Mary Ann Skuttle

Mary-Ann. Pretty neutral, she seems like she doesn't give two fucks about what happens which is kinda cool but kinda boring as well. I do absolutely love the 'tiny person very strong' trope so bonus points for that. 6/10 she's cool but atm seems unremarkable.

Ruben Hopclap

Seems like a dick tbh. Trying way too hard to be edgy but is also a cool foil for Fig in that way. He appears to genuinely like Wanda Childa so I feel a bit bad for the psychological break he will probably suffer when he learns that she's Fig. 4/10 (loses points for dragging the Thistlesprings into his little band ritual thing).

Ivy Embra

She's hot, ngl. Seems very similar to how I'd imagine Sandra Lynn at that age which is kinda interesting. She is a bitch however and did not seem AT ALL remorseful when she saw "Lucy". 3/10 she made fun of Mazey Phaedra.

Oisin Hakinvar

Probably the best member of the group so far. He was nice to Adaine even though she didn't recognise him. He also apologised for the actions of his friends! This implies that he maybe doesn't agree with what they're doing. Does follow Kipperlilly's lead as far as we know, so his biggest flaw seems to be being a follower. 7/10 i would also have a crush on Adaine even if my team leader hated her.

Buddy Dawn

Smarmy and self-assured. Absolutely brilliant characterisation from Brennan, bc Buddy is kind of how I would imagine Kristen would turn out to be without the bad kids. I think he could possibly be a good person if they showed him the truth of Helio and the world but he's also extremely annoying and dangerously dedicated to his grandfather's agenda. 3/10 he would comment "It's not too late to be saved" on queer Instagram posts.

Kipperlilly Copperkettle

I've said this before but I actually like her name, I think it's cool. As for her character: she's a deceitful, manipulative control freak who doesn't hesitate to sabotage her classmates and (potentially) murder her friends if she thinks they're in her way. 1/10 I don't like her.

Vanilla shake for him, Oreo McFlurry for you, and some fries to share.

You had barely pulled out of the driveway when he saw it… the horror. The atrocity.

“What?” you turned to him innocently, cluelessly.

He all but pulled over. “You dip your fries in your ice cream…?” he barely squeaked out.

You watched him look at you like you’ve grown another head, eyes popped out and mouth hanging open. “Yeah…?”

It took him three seconds to muster up, “But why?”

“Because it’s good.”

“Ew.”

“Hey!” you elbowed him lightly. “It’s good.”

“I mean, I knew who you were when we got together… I just hoped I was wrong.” he shook his head in disbelief, putting the car in drive once again. Leave it to Jake to react to be a drama queen about how you eat your food.

“Don’t knock it til you try it,” you dipped a fry in your McFlurry and offers it to him, “Try it!”

“Nuh-uh!” He blocked you swiftly by sipping his milkshake.

“You’re basically doing the same thing!” He took a handful of fries and stuffed them in his mouth, and you fail to see the difference. “This one just has Oreo, which makes it objectively better, babe.”

“You’re nuts.”

“I’m right.”

He snorted. “You wanna bet?”

“Sure. If it’s as bad as you think, I’ll… take out the garbage tonight.” And you absolutely hate taking out the garbage.

“And if it somehow turn out okay, I will… wash the dishes tonight and tomorrow,” he winked, that cocky fuck.

Without missing a beat, you nodded. “Deal. Now open up!”

Jake opened his mouth somewhat apprehensively, trying out the Oreo McFlurry-dipped french fry. It was fucking weird at first. It’s cold and soft on the outside, and warm and crispy on the inside.

But then it hits him. The sweetness of the ice cream, the salt and crunch on the golden brown fry, the surprising little chunks of Oreo…

It was…

Heavenly.

He sighed, side-eyeing you with a dirty look. “I hate you.”

The victory was sweet, but expected on your end. You chuckled knowingly and simply patted his hand. “I love you, too.”

SO while waiting for that to happen, I'll chat BRIEFLY about my thoughts on Ken Sato's insecurities to help me get out of the writer's block for a bit lmao

I fully subscribe to the characterization that Ken can actually be a bit awkward socially when he isn't putting up a pretense and is actually insecure

but what exactly is his source of insecurity?

For me, I don't fully believe all of his confidence is for show lmao. he knows he's a damn good baseball player, he knows he is hot as fuck— he knows he is the shit. I don't think the bullying affected his self-esteem in a way where he doubts himself bc I don't think he'll let white boys tell him what kind of person he is

instead, I think the bullying solidified his difficulty in being vulnerable with others and produced in his brain the false narrative that he is alone

The reason why he built this high self-image of himself is that he believes that he is the only person in his corner, aside from his mom. in connection to his dad, it is to show his dad that he never needed him to be a part of his life even if deep down, he does

Ken puts up the idea that he is the greatest of all time because he wants to show that he can do it without relying on others

it's very western, to hold onto an individualistic viewpoint on success, and to find it admirable that he was able to do it all with pure willpower

but it also makes him very lonely

what's more, i dont think we can divorce ken's insecurities about his inability to connect with others from his struggles with retaining his japanese identity and feeling like a foreigner in his own country

There's a lot more to discuss (I mainly use Erikson's psychosocial theory as a template) esp in terms on how the reader in 'home base' feeds into his insecurities and worsens his abandonment issues, but that's just a bit for now!! will try to update soon

So I just finished xiaolin showdown: I wanna talk about it. Spoilers.

I really liked the show! I knew I would thanks to childhood memories of it but I think it holds up alright even today! Imma break it down in what I Did like and what I Didn't like (I think Imma make a different post talking about the Wu). This is longer than I thought it would be. I'm sorry.

What I liked

The Wu themselves, love me magic shit even if they get repetitive at times(fr there are like 4 that just give the power to fly).

I fucking love Jack Spicer and Clay Bailey. They are my boys do you hear me! Love how Jack just won't quit and how Clay is just so painfully Texas. My bois

Love the magic in general! How all die of the main characters get to master their element and get special weapons and gear to help. Wish there was more time to flush all of it out tho ,but hey what can you do(other than post head canons).

Dojo Kanojo Cho

Just his name is fucking amazing, and I did like some of his jokes

And his powers were cool! I wish we could have seen the limits of his shapeshifting powers.

I did like wuya and wish we could have seen her do more witchy things.

Chase Young was also very cool.

I also like panda bubba's design and I kinda wish there was more of him. I wanna do things to him DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT

I already said this BUT I just love how all of them got individual weapons that I don't think were Shen Gong Wu? I think.

Master fung and dojo... Had a very odd relationship. I'm 90% sure they were at least fucking by how dojo acted when he went to a different temple and after that it was just very. Weird.nit Bad weird but still.

How they treated Jack. Idk man I just thought it was weird how the heros tournamented him so much? Like ya he's a ass but like, y'all are the heros why are you acting borderline worse than him???

I also kinda wish he could have officially joined the xiaolin side, I feel like they alluded to him switching multiple times but then he never does and I think that was a waste.

I am worried that this is going to sound judgemental / passive aggressive and I really really really do not mean it that way, I am just confused and curious - what is it that keeps parents of newborns so busy? I thought they didn't really... do much until they got more mobile? I know you have to change the diapers and clean the bottles etc but what actually takes up your time on a daily basis atm? needless to say I have zero experience with newborns lol

I also wondered this!! but it turns out it’s really more all the other Stuff that takes up so much time + the fact that you only have very short windows of time to do that stuff before the baby needs you again. like here is an average morning and early afternoon right now:

6:30-7 wake up, take dogs out, get pump parts out of sterilizer, grab breakfast to take upstairs if he’s not already screaming

7-7:35 feed baby (babies are such slow eaters I’m told they get faster but for the first three weeks it would often take him an hour to finish a bottle and you can’t do anything else while he’s doing it)

7:40-8:20 pump and hang out with baby (I have to pump for a long time bc my supply is so low)

8:20-8:30 put milk away, change him, get him dressed (a battle of wills but I’m bigger)

8:30-9:45ish he naps if I’m lucky! race around the house cleaning out all the bottles from overnight, mixing new formula for the day, emptying the dishwasher, doing any other house chores

9:45-10ish he’s awake again and HUNGRY!! try to distract him a bit to determine if he’s actually hungry or just cranky/gassy

10-10:35ish feed him again

10:35-11:45ish he’s awake and wants to be held and entertained so I hang out with him or try to do stuff one-handed while carrying him around the house. also often I have to change him again.

12-1ish longish crib nap if I’m lucky!! try to shower, take the dogs out again, maybe start laundry bc babies make SO much laundry, do anything else on my list. sometimes he skips the nap and just decides to spend that time screaming. sometimes he wants to nap but will only do it while being held in which case none of the above stuff can get done

1-2 feed him! but this time he’s gassy and grumpy and refusing the bottle or sleepy and refusing the bottle so it takes forever and I have to burp him a bunch or do stuff to wake him up more so he’ll eat

2-2:40 whoops I forgot to pump again and I’m leaking everywhere gotta do that while I hang out with him

2:45-3:45 try to walk the dogs with the baby while he naps in the stroller except I have to walk the dogs separately bc I can’t handle them both + the stroller so we do two 20-30 min walks with a cooldown break to change him at home & make sure he’s not too hot

3:45-4:15 whoops I forgot to eat lunch but now he’s screaming for no reason that I can discern so I gotta walk around bouncing him or do skin to skin time to help him calm down

4:30ish time to feed him again! I’ll never eat lunch but I have high hopes for dinner maybe like a poptart around 9pm!

mad stressed atm so let me use this opportunity to talk about Jacob Black!! first and foremost Krystopher Hyatt will always be MY Jacob. we already know he's roasty toasty warm as a hot shower and when he lays on top of you (which he will) he's like a living weighted blanket. he's so big and beefy and all he fucking wants is you. there's at least a 90% chance he imprinted on you on sight so now the bottom of his hierarchy of needs is food shelter water you. cuddling with this man is elite. you smell so good, your scent is so addictive to him he sometimes just shoves his face in your neck to breathe you in. the air around you is his favorite kind of air. he squeezes you so tight and you've never felt safer than when you're with him. he can smell your nervous system and can sniff out bad vibes and anxiety like a service dog. sometimes you don't realize you're having a bad mental health day until half way through the day bc he could tell way before you could and has been doing things to help you feel better, whether that be insisting you cuddle together all day and blow off your responsibilities or sending some of the other pack members to take care of your errands for you today and help you out a little. his world is right when you're with him, and he'll move mountains to make sure you're okay and safe and protected. with Jacob as the alpha you're automatic pack mom/dad/parent. the rest of the pack can tell when you're stressing too, and they have a binder full of plans and your favorite things to help you out on bad days. you take such good care of all of them, the least they can do is take care of you.
