Obsessed with the POV choice in Imperial Radch as well, both because Leckie does some really wild stuff with how expansive the strict first-person is able to become due to the worldbuilding and who her narrator is, and because it's SO entangled with the central thematic concepts of identity. In the first book flashbacks when the narrator is still a warship, "I" can encompass so many things, and sometimes explicitly refers to different facets in the narration--is "I" Justice of Toren, or One Esk, or a specific segment, or Breq narrating from twenty years in the future? "I" isn't simple, isn't unified, and while this is most literal and obvious with Breq/One Esk/Justice of Toren and Anaander Mianaai's split factions it's true constantly throughout the work at every level of scope. Individual characters struggle with internal conflicts and hit their breaking points--what is it that makes someone decide they have to disobey orders and make a stand or they won't be themself anymore? How do you know who you are if you've been forcibly changed (Tisarwat) or if the world you knew has moved on and become unrecognizable (Seivarden)? How does a character on a colonized world navigate the split identity that comes from the pressure to assimilate to the dominant culture? And then there's the Radch writ large, all the Radchaai so deeply invested in the idea that there is only one true concept of Radchaai society, of civilization, but of course there isn't! It changes based on location and over time, and Breq muses that the Radchaai empire would be largely unrecognizable to the isolated sphere of the Radch itself. In these books, even if you aren't the last remnant of a destroyed spaceship and its legion of bodies, "I" is such a complicated concept and the narrative never lets you forget it.

Random Dark Rise questions, thoughts and theories

My brain is filled Dark Rise, there's nothing else I can think about anymore, so I typed up some stuff that's on my mind.

Slight spoilers for the Tarot Trading Cards if you haven't seen them yet or are trying to avoid them.

How did Jannick (and/or the other stewards) find out that James is a reborn? Is it because he got hurt, but healed immediately? Did he use magic not knowing it was a bad thing? Jannick mentioned his wife died, did James accidently kill her(with his magic)?

Do James and Will look exactly like their past selves, basically ignoring genetics? Is that why Devon recognised Will? Or was it just Will´s aura. On Sarcean's trading card we can see that he has Will's hairstyle. Black hair with bangs swept to the left and shaved(?) sides. Only the back is long. Obviously this could very well be explained by the artist taking artistic liberties, but I don't know. Personally I hope they look the same.

Speaking of Devon and Tarot Cards. Someone else on here (I will try to find them) pointed out that Devon told Violet that she has more in common with him than the stewards and wondered what it could mean. We know that Devon was an actual horse that somehow turned human. Maybe lions were actual lions that could also become human? Or vice versa? When the stewards attack the ship, one of them told Tom that he's nothing like the lions in the past. Why? Is he weaker? Was it simply an insult that doesn't have any deeper meaning? Or is there indeed some magic stuff going on? One of the new trading cards features a woman named 'mrs. Duval' with a lion next to her. Could she be a lion too and the animal next to her is her but transformed? Or maybe it's only a pet...who knows. There's also the whole plotline with "Tom has to kill people like him to become stronger" which kind of got dropped and never picked up again.

This next one is just me being confused, so let's recap some things we know already before I start rambling. I also didn't read the English version, maybe the wording was better in the original.

The dark king ordered his servants to be executed so they can be reborn with him.

This is why Anharion got executed on the step of the palace.

The Dark King himself was killed by the Lady somewhere close to the Mediterranean Sea.

Anharion was supposed to be buried in the Dark King's grave (according to Gauthier)

-> why exactly did he need everyone to be executed? Was he losing the war? And how did he know they would be reborn? Random guess? Magic?? Will and James are already here, will there be other reborns beside them? Do you think the reborn servants will recognise Will and cause conflict?

This next bit is absolutely batshit crazy and I have no proof other than I guess it would be cool

-> The eldest steward said The Dark Kings was killed somewhere in the south: what was he doing there? Was Anharion already dead by then? Did he willingly seek out the Lady to settle things? Maybe the translation was garbage and the original tells a different story, but I actually believe Sarcean was the one who died first based on Gauthier saying that Anharion was buried in his (Sarcean) grave. Maybe before the Dark King died he gave an order that if he dies on his mission then Anharion is supposed to get executed and since he was wearing the collar he had no choice to obey. Basically even though Sarcean was dead, Anharion was still under the collar's influence. Gauthier also never explicity stated that Sarcean was present when the execution happened only that he ordered it. Can someone who has an English copy maybe send me a picture of the page? óuò It's in chapter 28 I would like to see what Gauthier says in the original

Or was Will reborn first after Mary's murder and only after the Dark King was back everyone else also came back. Someone in the hall did say that James being there was a bad omen, implying everyone else comes back first with the Dark King being last.

I feel like I was definitely overthinking some parts, but yeah... ^^" I also read some people got an early copy for Dark Heir and unfortunately there's one person on Twitter who already spoiled a bit. So, uhm, if you have read Dark Heir before it came out, don't interact with this. I'm not interested in 'vague hints' which really aren't that vague...

“You are not happy.” S.T.E.V.E. says looking at El and the little android looks at him sadly.

“You are still hurt. Inside.” she replies softly.

S.T.E.V.E. moves his arms to show her that he is fine “I am not broken anymore. Dustin repaired all my components.”

The girl shakes her head “It’s not something that can be repaired. It's something inside.” she insists, but S.T.E.V.E. dismisses the subject and looks at her with affection.

“Will you be ok when I leave?”

“I’ll miss you.” she confirms, hugging him tight and for a moment S.T.E.V.E. wonders what should he feel, what should he do.

This thing of showing human emotion is still complicated for him, his human brain is screaming that he has to hug her too, that a hug feels warm and will make him feel better, but he feels nothing and doesn't know how to move his new limbs to hug her.

“It’s ok. You will learn. I learned too.” El says, as if she was able to read his mind.

“If we get the occasion you could teach me.”

“I will. And thank you.”

“For what?”

“For not taking me to the bad men.”

S.T.E.V.E. sits on the bed and El follows him “Would you like to tell me what happened to you?” She shakes her head “It’s ok. You don’t have to, and I want you to know that it doesn’t matter what you are or what I am, I will always protect you.” the android says, looking at her in the eyes with conviction.

El smile is so bright that enlightens the entire room “I know that. You are a good person.”

Person.

No one ever defined him as a person. 

He is an android, a tin can, a metalhead… but a person? Being defined as a person feels important.

They are still talking when a high-pitched sound makes them both startle.

“It’s the alarm, someone is coming!”

They run toward the big room and find everyone already there.

“Somehow they found us. We have to leave the planet." Hopper says, pointing at the red signal on his monitor, then he turns toward the group "Kids, take only the essentials, Joyce, send a message to the other outpost and make sure everyone gets on board quickly. As soon as they are here we fly away.”

“You can’t leave, they will destroy your ship.” Owens exclaims, but Hopper keeps calm.

“They are not looking for us, they are looking for you!” he states without even looking at the other man.

“Are you really sure that they will not shoot against a civil ship, just in case?”

Hopper and Owens glare at each other, ready to tear each others' throats, when a metallic voice interrupts the staring contest.

“They will not. I’ll go to wait for them in the desert and when they will land you will fly away.” He says calmly.

“Kid, you are a good hunter, but not so good, they will kill you in the blink of an eye, and in any case, we are not going to give them exactly what they want.” Hopper states.

"So what are you suggestin? Uh? Will you leave with the android? They will find him again, and again, and again. If Brenner is a fucking android too he can hunt him down forever!" Owen hisses.

“He is not wrong. They are going to land here because they are looking for me. Your best choice is let them get me and fly away while they are distracted” S.T.E.V.E. explains, looking at the map "We have no time. I should go meeting them in the desert, the farthest I can get from the outpost, and wish for the best."

Dustin is staring really seriously at Steve.

“What?” the android asks, letting some of his humanity fill the cracks in his fragmented mind.

“Do you trust me?” the boy asks him with a sardonic smile.

Steve is in the middle of the desert, pointing a gun at Eddie’s head; the outlaw is dressed in a thermal suit but is still sweating like a madman.

“Are we fucking sure?” Eddie asks.

S.T.E.V.E. doesn’t answer, he keeps pointing the gun at his head.

When the ship finally lands, Vecna is the first to get out of the ship, pointing his gun at S.T.E.V.E. as soon as the doors open “Fancy meeting you here, STE2UTK7NQ.”

“I got the outlaw, Eddie Munson.” he pauses and then he adds "Again." 

Vecna glares at him “You got him, uh? Because, from the prison’s cameras, it looks like you were the one who helped him escape and he was the one who helped you when you crashed on the ground.” the white android replies sarcastically.

“The outlaw must have hacked my security system during our first crash and I didn’t detect it until it was too late. But now I am fine, and I'm offering you my captive, is that enough?"

The white android gets closer "You are offering me your captive, uh? Mmhh… that’s a nice story. I wonder if Dr. Brenner will believe you or he will just open your head like a melon and look at every little circuit inside you.”

S.T.E.V.E. doesn’t react.

“Good. Now. Why don’t you kill this fucker? Uh?” Vecna insists, testing Steve.

“He deserves a fair trial.” S.T.E.V.E. sternly replies.

“He does not. He killed many humans. Do you remember that, STE2UTK7NQ? Or your memory chip is too damaged? I see that your body was vandalized. Such a pity. You were so good-looking model, I was thinking about sending you to a whore house once Brenner got everything he wanted from you.” Vecna gives him a wry smile “I think you remember what happens to the androids that are not useful anymore…”

S.T.E.V.E. keeps calm, still pointing the gun at Eddie’s head “What do you want me to do?”

“Shoot him.”

Without hesitation, S.T.E.V.E. shoots Eddie who falls to the ground.

“What now?”

Vecna smiles, satisfied “Mmh… I was expecting some rebellion from you. Maybe he did really hack you.”

Vecna gets closer to S.T.E.V.E., rubbing his hand on S.T.E.V.E.’s face.

S.T.E.V.E.'s human memory supplies him that it’s supposed to be a caress, but it doesn’t feel like that.

“Look at you… the precious android that Brenner thought lost for so long. It will be so fun opening your head and finding out if you really have a soul like humans say they do.”

“Humans?”

Vecna nods “Yeah… somewhere inside you, between your chips and your circuits, there is a piece of a dead man: memories, ticks, habits. Maybe even his soul. Do you think you have a soul, STE2UTK7NQ?”

S.T.E.V.E. doesn't react “I’m just an android.” 

“Oh no… you are so much more. The first hybrid between androids and humans. You could be the first of an entirely new species. You will die, obviously, but don’t be sad. Brenner will learn so much for you and his new version will be even better than this one.”

“New version?”

Vecna takes a knife and stabs S.T.E.V.E. in the abdomen, some fluid starts to pour from the wound and still, S.T.E.V.E. does not move, suffocating a whimper.

“Our dear leader is a hybrid, like you.” Vecna murmurs while turning the blade in S.T.E.V.E. abdomen “Or even better… he is an android thanks to you. It’s a pity that you will never see him again.”

This is it.

This is the moment he will get turned off forever.

The image that flashes in his mind is a blond guy above him, the sound of the wave of a sea he has never seen, and a voice that whispers in his ear “I love you, Steve.”

Ok, time for the long and probably incoherent reaction to what I saw. Just parts of the story mode, a bit of character endings though I tried to avoid it, and a bit of the menus and stuff. Under the cut

For reference, I started at what seemed to be Ashrah’s chapter and went until Kuai Liang’s. Conveniently my favs!

The girl was indeed Khameleon!! And she looks so pretty! If I had any doubts I needed the dlc pack, they’re gone now

The dlc (non guests) and kameos seem all to be un story mode? I wasn’t expecting for this. This is nice

Jerrod is in Ermac! That was it, right?? He’s there! We always knew but I don’t think we had anything as explicit as he calling for Sindel

I know that Lin Kuei chapter was probably a disappointment to everyone and while I would also have liked for Bi-Han to be less of a dick but it’s Mortal Kombat, guys, the characters don’t usually step out of their boxes often. His box is of a bad guy. The chapter was pretty much what we all could have expected. In fact, I think everything there was successfully predicted without any leaks

That being said, it was hilarious that you could see the gears turning in Bi-Han’s brain as soon as he saw the money. I never saw him as someone that cared much about money. Power, yes, obviously, but not money. Then again I best know him after death and I guess money doesn’t matter when you’re dead

Kuai got the scar!! And I think that only after seeing it my brain finally accepted that that man is really Kuai Liang. Like, I knew it, and I think he was always called by his name, but he looks so different that it hadn’t really clicked. Until the scar

I saw a post the other day that said it's weird when people say “[muse name] is so spicy right now” because, in their words, “people who do that are just writing smut as a self-insert fantasy to get off to" I thought that was kind of reductive and untrue and it kind of highlights a growing issue I’ve noticed in the RPC and I kind of just wanted to talk about it from my own perspective.

I am an asexual, aromantic, and nonbinary afab person. My most consistently present roleplay muse for the past 4 years is a cis man I headcanon to be bisexual and biromantic. I feel like it should be somewhat obvious that this is not a self insert fantasy for me, but if it's not that obvious, I'll try to explain.

Initially, I based Caleb's sexuality off an admittedly narrow perception of his canon background. I interpreted his relationship with Francis as romantic partially because at the time, I thought “There’s no heterosexual explanation for how emotional Caleb gets whenever he thinks about Francis, so therefore he must have been in love with this man.”

In addition to that, Caleb had 2 failed relationships after Francis died and there’s nothing dictating what gender(s) those partners were.

I was also partially motivated by spite. How many times has everyone heard “ugh not every close emotional bond between two men has to be gay 😒” ? How many times has that been used to shut down any conversation on the question of sexuality when it involves two male characters? I was sick of it.

I used to say that though. Before I knew any better. I'd see two characters who had a connection I liked seeing as platonic, and instead of reasoning that it's perfectly valid to interpret these characters how you want, I would be like “no. absolutely not. these characters aren't gay because the author didn't write them to be and didn't say they were and actually it's pretty homophobic to think the only way men can be emotionally vulnerable is if they're gay” which is…STUPID lmao don't be like Past Me. That was a DARVO tactic and a particularly shitty one at that. I'm not like that anymore and I'm glad I learned to do better.

Anyways... I love shipping, but I’m less attached to looking through shipping goggles these days and I try not to look at anything from such a narrow point of view anymore. Now whenever I think about the bond between Caleb and Francis, I can see it in a multitude of ways. Which is the same way I see his bond with Dolores in season 3 and his bond with Maeve in season 4. And further how I see potential for ships I develop in roleplay.

But recently I'd been struggling a little bit with truly defining the difference between romantic versus platonic ideals. Most of the generic definitions I see out there describe romantic attraction as being “the desire to do romantic things with someone” and then the examples listed are something like “kissing, holding hands, getting married, spending time together, etc.” and I'm just like “okay what about when people do those things *without* romantic attraction involved?”

Like it just breaks my brain. People get married for reasons that aren't out of love sometimes. And as much as I like kiss scenes in fiction and I like writing them when my brain stops short circuiting long enough to actually do that, I think the entire act of putting your mouth on another human’s mouth and sometimes getting tongues or teeth involved in smushing your lips together over and over again is a really weird ritual to show someone you like them. I still write it though because it's cute. As for holding hands and spending time together?? Are we just not supposed to spend time with friends ever? What the fuck.

I stumbled across a video a few days ago by a neuroscientist who has studied the concept of love in the human brain and what she said helped me put things into a better perspective. Someone asked her if there's a good way to differentiate between platonic and romantic relationships when, especially in modern society, we don't have as much separation between the things humans do WITH romantic partners versus in non-romantic relationships and the lines blur more than they used to in the past.

What she said was that romantic love behaves similarly to an obsession or addiction in the brain. It's not just the fact that you want to DO so-called romantic activities with someone, it's more that you want to do them so badly with a specific person, you can't really let go of the thought until you follow the impulse to do it.

Kissing, for example. It's possible you might want to kiss a friend you have a strong platonic bond with, but if you don’t do it, then the interest usually fades and the brain will quickly move on. On the other hand, if you have a crush/partner/spouse/any kind of romantic connection and you want to kiss them, the brain will most likely fixate on the thought of kissing them until you actually go and do something. It will not fully move on until it gets the dopamine hit.

I guess since I’m aromantic, this means that for me, I don’t experience that addictive feeling of wanting to do something with someone so badly that it's all I think about. But I write a muse who is biromantic and does experience romantic attraction, which sort of requires me to know how it works, so I can actually write about it.

I see sexual attraction in a similar way. I’m asexual and in my case, I'm one of the ones who doesn't experience sexual attraction in any way and is not comfortable with being personally involved in sex. But my muse is bisexual and does experience sexual attraction.

So I decided to start writing smutty things last year and I had a couple reasons for it. The first is that I had never actually written smut before so it was something new to try, and practice would mean I would get better at it.

The second was that I have watched, for years, many of my mutuals routinely participate in sexy sunday and similar things. It probably sounds kind of like peer pressure, but it wasn’t like anyone was really encouraging me to do anything or not do anything. It was more like after years and years of existing in my own bubble of never engaging in it, I wanted to see what I was missing. Completely my choice.

Thirdly, after tackling the subjects of “where the fuck do you put your hands?” “does this position sound physically possible? or...comfortable?” and the like, writing simple kiss scenes or non-sexual intimacy no longer feels like a monumental task that I mentally freeze up on the second I realize I have to write.

For a while it also got very hard for me to figure out when someone wanted to ship with me versus when they didn’t. I was afraid to ask. I started overthinking everything to the effect of “what if they think I’m being presumptuous and pressuring them into writing a romantic relationship they don’t want?” or “what if they are afraid to tell me they actually Are interested in a ship in case i think they’re trying to pressure me into it instead?”

There was also quite a bit of “oh god what if they see that i wrote my muse on a date with someone in a certain location and when i put our muses in that same location for a different thread they think it’s a date too when it’s not?” or even “what if a mun of a duplicate muse sees me writing a ship with a different partner writing the same muse and they start thinking i’m only writing with them to add them to a weird little collection or something?” and all the social anxiety I fall victim to when my mental health gets tanked by stress and depression.

All of this to say, now that I’ve climbed back out of the pit of despair I fell into… I don’t think anything is as simple as “people only write shipping to fulfill the desire for a relationship/people only write smut to fulfill their own sexual desires.” I think you have to take it on a case by case basis and not make broad assumptions. Otherwise all you're gonna do is alienate people over things that really don't matter.

Plus, maybe it's just that “[muse name] is feeling so spicy right now!” is a lot quicker and easier to say than “the part of my subconscious imagination that [muse name] occupies is telling me that if this muse were a real person, they would be feeling sexually aroused right about now and I'm willing to write about it!” so like. Y’know.

so it starts with Marcy needing to get a few more body parts replaced while she's in the rejuvenation tank. I refuse to believe Amphibian tech is powerful enough to help you regrow a spine.

between her new metal spine, the nanofluid she has instead of blood, the wires she has instead of some nerves, and the fact that when she gets the wetsuit switched out for armor she probably doesn't have skin underneath the exosuit in some places... yeah, O&Y goes... a bit differently.

because augmentations had already been made to her body, Marcy fresh out of the pickle jar isn't quite Marcy at all. she's not the Core, but her mind is mostly empty space. her memories are, bit by bit, being removed and replaced. even so, she still remembers Anne and Sasha (just barely).

the Core doesn't conjure up any nightmares for her like it does for Yunan and Olivia, because it knows she's not going to react and she's as good as theirs.

she doesn't fight the helmet because she doesn't remember how. the scream has no emotion behind it besides pain.

(there are a bit more wire implants in her brain than in canon, too.)

the minds in the Core are also a lot more mixed together. it's a slightly more neutral entity (it sees conquering worlds as a necessity, and gets no real emotion or pride from it) and to help combat the general greed of the Leviathan consciousnesses within it, numbs down emotions. it's still extremely intelligent, just more mechanical in its functions than canon.

whatever's left of Marcy's hollow psyche is assimilated into the Core when the helmet falls, smothered beneath millennia of code and artificial intelligence and programming.

the Darcy persona we're familiar with (the sadistic, "quirky" one) does exist for a while, at least until Marcy's muscle memory fades along with everything else, and then its replaced with a cold, calculating machine, rigid and yet unnaturally graceful and very much not human.

there is no real "freeing" Marcy because there isn't any "Marcy" left to free. because the Core is more neutral, Anne and Sasha and even Andrias can persuade it that there are better ways to restore Amphibia, but they aren't getting their friend back, because their friend is dead.

the Core tried to rummage through whatever files it had saved of Marcy's memories, but there was never enough to bring her back. everything it tried was Wrong somehow, even though there was still a tiny sliver of Marcy left - one of naive curiosity and a longing for warm arms and warmer smiles.

Anne and Sasha were in denial for a while. they wanted to believe that Marcy was back, and the thing that used to be Marcy wanted her to be back, too. but eventually, they were forced to accept it, and they finally let themselves mourn.

(when they were little, Anne gave Sasha and Marcy a friendship necklace with only two parts instead of three. "it's my heart," she explained. "I'm giving half of it to each of you." they buried Marcy's half of the necklace in lieu of a body.)

even the Core - the thing that had caused this, the thing that supposedly felt no emotion and saw everything as a necessary sacrifice in the grand scheme of things - allowed itself to cry for the loss, just once, when no one was around.

oh do you associate ship in a bottle with Mobius? Out of curiosity can you elaborate on why?

This is gonna be a mix of quick character analysis, an actual explanation, and my mental AMV.

The song is about someone who's self-isolating and putting up a strong front as everything falls apart around them. I think it fits Mobius's arc in PE very well.

The singer (who is really talking to themself in second person) started with a hard-earned self-built space, the glass bottle ("glass ceiling, walls, and floor", doesn't that imagery remind you of her lab?). This ship in a bottle was built by their own efforts, as somewhere walled away from pain where they demonstrate high skill— just like Mobius and her lab, which she has earned through her hard work and the subsequent recognition, which also becomes the place where she's respected and, well, where she uses her brains.

In particular, "But nothing can touch your happy thoughts anymore" matches up how confident Mobius is shown to be early on, especially with the "picking apart your brain" image. Despite being widely disliked on a personal level, look at how she's completely dominating the conversation when she recruits MEI into MOTH (Mobius: Good News): Mobius was happy and comfortable with her competence in her line of work. The Honkai wasn't that bad yet, it was a challenge (the "blue waves crashing into it", present but not yet threatening), a humbling challenge but a challenge she was thriving off of, eager to uncover its secrets.

"Pick your brain apart and build it again" can also be seen as building the Elysian Realm, but I'd say at this point in the song that's more foreshadowing. The premise is simply: The ship is Mobius's lab, and her lab is her safe space, where she is respected and content to pursue her work. She has earned this place alone, with her own efforts and skills.

Emphasis on alone and self-made for that second stanza, I think it's fairly evident where the metaphor is getting at once we've established the parallel. She's striving to transcend the gods on her own.

The chorus, however, peels off her mask. Things ARE falling apart. In the first round, I'd picture adult Mobius and her actual child self, the one who was abused and decided to make humanity evolve past the weaknesses of flesh as a result.

If the first few stanza are set early on in the timeline, after the chorus we find ourselves after Klein's death. The singer admits to crying, the water rising (can't cope anymore), the glass protection of their safe space is cracking. The ship is leaking water now, and there are many more that have sunk— despite this, the singer carries on.

For Mobius, things are seriously fucked now, and her demeanor has begun to break down. People leave her, either by dying (Klein) or out of disgust (Nuwa and Fuxi) but she still sets out for her goals. She'll do it even if she has to do it alone. That's how she's always done things, but now she carries the weight of those who can't carry on, too.

I'm not factoring ELF Klein here because 1. obvious the song wasn't written for Mobius, and more importantly 2. Mobius never meant for Klein to follow her all the way, she wanted her to be free. She would've LIKED that, but I don't think she DESIRED it, so she left her behind with the Realm. Mobius is very into "if you love them let them go", and I believe she was always planning to set off alone to an extent...

The song points out the singer is losing what kept them sane, and that's absolutely true for Mobius, she started out playful (some of the time) and became much more sullen and cold after Klein's death.

Then the chorus is back, but this time instead of actual child Mobius, I'd see the Sim talking to the real one, trying to tempt her into committing suicide and letting her be the "real and only" one. Instead of the tethering of denying trauma, it's a beckoning towards the abyss, it's turned malicious...

I could see the final chorus as specifically the background to Mobius's goodbyes and the hologram messages Mobius leaves for her creations.

And in the end, has the sim won...?

As we would later see... no, she didn't. The captain kept sailing on her own. Mobius always had her eyes set no closer than the horizon~

so it’s an au loooooosely based on the album how to be a human being by glass animals (i’m holding the album hostage in my brain i love it) and it takes place year-round (high school experience) but the vibes it gives me are simply summer vibes JSJAKAJD (also i see it happening southwest where it’s decently warm year-round anywayyy, so)

it’s mostly just bad decisions and treating each other like shit with a side of “i literally cannot live without you”

obito suffers from general chronic pain from a car wreck he was in where both his parents died. he lives with madara now who is kind of abusive mostly in the strict “be a man” way. emotional repression. that kinda stuff. but if u know me and u know my bc of obito, that doesn’t work for him because he is a Feelings Guy. so he and madara don’t get on very well.

his major area of pain is in his hip/leg/knee/etc and on bad days he’ll use a brace and crutches. on a good day he might not need either, but those are rare. usually he just goes with the crutches and pain meds. this all sucks bc he was a really good basketball player in middle school and definitely would’ve gotten a scholarship later if it weren’t for the injury (happened summer after ninth grade). this really bums him out and madara isn’t exactly happy either, hence depression and general mood swings, etc etc. also most of his emotion comes out in anger or making out with kakashi so. yeaj.

kakashi would be fine except sakumo is sick and he spends any time he has at home caring for him. but he also has to go to school and go to track practice because it’s his only hope of getting a scholarship and getting into college, sakumo’s one dream for him. he also has to work and pay for basically everything he might need because while sakumo can work from home, he often doesn’t have the energy and doesn’t get paid as much anymore (his boss, tsunade, is lenient with sick days because she understands, but she can’t be all forgiving).

he’s also asthmatic on top of this and frequently gets into near-fights with obito over his smoking problem (he doesn’t care if he smokes but he’s not going over to his house ever again and if he pulls out his pack near him kakashi will grab it and throw it as far as he can)

rin is also here, i haven’t figured out her backstory yet but she’s just as fucked up and i know that her parents don’t really care for her either, or like. they have too much lenience. she still wants to become a doctor and she has great grades and stuff, but she also spends any extra time outside of that with kakashi and obito which i’ll elaborate on later. she supports kakashi’s berating of obito’s smoking.

also considering her parents being constrictingly religious and her hating it and becoming a teenage rebel but like. not in the cute media way dsjsjdhsj

no plot outside of kakashi wants to get the hell out, obito’s pissed because he probably won’t be able to but he’s also a little emotionally stunted and can’t admit he’s in love with kakashi and doesn’t want him to leave, and rin just cannot wait to leave this town behind forever.

scenarios i have in mind are:

- obito cares a lot about his car. it’s a dinged up jeep that he bought practically dead, but has fixed up since then to be almost brand new. (still needs a paint job and new seats but it’s perfect otherwise). kakashi and rin steal it in the middle of the night and speed it down the highways outside of town, take it off roading a bit, etc. obito is pissed and almost beats the shit out of them the next day. the only reason he does not is because they run away. he can’t find it in him to hold a grudge since they didn’t actually do any damage to it, but he still gives kakashi a black eye for doing it lmao

- kakashi tries once to hold obito’s hand while they’re sitting on a bench late at night. obito calls him a faggot and kakashi flips him off. he then continues to do it over the next few weeks until obito finally gives up and lets him. he doesn’t not and will not admit that he likes it.

- they have a huge fight at the end of their senior year because kakashi’s leaving and obito’s fucking pissed. obito calls kakashi a whore and accuses him of only using him for gratification and other things he doesn’t mean (he is not entirely wrong), kakashi accuses obito of being an addict and a bunch of things he doesn’t really mean (he is not entirely wrong). they don’t talk to each other until kakashi barges into obito’s house the day before he leaves to start goodbye, and they forgive each other. but obito’s got shit to work through and kakashi admits he won’t be able to focus on obito as much as he should while he’s away. he’ll be back when he finishes.

- in the years following, obito spends most of his time with sakumo, helping him. he’s on an upward recovery, and becomes a better father figure to him that madara ever could be.

- lots of cliff jumping and making out, not necessarily at the same time (but also it can be ;)) nsfw if u want but i’m not gonna talk ab that lmao that’s up for interpretation

- if they do get with rin, it’s years later when they’re all like. healed and better.

- kakashi and obito and rin were great friends as kids and everything was a lot more wholesome before shit went down.

okay so what I was going to post before I noticed I got polls was!! i went through some of my sketchbooks and encountered some sketches i was 🐗 about.. i wanted to share them on here!! I'll put them under a readmore since y'all know I like explaining things 🫣

first off is one of my Steven Universe OC's... pearl!! 😳😃 what pearl? I genuinely could not tell you anymore 🫣 but from what I remember, she was a supporting character to my main OC, Aquamarine (the reveal of the canon aquamarine killed my interest in the show 😭). The two worked on this off-Homeworld ship but rose up against the captain and iirc crash-landed on Earth a long time ago? and Aquamarine was looking for Pearl, who'd lost her memories in the crash. something like that? anyhow I remember feeling like GOD when I decided on that hairstyle! i also like her cape, it's like a translucent bubble around her (was the translucency thing associated with all pearls? I don't remember anymore 😅)

next are some of my bnha 🫣 ocs! They were second year students, if memory serves correctly. truthfully I forgot who they were until I saw the little nametag in the second picture 😶😅

The one on the left is named Ikina Youta, and basically his quirk is that he's like the sun? He can superheat his body, emit light, and funnily enough charge stuff through solar power 😆 A big part of his story was that he was Terrified of his quirk, to the point Aizawa was going to expel him for wasting its potential. His family (he's actually a tie-in to my sister's own characters haha) develop adaptive gear that supports him and keeps him from burning himself alive when he uses his quirk, so now! in his second year! he is breaking ground and testing out the extent of his powers :]

The one on the left is named Uzumeru Tsuyume, and he's actually Recovery Girl's grandson! He has a mix of her and his father's Sandman quirk (i slappa you and you knock out 😈.. which doesn't sound like a superpower at all... LOL!!!), so basically if he touches you you get knocked into a deep restorative sleep. his mother, chiyo's daughter, wasn't a huge fan of him going to UA after helping her mother patch heroes up her whole life, but Tsuyume thought his powers would be most helpful at ground zero and so he went to UA against her wishes. He really looks up to his grannie and has lunch with her twice a week :-] his costume is somewhat of a homage to her, although his friends tease him because it also looks like a racecar driver's outfit, which was not intentional he swears!!!!! but the little racecars on his nightstand tell a different story 👁👁❗ I think, similar to Chiyo, his power is a little draining on him so he's always a little tired and grumpy. he and youta balance each other out :D

they're actually 2/3 of my 2nd year trio! the third member of their group is a birdgirl (i was still debating how Bird i wanted to make her before i abandoned bnha..) named Koetaka Hanami, whose power is basically being an Offensive Opera Singer... her hero name is even Coloratura 😆😎🤠 she's a huge fan of Present Mic and resembles him in some ways... She brings the heat and muscle in their trio! Tsuyume does most of the support work (although sometimes it's nice to have him smack someone just to knock them out lol) and Youta does a lot of person-to-person stuff.. i have forgotten the word for this just now </3 he can also be a human flare so that's pretty useful! but Hanami is the one running in and taking care of the baddies, with her glass-breaking voice haha

I moved on from bnha after the first movie (iirc? whichever one i-island was..) so I have no idea how they'd fit into the overall plot anymore teehee! they are just fun little dolls for my brain now :]

finally are some doodles of the one... the only.... mister sergio joestar dun dun dun! He's actually why I went digging through my sketchbooks to begin with haha!

i remember really wanting to capture his fuckt up Dad Hair + sideburns.. i think the left one does it the most justice- my sketchy style makes his hair lose the plot in the right drawing hehe. anyhow the context of the left sketch is that josuke was an evil baby and would constantly pull on his scarf, but. sergio refused to ever take it off because it was a present and reward for his swagrannie lisa lisa :') so he would just let josuke choke him out.. imagine he's doing the goku laugh, u know the one!

the right drawing is just the lament o' sergio to me. I forget the context but I think that look of mild concern/apprehension suits his journey pretty well.... POV you can sense Dio within a 100 mile radius (plot twist he is having his hot girl summer in japan and is unaware of ur existence 🤪🤪)

my first and i think Only drawing of giorno is here too! i wanted to try an animal crossing style out on him.. when I drew this I wanted to get more into an AC style for my cutesy drawing, to complement the looser and :3-ier style I would use that you can see to his left. i think it turned out nicely! I think the sketch on his left is of my main YOI character, but. your guess is as good as mine lol!

seeing these made me want to pick drawing back up again and maybe commit to doing some studies/use references! I've never done a study of anything and my use of references is. light at best <3 so these really are Pure Sketchies and Doodlies ur honor. i wonder what more serious art from me would look like!

If you listen really carefully in the sneak peek the last thing EJ says before Ricky slaps him is “Lily” my guess is Ricky got mad when EJ mentioned Lily for some reason.

Ok let me preface that I am sick today. I woke up at like 1am really sick, and at one point scrolled through Tik Tok when I couldn't sleep, and I stumbled on stuff that really sent me to a new level of angry and disappointed and hopeless.

I'm not going to share more on that, it's out there on Tik Tok for anyone who wants to go in search of it. But yeah, after the night I had, I'm in a crap mood. And I'm still not feeling well and ended up having to call off work. So I'm a grumpy pants this morning.

I say all that to disclaim: read ahead at your own risk. You will encounter a grump, pessimistic, bummed me.

All that being said, with the way this season is going I have had a feeling all along that they were going to break up Portwell for Gicky and make it EJ's fault so that fans would be in further support of Ricky and Gina, and not hang onto Portwell.

At this point with the current narrative, I feel like Ricky hitting EJ is going to be framed as EJ being the bad guy (and I feel like if EJ were to have hit Ricky instead, it would also be framed to make EJ the bad guy to be honest).

Oddly enough, at one point I also noticed "hmm, he just said 'Lily', didn't he?" in the promo, glad that wasn't me imagining things and you noticed it too.

We know from the episode description that some real buttons are pushed causing EJ to think he took things too far. I know that's about the situation overall but I'm assuming this is a specific example of that.

My guess is that things get heated between Ricky and EJ, and EJ says something that's a real low blow and crossing a line, and Ricky reacts by slapping him without thinking.

And I think we'll get Gina, already upset about the letter, now saying "how could you say that, what's wrong with you?" to EJ as opposed to the girl who seemed to infer she was in love with EJ last episode being upset with her friend for hitting her boyfriend who didn't deserve it.

Because, this is where the shitty part of my brain that overanalyzes and ruins surprise parties and is subconsciously collecting information and observing human behavior kicks in...

If Ricky hits her boyfriend, but it all still seems to be leading to Portwell breakup and building up wanting the audience to root for Ricky and Gina, then I don't think for one moment the slap can be framed as unjustified by Ricky. It has to work in his favor. And with only a couple episodes left until the finale, I don't think there's time for Gina to be upset with Ricky about it and then come back around by the finale (and supposedly prior to that ep).

I frankly don't think there's even time for Portwell to truly reconcile about the letter and then fall apart again for a breakup.

Unfortunately I think it makes more sense for the story they seem to be telling that this slap will be another nail in the coffin for Portwell. Another thing EJ does that causes a further rift between them, with the letter incident having already popped their Honeymoon bubble. It seems, looking at the timeline remaining, that Portwell having problems can only gain momentum from here, not reverse course.

That is my incredibly pessimistic, I'm sick and uncomfortable and haven't slept, I hate that this is the way they're going about this entire season and storyline when this show is capable of so much more and there are so many better ways to do it that are so obvious, hot take. I cannot find an ounce of optimism at this point.

I'm sorry to drag everyone down but...after seeing the stuff I did, I'm just done. I just can't anymore.

It's been so so long since a ship won my heart, and the experience of shipping and sharing that with others was as joy-inducing as this one has been. Even with the toxic part of this fandom, everyone has been lovely outside of that corner of hell - even outside of fellow Portwell shippers. Last summer was so wonderful as a result, especially finally coming out of isolation (and I mean all alone hadn't hugged anyone in well over a year, going nowhere, zero risk isolation) after lockdown. It's hard to just make that stop or have it end when I'd been wanting more, but it seems like the show is making that choice for me.

Brain came up with ABO social commentary BNHA fic. Not shipping or mindless smut but a play on how society is even more messed up due to ABO being a part of society. (I was coming out of sleep and I’m not even in the fandom only read a few rottmnt crossover fics and watch analysis videos)

Deku is having an inner monologue about what’s happen so far (I don’t remember much) and how ABO isn’t a great thing and how hero - not even just hero society- but humanity is set back completely by it.

There is a visual for the audience with deku and kaa-Chan (?? Angry explosion guy??) in beds as a side by side. Deku starts out with out friends and gains them once he was declared Alph and he’s swarmed with people while Kaa -Chan starts out with a few but doesn’t have any until the last panel is a single child being petted on the head by kaa-Chan (likely a younger sibling).

Also to note is All Might was sent to jail or was seen captured and probably killed??? It looked like he was in some kind of suit with the helmet off as he smiled and made a speech (it’s a flashback as Deku is thinking).

Things don’t go 100% beat by beat in canon and are drastically changed. For one Deku is a full hero with a license and is working solo while everyone is in agencies that’s either first responders type or teams.

Hmmm the tags in my head showed no ship tags and this is a purely a story fic of a serious au. No missed characterization or bashing, just people acting like people in a messed up under the surface world of over powered individuals.

Two other things are occurring but these are main events and the guy gets carded all over and he goes up the Titan after this after a few flicks it's not really that many because this fleet is out and he has to get power and get ships and you think that'll do it and he thinks he can hit the empire and take over the whole thing and stuff like that and it is a different class laser it's much more powerful than the next empire rounded laser which is true and you can use splitters and you can hit most of the ones that can hit you there's a strategy to it but mostly works and people see it so he's going to try and do it he's actually getting ready for it he's going to get ships out big ones and he's going to be in menace again and he's going to face Tommy f and the pseudo empire and others and he will be weakened severely then he will be defeated and he will have a portion of Titan and the warlock will hold it and fight eternally over the laser and then they will lose in the battle over Titan it's not curascant and attack on Titan begins and then is up there and he is in human form and leaves and he goes in several movies but really this is all starting now because they're leaving and they're losing tons of power for him to disappear forever really is going to croak but there are other things going on but he is kicked out and goes nuts and tries to get back like a madman lose his tons of stuff before he leaves for Titan and the execute him on Calgary and it is before the start killer incident and that forces him to get up there and he clears out a bunch of pseudo empire heavy spaceships and they fired a few times and they grabbed another one they grab a bunch of them and they take out the pseudo empire and they go up there while they're doing it to try and raise a fleet and that's coming up real quick there's a reason for it and Hera wants to announce it and we of course will allow it

-off of Mars does big conflict and it's worth them but they're going at it heavily it's a pseudo empire and the warlock and they are crushing each other that's strange off planets that happens Tommy f is not there right now Tommy Allen and his and Trump versus the pseudo empire and they both have about three billion ships and then arriving for a few hours and they're going to start firing now they are they're both out about a billion ships and it brings the numbers down the warlock we're at 12 billion and that's Macklemore lock and now they're at 10:00 and in moments 9:00 yeah someone was b*********** and it's not us and the pseudo empire is down to about 14 billion and soon they'll be down to 11 billion they're going to send more and the fleet left an entirety of course is going to be 9 billion and they will probably heat up and try and try for a Venus to capture me they say they're heating up a billion and it's probably Trump and he will lose and down to 8 billion actually the world will wage on and I am informed and I did check they plan to send another three out there each that will bring it down to about 6 billion and 5 billion pseudo empire and then more lock Max and it is going to be horrible for them that's pretty low that includes the whole thing though the fleets are kind of scattered. I am now told her heating up and ships are moving in and there's 3 billion opposing ships and foreigners are sending one Max deciding two we're standing in contingent and seriously within there's a huge number and it should be handled it makes the others nervous but that's what they're doing 9 billion at this time about 4 billion are trumpsters and the next few battles will whittle them to very small numbers and BJ at the time I try and take them over more shortly

The other game! explanation (an undertale au)

If you want to skip the back story I’ve marked we’re you can start reading for What the world is.(it’s in red)

I feel like I’ve never called it and undertale au but that’s what it is. Okay so the other game is a world that me and my sister have been working on for years (when i say years i mean it started august of 2019)

My sister and I were very cringy and started an undertale role playing game. I was Chara and Sans and she was asriel and frisk. We basically just played there day to day lives on the service and we had a lot of fun with it.

This was 2018 and i didnt know how to draw boys at the time (did other people have that struggle?) So when I had the thought of making an au where they are all humans I decided to make them girls instead.

Eventually I changed it so the errors, nightmares, and epic were all boys and dream, cross, and ink stayed girls. I proposed playing this game with my sister too and we did.

I picked those six because there (in my opinion and observation) the most popular (epic I just really like.)

She generally only plays as a dream and occasionally epic.

I'm the rest.

We didn't have a name for it so we just called it “the other game” we had the undertale game (or utg for short.) so we just referred to it as the other game we did have the intention to name it eventually but we never did so “the other game” just stuck.

Their characters grew with us, it was so fun to play with character designs as an artist and backstories, turning the things that the original characters have and “humanifing” them was really fun, like for instance dreams constant urge to have to be perfect. What do you think that would do to a human teenage girl who lives in a regular human society?

We ended up changing a lot about them as we went on, epic’s gender changed and they over all grew as people with me.

Nightmare has always been a bit of a favorite of mine so naturally I connected with him, but all the characters have struggles.

We dug into their mental health a lot as well. Giving explanations for things that only their monster counterparts should have like errors glitches we ended up just using tourettes as “glitching out” we got into how their brains would work in these different circumstances.

Dream and Nightmare’s relationship is stable and seeing how that ended up affecting their characters. Making error and nightmare warm up to the group was one of my favourite character developments to play with.

To sum up the world there human versions of those six who’s genders vary. They're just this cute friend group.

I’ve worked so hard on this world that I thought why keep it to myself anymore share it.

I also want to mention that there are ships if you don’t agree with them I’m completely fine with that. But the world really doesn’t rely on the ships for plot. (I did pick these ships when I was nine and can’t bring myself to change them so give me a break.)

Dream and epic- I may have to explain this bc I’ve never seen this ship once in my life but I thought it was cute, like dreams friends with cross so that’s how they met idk I’ll explain that more in detail if someone wants me to.

Cross and nightmare- okay so I know this one’s a hit or miss with people but nightmare is a lot more like passive or even dreamswap so it works better ig

again I was nine when I picked this and I think it’s too late to change it we have to much plot around them

Another note is they are the only “ship” that doesn’t even happen really they end up never dating they had like a situationship (even though I hate that term) and it just never happened. Nightmare has a boyfriend who I made for the game and cross is happily single I can explain that more too if anyone wants me to.

That was a lot but I hope I find at least one other person who I can rant about this to bc I think my irl friends are sick of me talking about it.

Prompt (given to me by @inrice): but could you do something along the lines of the cullens (mainly alice) takes upon the job of raising a werewolf!reader? who's a child of course.

Summary: Alice Cullen stumbles upon a very strange, very lonely child while out on a hunt and, in true Cullen fashion, decides to take them home. Nobody knows how to take care of a werewolf or a child, but when they put in a collective effort (and bring in the help of Bella) things start getting easier...

Warning: Is this kidnapping? It might be kidnapping, fluff, slightly angsty at some parts, AU because Caius is cruel, and potentially odd genderless terms of endearment.

A/n: family fic makes the brain go brrr. so like i didn't really know how to handle the whole werewolf thing because the twilight lore is so... bare... and i wanted to write more on the family parts so it's not like a real focus but it is mentioned quite a bit. I hope that's okay! /gen

Alice wasn’t able to foresee you.

She simply stumbled across you one day on a hunt, your tiny body curled up at the base of a tree. You smelled so much of dog she almost mistook you for one, and then you looked up at her with big y/e/c eyes and she knew.

Carlisle wasn’t very happy when she brought you home.

“The Volturi will have a field day with this.” He says as he repacks his doctor bag. “The child is dangerous to have around.”

“But they're all alone, Carlisle. You said it yourself, they looked like they were out there for days— and I waited there with them until nightfall, no one came…”

Her shoulders fall and she looks at the door separating them from the rest of the family.

“Oh please just let them stay, we’ll all take care of them— if anything we’re better suited for it than anyone!”

Carlisle opens his mouth to protest but is interrupted by Esme opening the door, you asleep in her arms. All of his hesitance melts away at the sight, and at the sound of your small snores.

He sighs. “Fine, the child can stay— but we have to be careful.”

Alice nearly erupts with her joy, and Carlisle tries to hide a smile.

They give you a nice bedroom.

Rosalie, Alice, and Esme take an entire day to shop, nearly clearing out three children’s stores in the process. They build you furniture and they paint the walls a pretty shade of y/f/c; you now own more toys and clothes than a kid can possibly comprehend.

You spend the day with Emmett, the only Cullen boy who’s comfortable getting close to you, and he introduces you to the wide range of children’s cartoons. Your browsing ended with Crashbox, something that had the big man far more into it than you, but it was fun nonetheless.

“Want to see your room, Y/n?” Rosalie hums, poking her head around the corner and flashing you a dazzling smile.

The ladies let you wander around the new space, excitement brightening your features.

Emmett is still enraptured by the TV long after you’re put to bed.

Most days are good days.

Even if two of the family members seem a little afraid of you, you’re happy. You’re fed and clothed and loved.

But then there are bad days.

You wouldn’t eat. Nothing Esme made you was satisfactory and you were too upset and overwhelmed to let anyone know what you wanted; everyone tries to comfort you, even Jasper with his powers, but none of it really seems to work.

And then Edward comes home.

He left at some point during the crying and everyone figured that he was just bailing ship like he usually does when it comes to you. But, in reality, he somehow managed to get a cohesive reading of your mind and immediately went to someone who could help him.

“I brought Bella.” He says, gesturing awkwardly at his equally awkward girlfriend when five sets of frustrated eyes land on him.

“And I brought chicken nuggets…” The brunette human raises the bag up with a smile.

Everyone watches in confusion as you perk up a bit.

“Uh, here.” Bella crosses the room and places the bag down in front of you.

You open the bag and immediately start eating, sniffling but no longer upset. Every Cullen is reeling in shock.

“Well. What do you have to say to Bella?” Alice clears her throat, giving you an encouraging smile.

“Thank you, Bella.” You mumble, mouth full of food.

“Oh- it was actually Edward’s idea.”

You turn and thank him, beaming, and he gives you a crooked smile in return.

Afterward, Edward doesn’t really avoid you anymore.

Alice doesn’t like to think about it, but sometimes the implication that someone bit and infected you consumes her mind and it makes her want to cry.

On the days they go to school, you do too.

They figure it’s good for you to spend time with other kids your age, and it seems to be. You always come home with crazy stories of playtime adventures and smelling of paint and crayons; the teachers love you, or more so the bright little woman who picks you up from school.

“Draw your family.” The teacher encourages one day.

You draw the Cullens.

When you proudly hand it to Alice when she picks you up from school, she lifts you up in a hug. Jasper frames your little drawing and puts it up next to all of their graduation caps.

The full moon is pretty horrific.

In order to keep everyone safe from your tiny claws, they keep you in the basement. For hours before the transformation, you just lie down there and wail-- you’re only little, it’s only fair.

Alice sits outside and talks to you the whole time, her voice wavering and her hands shaking.

She doesn’t move after the wails turn into howls, even if it would be safer to do so.

“Does Jasper hate me?”

You��re wrapped up in bandages, sitting on the picnic blanket with your adoptive mother and eating a sandwich too big for you as her husband pretends to do something down by the water. Alice is completely blindsided. They’ve sort of explained what they are to you, and you’ve kind of filled in blank spaces to the best of your ability, but she’s still unsure how to explain Jasper’s hesitance.

She doesn’t wind up having to.

“No,” He says, sitting down next to you and wrapping an arm around your shoulders, “I don’t. I’m actually quite fond of you darlin’.”

That alone seems to satisfy you and, over time, he loosens up a bit.

Jasper seems happier than he has in a while, listening to you talk about things little kids talk about, and Alice watches fondly with a smile.

One of them reads a story and tucks you into bed every night.

Most times it’s Alice, sometimes Jasper joins in.

Tonight is one of those nights. You’re clean and showered, dressed in a cute little pajama set, and nestled under the covers; she’s lying down next to you, Goodnight Moon open in her hands, and he’s in a chair next to the bed.

“... goodnight noises everywhere.” She finishes, smiling at your drooping eyes and lulling head.

Carefully, she unwinds herself from you and, with the help of her husband tucks the blanket under your sides. You tug your favorite stuffed animal close to your chest, y/e/c eyes closed, and a smile on your little face.

“Goodnight, y/n.” “Night, kid.” They each say, Alice bending down to kiss your head and Jasper opting to stand there and smile.

“G’night mom and dad.”

Jasper’s eyes nearly bulge out of his head and he turns to face his wife quickly.

Alice Cullen, the girl who forgot half of her life, never felt more whole than she did standing in your room, holding her mate’s hand, and turning off the light as the hushed sound of a cricket’s song filled the big house...

Follow-up to this post. Not in any particular order, just spitballing ideas, with contributions from several friends on discord.

Like presumably it takes long enough for them all to meet up again that Anakin and Cody do, in fact, end up treating each other like family, just so I can have that good good "well, guess I'm Dad now" energy. Shmi isn't entirely sure what's going on but she's not a slave anymore and her kid seems to like this rando mando, so.

Anakin gets to have a mom and two dads, though one of the dads is arguably younger than him.

Also when they all meet up again and Cody explains the "General Skywalker got shrunk" thing, there are three reactions: (General) Obi-Wan: Oh, Anakin. Obi-Wan: [gestures to take him, ends up with an armful of clingy padatoddler] Anakin: You can't blame this on me, Obi. Obi-Wan, a little teary, because babies cause emotions: Of course I can, you absurd human being. ------ Rex: That's... my general. Anakin: I am, Captain. Rex: Cool cool cool I'm gonna go stand where I can't, uh, break you. Anakin: I'm not THAT fragile! ------ Ahsoka: [gasp] Skyguy is SKYKID! Anakin: Padawan, this is-- Ahsoka, grabbing him and cuddling: Oh my goodness you're adorable this is the best day ever. Anakin: This is humiliating, Snips, put me down. Ahsoka: Never.

Anakin hates being a toddler because of the lack of independence but Cody keeps picking him up when he's cranky and just holding him until he falls asleep and that's... nice.......

- The brain limitations aren't quite as bad as the situation with Sokanth and Ylliben in the other AU, but - Even if his brain is mostly adjusted he’s still got a tiny body with different needs that he’s not used to. Like, he needs to sleep more but he’s got more energy than usual when he’s awake and it’s all weird.

Cody carrying around toddler Anakin like "God you give me ulcers but you're adorable, you little shit."

Inconveniently tiny body aside, Anakin has a pretty great time in this au. His family are all together and safe and within reach. His wife isn't around, but toddler brain means he doesn't have the Romance Drive, so that's not as bad as it could be It could be significantly worse.

You know how you need to keep an eye on toddlers so they don't, like, fall down the stairs or put something toxic in their mouth? - They need to keep an eye on Anakin specifically so he doesn't rewire the ship they're in while they're in hyperspace. - He has less self control on account of being smol. He still has all the mechanical knowledge! Just less comprehension of y’know, consequences.

Anakin, with a sippy cup: This is demeaning. Ahsoka: Your hands don't work great enough to avoid accidents yet. Anakin: It's still embarrassing.

General Kenobi can't just kill Maul, not when Maul is baby right now (sixteen, which is baby enough) so he just. Kinda. Kidnaps a baby Sith. (It's fine. He's fine.)

General Kenobi (not to be confused with Padawan Kenobi) decides to declare Maul his new padawan because someone has to deal with this teenager, and Plo already claimed the rest of Ahsoka's training. And Anakin's three, so.

"What do we do with Maul?" "Eh, I can handle him. I dealt with teenage Anakin getting arrested for illegal pod-racing twice a month, I can work with this."

Maul bites, but only slightly more often than Anakin, it's fine

Ahsoka definitely bullies Maul whenever possible

Consider: Rex holding very still because Anakin wanted to be tall, so he climbed Rex. Being unexpectedly climbed is better than being unexpectedly yeeted. It's still extremely nerve-wracking. - Cody is perfectly capable of running around with a backpacking toddler General, but Rex freezes like a statue. - Ahsoka finds this hilarious

You know how little kids like to be thrown around and swung in circles and stuff like that? This must get even more ridiculous with force users. Can throw a child real high and catch them safely. - Rex panics whenever Ahsoka throws her chibified Master

Literally everyone except Rex loves being yeeted. Even Maul can appreciate a good tactical yeet no shut up he's not having fun this is TRAINING - Rex is Suffering - Cody, a very Tired Dad, deserves to mock his vod'ika a little, as stress relief - Rex, a certified Little Brother, shoves Cody off something tall. Jokes on him, Cody thinks freefall is fun too.

Tia asked: So the people who didn’t exist yet got flung bodily back in time and Anakin did the mental time travel. Why did Obi-Wan not become Padawan Kenobi? (I mean “because I want it that way” is def a good enough answer I’m just wondering if there’s any reason.) - Which, well, it really was mostly "I want to" but here's two options, both of which come down to Blame Daughter and Father. 1. They figured a responsible adult Jedi Master was needed to convince people. 2. Nobody was supposed to get de-aged but Daughter figured they needed to make Anakin less liable to kill things for a few years. - Also IDK the Force God-Manifestations also took away any risk of rapid aging and early death from the clones because uhhhhhhhhhhh I said so

Rex and Ahsoka are fumbling their way through a relationship where ages are just really confusing and awkward, so they're keeping it to just kisses and cuddles for a bit.

Cody is so tired he doesn't even realize anyone's hitting on him until it's been three years of co-parenting with Shmi and his General. - Somehow Anakin knows Cody is in a relationship before Cody does. Cody has never been so embarrassed. - How did he manage to be less observant than Skywalker? -- it was sabotage; all his brain cells were taken up in managing said Skywalker -- Because Skywalker was up at three in the morning whacking a training droid with a stick so he didn't have the energy for Relationships

Also Shmi's come-ons are super subtle, while the General's are... well, Cody's gotten very used to ignoring anything ambiguous on that end because fraternization rules, and also because Obi-Wan flirts a lot with everyone. So.

Please imagine Cody and General Kenobi walking around with Anakin tucked into a toddler sling while they do whatever work they've ended up with at the Temple. - Yes, Cody is helping the Jedi figure out the best plan of attack to take down this slave ring because his grasp on tactics is phenomenal and he knows how to deploy people at greatest efficiency, but also he's got a nosy toddler on his hip who keeps offering his own insane-but-competent ideas. - General Kenobi ends up with a Council Seat just on account of, like, being the kind of person he is. As often as not, he's got Anakin tucked into his robes, chewing on the ear of a stuffed tooka or something.

IDK what Shmi's doing but apparently Legends had it that some of the administrative and support positions in the Temple were held by non-Jedi civilians? So probably something like that.

GENERAL KENOBI LECTURING PADAWAN MAUL WHILE ANAKIN'S BALANCED ON HIS HIP AND GLARING AT MAUL FOR STEALING HIS DAD

General Kenobi: Ahsoka's babysitting. Anakin: I'm her master, I don't need babysitting, this is-- General Kenobi: Fine, then you need supervision, so that you don't blow up a training salle again. Anakin: And you think Ahsoka would stop me? General Kenobi, eye twitching: Fine, I'm leaving you with Plo.

Even if he’s mentally an adult Anakin always needs supervision Look at canon! Anakin was left without supervision for like two days and he became a Sith

Quinlan gets distracted by how attractive General Kenobi is and tells Obi-Wan "dude, you're gonna be so hot once you can get rid of the stupid haircut" and Obi-Wan pushes him into the nearest pond.

They end up with this weird "Uncle Jango" situation (uncle to Anakin, via weird brotherhood-ish to Cody) because Rex and Cody are just like "Uhhhhhhhhh yeah okay" about him eventually, and Jango just like. Drops by. Trying to Earn Affection Of Blood Kin by bringing weird gifts for them and their (ugh) Jedi.
