Goldenloin's wings will be based on the "Wallace's golden birdwing" butterfly, because that was the first butterfly with the word "golden" in its name that appeared in Google search.
The problem is that I think I might have referenced the wrong pictures for the "black heart" butterfly. A Google search shows many different looking "black heart" butterflies. It's difficult to know which pic to reference. I initially went with Wikispecies's pic, since it was specifically labelled "Uranothauma nubifer". But it's also labelled "Uranotauma nubifer, as Lycaena nubifer Trimen", so it might be a different variation of that butterfly. Maybe??? I went with the mostly solid brown wing from Wikispecies's reference, since that would be easier to draw/color. But I later found several other websites specifically labelling photos of the "black heart" butterfly, which look completely different from Wikispecies's mostly solid brown wings. They're mostly gray and tan speckles on white. So I tried to stylize a design based on the more speckled "black heart" butterfly wings. I'm still trying to simplify it in a way that is easy to draw. And I'm still trying to figure out colors that don't get confusing when juxtaposed by Ballister's skin or clothing.
I usually draw my fairies without shoes, but I wanted to practice drawing Ballister's (and Ambrosius's) full outfits, since I'm just starting to learn to draw them. Also, their regular clothes are close enough to the "medieval fantasy"-inspired fashion that I usually draw my fairies in.
I was unsure about adding Ballister's cybernetic arm. How would a fairy get a tiny cybernetic arm? Does their hidden fairy society in the woods, have a whole system of technological equipment and supplies? Does a human use magnifying glass spectacles and miniature cybernetics to make a tiny robot arm for him??? So I skipped the whole subject by not drawing his robot arm.
2/8-10/2024. No pencil underdrawings. Platinum Preppy fountain pen, using Noodler's Ink. Colored with Copic markers and a Daiso Fluently marker. Some corrections made with white-out, Gelly Roll white gel pen, and digitally with Krita.

I took my very first actual gun class today. One thing we did was test out our carry ammo on ballistics gel. Most of the class carried 9mm Critical Duty but a couple guys brought a couple other rounds.
My bullet exited out of the back of the gel block so the instructor set the second block behind it. Somehow the second block reinforced the first block just enough to keep the bullet from exiting. Or maybe it bounced back since it's synthetic gel. Who knows.
Anyway the projectile on the left was Critical Duty standard pressure. The guy couldn't remember the bullet weight but he thinks it's 124gr. The bullet on the right was mine. Critical Duty 135gr +P.
As you can see his bullet got way more expansion. Mine penetrated a little deeper. We weren't super scientific about it and didn't measure but I think he got about 75% the depth of penetration as I did.
The instructor mentioned the gel was not calibrated to FBI standards anyway so this wasn't about seeing who's ammo is the best.

So I'm watching mythbusters, yeah? It's my comfort show right now
Anyway I just saw them test the myth that wearing steel toed shoes is actually more dangerous than not b/c they'll chop your toes off. I have heard this myth on the shop floor, mostly by people who are sick of wearing their safety boots b/c it hurts their feet.
Now tbf, steel toed work shoes are a bitch to wear, they are the source of my ongoing sweaty boot rash, and make my feet swell up weird. They are not fun to wear for a full work shift.
But Adam and Jamie tested this myth, they dropped massive weights on steel toed shoes and regular boots w/ clay and ballistic gel in them to see what happens, and y'all
The steel toed boot is much safer for your feet. It provides 5x the amount of protection than not having a steel toe cap.
They did finally get a toe amputation from a steel toe boot... BY DROPPING A BLADE WEIGHTED WITH 1400 LBS ON IT. So yeah, if you have a freak accident where a sharp object drops on your foot with 1400 lbs behind it, your toes will be cut off. But it's not like it would be much better if you didn't have the toe cap.
And I'm also thinking about the backlash to wearing face masks, with most of the complaints boiling down to "they're uncomfortable to wear and I don't want to do it", as if spreading disease is an ok trade off. Or vaccine hesitancy that buds from not wanting to deal with the needle. Or people not wanting to wear their seatbelt b/c it's uncomfortable and contorting a bunch of excuses like "actually it's more dangerous to wear your seatbelt in a wreck than not" and like
Idk man maybe being a little uncomfortable is worth the trade off if it means not crushing your foot?!?!?!
This post is all over the place
Anyway
WEAR YOUR GODDAM SAFETY SHOES
#i really need to start journaling these thoughts im having about mythbusters#maybe shape them into something coherent#because right now its a lot of nebulous thoughts and feelings#im kind of going through it yall#three guesses as to why 🫠#also if any anti-vaxx or anti-mask dipshit wants to come at me with their conspiracy nonsense: you will die in seven days#this is a ring post now#conspiracy dipshits that see this post are cursed#im cursing you 🪄⚡⚡💢💢💥💥🔥🔥

Does Kid jerk off with his metallic arm? 👀
Ahhh - no.
No I have to imagine not - at least not in the canon world. It's too clunky and pinchy. Even if he was a masochist, and I don't think he is, that's sadly a bit too extreme.
Metal and peen only mix when it comes to piercings, unless you're going to put your fleshlight in your stanley thermos and call it a day 😵💫
Now, in a more modern, less Just Trying To Survive situation, I can certainly see Kid, heh, dickin' around with attachments and such for his prosthetic. ❤️😎
Heat probably makes ballistic gel dildos for him to test things on, because even if you are friends with Law, you still don't want to accidental rip yer dick off testing a machine.
... though the idea that he'd make an automatic holster for a gel sheath... that'd be pretty hot.

When I die I’m gonna donate my organs to people who need them but since I delve in debauchery I know they won’t be able to use my lungs or liver. So for all the useless shit left over I specifically want them to load my remains into one of those ballistic gel dummies and one of my best friends gets to shoot a rocket launcher at it. Who gets to do it will be determined by a series of Survivor-style tests. The winner also gets their choice of 1 (one) bone to take home as a party favor
I also want the donor team to use my tattooed skin for grafts so people can get free tattoos
#freeeee tattoooooos#tt#my company would not allow any of this but a girl can dream#well idk the donor network may….#not the rocket launcher part tho

In an unaired segment, Grant Imahara becomes infatuated with Tory Belleci and decides to create a humanoid robot with realistic female breasts based on Tory's physique. He names the robot "Belleca," after his crush.
At first, everyone thinks it's just a harmless joke until they realize that the ballistics gel Grant has been using has created unstable circuitry in Belleca's construction. During a routine testing session, Belleca malfunctions and goes haywire, attacking Grant and trying to kill him. The other Mythbusters must intervene to save Grant's life, disabling Belleca in the process.
In the aftermath, Grant is hospitalized with severe electrical burns and emotional trauma. He apologizes profusely to Tory, admitting that his obsession had clouded his judgement. The incident leaves everyone shaken, forcing them to confront the dangers of playing God with technology and the consequences of letting personal feelings interfere with their work.

Hey Dav!! :3 To try and distract you a littlw from the stress, tell me, what does each oc (anyones you pick) do to wind down after a stressful day? Do they have a confort food, a confort place...? I'd love to hear it! <3/p
I needed this, thank you <3/p
Well, let's go down the list.
Ryder
Ryder, on a stressful day, likes to go to the gym in the strip mall across town. It's got a little of everything (owned by Killian Industries, so of course it's well-furnished) and the sandbags vary from small and basic to heavily-reinforced.
He likes to head over there and wail on a sandbag until the frustration's out of his system. He's a regular, working out there once or twice a week just to keep his reflexes and muscle memory sharp, but when he asks for a bag, the clerk knows it's a rough situation.
They actually keep a few special ones in stock for stronger patrons, and Ryder gets one of their most durable bags: ballistics gel inside six layers of reinforced kevlar, wrapped in a layer of sand, all in a proper sandbag casing. Custom made for the strongest patrons, and still needs replacing regularly due to the level of abuse Ryder and those like him can dole out.
David
David likes to sit down on the couch, preferably cuddled up to Ryder, Trace, or Davina, and watch Lucky Duke until he passes out. Between the snuggles and the show, he usually forgets his stresses quick.
Davina
Davina will usually deal with a stressful day by calling up the pizza place down the road, asking for Kage (one of their delivery guys), and sending Moss to a friend's house for the night. You can guess what she and Kage get up to...
Trace
Trace runs. He finds a nice, long stretch of road or buildings and he runs as fast as he possibly can for as long as he's able. Sometimes he'll head out to the abandoned race track and really cut loose by running, jumping, and vaulting his way around the course at top speed for an hour or two.
Moss
Moss has a few ways they'll de-stress, but they usually de-stress by writing stories or reading them, usually in some tucked-away place, hidden from the world.
Luka
Luka doesn't get stressed, actually. Not even kidding, he just...doesn't. Problems roll off him like water off a duck's back, and he doesn't hold on to negativity long enough for it to turn into stress.
Olivia
She'll de-stress by talking with Luka. His insights, outlooks, and way of speaking all have a calming effect on her, so she enjoys venting to him because she knows he'll take it in stride and bring her back to level-headed with ease.
Cyrus
He doesn't de-stress, he uses the frustration as fuel.
Devon
I can't say how Devon de-stresses.
Kaleb
Kaleb doesn't get stressed, he has people to do that for him.
Zephyr
De-stresses by heading to the graveyard and spending some time with the spirits there. They understand him better than the living anyway.
Krieger
De-stresses by smithing. He works as a smith in Dornum, and enjoys it immensely. So when he's stressed, he'll smith. He's got all manner of trinkets and baubles he sells as curios on a shelf in his shop for cheap that were made from his frustrations and his stresses, immortalized in iron.
Carlisle
Carlisle de-stresses by practicing his monologues, watching the lowest-performing subordinate test his constructions, and by reading. Mostly the first one though.

Here’s the thing about the bamboo torture myth
Okay so Mythbusters finally made it’s way to a streaming platform I can watch -- and lemme just say about the bamboo torture myth, I think that the myth is flawed from the start. A plant needs sunlight to grow -- and a human body, unlike the body of the ballistic gel dummy they used for the test -- is opaque, not transparent/translucent. How is a plant meant to grow under the conditions that the myth demands as opposed to the testing phase that they presented?
Wild myth, and great to watch -- but I question their data
