Robin: Maybe you can tell me what’s going on now.
Batman: I said you were on this case until we found Freeze.
Robin: But--
Batman: I don’t want you any closer to this. I don’t want you in the way. Take some time off. Spend some time as Tim Drake until I tell you to come back.
Robin: Can’t we discuss this?
Batman: No discussions. No explanations. You’ll do as you’re told.
Robin: [calling after Batman] I understand the risks I take. What’s different this time? I knew the dangers when I took this job! Just great. “I don’t want you in the way.” “Take some time off.” “Spend some time as Tim Drake.” Maybe I should hide under my bed until it’s safe to come out.

Next chunk of the pre-NML stuff, to the end of 1996.
Batman versus Predator II: Bloodmatch
Yes this is in mainline continuity. Just thought you should know.
Honestly not the worst Helena feature I've read.
Troika (Robin #14 and Tec #682-683)
I hate Bullock. I know this is an attempt to give Renee connections but I simply do not care and I hope he stays in a coma so I don't have to see him.
This does make me like KGBeast more. He's not a good character but he's so over-the-top it's fun.
Homecoming (Showcase '95 #3)
Vic's back!
This is a solid showcase for him. Not the most revealing story or anything, but he's in good form and gets to reminisce. A good change of pace from the Bat-event-overload.
Guy Gardner: Warrior #29
Apparently appearing in Showcase made people remember him enough to have him cameo. That or it's because a couple other Charlton guys are here.
Renee gets a new partner who I hate way less, which lasts all of two issues, and a boyfriend, who lasts a little longer.
Azrael #10
Vic and Shiva bump into each other at a karate tournament in Gotham. Neither of them do anything about the guy in the Azbat costume, they're just chilling.
Contagion
The first event I'm recording in full, since Renee's in more than half the issues anyways and it's part of the NML buildup.
Her boyfriend dies. RIP. Made it a whole eight months.
I'm mixed on Contagion. It's got a lot of strong moments, this is a good era for grim and moody Batman, but there's more Gotham-in-crisis to come that I like more. Hard not to compare it to the rest of NML, yknow?
Deadbolt (Tec 697-699)
Lock-Up is another transfer from BTAS. I have a lot of thoughts on how he gets used compared to how the cops are treated, but I've been ignoring that part of my brain so I can get this project done, so it's whatever. I am being normal. Tim is funny.
Batman: GCPD
Oh boy. I had my hopes up for a moment that Bullock would finally fuck off for a while and I'd get to stop looking at him but nope, it's just even heavier on the police brutality apologism than usual. Fuck this so much.
Chuck Dixon is an enormous piece of shit, what a surprise.
Legacy
Contagion but again and with Ra's Al Ghul. Not recording this one in full.

Tim’s Favorite Movie Project: Predator
Predator (1987)
Directed by John McTiernan
Starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Carl Weathers, Jesse Ventura, Sonny Landham, Elpidia Carrillo, Bill Duke, Shane Black, Richard Chaves, Kevin Peter Hall
Released June 12, 1987
Plot: When a foreign cabinet minister and his aide are captured by insurgents in the jungles of an unnamed South American country (but…we all know it’s Val Verde, right?), the CIA calls in a team of mercenaries who specialize in rescues. The hunters soon become the hunted as someone or something begins to pick off the soldiers one by one.
One of my favorites because: Predator is the ultimate 1980s action movie. Arnold Schwarzenegger has rarely been as good and has never been better than he was as Dutch, at the peak of his physicality and in a role tailored to his strengths as an actor – and yes, Arnold is an actor, and a very smart one. The plot is straightforward and action heavy without being dumb or lacking twists and complications. The characters are well defined individuals, easy to invest in. But what makes Predator a capital-A Action classic is that John McTiernan constructs the action setpieces in the film in the same way that he would later build Die Hard: each one is distinct and could stand alone as a short film; each one progresses the plot and develops the characters; and each one builds in length and intensity as the characters’ numbers are whittled down. Predator also avoids many of the elements typical of 1980s action that could be considered problematic or could date the film – sure, it doesn’t come close to passing the Bechdel test, and it features a famous f-bomb (the other f-bomb), but it also features a racially diverse cast and a female character who is allowed to hold her own with the men in terms of intelligence and toughness without being sexualized or masculinized. Predator is gritty, grimy, sweaty, muddy, and very bloody. It’s by turns bright and beautiful, and very dark. Predator is adrenaline pumping entertainment that has stood the test of time.
My relationship to this movie: I used to see the VHS boxes of Predator and Predator 2 in Video to Go (the slightly more indie of two independent video rental stores in Penn Yan), but neither cover’s art really said what the film was about – Predator had Schwarzenegger with a gun against a tie-die background and crosshairs over his armpit, Predator 2 just had a cloudy sky over a city skyline against a sunset. When I was in maybe 6th grade, someone loaned me the TPB of Batman Versus Predator II: Bloodmatch and I was blown away – I had to see what this movie was. I had heard that some of my friends had watched it at a birthday party some years prior, so I campaigned hard to get my parents to let me rent it. FINALLY they did, and my dad and I watched it on the small TV in my parents’ room so my younger siblings wouldn’t be upset. It was intense for me because I kept expecting dad to turn it off and say it was too violent, but I loved it – I was shocked by the gore and thrilled by the action. Dad actually liked the movie – “Quite a plot twist!” was his reaction (I think he had missed the space ship at the very beginning). In the more than 25 years since, I have owned the film on multiple formats (I currently own three Blu-ray copies - the original release, the 3-D conversion, and a box-set with the remastered "Ultimate Hunter Edition" disc), and I have no idea how many times I’ve seen it. I watch it every summer, when the weather is hot.
My favorite _________: Predator is my favorite macho action movie from the 1980s.
List Position at Debut:Predator is the thirteenth entry in this project and starts at number three. (I was a bit surprised it was that high!)

Just asking from your perspective as a fan, but how much of the Predator franchise is considered canon? I've read a ton of crossovers (Batman versus Predator/Superman versus Aliens etc)... but how much of the info on Predators is accepted?
It's a lot to cover on what is considered canon and believe it or not, some crossover stories create a lot of confusion and division among the fanbase. Oh, I'm sure you heard of Marvel bringing in the hunters into their own universe, pitting them against the superheroes (I'd kill to see Spider-Man going up against a Veteran Predator <3).
But for the sake of simplicity, I'll keep it grounded on the Predators' own universe, movies, and comics that tie into the movies. I'll even add in tidbits of the Alien franchise. Be prepared, this might be a loooong post XD
The most famous 'crossover' that accepted as canon (despite some fans regarding it as not) is Alien vs. Predator. Everybody obviously knows that one Easter egg in Predator 2 that showed the City Hunter's trophy collection and what do we see?
Tumblr media
The skull of an alien aka the Xenomorph. That's enough to confirm that both franchises and their respective stories are canon and linked together officially!
Now, lets dive into the WHOLE Predator franchise and the canon timeline.
In Alien vs. Predator, the story established that the Predators had came to Earth since 3000 D.C., the Temple Building Era and were a major influence to human civilization and culture.
Now, we fast forward to 1718 The Adolini Hunt and 1719 where the movie Prey takes place. This...is rather confusing for various reasons. Originally, the comic Predator 1718 was considered canon because it featured Raphael Adolini, the owner of the famous pistol from Predator 2 that was carried by the Elder Predator known as Greyback. In that story, Raphael was a pirate captain and an absolute badass, which is why Greyback respected him and took the pistol in honor of him.
Unfortunately, the Adolini pistol story changed and the comic book isn't canon anymore (*facepalms*) because of Prey. Raphael wasn't a pirate captain, just a member of the French Trappers that helps them with translation. After dying, he passed the pistol to Naru, making her the new owner of the firearm. We get to see an ominous end credit scene that displayed various Predator ships invading Naru's village, it's safe to assume that it is Greyback and his clan. He probably obtained the pistol from Naru from that point on.
That's not the only thing that changed. According to the director and his crew, the Feral Predator is said to be the first Predator to have arrived on Earth, which isn't true as evidence suggested in Predator 2 and Alien vs. Predator that these hunters all have been visiting Earth since the dinosaur era! This could be an oversight or retcon to the story. Perhaps more specifically, the Feral Predator could be the first of his own clan to have arrived on Earth.
So, Prey has a few changes and possible retcons (still a badass and awesome movie ^_^ b).
We move forward into the modern era and this is from what I believe was the Alien vs. Predator novel. Charles Weyland written a report about what happened to the Norwegian whaling station before the events of Alien vs. Predator.
By 1904, a successful Norwegian whaling station was operating out of Bouvet Island off the Antarctic coast. According to the controversial Charles Bishop Weyland report ("Alien vs. Predator"), on an unknown date, the settlement claimed to experience a number of mysterious events that ranged from unidentifiable lights in the sky to unusual seismic activity. The Weyland report claims that the whalers eventually retrieved an object from the ice — a metal pod that released a Yautja.
The report further claims the Yautja annihilated the whalers along with a number of Xenomorph drones that had been somehow released from the alleged temple, long since frozen in the ice. The entirety of the Weyland report remains in doubt, and there is no physical evidence to support that the 1904 desertion of Razorback was due to localized intergalactic conflict. It may be possible to re-open this investigation as a tragic mass hysteria incident such as the Smalls Lighthouse disaster or the 2016 clown panic.
Now we go into the events of the first Predator movie and lets assume the movie release date years are the same as the in-lore dates.
1987- The Guatemalan Slaughter (Predator)
We all know the story of Dutch and his team of mercenaries. This is the first Predator in history to take on modern day soldiers. Prior to the events of the movie, the hunter already killed off another team of soldiers before Dutch and his friends arrived in the jungle. So, this Predator must’ve been hunting for a while.
After successfully defeating the Predator, Dutch survived, but his involvement to the Predator franchise doesn’t end there.
1990 - The Los Angeles Wave (Predator 2)
Another hunter enters the hunting grounds, the City Hunter and this introduces the group known as the OWLF (Other Worldly Life Forms program). Peter Keyes and the organization were secretly investigating the 1987 incident with little help from Dutch. So the OWLF have been dealing with aliens, most especially the Predators/Yautja for a while. The organization expressed great interest and admiration for the Predators’ advanced technology and wanted it for themselves. This obsession over the hunting tech is probably one of the main reasons why hunters NEED to activate the wrist bomb should they fail their hunt or if they are in critical condition to continue. So the OWLF was presented as a major threat to the Yautja species.
Unfortunately for Keyes, the OWLF soldiers were picked off by the City Hunter due to the Predators’ different vision modes from their biomask. So at that moment, the OWLF probably underestimated the Predators and assumed from limited intel that they can track your heat signatures. Secondly, Predators demonstrated from that point that they’re very adaptive to their environment and they are always advancing their technology.
2004 - The Weyland Report and Gunnison Incident (Alien vs. Predator and Requiem (2007, but in lore it takes place in 2004) )
In this timeline, we are now in the events of Alien vs. Predator. With the true identity of Charles Bishop Weyland in doubt, much of the rest of the 2004 incident is questionable because the Weyland-Yutani history is unclear and the actor Lance Henrikson played different people with the last name Weyland, good lord...it hurts my head. That’s one of the few reasons why fans express doubt that AVP is canon, despite the connections and evidence given.
Anyway, the AVP story...
Independently wealthy, Weyland gathered a small crew of experts from a variety of fields to investigate the Bouvet Island "temple" location ("Alien vs. Predator").
Upon arrival at the ruins of Razorback Station, this field team, along with Charles, claimed to enter the temple via a tunnel alleged to be of recent Yautja creation.Inside the temple, the team entered a conflict between Yautja and the reawakened Xenomorphs. Weyland is alleged to have died in the temple to help other field team members to escape. One survivor, Lex (Sanaa Latham), claims to have allied with the Yautja to push back a possible Xenomorph escape. With the temple and its Xenomorph queen destroyed, the alliance was successful. There is no clear evidence of Weyland's actual goal. However, a diagnosis of terminal lung cancer may have been a factor in his actions.
It’s unknown what happened to Lex after the events. Lex's story is uncorroborated, though OWLF later recovered a Yautja-style bone spear. Once again, the OWLF is involved!
Next, Requiem and the events take place in the same year of the first film.
The mystery of Charles Bishop Weyland is compounded by the involvement of someone who claims to be a Ms. Yutani (Françoise Yip), who may have also released the initial Razorback Station report. Miss Yutani's secondary report alleges that a further situation arose from the Bouvet Island temple encounter, involving a mutated Yautja, or rather a Predator with Xenomorph characteristics.
This chaotic and generally unreliable report suggests that not only was the town of Gunnison, Colorado, at the mercy of a Yautja attempting to contain this "Predalien" situation but that it went out of control so far as to require a scorched earth response from the United States military. To date, there is no confirmed tactical nuclear response — much less on U.S. soil — and no global radiation reading to suggest the Gunnison event happened. In truth, this situation may be best explained as a false flag report left as a watermark to trap an agent selling confidential documents with the event taken out of context by conspiracy theorists.
2010 - The Game Preserve Abduction (Predators)
The introduction of Bad Blood Predators and different Predator species. Through unknown circumstances, a team of highly trained killers with vastly different origins were abducted by several hunters and placed on another planet that takes on the likeness of Earth’s jungles (and hilariously enough, this literally blew my mind XD).
When the group encountered a Yautja that is tied to a tree, Isabelle, one of the Elites, recognized the alien and referenced the 1987 Guatemalan massacre and Dutch’s survival. Originally, the film crew had the idea of bringing Dutch back into the movie as the most experienced member, but supposedly Arnold had other plans going on and the film likely would cause schedule issues.
Oh yeah, everything is all coming together. It’s all making sense. Now we’re talking.
2018 - Precursor to alleged invasion threat
As much as I don’t care for this movie, I unfortunately need to include it because it expands more on the Predators and the entire franchise. Anyway, The Predator...
Once again, the annoying and stubborn OWLF is BACK! OWLF's later reports of an incident within an unidentified U.S. suburb ("The Predator," 2018) do not leave investigators with a clear understanding of events. What is known is that a Yautja landed near an active military operation, getting into conflict with soldier Quinn McKenna.
During this time, the OWLF is replaced by another organization that is more intent on studying the Yautja. Meet...Stargazer! Stargazer is the new and better OWLF! Who is the man in charge of the operations? Meet Sean Keyes, son of Peter Keyes from Predator 2!
The Fugitive Predator, despite killing humans and being violent, wanted to deliver a weapon called the Predator Killer to mankind to fend off the incoming Predator invasion (not really a Predator’s forte but then again, not all Predators follow the same tradition and rules.)
This film made reference to the first and second films, connecting the lore all together, despite a few errors with the dates (CinemaSins on Youtube pointed out this silly mistake lol).
2020 and beyond (2025) - OWLF Expansion and more hunters become active. (Predator Hunting Grounds)
Surprise surprise. The video game Predator Hunting Grounds ties majority of the films into its lore. It’s confirmed that Dutch is alive and Isabelle managed to escape the game preserved planet from Predators. Both characters are now dedicating their lives in hunting and killing Predators.
It’s suggested in the game that more Predators are becoming active and according to Dutch, better and more skilled hunters are encountered almost daily. This introduces the female Predators into the franchise and as said in my previous posts, the females don’t screw around, but the same could be said about the males.
The human race at this point is sparking up a lot of interest for the Yautja species. They are sending in a lot of hunters to go after people the Yautja deem as worthy prey. If we connect this back to The Predator movie, this could the supposed invasion that the Fugitive Predator was trying to prevent.
It’s unknown what happened to the Predator Killer suit, so I suspect it is ‘retgone’ out of the story or the Predators managed to retrieve it from Stargazer.
The lore can be told from the audio entries made by Dutch and Sean Keyes. It’s revealed that after the first movie, Dutch has been secretly providing information for the OWLF about his encounter with these hunters and possibly the one who told them about Predators seeing heat signatures through their mask. Dutch met Sean’s father in a hospital where the former mercenary was suffering radiation sickness from the wrist bomb of the Jungle Hunter. Luckily for him, Dutch discovered that the blood of the Yautja can prolong a human’s lifeforce. This explains why Dutch is able to continue fighting and killing Predators, despite being an old man. He even said that he feels like his younger self again.
Up until now, Dutch is determined to push the Predators back and willing to send a message to them that humans are not to be messed with. However, the hunters aren’t backing down from a challenge. I’m not sure how long Dutch has to continue fighting because after his encounter with a female Predator, he should’ve been dead, but I guess the female knew who he was and was setting a lesson and a warning that not all hunters are the same nor pushovers.
Long story short, this is what I believe is accepted as canon to the franchise, despite a few retcons and oversights.

Aliens: The 15 Best Xenomorph Comics
With the release of the first trailer for “Alien: Covenant,” fans are finally getting to see Ridley Scott truly return to the classic franchise he helped create. When it was released, “Alien” launched a multimedia saga that included movies, books, toys, video games and of course, comics.
RELATED: Darth Vader Vs. Aliens
A lot of people look at licensed titles as if they’re inferior to “true” comic books. They’re often unfairly judged as cheap cash-ins, meant to be created as quickly as possible with little regard for the quality of the product. This couldn’t be further from the truth with the Xenomorph. These famous monsters have attracted some great writers and artists throughout their time in the medium, and a wide variety of content has been created under the “Alien” banner. With that pedigree in mind, here are the 15 best “Aliens” comics.
GENOCIDE
While it wasn’t the first Alien comic book series, “Genocide” is one of the most recognizable series due to the introduction of the red aliens. Written by Mike Richardson and John Arcudi, with art from Damon Willis, Karl Story and Arthur Suydam, “Genocide” is set after the events of the movies, when the aliens have become common knowledge among humans. It’s also been discovered that the queens secrete a jelly, which acts like a super steroid when ingested by humans, so a team of marines is sent to what is believed to be the Xenomorph homeworld to capture a queen and her precious jelly.
When they get there, however, they find two different warring species of aliens: the traditional aliens and a new red-skinned alien. This leads to beautifully drawn scenes of battles between thousands of monsters, with the marines caught right in the middle. Aside from the art, this series is remembered for being the first comic to really step away from the movies and start to develop the aliens as their own species, with derivatives therein. Many of the concepts introduced, such as the royal jelly, became mainstays in “Alien” comics for years to come.
OUTBREAK
Before the release of “Alien 3,” a trilogy of comic book series was written that told the further adventures of Hicks and Newt, two of the surviving characters from “Aliens.” Set several years after they encountered the Xenomorphs on Acheron (aka, LV-426), the series tells two stories. The first deals with Hicks leading a new team of marines to destroy a newly discovered alien hive on yet another distant planet. He brings along Newt, who has been left mentally scarred from her experience and living in an asylum. The second story deals with a cult that worships that Xenomorphs and reveals that the morally-bankrupt Weyland-Yutani Corporation has one of the creatures on Earth.
While Hicks and Newt have to survive another alien nightmare and Weyland-Yutani schemes, an alien infestation may be spreading across Earth. Written by Mark Verheiden with art from Mark A. Nelson and Ron Randall, the comic is very good, but perhaps more importantly to fans, it is also memorable for continuing the adventures of Hicks and Newt, who were killed off during the opening credits of “Alien 3.” After the release of that movie, the comics changed the characters to Wilks and Billie, but to fans they’ll always be Hicks and Newt.
NIGHTMARE ASYLUM
The sequel to “Outbreak” — also written by Verheiden, with art from Den Beauvais and Roger Casselman — this series shows what happens to humanity when Earth falls to the Xenomorphs. Wilks and Billie (really Hicks and Newt) end up fleeing the planet on a cargo ship that is carrying Xenomorphs to a military outpost, because these two just have the worst luck possible. When they arrive at the outpost, they discover the unhinged General Spears, who believes that he can train the aliens and use them to clear Earth of the wild aliens. Of course, Spears finds out that the aliens are much harder to domesticate than it appears.
As part of the “Earth Hive” trilogy, this is another must-read Aliens adventure. Once again, this story was written before “Alien 3,” so it shows what could have happened had the movies gone in a different direction. Just like “Outbreak,” the comics eventually had to go back and be fixed to line up with the continuity of “Alien 3.” Even in their altered forms, though, they’re still a nice look at what could have been.
FEMALE WAR
Earth has been evacuated and is controlled by the Xenomorphs. Wilks and Billie (once again, really Hicks and Newt) have survived multiple encounters with the deadly species, along with killer robots and crazed Generals, but their adventures aren’t done yet. This is especially true, now that they’ve teamed up with an old friend: Ellen Ripley. The three hatch a plan to save the Earth, but it requires going out into deep space and recovering one of the largest alien queens ever, and then bringing her back to the planet.
With art by the inimitable Sam Kieth to complement Verheiden’s writing this time, “Female War” was the last story using characters from “Aliens” to be printed before “Alien 3” killed off all of the series’ major players. Unlike Hicks and Newt, Ripley’s inclusion in this story wasn’t fixed with a simple name swap. In the novelizations, extra content was added to reveal that the Ripley who appears is actually a robot duplicate. Unfortunately, this solution was too complicated to include in the comics, so Ripley was just left in and the continuity error was ignored. For fans unhappy with the ending of “Alien 3,” this series gives them much better closure.
ALIEN VS. PREDATOR
Dark Horse Comics decided to see what would happen if they pitted two of the deadliest alien species against each other; unsurprisingly, the result was a monster hit (pun intended). Set during the timeline of the “Alien” movies, the story takes place on the planet Ryushi, home to a colony of ranchers working for The Company. Unfortunately, it’s also the site of a Predator hunt, and the Predators have seeded the planet with Xenomorph eggs. When the hunt doesn’t go as smoothly as the Predators anticipated, the human settlers find themselves caught between two of the deadliest species in the galaxy.
Written by Randy Stradley, with art from Phill Norwood, Chris Warner and a host of other talents, this crossover would inspire sequels that continue to this day in toys, video games, and two popular (if critically-dubious) movies. The match-up might seem obvious today, but at the time, it was downright revolutionary. The success of the comic led to an alien skull appearing in the predator’s trophy case in the oft-maligned “Predator 2.” Of course, it would take over a decade for a full-length movie to be released. While the quality of the movies is debatable, fans generally agree that the original comic that kicked it all off — itself beginning as a serialized tale in “Dark Horse Presents” — is an absolute classic.
GREEN LANTERN VERSUS ALIENS
Crossovers between the aliens and other superhero comic book characters are very hit or miss. Luckily, this book — written by Ron Marz, with art from Rick Leonardi and Mike Perkins — is mostly a hit, telling a fun, albeit simple story. Set during two different time periods, the story starts off with Hal Jordan encountering the aliens before becoming Parallax. Jordan decides that the aliens aren’t evil, and instead of killing them, deposits them on Mogo, the living planet, where they can’t hurt anyone. A decade later, Kyle Rayner has become the last Green Lantern and must rescue a ship that has crashed on the no-longer-conscious Mogo. Raynor must launch a rescue to the planet’s surface, where he encounters the perennially ill-tempered Xenomorphs.
This story doesn’t fit into continuity, but that actually works in its favor. It’s made abundantly clear pretty early on that characters can be killed off, and several of the Green Lanterns involved don’t survive their encounters with the titular aliens. As far as Alien appearances in the DC universe, this is one of their better showings. At least there’s no appearance by the Joker/Alien hybrid from “Batman/Aliens 2.”
MUSIC OF THE SPEARS
Written by Chet Williamson with art from Tim Hamilton and Timothy Bradstreet, “Aliens: Music of the Spears” has a bonkers premise. Struggling musician Damon Eddington has a crazy new idea for his next project: he wants to record the sounds of a Xenomorph and use it to create a symphony of hate. After getting the project approved by Synsound, the company that controls all music, a team of ninjas (we repeat: a team of ninjas) is able to obtain an egg. One of Eddington’s old musician pals volunteers to be the host for the facehugger, because he’s fallen on hard times and is addicted to a drug created by alien jelly. Eddington gets his alien, and eventually begins bringing it live humans in order to capture the sounds he needs. He eventually gets too bold, and is not surprisingly killed when he gets too close to his alien/musical instrument.
That story sounds insane, but of course that’s the point. In his quest to create the perfect art, Eddington slowly loses his humanity. He’s initially unsure about subjecting a volunteer to the facehugger, but soon finds himself sacrificing kidnapped victims to the alien. He starts off as a desperate and failing musician, but his willingness to do anything for his art ultimately destroys him.
NEWT’S TALE
One of the most surprising moments from James Cameron’s “Aliens” is when it’s revealed that the sole survivor of the infestation of Hadley’s Hope is a little girl named Newt. The movie never reveals how she survived, only showing that she’s been traveling through the vents and avoiding the main areas. This comic fills in the blanks, showing her family discovering the derelict spacecraft from the first “Alien” film, her father getting attacked by a facehugger and eventually being implanted with a chestburster.
It only takes a few days for things to fall apart, as more people keep disappearing from the colony and those pesky aliens keep showing up. Eventually, the colonists attempt a last stand, but that only leads the Xenomorphs to where the families had barricaded themselves. The series ends by recounting the events of “Aliens,” bringing everything full circle. Newt is one of the most heartbreaking characters from the franchise, and “Newt’s Tale,” brought to life on the page by Mike Richardson and Jim Somerville, really helps flesh out her character.
ALIEN VS. PREDATOR: ETERNAL
Written by Ian Edginton, “AvP: Eternal” follows Gideon Suhn Lee, who is known as one of the richest technology developers in the world, but is actually a 700-year-old villager from Japan, who once came across a crashed Predator ship. Using a combination of the technology inside and body parts from the dead Predators, Lee unnaturally prolonged his life. He built his fortune by reverse-engineering the ship’s technology, and for many hundreds of years, everything seemed to be going fine. That is, it did… until he uncovers some mysterious eggs in the ship’s cargo hold. When he accidentally unleashes Xenomorphs in Tokyo’s sewers, Lee attracts a new batch of Predators to clean up the mess.
The story is told from the perspective of a reporter, Becka McBride, who is investigating a massacre that was committed using Lee’s stolen technology. This story is definitely one of the stranger entries in the “Alien vs Predator” series, but the beautiful art by Alex Maleev gives everything an otherworldly quality that really nails the tone. It also perfectly balances the Xenomorphs against the predators, making both species feel like equal threats.
LABYRINTH
“Aliens: Labyrinth,” by writer Jim Woodring and artist Kilian Plunkett, starts off with a mystery. After a research assistant dies of a strange heart attack on the space station Innominata, the marine corps sends Dr. Crespi to investigate. Posing as a new assistant, his job is to check on the methods of the station’s head researcher, Dr. Paul Church, who is studying Xenomorphs. Also, marine lieutenant Sharon McGuinness has just arrived on the station, and seems to have her own personal agenda. When Crespi discovers how many people have disappeared on the station, he begins to uncover a horrifying secret.
As the mystery of the station unfolds, each of the main character’s backstories is revealed. Crespi is the lone survivor of a squad of marines that was testing out new weapons against the aliens. Church is also a lone survivor, only he was a colonist who escaped an alien hive. McGuinness’ backstory is at the center of the mystery, and her quest for answers leads to one of the most grotesque discoveries ever, which includes amputation, alien experimentation and of course, revenge.
ALIENS: APOCALYPSE – THE DESTROYING ANGELS
In the original “Alien” movie, the crew of the Nostromo comes across a derelict spaceship which contains a fossilized alien corpse and a cargo hold full of Xenomorph eggs. While the rest of the movie focused on the Xenomorph, nothing is revealed about the mysterious pilot of the ship (that is, until “Prometheus” was released several decades later). These mysterious space jockeys have made several appearances in the alien comics, most notably in this series, written by Mark Schultz and drawn by Doug Wheatley.
In the story, Alecto Throop is hired to find a missing scientist, who she finds on an abandoned planet. While studying the aliens, he had come across the ruins of what may be an ancient space jockey city, and even finds a living one. While not all of their secrets are revealed, fans got to find out what happens when a facehugger impregnates one of these space jockeys. It turns out, an even more horrifying alien is the result.
ROGUE
If there’s a queen alien, wouldn’t there be a king alien? Well, no, that’s not necessarily how biology works, but this series decided to introduce a king anyway because, well… why the hell not, right? In the story, it’s called The Rogue: a synthetic Alien male hybrid created by scientist Ernst Kleist to, in his words, “claim his birthright.” The result of an in-depth study on Xenomorphs, his research and his passion (not to mention the furious nature of the Aliens themselves), all drive Kleist crazy. The rest will all sound familiar: his colleagues on the base go missing and it turns out that they’re being used as hosts for facehuggers to build his better Alien.
It turns out that the mad scientist gave up on trying to domesticate a Queen and created a seemingly controllable rogue alien. Once again, the humans learn that trying to tame the aliens is impossible. To be honest, this isn’t the most creative story from the “Aliens” universe, but it is a lot of fun to watch two giant aliens rampage around a space station, trying to kill each other and anything else that stands in their way.
ALIEN: THE ILLUSTRATED STORY
Typically, comic book adaptations of movies are easily avoidable, but “Alien: The Illustrated Story” is a must-read for any fan of the films. The book was written by Archie Goodwin and illustrated by Walt Simonson, two uncontested industry giants. Goodwin created characters like Luke Cage and Spider-Woman, while Simonson is famous for his legendary run on “Thor” that introduced characters like Beta Ray Bill. With those two on board, it’s no surprise their “Alien” adaptation turned out as well as it did.
What’s so surprising about this is how true it stays to the original film. It doesn’t necessarily add any new scenes, but what it does do is show scenes from a different perspective. For example, the moment where Ripley comes across the aftermath of the attack on Lambert and Parker reveals grisly details that were left out of the movie. Seeing what exactly the alien did to Parker is an especially shocking addition.
ALIENS: SALVATION
Before launching “Hellboy,” Mike Mignola teamed up with Dave Gibbons to create “Aliens: Salvation,” one of the most surreal Alien comics ever. It tells the story of a devout Christian cook named Selkirk working on a space freighter. When a mysterious containment breach occurs, the captain of the freighter forces Selkirk (at gunpoint) to abandon ship with him, after which they land on a nearby jungle planet. When the freighter crashes on the planet, it comes as no surprise — given the title — that the cargo was a Xenomorph. On top of their clearly perilous situation, the captain seems to be going crazier and crazier with each passing moment, which is never a good sign, historically speaking.
The exploration of faith in the sci-fi world of “Alien” is the perfect playground for Mignola, whose introspective look at the outer space hell-scape is fascinating (and darkly beautiful). The pious Selkirk sees the world and dangers he’s facing through a religious veil, such that angels and demons appear throughout the story (at least from his point of view), making the implications and symbolism of the Xenomorphs all the more powerful. The combination of Gibbons’ writing and Mignola’s art makes this story stand out simply for the way that it’s told.
FIRE AND STONE
Taking place roughly during the same time period as “Aliens,” this series connected the concepts and settings introduced in “Prometheus” and did a better job of connecting them to the “Alien” mythos than the actual movie did. During the infestation of Hadley’s Hope (the colony from “Aliens”), a group of colonists attempts to evacuate to a nearby moon, LV-233, the setting of “Prometheus.” Since the events of the movie, however, LV-233 is no longer a barren wasteland, but is now covered with plant and animal life. Unfortunately, several Xenomorphs tagged along for the ride, and the life on LV-233 evolved from the black ooze in the Engineer’s ship.
This series connected with several other miniseries, all under the “Fire and Stone” banner. The overarching story brought the Predators to LV-233, along with more humans and even another Engineer. It explored the mutating black ooze from the “Prometheus” movie and how it would interact with the Xenomorphs. All in all, this event series actually succeeded in making “Prometheus” feel like it belonged in the “Alien” universe, which is something that was desperately needed for the franchise.

“Alien: Covenant” will be released to theaters on May 19, 2017.

The Main 7 Biggest Batman Versus Joker Stories
Batman versus the jokerOf all the comic book saint/scalawag connections, there are none very as captivating as Batman and the Joker. Request versus Disarray. Apparently inverse in nature, however more comparable than you may accept. One of them crazy while alternate outskirts on craziness, some may contend. All Batman may need to make is one stride in the wrong bearing to wind up noticeably simply like the Joker. Only a little push.
Tumblr media
Nobody gets under Batman's skin like the Joker, and the other way around. Joker has insulted Batman by testing the idea of his reality, by severely assaulting his partners, some of the time notwithstanding killing them. Batman in the mean time, disappoints Joekr unendingly by declining to offer into Joker's enticement to kill him. Regardless of this, Joker has a specific appreciation for the Dim Knight. Contingent upon the understanding, some may even call it cherish.
Throughout the years, various astounding essayists have done their form of the Batman and Joker relationship. Regardless of whether in the funnies, the network shows, or the motion pictures, every medium has enabled a maker to leave their blemish on this well established fight. In the colossal Batman/Joker stories, the contention between the Dull Knight and the Jokester Ruler of Wrongdoing is never quite recently physical. It's constantly philosophical, mental and existential. Without one, we need to ponder whether the other would exist by any stretch of the imagination.
These are the best Batman/Joker stories.
13 Best Batman versus Joker Battles
Offer.
This competition will never kick the bucket. By Jesse Schedeen
Joker isn't quite recently the best Batman miscreant, he's one of the best scalawags in all of popular culture. Recently, DC's progressing Batman comic has been investigating the most recent epic showdown between these two foes. With the hotly anticipated arrival of Batman #40 this Wednesday, we'll at long last perceive how Batman stops his most savage enemy.
In festivity of this issue, we've selected 13 of our most loved Batman/Joker fights from the funnies, motion pictures, television arrangement and computer games. This wasn't just about picking the most notable Joker stories, yet rather those that component a physical encounter between the two characters. Look at our picks and let us know your most loved standoffs in the remarks underneath.
13
"New Year's Eve" (Batman: The Long Halloween #4)
Discharged 1997
The Long Halloween offered a yearlong puzzle as a youthful Batman fought huge numbers of his notorious enemies and attempted to reveal the personality of a secretive professional killer referred to just as "The Occasion Executioner." Normally, his journey in the end place him in the Joker's sights. The Jokester Ruler of Wrongdoing was none excessively satisfied at the prospect of another reprobate striking trepidation into the hearts of Gothamites. He rang in the new year by taking a product duster plane and endeavoring to harm the a huge number of individuals celebrating in the lanes (and by expansion, the Occasion Executioner).
This prompted one of the more important fights amongst Batman and Joker as the two duked it out on board the plane. Batman almost met his end when his cape got gotten in the plane's propeller (see, The Incredibles was appropriate about the risk of capes). At last, Batman figured out how to curb his adversary and send the plane smashing innocuously into the water.
12
"The Indication of the Joker" (Analyst Funnies #476)
Discharged 1978
This great Steve Engleheart/Marshall Rogers issue followed up from the similarly exemplary "The Giggling Fish," as Joker proceeded with his plot to change the world's fish into ghastly, smiling cartoons, patent the new look and receive the budgetary benefits. Batman was called upon to protect the hapless regular citizens remaining in Joker's direction. Lamentably for Bats, he was somewhat occupied at the time on account of his sentimental battles with Silver St. Cloud.
The last fight came as Batman understood that Joker was covering up on display camouflaged as a protect. Hence started a happy pursue as Batman sought after his enemy and the two fought on a half-developed building. At last, Joker enabled himself to plunge to his evident demise instead of surrender to the Dull Knight. Fortunate for him, Batman was excessively occupied, making it impossible to try searching for a body.
This storyline was later adjusted into the similarly paramount Batman: The Energized Arrangement scene "The Chuckling Fish."
11
The Parade Scene (Tim Burton's Batman)
Discharged 1989
1989's Batman was the primary cutting edge film to truly put the contention amongst Batman and Joker up front. And keeping in mind that a portion of the choices made in this film appear to be faulty looking back (Joker murdered Batman's folks? Batman made Joker tumble to his passing?), it got a considerable measure right, as well.
The champion encounter between these two came towards the finish of the film as Joker attracted Gotham's residents into the lanes with guarantees of free cash and afterward continued to harm them with his parade inflatables. It's fortunate the Batplane had a couple of mammoth clasps ideal for grabbing the inflatables away and enabling them to cruise out of mischief's way. Seldom have Batman's toys been so great. Evidently Batman held back on the protectvie defensive layer, however, as one shot from Joker's cleverly expansive gun was sufficient to cut the vehicle down. Senseless, perhaps, yet what else would you anticipate from a scalawag like Joker?
10
Shamefulness: Divine beings Among Us - Section 4
Discharged 2013
Shamefulness: Divine beings Among Us introduced an other DC Universe where Joker pulverized City, impelling Superman to execute the reprobate and turn into a world-overwhelming dictator.
