I hesitate to call him dumb but compared to the others... yeah. He's too impulsive for his own good and he doesn't really think about consequences. He's never had a plan in his life. Everybody else is either really methodical (Liliana, Brooke, Reiji) or emotionally intelligent and good at problem solving (Milo, Diana) and Julian just... isn't. He's fuckin stupid but also look out? I guess?

And that's why they go so well together!  Last book you enjoyed reading: So many! Enjoying Prayer for th Crown Shy now but finished Nettle & Bone and really was satisfied by it.

Last book you hated reading:  I am trying to get through The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy and resenting it so much. I picked up a damaged copy of the physical book at work on the theory I’m mostly mad because I’ve been listening to the audiobook and it’s not that kind of book for me.

(But it is…not emotionally deep enough or plot-wise interesting enough for a CERTAIN key comp that has been made.)

Opinion on circuses now and in history:  Historically probably very exciting.

The only time I went to the circus I was quite young, didn’t get it, then had to sleep in a sleeping bag on the floor of my grandmother’s kitchen because my uncle was the one who sponsored the expedition and had no common sense.

(There MUST have been couches free? The only way I can account for this is that it must have run so late my grandmother was already in bed.)

It is very difficult not to answer this question with him, the Ace Attorney himself, the OG, phoenix wright. Love them all but... him.

Replying with Edgeworth feels too obvious and I know he's going to be the answer to several other questions so I'm going to go with Barry van Zuckyourblood. I saw him and thought oh god he's gonna be a barrel of laughs to go up against and then all of a sudden cracking his racist tsundere-ass façade became both mine and Ryunosuke's primary goal.

3. Favourite witness:

Lotta Hart has a very special place in my Hart. The more combative, unhelpful and unreliable a witness is, the more I love them

Can't help but answer this with Edgeworth. Just really is the character of all time. Honestly in general not just in AA. He's v important to me

Hard to say cos I think I like a lot of fan favourites but I might say Kristoph cos a lot of people seem to dislike him and not in a "love-to-hate-him" sort of way. I think he's a great character

Again hard to say, because I don't want to insult anyone else's taste, so I guess I'll say, I'm not as invested in Diego/Godot as a lot of people seem to be, but that doesn't mean I dislike him by any means.

80. Which was the case that actually got you hooked?

If I recall correctly, Rise From The Ashes. I had finished the game and had loved turnabout goodbyes so much and was like omg that was amazing that was so much fun I'm so sad it's over and then boom... Bonus case. then it was like, over for me, here I go, too late, now I'm a life long AA fan. And it was such a hard case for me that I was just like glued to it. And the reveals just blew me mind.

100. Phoenix Wright or Miles Edgeworth? Who do you like better?

I just adore both of them and the way their characters complement each other and from a storytelling standpoint it's hard to choose but from a Blorbo standpoint, I have to choose Edgeworth. Sorry Feenie

Dick and Artemis being convinced linda (and Hartley) aren’t real is so funny. It’s okay Linda doesn’t think THEIR real either out of spite. Though I do love the idea of linda accidentally crashing in on a team hang out in central one day and just…adding herself to the party at hand with no shame.

Honestly, there could also be a really interesting dynamic there since in the comics Linda expressed some concern sometimes early in their relationship that sometimes she felt a little lame compared to Wally’s superhero friends which idk? I really liked that part not only because 1) Linda and Wally talked about shit like a normal couple 2) Linda was aloud to have concerns and fears 3) talks about some of the tribulations OF dating a hero that are kind of more mundane compared to life or death danger.

dick and artemis are like "yeah your FAKE FRIENDS you MADE UP you fucking DWEEB" and then linda and hart being like "oh you mean the fictional friends you use as an excuse not to hang out with us?" and wally is just like perpetually annoyed like THEY'RE REAL OH MY GOD WHY DOES NO ONE THINK I HAVE FRIENDS

1. yes so true!!! wallinda healthy couple arc. they talk and she's able to express her concerns and insecurities because honestly they're totally valid fears. if my bf was off galavanting with fucking super heroes i'd be insecure too!! but then he's able to reassure her and let her know that a) his hero friends are total losers and she's way cooler than them and b) remind her that "normal" isn't bad and that he loves her and all the things!

2. LINDA IS A REAL PERSON ALERT!!!! guys breaking news women are actual people with feelings and emotions!!!! i agree w u anon i feel like so often the WAGs of heroes are pushed to the side and seen as these totally and completely understanding doormats and it's like no! dating a superhero would be so fucking weird! you're both going to have issues with the way you handle it in the beginning because for wally, all this shit, the having to leave work and events, the danger, the time away from home dedicated to hero work is all normal! in my mind by the time they get together he's already well established as a hero/sidekick (i'm gonna say he's taken up the flash mantle by now so barry can focus on raising his kids) and so he's used to having to leave at a moment's notice. for linda, all the superhero stuff is new! yeah she knew wally was kid flash a while back but now that he's a leaguer and a superhero in his own right, everything's changing and on top of that they're together now! it's a partnership, and linda 100% deserves to have a say in that relationship. she's not just a damsel for wally to save and kiss and bam hero moment, she's his girl, his partner.

3. yeah!!!!! mundane shit that's not life threatening or life changing is so regular and yet it's never talked about. like people experience insecurity in relationships all the time, especially if you think your s/o's friendgroup or coworkers or w/e are cooler than you!

Love in Hate Nation-- LET’S GO LESBIANS! 1960s sapphic love story taking place in a girls’ reformatory. Also, trans girl played by trans actress!!! Some of the amazing songs are “I Hope” and “Oh Well”. Susannah Son wants to be a singer, her performative activist boyfriend is gross and also wants her to marry him so he’ll have better options politically. Sheila Nail is so fucking cool and I love everyone in this. My brain cuts out about this I’m so sorry babes. There is not a cast recording but there IS an original cast bootleg on youtube.

Holy Musical B@man!-- If you liked the goofiness of 1960s Batman and Robin, but think “man, these guys should’ve been able to swear! And also should have had a candy themed villain!” this is the musical for you. Also if you’ve heard of the very queer Harry Potter musical that JK herself tried to sue over, it’s made by the same group <3. As usual with Team Starkid, whole thing is up for free on youtube by the creators.

Firebringer-- Speaking of the same group... Cave people sapphics who I think are bi or pan. I love them and they’re all so dumb. Also, if you’ve seen the “I don’t really wanna do the work today” vine, that comes from this. I do not remember any of the second half other than one of them taking the ring the other is proposing with... to propose. And the “*blows kiss*” “fuck no, Zazz” “duly noted”. Kind of like a shitpost musical. Once again, free by creators. Actually, check out any of their musicals.

The Prom-- In Indiana, Emma just wants to take her girlfriend to the prom, and in response, the PTA cancels it. With some help from some broadway actors looking for good publicity, they manage to pull it off. So, to summarize, teen lesbian gets gay uncle who knows what she’s going through!! This musical makes me cry every goddamn time. There is a movie now, and I’m very happy about that because *high profile gay rep on netflix*, but I personally did not like the direction they took with it. They put a weird amount of emphasis on biological rather than found family in the movie, and were a little too forgiving when it came to trauma from family for being gay. Also, they took away Emma being butch. This was sadly (loosely) based on a recent true story from I think 2012. Also, was the first gay kiss in the Macy’s parade. You know those movie musicals the straight girls in theater like? The music is similar, but gayer, and for some reason that makes me so fuckng happy. I think it’s because non-queer people have had musicals for so long, and those normally have a 60s vibe, and the music in this does too and it feels more classic?? Sapphic promposal song (het at the beginning). “Unruly Heart” and the end of Act 1 will break you. Please ignore the bad wigs.

Hadestown--  If you know the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, it’s like that, except capitalism part 1. Orpheus is a poor musician, Eurydice dies, just like the myth. Except, the Great Depression post-apocalyptic setting that works better than it probably should. There are actually 3 soundtracks: the concept album, off-Broadway, and Broadway. I personally don’t like the concept album purely based on vibe. Off-Broadway has an absolutely gorgeous sounding Orpheus, and if you’ve heard of the disaster that was Spiderman: Turn Out the Dark, then you’ve heard of surprisingly amazing Broadway Orpheus Reeve Carney. The Fates are gorgeous and I’ve decided they’re queer. Tony’s performance link here. Explores relationships, with Hades and Persephone’s aging relationship mirrored by Orpheus and Eurydice’s relatively new one. Anyway, unionize.

Jasper in Deadland-- If you know the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, it’s like that, except capitalism part 2. Jasper is a teen who’s best friend Agnes is pretty much the one good thing left in his life. His mom left, he got kicked off the swim team (he’s manic pixie dream boy in this, especially for swimming), and Agnes dies at the beginning trying to show Jasper that she’s brave and he should be too. So, he bravely ventures into Deadland to find her, meeting Gretchen the tour guide along the way. He also finds out that since he’s still living, he can bring memories back to the dead. Songs like “Stroke by Stroke” (he’s uh, definitely a teen, guys) and “Living Dead” (I shared a prinxiety animatic of that on here a while ago).They blend Greek, Norse, Egyptian, Christian, and whatever Dante’s Inferno counts as together to create Deadland. Story’s kinda hard to follow from the soundtrack, so if u wanna learn how it all ties together message me.

Death Note Musical-- Okay babes, here’s where it gets tough. It was written originally in English, and there is a spectacular English concept album, but the only productions have been in South Korea, Japan, and I think Taiwan. Listen to it anyways, find a bootleg of it with english subtitles. It has so much gay tension and also a truly ethereal character who seems to be a lesbian who is also either demisexual or demiromantic. If any of y’all saw the anime like me, it kind of cuts out the arc after episode 26. I personally thought it was actually a better story for it.

Alice by Heart-- Okay, this one makes me fucking cry every goddamn time. In WW2, these poor goddamn kids are all alone in the Tube System (is that what y’all call it? genuinely asking here) with none of their parents but still some grownups. Alice’s best friend Alfred is dying of tuberculosis, and to try to have one last thing together they start reading Alice in Wonderland, only for Nurse Hart to rip it apart to try to separate healthy Alice from dying-from-TB Alfred. It doesn’t work, and Alice proclaims she “knows it all by heart”, She tries to linger in the story with Alfred to have more time with him, he keeps trying to move it along because he’s dying and wants to finish it one last time. Themes are growing up and grief I guess.

hi! i'm sorry to bother you! i'm trying to study the mabinogion (working from sioned davies' translation) but i just have absolutely no background in the area or medieval literature etc and am feeling really out of my depth/ don't know where to start in accessing these stories? i was wondering whether you might have any recommendations? all my best!!

ooohhh the mabinogion!!! it's been a hot minute since i've read that im ngl (the welsh texts are lovely but i def do tend to lean more on the dutch/french/breton texts more alsfjdsalkdfsa) but my personal favorite welsh text is culhwch and olwen!!! like [chef's kiss] truly the best.

hmmm i do have this post on my intro to arthurian med lit/4 texts to help ease your way into med lit (<- uh there's two works by marie de france, chrétien de troyes, and whoever the hell wrote lancelot and the hart with the white foot) (and then this one with a bunch of sir gawain and the green knight translations)!! arthurian med lit really is like....while there is no set "canon" there are various bodies of works that have more influence upon the living body of arthuriana more than others and it's REALLY fascinating to see how that morphs throughout history (and how arthuriana has been used to facilitate certain modes of thought in regards to the crusades etc) especially in regards to its ties back to breton and welsh tradition... i also have an arthurian cheat sheet (CW for mentions of sexual assault and rape) where i kinda list out every character and a little bit of the plots of the major works (which like...i should update this..) if that may help?? the main difference is that welsh arthuriana has a lot more focus on bedivere and kay and the french/dutch tend to focus more on gawain and lancelot but that's kinda like....a blanket statement more than anything alsfdkjaslfsa.

i would also recommend poking around my friend rey's blog @reynier because they have a LOT of sources there and i know that finny @bestebisclavret posts a lot about the welsh so i think it wouldn't hurt to peruse there as well! (: in general though i think most of us arthurian bloggers are pretty friendly so like genuinely if u have any questions feel free to ask them!!!! i literally get soooo giddy knowing that more people are getting into arthurian med lit<3

Stock market, fame & part-time catering gigs

Somehow, all three picks ended up being shows starring Ken Marino so I’m declaring this week to be a Ken Marino appreciation week which you can also celebrate by watching his work. Or, you could just watch them because he’s hilarious.

Black Monday (2019- )

I can’t tell you how much I love this show. This is one of my favorite shows of all time. It’s clever. It’s hilarious. And it’s unpredictable. If I had to describe it in one word, I’d say it’s irreverent. It’s about the 1987 stock market crash which was the largest one-day percentage drop in the history of the Dow Jones Industrial Average but it also isn’t because it’s all made up. I’d even say it’s crazier than The Wolf of Wall Street because it doesn’t have to stick to the facts. Honestly, I’d even skip the trailer and go in blind and watch the pilot, Let me tell you how it starts - it’s Black Monday, the streets of Wall Street clearly in crisis mode. The focus shifts to a bright red stretch Lamborghini which rolls to a stop. The driver gets out to polish the hood and wait around for his boss to come in. And then, someone drops down from the building onto the roof of the car, which crumbles under him. I know what it sounds like but I assure you, this is definitely a comedy. It’s possibly Don Cheadle’s best work and it deserves some attention because he absolutely deserves  more recognition than his most famous role as the second-choice US government’s soldier version of Iron Man. It also has Regina Hall, Andrew Rannels, Casey Wilson, and Ken Marino (who plays the twin Lehman Brothers - not related to the real Lehman Brothers who weren’t twins and were three in number) giving great performances. The show moves beyond Black Monday after Season 1 and they’ve still managed to keep it interesting. Season 3 aired earlier this year and it hasn’t been renewed or cancelled yet.

The Other Two (2019- )

This isn’t your traditional sitcom. Sure, it’s set in New York City. Sure, they even have real hosts announcing the news. But it’s a comically exaggerated version that unabashedly parodies reality and modern culture. As a YouTube commentator called it, “it’s not satire, it’s advanced satire”. There are a lot of similarities to real-life people and events that aren’t coincidental. I don’t know how they managed to pull it off but it might be because it doesn’t take itself too seriously, signaling that you shouldn’t either. It’s about two millennial siblings who are struggling to ‘make it’ in New York City. Cary (Drew Tarver) is a struggling actor. His sister, Brooke (Heléne Yorke), used to be a professional dancer and is now… trying to figure things out. Things aren’t going well but they also aren’t bad. Until their little 13-year-old brother, Chase (Case Walker), becomes an overnight pop sensation, getting 22 million hits on a song called ‘Marry U at Recess’ and he’s immediately taken under the wing of a somewhat incompetent manager (Ken Marino). ChaseDreams is hailed as the “sexy new singer in town” and “the next big white kid” who starts getting invites to movie premiers, invitations from school dances of his millions of teen fans, and begins living in Justin Theroux’s ridiculous former apartment. I’d say one thing, it’s very memorable because it’s another show that goes where you didn’t think they could go.

Party Down (2009-2010 | 2022?)

I didn’t see this when it originally aired in 2009 (which is 12 years ago???) and when I finally did watch it recently, it was just me looking at the screen going - isn’t that ___ from ___ for practically the whole pilot and then again every other episode. Apart from the actors you see above*, the show also starred Megan Mullaly, Jennifer Coolidge, J. K. Simmons, Ken Jeong, and Kristen Bell. That still isn’t the full list. Even Kevin Hart and George Takei made appearances. You can just go in knowing it has the biggest names in comedy, it’s impossible to fuck up something when you have such a brilliant cast (well, almost impossible). But if you do need to know what it’s about, it’s about a bunch of struggling actors trying to make it in Hollywood while working at a catering company (spoiler alert - they’re not the best caterers). But they do get to go to the craziest parties. It’s not as crazy as the other shows but it’s a solid comedy and it’s getting a revival soon with almost all the original cast members returning so it’s a great time to catch up and then recommend this to others so they can watch it too.

Don’t Hold Me -1- Carter Hart

A/N: So, I talked about writing this a long time ago. And @oven-chicken-blog​ and I started talking about Carter a while back, so Carter miniseries is a go. As always, angst. Lots of angst ahead. Also, new chapters for this will probably be slow. There are also going to be some content warnings to go along with this. Including mentions of different types of abuse, panic disorders, and PTSD.

You loved living in Philadelphia. You loved U Penn. You’d never really thought about what would happen if you landed in a city full of people that you knew. To be honest, you didn’t think you’d end up in a place with several people you knew, not when you were going out of state for school. But when you landed in Philly and you received a text from someone you’d known for quite a few years, you were more than shocked. 

Yet, you liked it. Because you now had someone to look after you during the school year. You more than appreciated that you had someone, especially someone you trusted and someone you knew would take care of you. 

You already made several calls to him during the first semester of your freshman year, especially when you needed someone. He was the closest thing you had to family on this side of the coast. The fact that he’d known you since you were a child definitely helped. 

“Where are you?”

“I’m outside of the hockey house, off campus,” You quickly explained, “I- I need you to come get me. Please. I need to get out of here.”

He must’ve sensed the fact that you were close to tears, because the next thing you knew, you could hear him getting up and telling whoever else was with him to move their ass. He kept talking to you, making sure you were still there, as he moved. 

“I need you to tell me the address, sweetheart,” He begged, “I promise, I’m on my way, I just need to know where I’m going.”

You looked around you, trying to find a street sign and a house number. You could still hear the music playing behind you, and the sound of everyone inside cheering over something. You felt sick. You weren’t entirely sure that you wouldn’t throw up right there on the street. You took a few deep breaths before being able to focus enough to ramble off what seemed like the right address to him. 

“Patty, did you get that?” he called to someone else in the car. 

“Yeah, we should be there in twenty,” the other guy replied.

“Keep talking to me, okay? We’ll be there soon.”

You curled up on the curb, instantly regretting the short skirt and crop top you’d worn to the party. Maybe you should’ve listened to your brother, who tried to tell you not to go near the hockey guys. He was stupidly protective over you, but he seemed to be right this time.

You were shaking and starting to freeze. You wished you would’ve out on more clothes, or just stayed in your dorm room. There was a lot about tonight that you were already regretting. You should’ve listened. You shouldn’t have gone, you shouldn’t have started to drink. You should’ve been more careful. 

“Y/N!”

Without even thinking, you found yourself running into his arms. He was warm and safe. You knew, much like your actual brother, that he wouldn’t let anyone hurt you, so long as he was there to stop them. 

“What happened? Huh?”

“I just want to get out of here, please, Trav,” You begged him. 

“Okay. Here, take this, you’re fucking freezing,” Travis hastily took off his jacket and put it around you, “Patty, can you drive so I can sit in the back with her?”

“Yeah, I got it.”

“I’m sorry Nol.”

He laughed and gave you a quick side hug, “I’m just offended that you don’t have me on speed dial yet.”

“Not now Patty.”

You mustered as much of a smile as you could, “You’re Brother #3 in my phone, not quite on speed dial, but pretty close.”

“C’mon, I’m assuming your roommate is at that party?” Travis asked you, to which you nodded, “Alright, you can crash with us.”

Travis helped you into the car before running to the other side. Nolan climbed into the driver’s side and started up the car. You got situated and then ripped off your stupid high heels. They were another thing you regretted about tonight.

“I promise, I don’t always look like a cheap hooker,” You joked, noticing Nolan looking at you through the mirror.

“Never said you did.”

“I thought you promised E that you weren’t going to party,” Travis mentioned a few minutes later. 

“He’s not my mother, I’m legally an adult, I can do whatever the hell I want,” You grumbled. 

“Just because you can, Y/N, doesn’t mean that you should.”

You rolled your eyes. He sounded like your big brother, maybe because they were best friends and you knew Travis felt responsible for you. Either way, they didn’t control you. Even if they were right, they didn’t dictate your life. 

You were capable of making your own decisions and you could deal with the repercussions of them. You were old enough, you were in college, that was the time to make mistakes. And the time to fuck up. Yet you knew tonight was a bad idea from the start, but you wanted to feel normal again.

“Do you want to tell me what happened?” Travis finally asked. 

“Drunk hockey players,” you shrugged, “One of them just saw a short skirt, and nothing else. That’s all. I just didn’t want to stay.”

“Do we need to turn around so I can beat the shit out of him?” Travis asked. 

“No, he’s not worth it Trav.”

“No. But you are.”

You woke up on his couch the next morning, with little memory of what happened the night before. Patty was moving around in the kitchen, you hoped he was making coffee. God, you needed coffee. Your head was pounding. You probably shouldn’t have said yes to a glass of whatever was in that damned bucket. 

You groaned and rolled over. The sunlight was too much. Didn’t TK have any damned blinds in this place? Surely he got paid enough to afford some damned blinds, or maybe even curtains. Something to keep the sun from killing you.

“Here.” Travis was the one to bring me the coffee.

A mug was placed down on the table in front of you, followed by Aspirin, and another blanket was draped over you. You smiled before snuggling deeper into the couch. At least Travis got a comfortable couch. 

“How are you feeling?” 

“Like an elephant sat on my head,” You groaned. 

He laughed and sat on the edge of the couch. He started rubbing your back, slowly, just like he did a few years ago, back when he played with your brother. You groaned again and buried your head deeper into the pillows.

You tried not to think about what happened last night. You knew the party was a bad idea. You’d known that from the instant your roommate invited you. Hockey players were normally something you tried to stay away from, unless it was Travis and Nolan. You knew you could trust them, but that was as far as it went for you.

College hockey players were something that you tried to avoid at all costs. You Knew what they were like, you knew all too well. Nothing about them was good. Yet, when she’d asked you to go, you didn’t say no. Instead you pulled out your shortest skirt and a low cut top. 

“Are you okay? You were pretty shaken up last night.”

“I’m fine Trav,” you assured him, “It was a pretty stupid idea. But I’m fine.”

He gave your shoulder a squeeze. You couldn’t even begin to thank him enough for rescuing you last night, and all the other times that you’d called him before that. You used to call him instead of your brother, Ethan, because Travis asked fewer questions and could keep a secret.

He was good at picking you up, and giving you space, all while loving you in the way that you needed at the time. He made you feel safe and protected, all like Ethan did, just without asking why he was needed.

“Do you want to talk more about it?”

“Nope. I want to drink my coffee, and keep your sweats on, because they’re comfy.”

“I won’t be getting those back will I?” He questioned. 

“Nope you play for the team You can get more.”

He laughed. He knew you’d never give them back anyway. You always took his and your brother’s. Any chance you got, they’d always become yours. Truth be hold, he should be lucky that you hadn’t taken any yet this season.

“Hey! I made eggs, since TK actually went to the store yesterday and bought shit!”

“C’mon, eggs and toast, good hangover cure.” 

You cracked a smile. How many times have you made that very thing for him over the years? That was always your go to for everyone. You wondered if Patty remembered the last time you made it for him and Travis. 

“Oh, Carter is coming over,” Patty reminded Trav. 

“Shit, I forgot,” He looked over at me and tried to crack a smile, “Guess you’ll get to meet Carter, unless you want me to take you home?”

“No, because she’ll probably have someone in her bed and the room is going to smell like sex, and probably vomit, knowing her,” You explained, “So, I guess I’ll just stay? If that’s okay?”

They both shrugged, “He’s your age, maybe you two could be good for each other? Since you seem to be tired of Patty.”

“You are not setting me up with your teammate,” You snapped, “You know how I feel about other hockey players.”

“If I didn’t already know you, I’d probably take offense to that,” Patty warned, “But, having known you for over a year now, and fighting to actually get you to like me, I understand.”

“You’re lucky I can still stand to be around you.”

“Wow, I love you too, Kiddo!”

“Nolan! You’re a year older than me, shut up.”

Travis laughed and shoved Nolan’s shoulder. You loved the two of them in a way you didn’t realize you could. You’d been so cut off for so long and they seemed to slowly bring you back enough. You still weren’t 100%, there were still parts of you that weren’t fully glued back together. But you were okay. 

You didn’t know what you’d do without either of them to be completely honest. They’d become the family that you didn’t have while you were at school. They went far beyond just picking you up outside of parties, or rescuing you from your roommate and her constant visitors.

You depended on both of them in a way. Sure, Travis was as good as family, that was a no brainer, but Nolan was too. He’d been there for you since the day Travis first reached back out to you. You loved them both. But that didn’t mean you wanted to meet someone else. 

“I think I might just go climb into your bed Trav. My whole body is feeling it today, and you actually have blinds in your room.”

“Y/N! C’mon, it’s Hart. You even said you liked watching him in goal.”

“Just because I like to watch him play, doesn’t mean I actually want to meet him. I’m not in the mood today Travis,” You hoped he wouldn’t keep pushing you on it. 

You hoped he wouldn’t make you beg. You didn’t want to see anyone else. Your little circle of friends was enough. You couldn’t handle another guy in your life. Last night was a mistake, brought on by hours of your roommate bugging you to go. You were tired of always hiding out, but you also couldn’t handle everything that came with going out. 

“Okay. We’ll try and be quiet out here,” he sighed and kissed your forehead, he was one of the only people that you’d ever let do that, “Go back to sleep. I’ll check on you in a while.”

You tried not to think about the fact that you were running from someone you didn’t even know. Travis wouldn’t try to get you to meet anyone who wasn’t worth it, you knew that. But at the same time, after last night, you weren’t ready for any other surprises. 

You tried your best to ignore the sounds that followed the arrival of the young goalie. However, despite Travis’ promise, they weren’t quiet. You buried yourself under the blanket and closed your eyes. You’d been able to fall asleep during parties before, surely you could sleep through three guys practically screaming in the living room. 

You were just starting to finally doze off when the bedroom door slammed open. You practically jumped out of the bed, not expecting any of them to come bursting in like that. Standing in the doorway was the person you were trying to avoid. 

“Oh, shit,” His cheeks instantly turned red, “Sorry, I’ll just um-”

He backed out and shut the door. You could hear him chuckle as he made his way back down the hall, “TK, man you should’ve told me you had a girl over. I would’ve left you alone.”

You couldn’t help the anger that bubbled up as you threw off the covers. All you wanted to do was get some sleep, and then hang out with the boys that you consider to be your family. You didn’t want to meet anyone, you didn’t ask for Carter Hart to join you. You certainly didn’t exactly want him to think you were something that you weren’t. 

So, you found yourself throwing open the door and marching into the living room. Nolan already looked panicked when he saw you. Travis was trying to explain to Carter who you were. But suddenly all you felt like doing was yelling at all of them.

“What the hell? Seriously, what part of I wanted to sleep didn’t you understand Travis?”

Travis sighed and ran a hand through his hair before turning back to Carter, “Cart, this is Y/N, my unofficial little sister. She crashed here because her roommate is...a little too friendly with some guys on campus.”

“Wait, you’re Y/N?” Carter whipped around to face you, pure shock on his face.

“Well, I’m certainly not someone just warming Travis’s bed,” You snapped back, “I think I’m going to head out now.”

You turned and reached for the gym bag Travis gave you last night to put your clothes in. The walls were starting to close in on you, all you wanted to do was run. But when you started to make your way to the door, a hand reached out and grabbed your shoulder. Somehow you instantly knew it wasn’t Travis and you froze.

“Hey, c’mon you don’t have to leave.”

Before even thinking you spun back around, and slapped his hand away from you, “Don’t touch me.” 

You didn’t have to look at Travis to know that he was starting to panic. So was Nolan. They knew what your boundaries were. You couldn’t fully be mad at the young man in front of you, because he didn’t know. He didn’t know you, or what you could and couldn’t handle. It wasn’t his fault. 

“Don’t touch me.”

Your voice was smaller now. You sounded mousy. You hated that feeling that came along with this. You backed away from all three of them. You needed air. You knew Travis and Nolan would never do anything that you weren’t comfortable with, but Carter made you nervous. You knew he was harmless, Travis wouldn’t let him near you if he wasn’t. But still, he made you uneasy in ways that you couldn’t understand. 

“At least let me drive you back to campus,” Travis begged. 

“Trust me, I need to walk.”

“Y/N-”

“I love you Trav. I’ll call you later.”

You shouldn’t be running. You knew that. You should be able to stand your ground and meet Travis’s friends, his hockey family. They were more than important to him, yet the only one you could handle being around was Nolan. It had nothing to do with the rest of the guys and everything to do with you. 

You couldn’t expect any of them to understand why you were the way that you were. Travis knew because he was there during everything. Nolan knew because Nolan had witnessed bits and pieces. But there wasn’t an easy way for you to explain it to anyone else. So you hid. And you’d keep hiding because that’s what you were good at.
