Hey, friends! Opera fella Alek Shrader is launching his kickstarter for the HOUSE OF BARTOLO (a classic horror movie aesthetic production of Rossini's BARBER OF SEVILLE) set that I got to design and do the art for; it's a 2 foot/60 cm-wide model of Bartolo's gothic villa, at roughly the 28mm (1/56) scale common to gaming.

You can follow the kickstarter campaign (no obligation) so that you'll be notified when it launches in mid-June.

The set comes with figures of the entire cast (each leaning into a classic horror movie type (Abrogio is a Frankenstein, the notary is an invisible man, Berta is a creepy nurse, Almaviva is a dracula but his disguises are a headless horseman, an opera phantom, that kind of thing, Figaro is a wolfman, etc).

It was a real joy to help make and I'll talk about it more at length in the coming weeks, but I'm told that Kickstarter campaigns tend to have better legs if folks are following them ahead of time, so I wanted to help Alek out by spreading the word. If you know anyone who might be keen on this sort of thing, I hope you'll steer them towards it!

A recent criminal case has shocked Spain when Bartolomé Gómez Martínez (pictured) has been indicted on the grounds of up to 35 alleged cases of sexual attacks.

His victims, all of them male truck drivers were all attacked in the same service area of the M30 motorway in Madrid. Rumors of the existence of a serial rapist prowling the area increased among the workers of the hauling companies and other users of the motorway, which lead to massive outrage when suspects were detained by the Guardia Civil yet the assaults persisted, signifying the real culprit was still at large.

Finally, a large manhunt took place on wednesday, employing some young policemen dressed up as truck drivers. Almost 100 volunteers from the Chueca neighborhood showed up at the Guardia Civil headquarters, showing a great deal of commitment with the safety of fellow citizens.

Bartolomé was caught red handed trying to assault a member of the Civil Guard and promptly brought to justice. He faces a sentence of up to twenty years if his participation in all the suspected attacks can be proven.

In a shocking statement to the spanish public television, he not only made a declaration of guilt, but expressed pride in his criminal offenses and announced his intentions on repeating them as soon as possible, next time in the M40 motorway, as it passes closer to his apartment.

Blessed Bartolo Longo

Blessed Bartolo Longo was born on February 10, 1841 in Latiano, Italy to a wealthy and devout Catholic family. In 1951 when his mother died he became estranged from the Catholic Church. When he went away to university to study law he fell in with Satanists eventually being ordained a Satanic priest. "He participated in séances, fortunetelling and orgies." The more he experimented in the occult the more Bartolo became depressed. "His life was marked with extreme depression, paranoia, hatred, confusion and nervousness." In his darkest moments Bartolo experienced visions of his deceased father begging him to return to God. Bartolo sought the help of Professor Vincenzo Pepe who convinced him to abandon Satanism. Professor Pepe introduced him to a Dominican priest by the name of Fr. Alberto Radente who heard Bartolo's confession and brought him back to the church. One day he had a mystical experience... having pondered his condition he felt a deep despair come over him and almost committing suicide. Bartolo at that moment remembered the words of Fr. Alberto Radente that if he sough salvation to promulgate the Rosary. A promise made by the Virgin Mary to those who recite the Rosary devoutly. On March 25, 1871, Longo became a Third Order Dominican and took the name Br. Rosario in honor of the Rosary. Bartolo married a wealthy widow named Countess Mariana di Fusco. The two founded a confraternity of the Rosary. Bartolo died on October 5, 1926 in Torre Annunziata, Italy. Pope St. John Paul II beatified him on October 26, 1980 calling him the "Apostle of the Rosary.
