“A string of fish held by Henry and Wilfred Simard at the farm in 1920. [edms 1430]

Napoleon Simard came to Mabel Lake in 1908 and quickly got employment cutting timber. He then invited his brother Joseph and Louis Bussiere to go into partnership with him running a winter logging camp. They spent summers working their land and building homes. In 1910 the wives of Napoleon and Joseph joined their husbands. Mrs. Napoleon Simard arrived from Antler, Saskatchewan with two railway cars loaded with cattle, horses, hay, grain, household goods and children Henry, Lumina, Rosario, Louis, Adelard, Wilfred and Edward. A daughter, Virginia, stayed in Saskatchewan while their eldest son worked in Seattle.

Napoleon died in 1919, leaving Henry and Wilfred to run the farm (now owned by the Schalins). They raised beef, cattle and sheep in the summer and continued logging in the winter. The brothers purchased two large pleasure craft in 1921 and used them for 15 years to tow log booms. On Sundays, the boats were used to cruise the lake with friends.”

tourism entry agreements for many countries are completely unbalanced and unfair. did you know that people with a canadian passport can go to malaysia without applying for a visa / obtain an automatic tourism visa upon arrival, but if you have a malaysian passport you have to apply in advance for a tourism visa to go to canada? sometimes months in advance? any canadian can just show up to malaysia unannounced and they'll be let in, but my malaysian family has to beg the canadian gov for permission in advance (and get DENIED) just to come see me for a couple weeks. this is what it's like for most western passport holders in general, just because you are allowed free entry to the global south does not mean people in the global south are allowed free entry to the global north.

Sunflowers

Having a beautiful thought is as wonderful as a splash of colour in a plain world it’s the difference between being like everyone else or being different, there’s never anything wrong with different its beautiful its inspirational having a white rose is good but having the sunflower while everyone has white roses is powerful being able to be different in this world full of everyone trying to be the same all trying to fit in and simply exist shows courage and beauty it shows you don’t want to just exist you want to live you want to dance in the rain you want to fall into a pool of colour and inspiration you desire the feeling of pure joy when you kill the chemical of monoamine that resides inside your brain, feeling the excited rush of adrenaline hit you like the realization of how we came to be,

A Vancouver woman who is eight months pregnant says her landlord is threatening to raise the rent once her child has been born.

Joy Maynard and Antoine Moore are expecting their first child any day and have been living in their Vancouver basement suite since April 2021.

They told their landlord earlier in the summer about the pregnancy and Maynard said he informed them that his son is the owner of the house so they need to be talking to his son about these matters.

That’s when they said they were informed that any additional occupant would cost them $600 a month.

“We also told them that my mom is coming to visit. The son said that my mom is going to be considered an occupant,” Maynard said.
