Uhmmmmm soo. Over the past few months I've been seeing a lot of complaints or comments that digimon has too many designs which essentially boil down to “There are too many designs that are just humans in costumes.”

And for a while I just nodded my head and went Yeah Alright, because I Understood where it was coming from (the way most perfect + ultimate levels tend to become more humanoid over their predecessors) and thought it was a valid complaint even if I don’t agree. But eventually it got to the point where I got legitimately invested in wanting to know How Many Digimon there were that you could classify as “basically humans” and well. Here I am.

For the past week or so I came up with my own “categories” and counted how many digimon fit under each category to then later put into a graph like the one you see above ^

I did all of this for like, first and foremost My Own Interest, but I decided to share the results anyways in case someone else thinks this topic of discussion is interesting? I'll include as well under a read more a more in depth guide to the data i've accumulated as well

FYI, Important disclaimers: This is all highly subjective. Im not trying to claim these are any sort of objective categories canon to Digimon or that the results are objectively canon. You may think some or all of these categories are deeply redundant, or you will disagree with me over what counts as say, A Monster or A Furry or A Humanoid, and that’s fine. There are also digimon excluded from the total, most notably digimon that are cameo/minor characters in a singular digimon property, or recolours (ie Gabumon versus Psychemon) or which had minute design differences (Like, almost all of the different Agumons) because I thought including all of that was redundant or unnecessary. If there was a major difference in designs (ie Original Falcomon versus 2006 Savers Falcomon) however I did consider it as a separate design. Also, no X antibody designs were included, because oh my god there are already so many digimon and the X antibody designs could probably merit its own pie chart.

If I had a nickel for every time a SMP server was ending due to unprompted circumstances and the characters were all being doomed by the narrative to tragedy, but Philza Minecraft the man he is, somehow scourged up enough to give his cubito a happy ending despite the circumstances, I would have two and thank god the streamer decided to give something hopeful considering how miserable everyone else is

The song “Therapy” by All Time Low is insanely in line with Leo’s character in every way.

The following verses alone are so quintessentially Leo that it’s like he was made with it in mind:

at first glance i thought the fixation on till’s neck was a sly joke about a/b/o, a genre heavily based in bl works, in the same cheeky way ivan’s name is a play on korean lgbt slang.

but the recurring motif of strangulation, how till's relationships (excluding his infatuation with mizi) are largely characterized with him being the object while the other is the subject; how him being on a leash, not just a collar, is quite literally one of his defining visual traits...

it reminds me of shakespeare's othello, where the titular character strangles his wife to death in a fit of jealousy over her alleged infidelity... the results of round 6 almost feel like a subversion of that play, where the leading artwork, esp the red one, seemed to suggest that ivan would strangle till in an act of possession, but it ended up as just the opposite.

but i wonder if there's more symbolism we can extrapolate if we hypothesize that some of the imagery are allegories to othello...

i felt the need to doodle this scene from sannan-san hakumyu because like... it's just so endearing? shion's chizuru really captures the wholehearted dedicated pining she has for him in his route (i mean, you really gotta CHASE this man). honestly she's in top three of my favorite chizurus. and of course, teruma's sannan-san really did grow on me. i was used to mikata's sannan-san (since i'm a hakumyu boomer), but i adore both their portrayals and voices.

haven't drawn hakuouki in a hot minute, but it'll always have a special place in my heart.

Not sure I care enough to engage with the post, but to read SVSSS + extras and come away with the interpretation that SJ doesn't care about why YQY failed to save him, just that he did fail, and therefore would never forgive him or change his behavior towards him if he learned the truth, feels off-place to me. It seems to lean into the view that SJ doesn't actually care about YQY, just sees him as a useful tool, and thus couldn't be hurt by the supposed abandonment - with that interpretation it would then make sense to think he would neither care nor change his behavior (towards YQY) upon learning what actually happened.

#generously put - I suppose it's not an interpretation that the text of svsss completely forbids #but I don't see it as the most probable interpretation by a long shot and it doesn't explain their interactions or themes well at all #given that Shen Jiu eventually canonically forgives YQY even without an explanation I don't see why he wouldn't if one was earnestly given #I could see SJ continuing to throw some lingering degree of fit if he learned that YQY had indeed tried but failed #(and YQY honestly doesn't need to elaborate on the whole trauma only the important part - that he set out too late)#but I really don't think their relationship would have been anything like how it turned out in canon #no real comment on how SJ's actions would change on ~everything else~ since it's so counterfactual after that point and we know he's a git #I do honestly feel that the novel bolsters this idea with the whole thing at Maigu Ridge #where SY learns of YQY's tragedy and immediately sees what he has to do to avert the same with LBH #he saw how important it was to explicitly let LBH know how loved he is even if he can't explain everything because it CAN change things #and it does for them #the responsibility part is... well everyone is responsible for their own behavior - including SJ #now I don't have strong opinions on this next part #but regardless of trauma or his right to remain silent - YQY has some responsibility for the ~direct~ consequences of the choice he made #namely referring to SJ's belief that he was callously abandoned and his pain and anger over it #but he is absolutely not responsible for SJ's “everything else”#idk just had some thoughts
