I am a huge fan of when a story has a central duo, because it allows for the focus to be squarely on the way those two characters interact, both with each other and with the world around them.
And those two characters can be anything: bosom companions who've known each other since childhood, strangers or acquaintances whose relationship grows into friendship or love, enemies or rivals who were forced to cooperate-- the list goes on! It's a lot of fun to see them smoothly bounce off each other or collide harshly, and everything in between!
And, of course:
Tumblr media
Those dynamics can be applied to larger groups, whether we're talking about interactions between individual pairs of characters, team cohesion or conflict as a whole, how they face threats together... the works.

I'm really excited for @bynineb's upcoming game, Cavern of Dreams, and I love the protagonist so I just had to draw the little guy. I tried something a little different too - I tried to imitate those N64/PS1 box art renders where everything is smooth and shiny and the shading is black (though I was a little too scared to go all in with that part). I referenced Yoshi's Story, Banjo-Kazooie/Tooie, and Spyro specifically. It's not perfect but I made an attempt and it was really fun!
Please check out the game, it looks amazing!

Made this when I found out Banjo and Kazooie got in Smash!
I'd wanted them to get in for a very long time, I'm a big Banjo and Kazooie fan. They're two of my absolute favorite characters, right at the top alongside Master Chief and Arbiter (and Cortana... And Johnson... And Rtas...)
Unfortunately didn't vibe with how they play so I didn't main them, but I did still play them sometimes out of my sheer love for them.
(*Past tense cause I almost never play Smash anymore)

Hey, can someone else draw Endeavor and Hawks as Banjo and Kazooie? I would, but I'm taking a short break from art right now to play video games. K, thx, love you.

I very much appreciate video games that are made to be spiritual successors to long dormant IP, either by the creators of said IP who no longer work for their company and didn't retain the rights to their creation, or from indie devs who are just really big fans of an IP that is simply going unused. They're really feeding starving fans what they want.
...but man...
I really... really wish it was not necessary for there to be so god dang many of them...
