𝐌𝐄𝐄𝐓 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐁𝐀𝐑𝐈𝐒𝐓𝐀: 𝐒𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐞
Tumblr media
@fluffyprettykitty
From one to five stars, how would you rate your writing? (No downplaying yourself!)
I would give it a solid three, I think I write simplistic and descriptive enough to give a good story out there.
What do you think makes your writing stand out from other works?
I think the length? I have lots of people compliment me on my ability to write a conclusive drabble and short shorties and poems have always been my favorite to read.
Are there any writers that inspire you?
On Tumblr, I have been inspired by the first people who introduced me to fandom and taught me how to use my writing abilities. Some have deactivated by now but my most prominent writing inspiration is @outerspacious.
What’s the fic you’re most proud of?
Oh, it has to be my Layla story. Together. In a way, the story describes everything I have ever hoped for regarding a f/f relationship, like the dream of living with your loved one somewhere where you can only acknowledge your love in specific places.
Which character(s) do you find easiest to write and which do you find most difficult to write?
Oh, it’s so easy for me to write for Sam Wilson of course, and Frank Castle, Matt Murdock, Selina Kyle, and Brunnhilde. The most difficult is Gamora unfortunately, I would love to write more about her but I feel like I don’t have enough material to grasp on.
Who or what do you find yourself writing about most?
Love of course, first loves, falling in love, falling out of love, & a healthy dose of some toxic relationships.
Tell us about a WIP you’re excited about!
Very Excited about this toxic love kind of story I’ve been brewing in my head for a while now. Something about equally drawing energy over each other without ever acknowledging they are the one you need/want more.
First fandom you ever wrote for?
Beyblade! A thousand years ago when I was a teen <3
Any guilty pleasure trope(s)?
Once again I love writing about toxic relationships using people and completely draining someone out of their emotions. Maybe to get over past experiences cause it’s fun to explore “forbidden” feelings but it’s a fun process to write from that perspective.
A trope you’ll never, ever write for.
Hmmm, I never liked the soulmate trope I guess.
What is the wildest fic you’ve ever written?
Okay not here, but back in the Beyblade fandom I sued to write/keep the diary of one of the players and it was full of wild shenanigans and insane things that happened to him every day and it was just completely unhinged.
Favorite pairing to write for? (platonic or romantic!)
Any character I fancy x me is and will always be my favorite pairing cause I write for me <3
Do you listen to anything while you write?
I try to! I got some specific playlists for some characters such as Bruce Tony or Matt and then I got others I searched for based on vibes for the story I wanted.
One-shots or multi-chaptered works?
One shot.
Have you ever daydreamed about side adventures/spin-offs from your fic? Tell us about them!
I have! I had this whole thing in my head when I wrote ‘Party Tricks’ to sort of have the reader experience each one of the Avengers I guess in different situations and a couple of other ideas that have been lost in the void that is my brain.
15. Is there anything you’ve wanted to write, but you’ve been too scared to try?
Ugh so many. I have some stories I have experienced that I want to turn into fics but I’m too shy to do it, unfortunately.
17. What’s the nicest comment you’ve ever received?
Whenever I write about Bruce Banner I get the best compliments from some lovely people who you know just get *it* get the obsession.
Have you ever gone outside of your comfort zone for a fic? How did it turn out?
I always try to push my comfort zone a little, the things I enjoy are limited so I always try to think in a way of the audience, of the other side, just look at anything a little more round rather than straightforward. It’s something I’d encourage anyone to do sincerely.
Tooth-rotting fluff or merciless angst?
Oh, fluff for sure. For me, angst is only for that one day a month when you need to feel everything, fluff is my daily dose of happiness.
Do you have any OCs? Tell us about them!
I don’t have OCs but I would love to venture into that at some point in my life.
If you could enter the universe of any one of your fics, which would it be and why?
Honestly, any fic, all are unique in a way and I just wanna get an in you know. But mostly I’d love to enter any kind of vamp au I’ve made, I feel like I’d get to know such a new and interesting kind of life.
Is there anything you wish your audience knew about your writing or writing process?
I need to write the main thing in under one hour typing fast, no distractions, just pure focus. I guess learning what someone’s writing style is like teaches you a lot about that person and the sort of the fic they choose to write. But mostly I need to have the idea so vividly inside my head before I even attempt to write it, I can’t write a sentence per day, it needs to be at least 600 words.
Copy and paste an excerpt you’re particularly fond of.
From Human Connection
He was yours yet not at all at the same time.
Until one dark rainy night, he held your throat within the palm of his hand staring down at you asking you what you wanted from him.
And you didn’t reply. And your heartbeat rose and rose.
But he knew what to do to make you talk.
And when he crushed his body against yours, you knew.
You knew how people connected.
And within the time you’d explain to him who you were and what happened to you and he would swear on his life that no harm would ever be done to you again.
And then you became one of these people you used to so closely inspect.
Then you became his.’
Ramble about any fic-related thing you want!
You need to try to write about everything you dream of, no matter whether you’re going publish it or not or show it to a friend, I think many people can write and just are afraid to do so. Fandom and Tumblr give you such an opportunity to explore yourself and your talents through something so simple as dreaming about a character and writing about any situation. I wish more people weren’t afraid although the lack of acknowledgment from the audience is draining, finding friends and good people in fandom is a possibility, and joining incredibly well-mannered servers helps you even more!

20 questions for fic writers
tagged by @justpastsaturn~!! man it's been a while since i've partaken in something like this lol
1. how many works do you have on ao3?
63! 64 if you count the random anon one i don't technically write but for which i do overly-elaborate html for a friend. and um. a lot more if we want to also count each chapter of the single-ship ficlet collection works i have as a separate work ehe.
2. what's your total ao3 word count?
heh. 772,261 words since june 2016. C:<
3. what fandoms do you write for?
these days just genshin, but in the past i did jjk, bnha, soul eater, flip flappers, and attack on titan. a number of years ago i also had a fma fic up on ffn, but i deleted it and never ported it to ao3. should still be on my google drive, though.
4. what are your top 5 fics by kudos?
//HEAVY SIGH.
sparklers (BnHA), 939 kudos
Orchid in Bloom (BnHA), 476 kudos
the diner at the end of the night (JJK), 474 kudos
Fermata (BnHA), 413 kudos
Veneer (BnHA), 368 kudos
5. do you respond to comments? why or why not?
i do!!! mostly it's bc i have can't-shut-up disease, but through the years, i've also found it to be a really good community-building exercise!!!! i'm not the type of person to get involved in fandom discord servers, so i've come to really treasure the friendly environment the comments section of a wip can foster, as well as the friends i've made because of it~
6. what is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
i am actually a hardcore happy-ending person myself, so pretty much all of them end with some sense of hope. there's a kagerou days au i wrote for bnha back in the day, though, so i guess time looping to die for one another infinitely counts here.
7. what is the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
tbh i have a hard time quantifying the happiness of all the different endings i've written, esp since it's been years since i've written simple self-indulgent "and then they all lived happily ever after the end" kinds of endings ahahaha,,,
8. do you get hate on fics?
no but someone impersonating me left a hate comment in my name on a fe3h byleth hannibal au back in may 2021. that was crazy i hope ao3 user dikhotomia is living their best life writing whatever the fuck they want after that incident.
9. do you write smut? if so, what kind?
i wrote exactly one (1) explicit fic which was literally just a 16k word sex scene bc the logical endpoint to xiao genshinimpact's character arc is that he needs to get fucked. i don't make the rules. outside of studying blorbo, though, i don't really feel any compulsion to write smut
10. do you write crossovers? what's the craziest one you've written?
nah. i'll write fusion aus, where cast a goes into setting b and may or may not try to retell the story of canon b, but i like to put the "transformative" into "transformative works" in those situations, to the point where people sometimes can't tell what story i'm basing the narrative off of LOL
11. have you ever had a fic stolen?
not to my memory or knowledge, no.
12. have you ever had a fic translated?
yes, several times!! mostly back in my bnha days, where i had one fic (partially) translated into chinese and russian, a different fic reviewed and fully translated into chinese; going even farther back, i also once had a query to translate one of my snk fics into french, but i never really heard back from that person so i assume that one fell through.
13. have you ever co-written a fic before?
i'd say yes. there's the aforementioned fic i do the overly-elaborate html for, but also back in high school, a couple friends n i sat around my computer between rounds at a speech tournament and took turns turning one of my kouhai's scripts into a bnha fic that kept on going off the rails bc i implemented a "no backspacing" rule and once our turn typing was over, we had to have our hands-off the computer until it was our turn again.
14. what's your all-time favorite ship?
let's just cut to the chase and make this post timeless: i like it when a ship is basically just MONSTER x MONSTER FUCKER. if not on a literal level, then a spiritual/metaphorical level! bonus points if both parties think the other person is the monster fucker!!!!
15. what's a wip you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
well i actually recently decided to let go of zenith, so i don't really have any "i wish i could finish this" thoughts abt it anymore tbh... i think abt finishing my html sanitizer 2.0 so that i can post the notes for it more conveniently though lol
16. what are your writing strengths?
heh. bitches love my characterization. and imagery/use of metaphor!
17. what are your writing weaknesses?
SOMEONE will probably snipe me if i say poetry, but i still find my poems to be rather stiff and overly-literal, so i still consider poetry to be a weakness of mine. and fight scenes. DEFINITELY #1 weakness fight scenes.
18. thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
for a word here or two there, i don't mind as long as it's culturally appropriate. (you will pry my dearly beloved "aiya" out of my cold dead hands) like that's just how people talk in real life. for longer sentences or conversations, then i'd like it if there are translation notes left somewhere. at the very least, i'd kind of like a narrative or aesthetic reason if the meaning can't be parsed from context alone.
19. first fandom you wrote for?
pokemon, if we're counting my being five years old and unaware of what fanfiction is! otherwise, attack on titan or my little pony.
20. favorite fic you've written?
tbh i try not to play favorites w/my fics anymore, since if a darling of mine doesn't get the attention i think it deserves, i end up having a tough time getting over it emotionally, which has sometimes led to unnecessary bitterness and resentment towards the fic or even fandom/community itself.
tagging~ @kanonavi, @cadriona, @tempests-bards-and-birds, @followerofmercy, @chickycherrycola, and anyone else who might feel like it hehe

20 questions for writers tag game!
tagged by @widebrimmedhatsblog and @hockeyspiral23
Total number of AO3 works
Nine!
2. Total AO3 word count
287,489
3. Fandoms I've written for
Empyrean and that's literally it lol
4. Top 5 fics by kudos
Violet Sorrengail's Guide to Spinning a Scandal, castles crumbling, Tales from the Airport Bathroom, Did Someone Say Shots?, and Did Someone Say Vacation?
5. Do I respond to comments?
Yes! Sometimes it takes me longer to get to them, especially if I get a lot within a short period of time, but I always respond to comments.
6. What has the angstiest ending?
definitely the present, the past, and you in between. That was the first one shot I ever wrote and I still get comments of people being iike "bro why did you do that???"
7. What has the happiest ending?
All of my fics (except for the one mentioned above) have happy endings if they're done, more or less! If I had to choose one, I think it would be VSGTSAS.
8. Have I received hate?
Yes, once, but honestly in my line of work I get so much online hate that I just find it funny. I wrote a very sarcastic response and moved on. One of the reasons I love this fandom is because its super positive and accepting, so why dwell on the single outlier I've come across?
9. Do I write smut? And what kind?
Yes, and as of now just Riorgail
10. Do I write crossovers?
Unless you count the Top Gun AU I've been working on a crossover, then no. I think trying to mix worlds and characters would get too confusing for me, so doing an AU based on another world is about the extent for me.
11. Have I ever had a fic stolen?
As far as I know I have not! Hopefully it stays that way.
12. Have I ever had a fic translated?
Nope!
13. Have I ever co written a fic?
I have not! I feel like it would be fun though
14. What is my all time favorite ship?
Riorgail. They are my Roman Empire.
15. A WIP I'll never finish?
So I will always maintain that I will finish everything I start, but if there is any story that I think has a chance of not getting finished, it's Swan Song. I haven't had the inspiration to write it for a while, and my backlog just keeps getting longer. I hope I'll get around to finishing it eventually, but it won't be for a long time.
16. Writing strengths?
I've been told that I write angst well, and that I'm good at writing tension between characters. Personally, I think my ability to research (thank you journalism) and write things as close to realistically as I possibly can is my greatest strength. Not kidding when I say I had a 15 page document of job descriptions for senate office staffers that I got from a friend who works on the Hill back when I was working on VSGTSAS and that bad boy was open the entire time I was writing chapter 4.
17. Writing weaknesses?
I think I struggle to describe movement and action in a way that isn't repetitive, and sometimes my writing sounds a bit robotic (thank you journalism). I also think sometimes my sentences can get a bit convoluted.
18. Do I like foreign language dialogue?
I'm not sure - I don't think I've read any fics with that.
19. First fandom I wrote for?
Empyrean!
20. Favorite fic I've written?
This is like asking me to pick a favorite child. I'm going to include Violet Sorrengail's Guide to Spinning a Scandal and castles crumbling because I love them both and they are both my favorite.
I'm tagging @skyfallscotland, @suebswrites, and @witch-and-her-witcher (unsure if any of you have already been tagged!)

Darling's Diary: Addressing issues and hiatus announcement.
I am done with twitter and BG3twt and will only keep my account alive to keep my username occupied on that platform. I will also be going on a hiatus on all other social media soon. My commissions will also be closed until further notice so I can focus on existing ones and take a break from fandom-related art.
I will be providing context below. Anyone who wishes to clarify thing with me in good faith can send me a DM through Discord.
I had been the target of a months-long smear campaign for speaking up against harassment, the use of Asian slurs and anti-Filipino sentiments in BG3twt, but a more recent incident that involves the violation of my privacy was what pushed me to make this decision.
A few weeks ago someone who I trusted leaked maliciously cropped versions of a conversation I had with Mr. Wincott on Twitter. Accusations of parasocial behavior based on manipulated excerpts of our conversations and months-old tweets circulated and I am too tired to defend myself on that platform.
It has reached tumblr as well. Please do note that these screenshots are illegally obtained and are spread without my consent. I also made no claims of being close friends or being romantically involved with Mr. Wincott.
I still am apologetic and remorseful of how I addressed my concerns with Mr. Wincott. However, those conversations were shared in confidence to someone who I thought could be trusted, and they never should have left confinement.
Additionally, there are malicious rumors of me sending unsolicited adult art to him without his or my client's consent. However, I have been informed that screenshots I sent to a former client of my conversations with Mr. Wincott about the matter also surfaced. They were being circulated on twitter as well.
To clear the air without violating Mr. Wincott's or my privacy further:
The former client who commissioned me for that NSFW artwork did not inform me that it should be kept private from him on written terms and instead sent a voice note that I unfortunately missed.
Regardless, I acknowledged my mistake and apologized profusely for it. I sent her Mr. Wincott's reaction and apologies in confidence as well. Despite saying it was okay, however, the former client spread those screenshots as well- which disproves the rumor that I sent it to Mr. Wincott unsolicited.
Yes, Mr. Wincott did ask me for the "unexpurgated" version of my cropped NSFW commission. He did say that the client was being unreasonable since I had posted the commission publicly and he used to have access to my R18 twitter before I locked it. I also used to send him WIPs of my Raphael art with his permission, and he enthusiastically asked to see both regular and explicit ones.
Please do not attack him or me over this. He is a consenting adult requesting to see erotic artwork from another consenting adult who produced said artwork. The only fault here is mine for not double checking my former client's wishes to not show him directly.
However, I hope I'll be given the benefit of the doubt regarding the accusations of parasocial behavior when we were clearly both comfortable enough with each other for him to ask to see my adult artwork in the past.
Now, Mr. Wincott and I are no longer in speaking terms now and my artwork for his Streamily had been withdrawn. I would like to take this time to grieve quietly about the situation.
After more than two years, the whole situation soured my love for BG3 and Raphael. Perhaps my passion for the game and the character will be rekindled one day, but for now, I need some time away.

20 Questions for Fic Writers
Thank you @xottan for the tag!!! This beginner is humbled and honored that you'd think to tag me so ended up doing this instead of sleeping.
How many works do you have on ao3?
(4) in my heart; (6) according to ao3. The first (3) were meant to be one thing, but I didn’t know better. Thought a series would tie them together as one unit more than it actually did.
2. What’s your total ao3 word count?
157,510… I have mixed feelings about this. I love writers who have an economy of words so I suspect proper editing would cut that crazy number down, but I don't have a proper editing process.
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Marvel Cinematic Universe and Sherlock with an eye towards some anime one day
4. Top five fics by kudos
By pure kudo count, the top three go to the three parts of the
For Appearance’s Sake series (Frostiron) followed by
The Doctor’s Choices (a Johnlock WIP) and
Bend Thee Aghast Challenge (a Frostmaster WIP)
but the kudo rank is nearly identical to the posting dates so with only a four month Ao3 career, I’m not sure kudos is a fair way to judge the work
5.Do you respond to comments?
I do now! @lokislonelylady helped me get over the initial comment response fear and I’m forever grateful. Writing and posting also gave me more confidence to leave comments for others’ works and @xottan was the first writer to respond at length. That was a game changer. I didn’t expect responses and still don’t, but it was nice to feel a connection (thank you!!), so now I make it a point to respond to any comments I get as soon as I can or at least before the next post. I don’t get many so it’s easy enough
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Angsty… maybe Unbinding (part three of that first series)? I was told the last part was a bit depressing before the comfort hit.
7. What is the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Uh… only 2 works have an actual ending so far… but I suspect The Doctor’s Choices will be the happiest ending of what I have in the works.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Not on the fics itself, not yet. More for not knowing what I’m doing, like tagging. The first version of tagging for For Appearance’s Sake series was a mess. Also for not understanding the ship I first ventured into.
9. Do you write smut?
Ehm. Yes. Not sure that I'm particularly good at it, probably not but I only have one story that’s not explicit/dark, and that was just for a therapy assignment.
10. Craziest crossover?
None as of yet
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not yet. It’s early
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Nope, but that sounds cool.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Not yet. I’ve never even had a beta reader… collabs sounds interesting.
14. All time favorite ship?
Great question. This one is hard. It was Johnlock for a long time. I started reading in the MCU eight months ago, and the MCU has so many creative pairings that I’m just confused. That said, based on the various works in progress and ideas popping in my head, it must be Frostiron at the moment.
15. What’s a wip you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
None. This question prompted me to go fix what I hated about the wip and so, I'm good. I consider Fools’ Scheme a work in progress. Technically, it functions well enough as part 2 in the series in terms of moving the plot along, but considering the whole thing suddenly deviated to an emotional, happy ending, that middle part really needs some emotions massaged into make it work better with part 3, but emotionss are so hard.
16. What are your writing strengths?
I’d love to say action with a bit of world building, but who knows? It’s hard to judge your own work, and based on the comments from the English professor in college… this ESL kid was barely understandable.
Realistically, the strength I can confidently talk about is speed. Based on the past four months, I average about 1200 words an hour when at a computer; 600 an hour on my phone (though to be fair, usually when I’m writing on the phone… I’m also supposed to be doing something else… like work). Makes me question my career choice (zero writing involved in my day job). With this writing speed, I really would have been making bang during Dickenson’s day where writers got paid per word.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Emotionsss. How other writers put emotions on paper is beyond me.  I do okay with fear and anger but the feels? like love and sadness? Absolute crap, and I don’t know that it will get better since the moment my writing starts down that path, I nope out of there so fast that I’m done writing for that day or it pours out of me in an unfiltered melodrama that I can't imagine anyone wants to read and I’m a wreck for half a week.
Other than that, choppiness. I focus so much on the action and plot that some of it comes out short and action, action, action without the why... this is especially true because my adhd has me jumping from scene to scene or even story to story as I write. Literally Johnlock for ten minutes, then it’s Frostmaster for a paragraph, jump to two separate Frostirons I have going on in the back, and a random Loki & Nebula that’s brewing before jumping back to Johnlock. =.=;;; my brain…
18. Thoughts on dialogue in another language?
Yesss. It would be fun to do it in the way Groot is handled in the MCU.
19. First fandom you wrote in?
MCU - Tony Stark/Loki, though it was without even understanding what Frostiron was. I must have read like five Tony Stark/Loki before jumping into writing an unplanned novel, and in all of them, Tony was pretty mean to some weak version of Loki. My fix was to make Loki a bit stronger so that he could send Tony to prison… turns out most people in Frostiron sees them together. Halfway through writing them, I suddenly realized why;;; They’re so alike.
20. Favorite fic you’ve written?
It varies from moment to moment. Literally, it’s the fic I’m working on and since the last thing I typed is Let’s do ‘Just a slave’, (Thor & Loki) that is the one at the moment, even if it was a therapy assignment.
It’s not representative of my usual stuff but I did manage to write it in a single sitting of three hours and found it fun, so I guess it counts.
***done!***
Well, that was interesting. More challenging and fun than I had imagined.
Tagging someone: I also tag @lokislonelylady, though, like @xottan says, no pressure. Don’t know if you can even write until you’re fully healed. Sending my love and gratitude either way! Honestly, there should be an amazing commenters’ version of this because @lokislonelylady , you brighten people's day with your comments! I have learned to comment just as much thanks to you.
And while there's really no reason anyone else will stumble on my tumblr, but if you do and you’re writer, consider yourself tagged! (if you want)

20 Questions for Writers
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
37
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
1,415,727 words
3. What fandoms do you write for?
I've only written for Star Wars
4. What are your top five fics by kudos?
The Tinies
In the Past
Between the Light and Shadows: Luke & Vader One-Shot Collection
Of Silk and Gold
Seduce a Senator
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Generally I do not, mainly because I feel like I don't have something to say back. If I feel like there is something to say, I'll comment back.
6. What’s the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
So uh . . . I don't have a whole lot of finished multi-chapter fics. *cough* *cough* I'm also not super big on angsty endings, but if I did pick it is between these three: The Last Mission, Traitor (which is a four part), and It was Leia. Each has a different type of angsty ending.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Stop making me pick favorites. I guess I'd go with Seduce a Senator (which a smut fic and rated E). Only because I feel like the happy ending is well deserved after everything that happened. Also I feel like Godhood had a good happy ending. But I also write a decent amount of fluff. For example the one-shot There You Are, which has a very sugary ending.
8. Do you get hate on your fic?
Yes.
I've gotten in on In the Past. Mostly people complaining about either how I wrote was inaccurate or wasn't up their personal view of Star Wars. In the first chapter (or two) I mention Anakin and Luke's midicholorian count, and I made Luke the lesser of the two. People hate that. (I do stand by that decision in that I do believe Anakin would be stronger as the chosen one, but that's just me.)
I got a whole of angry comments on Godhood and some on For A Sith to Love a Jedi. Basically about ships and romance. People are . . . very passionate about that kind of stuff . . . and hate when anything goes against their ship.
9. Do you write smut?
Yep.
10. Do you write crossovers?
As in characters from one fandom interact with another fandom? No. I strictly write Star Wars. I may put Star Wars characters in situations based on another fandom like when I wrote a Luke and Vader Anastasia AU.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of. I know I once read a fic from an obvious amateur writer whose fic was very similar to Runaway. It wasn't an exact copy, but it was clear it drew some aspects and inspirations from my fic. I suspect that writer was young and exploring writing. I commented on it saying it was a good fic. I'm not one to get angry about that such a thing that this one thing is "my idea."
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
I translate The Tinies into Spanish myself with the help of a great Spanish checker, but that's the only translation of any of my fics I know of.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic?
Yes, but they've all mostly been due to round-robin popcorn writing games we do in my server from time to time. Where one person writes a bit of a fic then another then another.
14. What‘s your all-time favourite ship?
Padme and Anakin/Vader
15. What’s the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
Tumblr media
In all honesty, I don't know. There are some of my WIPs I have permanently shelved and don't intend on ever finishing. (Mostly my old Obikin stuff.) But there are still some that I really do want to finish. I've just been unable to write.
16. What’s your writing strengths?
World building, especially with fantasy.
17. What’s your writing weaknesses?
Currently? Writing.
Also finishing long multi-chapter fics. help.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
As in just a whole scene where they're not talking in English and it's not translated into English? I have never done that. I don't think I've even seen that done. Do people do that? I've done a line or two where people will speak to each other in a different language. I then switch the words back to English so my reader can, you know, read them.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Star Wars
20. Favourite fic you’ve ever written?
Don't make me pick my favorite child. I have different favorites for different reasons. I can't just pick one.

20 Questions for AO3 Writers
I was tagged in this FOREVER ago by @the-frankenman-writes I'm sorry it took me so long to get to!
1. How many works do you have on A03?
89
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
84,067 (my fics are usually pretty short haha)
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Quantum Leap (TV 2022) (18)
Dragon Age (Video Games) (17)
Detroit: Become Human (Video Game) (11)
Original Work (10)
Dead by Daylight (Video Game) (10)
The Witcher (TV) (6)
The Sandman (TV 2022) (5)
Doctor Who (5)
Elder Scrolls Online (2)
Critical Role (Web Series) (1)
Torchwood (1)
F.E.A.R. (Video Games) (1)
Mass Effect Trilogy (1)
The Champions (TV 1968) (1)
Baldur's Gate (Video Games) (1)
4. What are your top five fics by kudos?
The Cold and Dark (Detroit: Become Human)
Holy, Holy, Holy (Original)
Her Sweet Kiss (The Witcher)
Just A Scratch (The Witcher)
Less Than Stellar Judgement (The Witcher)
(,,, people really like my Geraltskier whump fics huh XD)
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Yes! I respond to basically every comment I get, even if all I can usually manage is some variation of "sfkgjhsfkgj thank you!!" because I have no idea how to take praise but I want the commenter to know they mean the world to me
6. What's the fic you wrote with the angiest ending?
Ooooooooof uhhhhh probably the little Detroit: Become Human ficlet I did called I Will Go Down. TW for suicide XD But there are a lot of angsty fics on there so who knows lmao
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Most of my fics end pretty bittersweet but I think Hope (Doctor Who) is one of my happiest endings <3
8. Do you get hate on fics?
No, surprisingly! My fics don't usually have much reach tbf. The only time I got anything close to "hate" was an ableist saying my disabled Dragon Age Inquisition OC is unrealistic to the setting and would likely be "with their clan or dead".
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Sometimes! Usually it's abstract (a la Holy, Holy, Holy) or porn with feelings (a la A Tale of Yearning) but I've been known to indulge in a lil PWP on occasion
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
Just one! I have an ongoing Torchwood x Quantum Leap crossover 'verse thanks to @chaos-of-the-endless 😂 I also wrote a Baldur's Gate x Dead by Daylight AU recently!
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not as far as I'm aware
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
I don't believe so (please tell me if you ever do!)
13. Have you ever cowritten a fic before?
no but some of my fics were inspired by other people or based on RP I've done in the past
14. What is your all time favorite ship?
Oh don't even XD uhhhhh right now it's Jenn&Ian from Quantum Leap and Geralt/Yennefer/Jaskier from the Witcher but my shipping loves go so far back I could never name an all time favourite
15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
Family Reunion :( I've been trying to write it for,,,, basically as long as I've been writing but I can never finish it and then years pass and I hate it and think it's cringe and want to start it from scratch, rinse and repeat)
16. What are your writing strengths?
Taking an impulsive headcanon and running with it. I have so many ficlets just because I thought of a headcanon and NEEDED to put it to the page. I also enjoy angst and hurt/comfort, things that expand on already existing angst and make it WORSE :3
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
In fic writing it's definitely description. I tend to get carried away in dialogue and forget to Say Other Stuff but I think I have a good handle on it now. That and smut, I enjoy writing it but I have to be either In The Mood or shut off my brain so I don't cringe so hard I delete it all bc I struggle with explicit content and get embarassed when things I'm writing are at all Kinky bc I have a crippling fear of judgement
18. Thoughts on dialogue in another language for a fic?
As a reader I enjoy it! As a writer, just be careful, stick to one or two words rather than full dialogue if you don't have the time or energy to deep-google that shit
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Doctor Who <3
20. Favorite fic you've ever written?
this changes daily but at the moment I'm loving Something More and the rest of my Sandman fics revolving around the dream OC I made for it. I'm in love with them and I enjoy writing their dynamic with the Endless siblings too <3
Tagging: anyone who wants to do this <3

I'm feeling seasonal (for the elemental asks): Summer, Spring, Fall, Winter!!
Oooh, seasons! Thank you! 😁
Summer: How do you know when you need a break from writing?
I push myself way too hard and I usually keep trying to force myself to write well past the time I should have stopped.
But usually, when I'm feeling both physically and mentally restless, that's a sure sign that I need to take a break and do something else, even if I don't want to.
Spring: Have you ever scrapped (a huge chunk of) a story to start over?  Why did the change come about?
I don't think so?
I'm wracking my brain, but I cling tooth and nail to pretty much everything I write, because I hate cutting out bits and never using them. I also stubbornly refuse to start over unless I have to.
I wish I had a better answer here, but I don't think I've even really scrapped things in my original writing, even though I definitely should.
Fall: Have you ever completely abandoned a WIP?  What led to that decision.
I have, actually.
I had a few Fantastic Beasts WIPs going, but I decided to abandon them because I lost steam and then found out about J.K. Rowling and didn't want to be associated with the author any longer. (Yes, I did publish three fics for that fandom, but that was before I knew)
I've also abandoned a Stargate WIP with a Sam/Martouf angle because I just lost enthusiasm for them.
Winter: Have you ever written a story based on a holiday?  If yes, which holiday was it for and what was it like?
Oh boy, I absolutely have! I've done Halloween and Christmas and they were fun to write! The Christmas ones especially, because I don't really like Christmas all that much, so I initially decided that I wouldn't do any, but I did and they were nice and fuzzy, with some angsty dollops for maximum feels. I also did one of them for my first festive fic exchange and that was a lot of fun! I feel very proud of myself for how I did there.
For Halloween, it was really fun because I adore Halloween and it was a lot of fun to stick the Sanctuary gang into the holiday. I also met self-imposed deadlines, and that was a nice thing to see that I could do.
I've also done Mother's Day and Father's Day and those were satisfying to do, but not as fun. They were also a lot more angsty and they were more of self challenging than anything else.
(List and links under the cut, because I was reading some of them earlier and it probably explains it a bit as well)
Halloween
No Monsters Allowed (Sanctuary, Gen, Helen's POV)
Halloween can be hard, especially for a little boy whose family are considered monsters. On his first Halloween at the Sanctuary, Helen witnesses his struggles and the solution that is offered to her son.
-
One for the Ages (Sanctuary, Teen, Declan's POV)
Halloween night has always been a competition between the Sanctuaries. This year, to Declan's slight dismay, the London Sanctuary is at the front of the pack.
-
Christmas
O Night Divine (Sanctuary, Gen, Helen/Nikola, Helen's POV)
On Christmas Eve, Helen is feeling sad and Nikola gives her a gift.
-
Christmas Cookies (Sanctuary, Gen, Helen's POV)
There was a tradition Helen maintained over the years, even when it was hard.
-
To Start Anew (Sanctuary, Gen, Helen/Nikola, alternating POV)
Helen and Nikola slip away from a party to spend some quiet time together in the new Sanctuary and confront some things they need to talk about.
SG-1 Stories
Mother's Day
What Makes a Mother (Stargate SG-1, Teen)
These women all played different roles across the universe. Queen. Goddess. Outcast. Doctor. Wife. Warrior. Thief. All different from each other. But, ultimately, they could all be defined by one single word. Mother.
_
Father's Day
Fatherhood Does Not Simply Stop (Stargate SG-1, Teen, Jack & Teal'c)
On Father's Day, Jack and Teal'c discuss fatherhood and loss.
-
Christmas
Nook (Stargate SG-1, Gen)
Christmas has always been family time for SG-1.

YESSSSSSSSS WRITING TAG TIMEEEEE EHEHHEHEHEHHEHEEEE
1, 5, 12, 16, 19, and 20
P.S: check more of your asks!!!! >:3
YIPEEE thanks kiki sorry it took me a bit to do this
1- the last sentence you wrote
“Oh my god, her voice must have risen like, three octaves when you smiled at her. “
some luz dialogue from luz & hunter’s guide, talking about willow to hunter, lmao
5- first sentence of the fifth paragraph of an unfinished wip
“The gods of the pantheon seem to have their doubts, not seeing the greatness his uncle does in him.”
wow i had to pull this one from the VAULTS. i don’t actually have any current wip drafts (just a ton of loosely planned ideas) so this one is from like 2022. it’s an owl house mythology au loosely based off of hades (the video game) in which the golden guard gets reincarnated over and over and tries to escape. i like the concept but have no idea what the plot would be so on the shelf it will sit until i figure that out
12- a trope you’re really into right now
hmmmm not really a fanfic trope but ive been thinking a lot about crouching moron, hidden badass. specifically the variant where a character is deliberately hiding how badass they actually are by acting like a moron, at least partially. invoking this trope is like, how to make that character my favorite character 101.
as for fanfic tropes. uh. a favorite of mine that never gets old is childhood friends to enemies to friends to lovers. so many of the ships that have been giving me brain worms throughout the last 5 or so years fall in this category. *cough* sashanne *cough* narumitsu *cough COUGH* catradora. it’s the layer of being previously childhood friends and having that past pure and unconditional friendship. and then having that all torn apart and then rebuilt again. S-tier drama.
16- favorite place to write
99% of my writing is done in my bed bc im paranoid that if i wrote at my desk my parents would be able to see because they tend to randomly barge into my room. when im at college i tend to write a lot less but at least i can do it at my desk lmao
19- the most interesting topic you’ve researched for a fic
for ‘the girl, the cat, and the black hole calamity’ i went down quite the rabbit hole of archaic and modern physics concepts like entropy, black holes & atomic decay. it was very fun and absolutely none of it ended up in the fic because i was like. why would 13yo anne care about this nerdy physics stuff lmao
i also have researched a lot (A LOT) of archetypal literature, historical figures, jungian psych, & various myths (specifically irish myth) which is on paper for the persona 5 swap au fic that im never gonna write buuuuut mostly was out of my own curiosity. when i was first learning how to write i read up on archetypical literature and campbell and stuff quite a bit so it was very fun to revisit. also this swap au lives in my brain rent-free. it would theoretically be a longfic covering the events of the entire game but i can’t do that. but im gonna have to do SOMETHING with it considering the sheer amount of effort ive put into the planning and reworking all of the main cast’s personas to the point where im pretty sure ive put more thought into my picks than the original p5 writers lmao
20- in what year did you publish your first fic?
cannot be bothered to find the exact year but i know i was 13 so probably 2016 or 2017. yknow what’s funny is i spent most of middle and high school thinking that when i got to college i’d stop writing fic and doing fandom stuff in general and yet here i am, going into my senior year of college, still on the same fandom clownery that i was 8 years ago. lmao.

Fic Tag Game
Thanks @fandomscraziness22 for the tag!! 🩵
How many works do you have on AO3? 10! My page says 7 but I have some I've published anonymously.
What's your AO3 word count? 122,718
What fandoms do you write for? It's been a while since I've posted anything but when I do find the motivation to write it's usually Julie and the Phantoms, Outer Banks, or The Summer I Turned Pretty! I've written some for other fandoms too but that was a looong time ago haha.
What are your top 5 fics by kudos? (Not including the ones I'd like to remain anonymous 😉) - Fire Red and Ocean Blue (TSITP) - I Hate the Way I Don't Hate You (JatP) - Been Counting My Blessings Thinking This Through (OBX) - Something Like That (JatP) - I'm Standing in Your Line (I Do Hope You Have the Time) (JatP)
Do you respond to comments? I really try to respond to every comment, even if it takes me a while to respond! I genuinely appreciate people who take the time to not only read my writing but also share with me their thoughts, so the least I can do is respond back 😊
What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? Oof in general I usually stick to happy endings so there hasn't been a ton of angsty endings! But I once wrote a fic exploring a character navigating the aftermath of the sudden death of his wife. It ends with him bonding with a woman in a bar who had also lost her husband, and they dance together and while it's nice to have some sort of companionship again, there's an unspoken agreement that nothing and no one would ever compare to their late spouses. (Based off the song Ghost of You by 5SOS, specifically the last line!) I don't usually write major character deaths, and I actually ended up taking that one down because it was too sad for me haha.
What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? The rest of my fics pretty much all have HEAs because at my core that's what I enjoy most haha. But my favorite and probably fluffiest ending is Fire Red and Ocean Blue.
Do you get hate on fics? I don't remember ever getting any hate! *knock on wood*
Do you write smut? What kind? I do not, but I always enjoy reading a good smut fic!
Do you write crossovers? No, but I love AUs or fics based off of other books/shows/movies!
Have you ever had a fic translated? Also no haha.
Have you ever cowritten a fic before? I've attempted to, a loooong time ago when I was first getting into fanfic. Nothing ever came of it though, we were both, like, 12 so it fizzled haha. I have no idea where that person is today but I hope they're doing well!!
What WIP would you like to finish, but doubt you ever will? Back when s1 of Outer Banks came out I started working on a Jiara one night stand fic and got about halfway done. I still think about it often, but too much has happened in s2 and 3 it just wouldn't make sense anymore and I'd basically have to start from scratch.
What's your all-time favorite ship? This is a tough one! My oldest and most beloved ships will always be Romione and Percabeth. But no ship has ever, and may never again, have me in a chokehold quite like Juke did during the height of my JatP hyperfixation. So one of those three! 😂
What are your writing strengths? Ooo I love a good theme or motif or analogy and bringing everything back around full circle. It makes my little perfectionist virgo brain very happy haha.
What are your writing weaknesses? Sometimes I'll rush through the little details just to get to the main plot points. I constantly have to remind myself to slow down, a sort of "stop and smell the roses" if you will, and set the scene or create unique little character details to make my fics more descriptive.
Thoughts on writing dialogue in a another language for a fic? If it's needed it's needed! I usually will copy/paste and look up the translation if I need to.
First fandom you wrote for? Glee haha. I used to be OBSESSED.
Favorite fic you've ever written? I feel like this answer changes depending on my mood haha. Right now I think it'd have to be Been Counting My Blessings Thinking This Through, but that could totally be recency bias haha. I am very proud of it though!
What fic would you want to rewrite someday? I wrote this PJO (Tratie) fic called Rivers about 10 years ago and to this day the idea behind it is probably one of my favorite ideas I've ever had for a fic. When I reread it now, I can't help but see the writing of a 15 year old girl who had no idea what she was talking about and was unable to execute it in the way I wanted to in my mind haha. I always tell myself I'm going to rewrite it, and maybe with the show coming out soon, it'll inspire me to!
This was so fun!! Tagging @story-courty @bex2313 and @writerownstory and anyone else who wants to participate!

twenty questions for fic writers—
thanks to @kedsandtubesocks for the tag hehe and I'm sorry to everyone who has to suffer through my yapping. open tagging on this! take it if you want it!!!
1) how many works do you have on AO3?
Ninety. I actually don't think I've posted a lot of my jjk things on there, nor does it have basically anything that I had on Lunaescence...
2) what's your total AO3 word count?
262,115
3) what fandoms do you write for?
mostly jjk these days. in the past few years I've also written bnha and ffxiv.
4) top five fics by kudos
face in my hands. they're all from my mystic messenger era.... I'm too embarrassed to mention them LMAO. i'd like to think my writing has improved since then.
5) do you respond to comments?
yes!! i do my very best to respond to comments i get on AO3, and then also to comment-esque tags I get on tumblr. personally, as a reader, I get really excited when a writer responds to me so I try to do the same for my readers... If that makes sense? I think it's fun!!
6) what is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
my gut reaction is to say don't, if you value your life— but like that fic as a whole is an angst fest and so I feel like while the ending was really angsty, it was in line with everything as a whole. but otherwise idk...
7) what's the fic that you wrote with the happiest ending?
mmmm. I think that the nature of my one-shots means they tend to end on a happier note but it's all pretty equal, both across the fics and the fics generally don't have enough emotional fluctuation for me to think 'oh this was a really happy ending.'
8) do you get hate on fics?
i'm lucky enough to never have received hate fo my work directly. i'm sure someone some where has shit on my stuff in private lmao....
9) do you write smut?
not really. I can, I just don't really.
10) craziest crossover?
there is such thing as magic, which was a base kingdom hearts × full metal alchemist crossover. there were other series in it which included fruits basket. LMAOO.
11) have you ever had a fic stolen?
not to my knowledge LMAO, at least not outright. plagiarized on the other hand...
12) have you ever had a fic translated?
I think someone asked to translate one of my mystic messenger fics once.
13) have you ever co-written a fic before?
yes! me and kelsey ( @cannibalisticskittles )cowrote a modern royalty saeran x reader fic years ago. and sel ( @seiwas ) I are working on a bunch of fics together, albeit very, very slowly.
14) all time favorite ship?
uh. I don't really have one.
15) what's a wip you want to finish but you doubt you ever will?
LMAO. every day I seem less and less likely to finish & here i am alive.
16) what are your writing strengths?
dialogue. I've been told I write tension well too.
17) what are your writing weaknesses?
a lack of focus (like sitting down and actually writing) as well as descriptive writing.
18) thoughts on dialogue in another language?
I think that... it can be immersion breaking, especially if the reader doesn't read or understand said language, to the point of being distracting. Like you're switching the attention of your reader from the story to trying to figure out what the character just said. I mean, you can clue your audience in via narration, so at least they understand...
I think it's best for the audience to keep the fic in one language (not including loan words). mao's ( @yinyuedijun ) recent aventurine fic, translation, did a really good job, I think of conveying dialogue in another language. I think she used italics there... But yeah, not sure if I'm a fan of just inserting dialogue in another language into a fic...
19) first fandom you wrote in?
yu yu hakusho
20) favorite fic you've written?
don't, if you value your life

20 Questions For Fic Writers
Tagged by @elder-flower
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
32 (20 are user-locked)
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
1,238,164
3. What fandoms do you write for?
For the past five years, it has been iterations of A Song of Ice and Fire (the book canon, Game of Thrones, and House of the Dragon). Prior to that, I've written fics for Sailor Moon, Gundam Wing, Kingdom Hearts, Fushigi Yuugi, High School Musical, RENT, The Dresden Files, Harry Potter, Glee, and BBC Sherlock.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
the gather, the bend, the bringing forth (Game of Thrones S8 canon divergence)
some nights the lighthouse, some nights the sea (transatlanticism) (Game of Thrones S7 canon divergence)
the silhouette of a single memory (Game of Thrones reincarnation AU)
all the ground beneath with tears and blood (Game of Thrones/The Vampires Diaries fusion)
where ruin also exists (A Song of Ice and Fire, post-ADWD)
5. Do you respond to comments?
I try to!
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Even before I started writing in the ASOIAF fandom, I did tend to write bittersweet endings. Loss and grief is a fascinating frame of reference for an otherwise happy ending and I've always liked being able to write about those conflicting emotions. That said, it was probably never let me go.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Haha, lmao—this is definitely the silhouette of a single memory and its adjoining prompt ficlets.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
My canon divergent fics for Game of Thrones sometimes get the rare grumpy butt but honestly, I pay too much in taxes to be bothered by someone trying to be snide behind the anonymity of a computer screen.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Sure? I think my smut is pretty tame compared to a lot of stuff I read but I do write it.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
Yes, I've written plenty. Sailor Moon/Gundam Wing and Game of Thrones/The Vampire Diaries might be the craziest though, considering how ridiculously dissimilar the two canon sources are.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
the gather, the bend, the bringing forth has its beginning chapters translated into Russian here
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Yes and no. My old RP partner @lyrangalia and I used to email RP during slow days at work and through that was born the AMD and Silvered Lightning universes. But since these technically never started as fic, then it's kind of in that weird uncategorized space.
14. What’s your all time favourite ship?
All time? I'm not sure if I have a single one that takes the top spot. I've liked Tomberly (MMPR), Willabeth (POTC), Neal/Sara (White Collar), Parker/Eliot/Hardison (Leverage), and Jonerys (ASOIAF) but I love them all equally.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
Hands down, Arcana. The reason I won't finish it is because I fell out of love with the source material (it didn't age well) and the author of said source material (he's kind of an asshole!). I do still love the character that this fic revolves around and it's removed enough from the source material that I could finish it but...
16. What are your writing strengths?
Characterization and dialogue, probably? Who knows.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Characterization and dialogue, lmao.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
Eh. It can be done and I've done it a few times honestly. I don't make a habit of it because it's just a bit of a headache to translate.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Sailor Moon.
20. Favourite fic you’ve written?
Based on re-readability? a silhouette of a single memory and where ruin also exists
No pressure tags: @jellybeanficwriter @moondancer71 @zavocado @kiaxet @luthien-under-bough @calenlily

No official wordcount today. Instead you get new chapter of TKB 2nd chance! I feel it's the least I can do to commemorate the One Year passing of our beloved fandom creator, Kazuki Takahashi. Without his imagination, fics like mine wouldn't exist.
I have drifted away from the prior title I came up with. It was good, but just didn't feel like it related enough to this particular story. New title that I feel fits far better. It's a line from 'Scars' by Papa Roach. The song in general fits the tone of several characters in the story.
Also, I am going to bump the rating to Mature+, mainly for language and possible content. If I make it to the end and feel that I managed to keep things within the realm of Teen+, then I'll drop it back down. I just know how I can get sometimes when it comes to describing things.
New Title: Our Scars remind Us that the Past was Real
Rating: Mature+
Chapter Warnings: Mild descriptives of burn trauma/scarring (and how it was treated), Malik acting very YGOTAS (not so much a warning, but a heads-up so no one yells at me for playing off that scene...you know the one)
Summary: Imagine waking up, and everyone is trying to convince you that the things you 'remember' never happened, and that those 'memories' exist only in YOUR head. The Thief King doesn't have to imagine...because that's exactly what happened. -or- The Thief King get's a second chance at life (Yay! I came up with a summary! Still a WiP, but it works for the time being.)
Wordcount: 1653
Chapter 3 below the cut!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Chapter 3: Scars ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Bakhure gave an impressed whistle to his surroundings.
“We’re fucking loaded, aren’t we?” he asked as Atem led them through the halls of their manor.
“Better off than most,” Atem replied casually.
“Pha-...Atem…I think ‘better off than most’ is an understatement.”
Calling the Pharaoh by name was weird.
“Perhaps you’re right,” Atem commented as he took a closer look at the decor. “I know both Ryou and Ren looked surprised the first time they came here.”
Bakhure shuddered at the mentioning of ‘Ren’. Whether it was because of his own twisted recollection, or something else entirely, he knew ‘Ren’ was someone he didn’t like.
“Question? If I have this issue with ‘forgetting’, why am I attending school? Seems counterproductive to send me to a place where the whole point is to remember stuff.”
“For starters, it’s what you wanted. Your therapist thought perhaps it would help. Think of it as a focus of sorts. The University staff is aware of your condition, so they cut you a lot of slack.”
“Uni-...I’M IN COLLEGE??!?!?!”
Atem nodded his head.
“How the fuck did I get into college??!?”
“Like I said, we’re better off than most,” Atem replied with a small smirk. “Plus there was something about ‘helping with diversity rating’.”
“I bet they’re loving the fact that I’m both handicapped and a minority,” Bakhure grumbled.
Atem failed to suppress a small chuckle as he stopped beside a door.
“Time to say ‘hello’ to the twins, Malik and Amir.”
He opened the door, where Amir sat leaning back in a chair with his feet propped up on a table. Next to him, arms folded across his chest, stood Malik. They appeared to be in the middle of some sort of argument that had been interrupted by Bakhure and Atem stepping into the room.
Malik glared at Bakhure. “Before you say anything: ‘yes’ I’m a boy, ‘no’ I'm not gay, ‘yes’ I’m sure.” He pointed sharply to Amir. “He’s the gay one. Not me.”
‘GAY’ Amir mouthed while poking a subtle finger in Malik’s direction.
“I saw that!” Malik shouted while rounding on Amir, fist pulled back in preparation to strike.
“You’re not?” Bakhure questioned, feigning disappointment. “So that steamy make-out session didn't really happen?”
Malik’s gaze slowly turned back towards him, eye twitching. “No. It didn't.”
Bakhure had to fight hard to suppress the grin that wanted to form. He'd made that part up, but based on Malik’s reaction, it had. He was going to have a lot of fun with that bit of info.
“Oh, sorry. Gets a little jumbled in here,” he said while tapping a finger on the side of his head.
“Yes. It does,” Malik replied through gritted teeth.
“So, from what I’ve gathered Amir is security or something…but what about you?” Bakhure questioned, gesturing a finger towards Malik as he tried to piece things together.
“I’m just extremely annoyed at having to go through this bullshit on a near-weekly basis,” Malik stated in a blunt manner.
“The Ishtar family has always worked closely alongside ours in one way or another,” Atem explained, subtly glaring at Malik.
Malik scoffed. “That's the polite way of saying 'we work for you'...meaning I do shit to make your life easier. Honestly, that’s all you need to know about me.”
The smallest hint of a smirk formed on Bakhure’s face. "Wow, you seem to have a lot of pent up anger. Maybe you should see someone about it," he teased. "They can probably help with your closet situation too."
Malik puffed up, taking offense to the jest. "I don't need to see some quack like you do! And I don't need fashion advice!"
Atem covered his face while letting out an exasperated sigh. “Every. Single. Time.” He lowered his hand while releasing another heavy sigh. “Could you please refrain from antagonizing Malik?”
Bakhure revealed the grin that he’d kept hidden. “Sorry. It’s just too easy. He’s exactly the person I remember. Maybe next time I ‘forget’, you should send him in first.”
“Why? So you can bury your fist in my face again? I don’t think so,” Malik replied bitterly. “Amir can have that pleasure.”
Bakhure opened his mouth to retort when a very tense Atem grabbed him by the shoulders and directed him towards the door. “I think that’s enough re-introduction. Let’s go find Rishid.”
Once they were back in the main hall, and the door closed behind them, Atem relaxed. As before, he motioned for Bakhure to follow.
“For the duration of your current ability to remember, I am begging you, do not antagonize Malik. His mood towards you has been extremely sour these past few months."
“For someone that works for us, I’m surprised you let him speak to me like that.”
“Like you, Malik has some special circumstances that allow him a reprieve on his behavior,” Atem explained.
“You mean with how he’s obviously so far in the closet he’s become a Queen of Narnia?”
Atem shook his head, obviously trying to hide his amusement of Bakhure’s phrasing. “I'm not familiar with that reference, but I get the idea of its meaning. You must understand that it’s not something that is approved of back home. If he chooses to deny it, that is on him. Personally, I could care less about another person's romantic preferences. It harms me none."
“So then what are his ‘special circumstances’?” Bakhure questioned.
“You weren’t the only one who was badly injured in the attack. Malik got trapped beneath burning debris and was flown to the same hospital as you. He had to endure having skin permanently grafted across his back, and had to go through months of physical therapy just to be able to move without being in immense pain. That reminds me, under no circumstances are you to ever touch his back. And do not ask to see it. Do I make myself clear?”
The seriousness of Atem’s tone told Bakhure that this was something he shouldn’t press his luck with. “Like crystal,” he replied.
“Good. Here’s the kitchen. Hopefully Rishid is in a decent mood.”
Atem pushed the door aside to reveal a mostly bald man with a ponytail. He appeared to be busy stirring whatever was on the stove as he peeked an eye back towards his guests. The disfigurement that ran down the left side of his face gave Bakhure an idea on how his mind had conjured up Rishid’s brands. Seeing the scarring, he imagined Malik’s own ‘brand’ was probably even worse in appearance.
“I see it’s that time again,” Rishid stated in a casual manner.
Atem nodded. “Unfortunately. Though this time he is familiar with faces and names…for the most part.”
Rishid gave a slight nod of understanding. “That’s a good thing.” He returned his focus to the task before him.
“Is fattah still on the menu?” Atem questioned.
“I managed to obtain some fresh cuts from the local butcher this morning. Seems a shame to let quality ingredients sit because of something no one has any control over,” Rishid replied.
Bakhure leaned close to Atem to privately ask him a question. “I keep drawing a blank. What’s ‘fattah’?”
“Spiced lamb, or sometimes beef, along with vegetables that are boiled. It’s then served over rice and toasted pita, along with a garlicky tomato sauce. It’s your favorite,” Atem replied back quietly.
“I believe it. That description alone sounds right up my alley,” Bakhure commented.
“Rishid is an amazing cook and he puts a lot of thought into each meal. He even takes the time to prepare meatless alternatives for Isis and Malik.”
“Your compliments are flattering,” Rishid stated in an amused tone, having obviously overheard the not-so-quiet conversation. “I’ve had to go through a lot of trial and error to get this good.”
Atem chuckled lightly. “Yes, you very much have. I still remember your cooking from when we first arrived here. It was…edible at best.”
“He hasn’t always been a chef?” Bakhure questioned.
Atem shook his head. “Rishid used to work alongside Mahad. Like you and Malik, he was also injured, though not nearly as badly. He sustained minor burns to the left side of his face, but his vision on that side became impaired. He retired from security and became our chef instead. Honestly, Mahad was more than enough at the time, so it helped Rishid to feel useful. Then you came out of your coma. It wasn’t so bad at first, as you weren’t entirely ‘present’. It’s when your mind started becoming more and more active that I felt it was necessary to have a second security member again. Rishid suggested Amir, who was more than happy to take on his step-brother’s former role.”
“Damn. Does everyone in this house have a sad tale? I’m almost afraid to ask what tragic backstory Isis has…or anyone else I haven’t met for that matter,” Bakhure stated.
“Isis is all that’s left for re-introduction, other than Mahad.”
Bakhure counted on his fingers as he mentally listed off everyone. “Seven? There’s just seven people in this whole manor?”
Atem lowered his gaze to the floor. “...yes…”
“Are the rest just stuck back in Egypt or something?”
“...or something…” Atem quietly choked.
Dawning realization flooded over Bakhure. “...oh…”
A part of him hoped there wouldn’t be any more parallels than what he’d already come across, but it seemed that the more he learned, the more he encountered. At the moment, he wasn’t entirely certain which ‘reality’ was real: This one, or the one he remembered. The one he remembered was one he most definitely wished he could forget…but this one wasn’t looking too promising either. It was hard to decide which he preferred at the moment.
“Can I-...Can I go back to my room now. My head’s starting to hurt again,” he lied.
Atem nodded, saying nothing as he motioned for Bakhure to exit the kitchen ahead of him.
Fic author interview! Thank you @vampirenaomi for the tag! I'm a bit late to the party, sorry.
Tagging @crimetimesteadicam, @dandunn and @carriagelamp!
1 How many works do you have on AO3?
I have 48 works there, and there's a few (including my very first long fic and very first NaNoWriMo novel) that are only on Fanfiction.net.
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
562,503 words total. To be honest, considering the amount of long fics I've written, I'm a little surprised it isn't higher, but also I'm bad at estimation.
3. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Treasures of time - JigLup one-shot, emotional angst with a happy ending (221 kudos)
Up in the mountains - JiGoe getting together (197 kudos)
In the middle Part 2 - Polygang getting together (150 kudos)
We are beginning - Goemon POV Polygang fluff drabble (140 kudos)
How to make a gunman snap - JigLup not-quite-porn-without-a-plot one-shot (133 kudos)
It's mostly one-shots and old-ish long fics, which I am a bit surprised about - but then again, they have had more time to collect kudos.
4. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I do! Unless a comment is just two words and I don't know what to answer, I always reply, at least to say thank you.
5. What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
I don't really write angsty ending. The closest to an angsty ending would be Adieu (a Netflix Lupin alternate ending one-shot).
EDIT I forgot about my entire MorMor period skjlsjkldjkl so yeah my angstiest fic is Bang Bang, a MorMor post-Reichenbach one-shot based on the song by Nancy Sinatra.
6. What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?
They all end well, so I can't really designate a specific one.
7. Do you write crossovers?
I've written I think one crossover ever, a Discworld/Harry Potter fic way back in the day. I'm not gonna link it because it was bad, but it's on my FFnet if you're interested and you can read French.
However I have a BUNCH of AUs that I haven't written up into fics: Lupin III/Discworld, Lupin III/Ewilan's Quest, and an ooooooold MorMor (or Mor4)/X-Men AU that I did write a couple of unpublished one-shots for.
8. Have you ever received hate on a fic?
I haven't, thankfully!
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
I've written one smut scene several years ago, it was very difficult and awkward to do, but in retrospect I think the result was alright. I'm planning to try again. The past try and the upcoming one are both scenes in longer plotty fics, I've never written PWPs.
10. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not to my knowledge.
11. Have you ever had a fic translated?
I've translated my own fics (usually from French to English)
12. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
I haven't; but I did co-write half of an original novel with my best friend, and the possibility of finishing it isn't off the table.
13. What’s your all-time favorite ship?
LUPIN III POLYGANG. And all variations thereof.
14. What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?
I started a Lupin III Polygang soulmate AU fic, I really want to carry on with it because I love that specific soulmate concept, but I don't really have a plan for what's going to happen in it; and wouldn't you know it, it's waaaayy more difficult to write a soulmate AU fic for five people than for two.
15. What are your writing strengths?
I think dialogue and banter; when I get in the right frame of mind, it practically writes itself. I'm pretty good at writing pacing in action scenes I think.
16. What are your writing weaknesses?
I tend to write looooooong paragraphs about character's feelings that kind of get out of hand.
17. What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
I love doing it, and including foreign words, but I have to restrain myself otherwise my fics would be unreadable.
18. What was the first fandom you wrote for?
Discworld. I discovered fanfiction through a Discworld forum. Although to be honest, I think the first thing I ever wrote that qualified as fanfic was the begining and vague plot outline of a self-insert isekai next-gen story in the universe of Ewilan's Quest, my childhood favourite book series. Ewilan's Quest was a huge and formative part of my childhood, and the reason I wanted to become a writer as a kid. And Discworld was my favourite novel series after that, and it solidified my desire to write stories. Both series are still very dear to me; so it's unsurprising, and very fitting, that my introduction to fanfic and writing was these two fandoms.
19. What’s a fandom/ship you haven’t written for yet but want to?
I'd like to write a Zenigen fic, if I ever find a precise idea for it.
20. What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?
That tends to change a lot. Lately, it would be Become, a one-shot about Lupin's journey of finding out he's trans after meeting Jigen; and Hanafuda, my ongoing WIP, a JiGoe florist/tattooist AU where Jigen and Goemon both quit crime before they met and are trying to juggle between their new normal lives, their dark pasts, and what they really want out of life... and their pesky little feelings for each other.
I stole this from @bottleofchaos
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
71 right now! (man I've been here for a long time, haven't I...)
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
1,077,321
3. What fandoms do you write for?
currently it's Dteam (adjacent) and Tolkien's Silmarillion, in the past most notably Marvel (plus various others)
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Oh boy. First, and by a mile, we have Sign Dirty to me and its sequel As loud as our hearts (MCU, Steve/Bucky modern AU where Steve is deaf and they meet under... embarrassing circumstances), then the next with not even half as many kudos is No other version of me I'd rather be tonight (Larry famous/non-famous AU), then a fic called First Sons and Superheros (Johnny Storm from the Fantastic Four meets troubled gay president's son TJ from Political Animals), and then Cross the Line which was just a silly little MCU RPF get together fic but yeah, everything MCU related went HARD back in the day.
Everything and many others found here.
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Always!! It sometimes takes me a while but I never ever leave comments without a response over - if you see them, I just haven't gotten around to them yet. I think it's only fair - if people take their time to leave comments, I should show just as much appreciation back by responding. (That's why I don't comment on fics where I see lots of comments that have never been responded to because I just think it's rude.)
6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Oh man that's got to be the Silmarillion stories. Nightfall ending with murder and the dying of the Light (of the Trees), Shards that goes to incredibly dark places (but all the stories in that series aren't happy).
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Probably Ever a surprise / Ever as before where DNF literally life in a fairytale and get a fairytale ending. :D (Taizi and I did our best. <3)
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Not really. I remember once in an MCU Steve/Bucky fic there was a big discussion going on in the comments about an aspect of therapy in the story, but that was the height of it. It never went into hate territory.
9. Do you write smut? If so what kind?
Oh absolutely. XD Not sure I understand the question though, what kind. The sexy kind? Wholesome, sweet, kinky, dark, I've written it all.
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
I have! The crasiest was probably First Sons and Superheroes (mentioned above) that sort of founded a whole new branch of fandom at the time. The premise was good though.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
There have been several requests over the years, yes
13. Have you ever cowritten a fic before?
Constantly. XD I think 95% of fics on my account have been co-written. I don't know how to finish stuff by myself.
14. What's your all-time favourite ship
Mae/Fin and Tyelpe/Annatar (Silmarillion), but DNF is up there as well for sure :)
15. What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
The Holiday. It's a Remus/Sirius fic based on the movie and there's only ONE CHAPTER MISSING and I still get comments on it even years later and they're all so sweet and I always feel so bad about it and I wish I could finish it but I'm so out of the headspace. Maybe one day. Not giving up hope.
16. What are your writing strengths?
Worldbuilding. Picking things apart until everything makes sense. Believable character/relationship progression especially in adversary, I'd like to think.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Motivation and drive, for sure. I was never able to write big stories by myself, I always needed someone to do it with. I WISH I could, how cool would that be. But I just get too distracted too fast by other things.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
I can only write in English. German, I guess, I am a native. XD But I haven't done that in forever and the thought of it just makes me cringe.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Lord of the Rings
20. Favourite fic you've ever written?
That's the meanest question. I have so many favourites, DNF ones as well, so many amazing ones that have never even seen the light of day on AO3 for one reason or another. I think overall I am the most proud of all the Silmarillion stories because they all belong in the same universe and span thousands upon thousands of years and so much worldbuilding and progression.
If you want to do this yourself, please feel tagged!! This was loads of fun. :)
Twenty Questions for Fanfic Writers
I was tagged by the lovely @kelyon. Thank you!
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
37. Please don't ask how many are finished lol
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
1,126,833. Woof.
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Once Upon a Time (and any other Bobby works for Anyelle purposes), Stranger Things.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
One More Time, Steal My Breath
C.F.C.
We Could Be Invisible
What You'd Thought Lost
You Think You're Tough (I'll Call Your Bluff)
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Ughhhhhh. I've been REALLY BAD about responding to comments for the past year. I wound up marking ALL of my unread comments as read and just starting over with new comments because it was so stressful. Only I would turn the act of responding to compliments into A WHOLE ORDEAL.
What is a fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Yyyyyeah, see, that implies that I finish my fics, lol. Angstiest ending goes to "A World Gone Very Wrong," which was a gift fic for the amazing @toguchindraws. They wanted an open ending, so that was what they got!
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Almost all of my fics have (or will have) happy endings. I guess the one with the most nauseatingly happy ending would have to be What You'd Thought Lost.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
I mean, a pairing I ship has gotten me accused of being a racist and fatphobic. Which is kind of funny, because 1.) they obviously didn't read the fic, 2.) I drew on my own experiences as a fat woman, and 3.) I had thin people telling me that they hated and failed the Presidential Fitness Test as much as I did! And as for the racist bit... I already addressed that in a rant earlier today.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Nope. Never written smut in my life. I haven't written tentacle smut or Daddy kink or period sex or ritualistic sex based on pagan sabbats.
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
Anyelle inherently involves crossovers, so yes. I also snuck brief Rumbelle into a Hellcheer fic. What I'm really looking forward to writing is a Once Upon a Time/Stranger Things crossover where Eddie and Chrissy were citizens in the Enchanted Forest and were brought to Storybrooke by Regina's curse. It'll basically be a half-assed season 1 AU featuring Hellcheer and Rumbelle.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Nope. I don't think I'm popular enough for that to happen. Also, most of my fic is kinda weird so I doubt anybody would steal it. People who steal fic seem like they want the latest popular thing. I'm not saying "wurrrr my fic is SO UNPOPULAR" because I know it's not. Just... it would stand out.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
No, but if someone wanted to, I'd be cool with it.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
I have a stalled fic with @phoenixwrites that would be a Hellcheer/VanQuinn crossover (which is hilarious because I find real people far too boring to ship). I need to get back to that.
14. What's your all-time favorite ship?
Listen. I can't pick just one. You show me someone who struggles to accept that they can be loved for who they are, and I will ship them obsessively.
15. What's a wip you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
I plan on finishing MOST of my fics. Even the ones that have been on hiatus for over a year. The one that stands out to me is Masters of Destiny, my Dark One Belle fic. For one thing, the title makes me cringe. And for another, I had too many plans at once for the damn thing, some of which directly contradicted one another. So now the whole damn thing fizzled out.
16. What are your writing strengths?
No clue. I kinda flail at the keyboard and what happens, happens. Atmosphere, maybe?
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Descriptions. I'm not a very visual person, so I just describe a detail or two of the setting and let readers take it from there.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
I know for a fact that Google translate is unreliable, and I'm not fluent enough in any other language to attempt it myself. It certainly has its place, but I don't see myself doing it.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Sailor Moon. Cringey self-insert fic pairing myself with the creepy mopey white-haired anime boy villain. And I was Sailor Sun and I had my own team of Sailor Senshi and WE WERE ALL IN A ROCK BAND. Very cutting-edge stuff for a sixth grader. (First fanfic I ever conceived was before I could even read. I watched this anime Thumbellina movie and just obsessively thought, "what if Maia plummeted to her death and her frog and sugarplum fairy friend cried?" for like MONTHS)
20. Favorite fic you've written?
I don't think I could choose just one. I love and cringe at all my fics in equal yet different ways. And all of them have parts of me in them.
I tag @peacehopeandrats @rogueimperator @astorytotellyourfriends @staceymcgillicuddy and anyone else who wants to play!
