Shortly after Jughead was born, Gladys Jones was told that she could no longer have kids. Devastated, she and FP were quick to look into adoption, and found the perfect addition to their family; Francesca.

Francesca Paige Jones grew up on the Southside with her brother Jughead and their miracle sister Jellybean, although she chose to stay on the Southside and not interact with the other side of town, despite knowing that she had a twin sister and biological parents somewhere across the tracks, despite knowing that Jughead was even friends with her twin. But then Gladys and Jellybean move to Toledo, Jughead leaves home, FP helps dispose of Jason Blossom’s body, and suddenly the Northside is paying attention to them. She would have been perfectly happy to fly under the radar, to continue to pretend that she had no ties to the Northside, had she not come face to face with a mirror image of herself named Betty Cooper.

And she almost believed it, until she walked into her first music class of the year, only to find that the teacher was using her grandmother’s name.

CONTO #4 — TALIA WAGNER E REBECCA LEBEAU

Já passava das dez e meia da noite, e o clima estava bem frio, apesar de não estar nevando. Por conta disso, a quantidade de pessoas na rua naquela parte da cidade já havia diminuído consideravelmente. Claro que ainda haviam alguns pedestres caminhando pelas ruas, indo para suas casas, restaurantes ou bares, mas em sua maioria, eram moradores de rua que ficavam vagando pelas ruas a essa hora.

Talia não se incomodava nem um pouco com essas pessoas. Não tinha medo de moradores de rua que pudessem se aproximar por algum motivo e também não tinha medo de eventualmente encontrar alguém disposto a assalta-la, porque ela era uma mutante e tinha certeza de que poderia se virar em uma situação dessas. Coisa que não diminuam sua atenção e cuidado ao andar pelas ruas a noite, obviamente.

No entanto, naquela noite, sua mente estava preocupada com outra coisa mais importante. Estava preocupada com sua prima e em seu paradeiro. Não era a primeira vez que Rebecca havia fugido Instituto onde moravam, mas certamente ela já estava fora há muito mais tempo do que das outras vezes. Havia saído de madrugada e até agora, não sabiam onde ela estava.

O edifício Baxter foi o primeiro lugar onde a procuraram, pela manhã. Geralmente quando ela estava se sentindo particularmente rebelde e tinha vontade de escapar, Rebecca corria para a casa de uma de suas melhores amigas, Valeria Richards. No entanto, tanto ela quanto Franklin disseram não saber onde Rebecca estava.

Não chegaram a se preocupar muito quando não a encontraram lá. Afinal, ela podia ter ido para a casa de um de seus amigos da escola, os amigos que não eram mutantes. Rebecca não tinha o costume de falar sobre eles, mas Vampira e Gambit tinham o contato de pelo menos um deles. Quando também negaram ter visto Rebecca o dia todo, foi quando todos começaram a ficar apreensivos.

A hipótese de que ela poderia ter sido sequestrada por alguém foi levantada por Jimmy e Alexandra, mas Madison e Jason achavam muito improvável. Ninguém teria conseguido entrar no Instituto no meio da noite para leva-la. A não ser…. que ela tenha sido pega assim que saiu.

Mas novamente, a hipótese foi contestada. Se ela tivesse sido pega por alguém, já teria entrado contato com eles. A não ser…

Talia Balançou a cabeça, tentando não pensar nos piores cenários. Ela preferia pensar que Rebecca só havia fugido outra vez. Não sabia o que ela pretendia fazer, nem para onde iria, mas precisava acreditar que era somente um ato de rebeldia adolescente.

As buscas por ela pelo condado de Westchester começaram no fim da tarde. Os membros da GeneXt que estava livres se separam para procura-la, mas até aquele momento, nenhum deles estava tendo sucesso. Estavam ficando cansados, e assim que a meia noite chegasse, eles retornariam para a escola e continuariam no dia seguinte.

Só que Talia só estava disposta a voltar para casa depois de encontrar a prima.

Cansada de ficar rodando sem rumo, a jovem mutante teve um pequena intuição e resolveu entrar em um pequeno parque. Andou por alguns minutos, observando atentamente tudo ao seu redor e as pessoas que passavam por ela. Nenhuma delas percebia que ela era uma mutante, graças a seu indutor de imagem que fazia com que ela tivesse a aparência normal de uma jovem de 20 anos. Se pudessem ver sua aparência de verdade, duvidava que eles a ignorariam daquele modo.

Demorou pelo menos 10 minutos em sua pequena busca e assim que já estava pronta para sair do parque em busca de um novo local para continuar, sentiu uma onda de alívio tomar conta de si.

Rebecca havia acabado de se sentar em um dos bancos disponíveis, próximo a um poste de luz. Ela tirou a mochila das costas, vasculhou a mesma por um momento e então colocou ao seu lado. Iria usar a mochila como um travesseiro e dormiria no banco daquele parque, Talia constatou.

— Encerrem as buscas. — Talia disse em seu comunicador, antes de se aproximar da prima, que ainda não a havia visto. — Já estou com a Rebecca.

— Onde ela está? — Ouviu a voz ansiosa de Olivier, o irmão gêmeo de Rebecca, e um pequeno sorriso surgiu em seus lábios.

— Ela está bem? — Agora era Maddie quem questionava.

— Parece que está bem. Voltem pra casa e nos esperem lá. Contamos tudo assim que chegarmos.

E com isso, ela desligou o comunicador. Não queria que nenhum deles ficassem falando em seu ouvido enquanto conversava com a prima, e também não queria que eles aparecessem ali, nem mesmo Olivier. Ela queria conversar com Rebecca a sós.

Aproximou-se lentamente, não querendo assustar a garota.

— Becca?

A mais nova levantou assim que ouviu seu nome, sem se alarmar. Por um momento, pareceu irritada, mas Talia logo pode ver que ela estava apenas muito cansada e desconfortável.

— Você quase nos matou de susto, Becca! Estamos te procurando o dia inteiro! Achamos que você poderia estar com problemas, ou machucada! Estávamos muito preocupados!

Rebecca não disse nada por um momento. A irritação voltou a tomar conta de seu rosto e ela deu de ombros.

— Acho um pouco difícil de acreditar. — Ela resmungou, desviando o olhar para não encarar a mais velha. — Ninguém naquela droga de lugar gosta de mim. E os que não me odeiam me ignoram.

A mutante mais velha suspirou, e se sentou ao lado de Rebecca, depois de dizer um rápido “chega pra lá.”

— Vamos começar pelo começo. Ninguém te odeia. — Talia olhou para a mais nova, que ainda fugia de seu olhar. — Não vou dizer que você é a pessoa mais popular na escola, porque realmente não é. Você despreza praticamente todo mundo lá e deixa bem claro que não gosta muito de ser uma mutante. Isso realmente não te faz ser amada. Mas ninguém te odeia.

— Não é o que parece. É por isso que eu queria dar o fora daquele lugar.

Talia jogou a cabeça para trás.

— Esqueça o resto então. E quanto ao seus pais? E o seu irmão? Os três estavam loucos de preocupação com você! — Rebecca não respondeu nada, apenas continuou a encarar o chão. — Além disso, pra onde você iria, exatamente?

— Não sei. — Finalmente resmungou. — Eu ainda estava pensando nisso. Só sei que eu ia para longe. Onde ninguém me conhecesse. Ondeu eu pudesse ser eu mesma.

Talia suspirou. Não queria lhe passar um grande sermão, sabia que Vampira e Gambit fariam isso assim que elas retornassem, mas não podia deixar de falar algo sobre o assunto.

— Olha, Becca… eu sei que você não gosta do Instituto e sei que você gostaria de ter uma vida normal, como suas amigas da escola. Mas você só tem 15 anos. Você não tem pra onde ir agora e a pior coisa que você pode fazer é ficar andando por ai sozinha. Já pensou o que poderia ter acontecido caso você esbarrasse um vilão que nos conhece? Ou acabasse cruzando seu caminho com algum bandido? Algum cara que poderia te sequestrar ou algo assim?

— Eu não…

Mas a mais velha não deixou que ela continuasse.

— Você está se arriscando. Se eu não te encontrasse você iria o que? Dormir aqui no frio? O que iria comer amanha? E se algum maluco tentasse se aproveitar de você? Sair desse jeito foi uma ideia muito idiota.

— Eu sei. — Rebecca disse por fim, parecendo finalmente disposta a dar o braço a torcer. As palavras de Talia foram suficientes para lhe assustar.

— Se sabe, porque não voltou? — A mais nova deu de ombros e Talia soube o motivo. Orgulho. — Olha, acho que até seus pais sabem que o Instituto talvez não seja seu lugar. Mas você ainda vai ter que nos aturar por pelo menos três anos. Assim que fizer dezoito, você pode sair e viver sua vida do jeito que quiser. Pode ir fazer faculdade em outro estado, pode ir viajar pelo mundo… fazer o que quiser! Vamos sentir sua falta, mas você vai ser livre pra seguir seu caminho. Por hora… você ainda é nova demais.

Talia olhou para Rebecca. Por mais que ainda parecesse bem relutante, ela podia ver que a mais nova estava pensando no que ela havia dito.

— Eu também vou sentir sua falta. — Ela disse por fim, fazendo a mais velha sorrir. — Você é uma das únicas legais lá. — Então rebecca suspirou, e olhou para frente. — Mas três anos ainda é muito tempo em um lugar que você não se encaixa. Onde ninguém gosta de você. Eu não tenho amigos por lá, TJ.

Talia passou o braço pelos ombros da prima.

— Vamos dar um jeito de tornar sua estadia mais suportável. — Propôs. — Mas pra eu te ajudar você precisa me ajudar. Se prometer ser um pouquinho mais tolerante, acho que vai fazer novos amigos. Também posso te apresentar para outras equipes, quem sabe você não faz amizade com outras pessoas de fora? Os Jovens Vingadores, os Novos Mutantes, até mesmo a equipe do Luke ou do Jonah… você vai encontrar alguém legal, e ai tenho certeza de que você vai se sentir melhor.

Pela primeira vez na noite, Rebecca abriu um sorriso.

— Também quero que parem de me forçar a treinar. Não tenho interesse nisso no momento.

— Vamos parar. Tem a minha palavra. Mas só se você prometer parar de fugir desse jeito.

— Acho que posso fazer isso.

Sem dizer mais nada, Talia puxou a prima para um abraço, e ela retribuiu o gesto.

— Pronta pra voltar? — Questionou assim que ela e Rebecca se separaram.

— Sim, acho que estou pronta.

— Prefere ir andando ou quer que eu nos teleporte?

Rebecca pensou por um momento.

— Prefiro ir andando, se não se importa. Não quero chegar tão rápido.

— Okay, como preferir.

As duas se levantaram e começaram a fazer o caminho de volta até o instituto. Talia ainda estava preocupada com a rebeldia da prima, mas por hora tudo o que importava era que ela estava bem e que apesar de tudo, estavam voltando para casa.

Me pediram pra fazer alguns contos aqui também, e como eu amo os mutantes, já estou pensando em alguns pra ir fazendo !! Eu tive a ideia desse aqui do nada ontem a noite, e achei que seria legal postar hoje, já que é aniversário da Rebecca e do Olivier ( se bem que o conto não aborda isso lol ) mas enfim...

Eu já to com algumas outras ideias, mas ainda não comecei a escrever, então não sei quando vou postar mais um, espero que logo. Fiquem a vontade pra sugerir mais contos, mandar aqueles pedidos das listas ou pedir contos de um personagem especifico!

Stupidest injury you’ve ever sustained? I find all injuries stupid. People who have known me for years will tell you that I'm just one big accident. If there's a small chance that I'll get hurt – I will get hurt. And if there's no chance that I'll get hurt – I say watch me! Here's my top 3: 1.) The cat startled me and I fell on my back -> got a contusion and was unable to walk for 2 weeks 2.) I was supposed to go out with friends. We were meeting at my best friend’s house. By the time I got there, they'd decided that they didn't really want to go anywhere and were tossing a basketball around. So there I stood in my high heels. Then someone threw me the ball. I stepped weird, fell, and twisted my ankle. Everyone made fun of me for playing ball in heels but... I just stood there and we were supposed to go out. Which I was dressed for. Not sports. 3.) (The injury I'm recovering from right now) A jug (?) broke and somehow managed to flood my legs with boiling water. Now I have 2nd degree burns. Yay!

Place you most want to travel? Somewhere warm where I can just pick an orange or a tangerine off a branch. Preferably very few snakes

Title: Into the Dark

Pairing: Hardy x Hannah

Rating: Adult

Warnings: Stalking, Sexy times

Summary: Alec swore off women after his marriage ended, and Hannah is in no rush to date again after breaking Ben’s heart, but sparks fly when they meet. The only problem is that someone else wants Hannah all to himself. Will Hardy be able to protect her? Will Hannah let him?

Note: I’ve run out of ways to apologize for the wait! I hope you all are still loving this story. I am too, promise, I’ve just been busy with the demands of RL. But getting back into writing on a regular basis, both fic and original works, is a big goal of mine for 2018.

Chapter Fourteen

Hannah was exhausted. She’d spent hours with the police sketch artist, just to get the top half of a face that didn’t look like anyone she recognized. It had been nearly impossible to tell from upside down what the stalker actually looked like, and he’d been wearing a hat. Alec had been able to provide approximate height and build, but it was perfectly average.

As soon as they were done at the station, Alec and Hannah went to buy a security system for Hannah’s house. They wouldn’t be caught unaware again, and if they could catch the stalker on tape, maybe they could catch him once and for all.

When they were finished, Hannah drew all the curtains and checked all the locks while Alec made dinner. They ate in tense silence, not because they were angry with each other, but because there was simply very little to say. They both felt helpless.

Hannah nearly hit the ceiling when her phone rang.

“Hi Sinead,” Hannah said, for Alec’s benefit. He grinned a little at that, but it was taut around the edges.

“Hannah, ye’ve all but disappeared! I never see ye anymore,” Sinead groused.

“I’m sorry. Alec and I went to Broadchurch,” she said, by way of explanation. Hannah didn’t want to tell her about the stalker’s escalated terror, she just wanted to stop thinking about it. She wanted normalcy.

“Ye did? That’s great! Let’s get lunch tomorrow, ye can tell me all about it, yeah?” Sinead said, her words bubbling with infectious joy. Hannah laughed, a real, true laugh.

“Yeah, sure. I’ll meet you at the office and we can walk together?” Hannah asked. Her eyes cut to Alec, who was watching her with interest. He nodded. Safety in numbers. Hannah could take a car to the publisher’s office.

“Great! I’ll see ye tomorrow!”

Hannah and Alec settled into the couch in the living room, turning on a movie to distract themselves. It was some comedy but it wasn’t holding Hannah’s attention, and Alec was stiff even with his arms around her. Her skin started to buzz, a curious feeling that started in her hands and feet and spread to her face. Blood was roaring in her ears.

“Yer shaking life a leaf,” Alec whispered into her ear. Hannah huffed, as close to a laugh as she could get. She turned in his arms, pressing a sloppy, wet kiss to his jaw.

“Make me forget, Alec. Just for a little while.”

She didn’t forget when he kissed her, nor when he sucked at her nipple. It wasn’t until his mouth lowered between her legs that her mind went blissfully blank.

“Be safe today,” Alec insisted as he straightened his tie for work. Hannah nodded.

“I will. I’ll take the car service and request a driver that I’ve had several times before. He’s always looked out for me, made sure I got inside places safely and all that. And Sinead and I will walk to lunch together. I’ll keep my wits about me,” she promised.

Alec took her face gently in his hands, rubbing his thumbs over the apples of her cheeks. “Call me when ye get home, please.”

Hannah bristled, but forced herself to ignore it. He was worried too.

“I will.”

She locked the door behind him and set her new alarm system. If the stalker tried to break in, an alert would be sent to the security company, who would dispatch the police. If he simply skulked around outside, he would trigger the motion sensors and an alert would be sent to Hannah’s phone. She was safe inside the house.

Hannah spent a while working out, trying to burn off nervous energy as well as she could without going for a run. Then she took extra time showering and getting ready for lunch with Sinead, simply because she had nothing else to do. She called for the car, requesting Jerry specifically as her driver, and settled in to wait. It didn’t take long for a black car to pull up outside, and Jerry came to the door to collect her. Hannah checked that it was him on the monitor, then slipped out, set the alarm, and allowed Jerry to guide her into the backseat.

He chattered all the way to the publisher’s office, but Hannah only listened with half an ear. Instead, she allowed herself to fully relax for the first time it what felt like ages. The stalker couldn’t get to her in the car.

Jerry dropped her off at the publisher’s office. Hannah promised to call him when she was ready to leave, and he promised to watch until she made it inside.

“Ready for lunch?” Hannah asked, knocking on Sinead’s office door. Sinead looked up at Hannah with the same sparkle in her eyes that Alec often had.

“I’m sorry, who are ye?”

Hannah laughed and played along. “Hannah Baxter. You design my book covers.”

“Oh yes! I remember now. It’s just been so long since I’ve seen ye.” Sinead hugged her tightly. “Where should we go? The chippy down the road?”

The chippy was always crowded with people. If the stalker had somehow followed her, he would be able to watch her at the chippy without anyone realizing. Hannah shivered.

“Actually, I’m craving curry. How about that Indian place down the road?”

“Oh, curry sounds amazing,” Sinead groaned. Hannah laughed and dragged her from the office.

They walked arm in arm to the Indian restaurant, taking a booth in the back where Hannah made sure to sit with her back to the wall. Sinead laughed.

“Now I know ye’ve been spending too much time with me brother, yer acting like a copper,” she teased. Hannah chuckled, but refused to actually address the statement. “So tell me about Broadchurch!”

“Ellie’d been on him to visit and we wanted to get out of town.” Hannah gave Sinead the high points, talking about Ellie and the boys, going to the beach, and Becca Fischer. “You should have seen her face, Sinead!”

“Oh my God, yer bloody brilliant, ye are! I’d never have been bold enough. I can’t believe ye got Alec to shag you in a hotel!” Sinead crowed, laughing through tears.

“I can be very persuasive,” Hannah said primly. She let herself laugh and dug into her curry. This was the most relaxed she’d been since they got back from Broadchurch, and she wanted the lunch to stretch forever.

They walked slowly back to the office, giggling all the while. Hannah called for Jerry to pick her up and Sinead made her promise not to disappear again.

“Hannah!” She turned at the sound of her name and nearly groaned when her editor appeared in the hallway.

“Hi, Evelyn.”

“How’s the new book coming? I expect a draft soon.” The way she said it implied that Hannah was behind, which she was. She didn’t want to think about it though. Not with everything else that had been going on.

“It’s not going very well to be honest,” Hannah said, trying to edge towards the lift. “I’m a bit blocked. I’ll figure it out soon though, and get it to you straight away!”

“I at least need an outline, Hannah. And a first chapter. Can you have those to me by the weekend?” Evelyn pressed. Hannah glanced at the clock on the wall, eager to get to the car.

“Yes, absolutely,” Hannah promised. She’d write through the night if she had to, if she could just leave.

“Great. We’re all really excited about this new book.”

“Me too,” Hannah said. The lift doors open and she dashed into them, repeatedly hitting the closed button like it would help get her to the ground floor faster.

When the doors opened again in the lobby, she peered outside. The car was nowhere to be seen. Hannah sighed and pulled out her phone.

“I’m sorry, Miss Baxter. I had to pull round the block. Give me just a minute and I’ll make my way back,” Jerry said.

“It’s okay Jerry. Just wait, it’ll be faster for me to come to you. There’s a cut through.” Hannah pushed out of the building and darted around the side to the alley. It was short, she could see through to the street, could see the boot of the car idling. “I see the car, I’ll just be a mo.”

She was halfway down the alley when hands grabbed her from behind.

The hands jerked her sideways, slamming her into the cement of the building. Hannah yelped as her head struck the wall and her phone clattered to the ground. She heard Jerry shouting through the speaker, but a hand went over her mouth.

“Come away with me, Hannah. We can go now, fly to Ibiza, and be together,” the voice rasped. She struggled, trying to twist out of his grip, but she couldn’t get the leverage. Hannah screamed around his hand.

He yanked her away from the wall and threw her to the ground. Her shoulder hit hard and pain spiked up through her teeth. She shrieked and rolled, trying to scramble to her feet. He grabbed her around the waist, trying to hoist her up, but Hannah jerked away, falling back to the ground.

“Stop it, bitch!” He hissed. He lifted her up again, slamming her back into the wall. He pressed against her, pinning her there, and leaned in close. Hannah tried to get a look at him, but her vision was blurred. “Stop struggling!”

Hannah lifted her knee hard between his legs. He grunted and stumbled back, but not far enough to release her. He slapped her, hard enough to make her ears ring, and Hannah cried out.

“Hannah!” Jerry shouted. The man who’d grabbed her shoved her down again and ran. Jerry started to give chase. Panic flashed through her, hot and bright, and she screamed.

“No! Don’t leave!”

“Hannah!” It was Sinead this time. Hands grabbed at her shoulders and Hannah scrambled away, pressing herself against the wall and covering her face with her hands. “Hannah, it’s Sinead. Jesus, what happened?”

“I lost him,” Jerry said, his boots thumping against the ground as he returned. “A man attacked her. I’m calling 999.”

“Hannah, it’s just me, okay? I just want to get a look,” Sinead whispered. She gently pulled Hannah’s hair away from her face, and Hannah could see that her fingers came away red. When Sinead gently touched her head, Hannah hissed. “Ye’ve got a gash, love.”

“It was him,” Hannah gasped around chattering teeth. She was so cold.

“Who, Hannah?”

“Call Alec.” She couldn’t manage another word, she was shaking so badly.

She heard Alec before she saw him. He was railing at poor Jerry, dressing him down for making her cut through the alley.

“Alec,” she called, though her voice was raspy and quiet. She’d apparently done quite a lot of screaming during the attack, which is how Sinead had known to come down.

Sinead stuck her head into the hospital hallway. “She’s in here.”

Alec rushed in, pausing just long enough to quickly take stock of her injuries, before gingerly taking her in his arms. Hannah knew she must look a fright, but she hadn’t seen herself in a mirror yet. She hissed as he accidentally jostled her arm.

“Sorry!” Alec gasped, leaning away from her.

“It’s okay. And it’s not Jerry’s fault. He offered to drive around, I told him no,” Hannah insisted. Alec frowned, but didn’t argue.

“Scott’s on his way, he’ll want a statement.”

“Did they catch him?” Hannah asked.

“No, sweetie,” Sinead said. “Jerry tried to chase him, but lost him.”

“Did you get a look at him?” Alec asked gently.

“No. God, Alec, how are we ever going to stop him?” Tears burned in her eyes and her throat got tight. He just kept slipping through their fingers.

“Shh, love. We’ll find him.” Alec pressed a gentle kiss to her lips. “What did the doctor say?”

“My arm might be fractured, they’re waiting on the x-rays. I’ve got a concussion. That’s it,” Hannah said.

“I’m so sorry, Hannah.”

“It’s not your fault, Alec. It’s not anyone’s fault but his.”

Nobody is an Action Movie That Questions ‘Toxic Masculinity’

Hutch Mansell (Bob Odenkirk) is (as his film title suggests) a Nobody. He’s a schlub who gets up for the same soul-deadening routine each day: he drinking his coffee, forgets to take the garbage out, and sits at his boring desk job. He then comes home to kids who barely tolerate him and a wife who literally makes a barrier of pillows between them in their bed. When he fails to protect their house against a home invasion–even though he clearly could have–the sense of disappointment from his family is palpable.

But the incident awakens something long dormant in Hutch: a set of skills and a primal anger that served him well in a former life and career defined by violence. Hutch has to give that repressed rage an outlet, which unfortunately brings him into the sights of a deadly Russian crime boss, even as it reawakens his soul and reconnects him with his wife and family.

Directed by Ilya Naishuller (who helmed the equally explosive Hardcore Henry in 2015), Nobody also stars Christopher Lloyd, RZA, and Connie Nielsen as Hutch’s wife Becca, a successful career woman on her own terms, and who probably no longer needs her seemingly insubstantial husband all that much. Yet what Becca does or doesn’t know about Hutch’s past is one of the more intriguing questions that this action-packed film raises.

The Danish-born Nielsen’s first major English-language role was in 1997’s The Devil’s Advocate, and since then she’s appeared in films like Rushmore, Gladiator, One Hour Photo, The Ice Harvest and many more. A new audience embraced her more recently thanks to the role of Queen Hippolyta, the mother of Diana of Themyscira in Wonder Woman, Justice League, Wonder Woman 1984, and the just-released Zack Snyder’s Justice League, which sees her role beefed up considerably from the 2017 theatrical version.

Meanwhile, she and the great Odenkirk play off each other exceedingly well in Nobody, a fact that came up during our Zoom chat with the actress.

Den of Geek: Right at the beginning of this film, there’s a home invasion and Bob’s character, Hutch, doesn’t do anything to protect his family. Did that feel very relatable, this idea that your spouse may not have your back in a situation like that?

Connie Nielsen: I loved that scene. I loved how in the aftermath of that scene you had the neighbor literally representing toxic masculinity: “Oh if it was me, I would have taken him out.” And then you have the kid, our child, our teenage boy, so impressionable, and totally buying into this idea of masculinity: “Yeah. We could have taken him, Dad. We could have taken him.” And it’s just like that’s exactly what we’re trying to say to everybody. Stop putting that stuff on men to be that guy, stop saying that a guy has to be all of these different things because it’s not healthy.

What you then have is basically–you start a film about action movies and about action, and about those tropes within an action movie, but then it actually starts questioning what the idea of masculinity behind all of that is. I just loved the irony of that and that importance of that too, because it does make it so relatable.

How does the relationship between Hutch and Becca play into that?

One of the things I said from the beginning was, “Let’s not make Hutch feel intimidated by his wife. Let’s instead underline the fact that he’s the one who’s depressed. He is not threatened by her success. It’s that he feels like he is nobody. He feels that he has no importance. Everybody’s going to be fine if he just freaking wasn’t there, she would be able to continue taking care of the kids and the money and everything else.” It’s this feeling that he has, that he doesn’t matter, and that he’s not important.

And that is such a brilliant way of framing the midlife crisis of this guy, and also the crisis of the relationship where the power balance is out of whack and they can’t reach each other, they can’t figure out how to be a team until they’re forced to become a team.

It’s also rare in the action genre that the relationship is also age appropriate. There’s not this 25-year gap between the husband and wife.

That has always been a pet peeve of mine, even when I was a kid in this business. When I’m watching a movie and I’m seeing a girl who’s 24 playing the mother of four kids. I’m like, “What?” It’s just so dumb. There are so many women out there who get really offended as they watch these kinds of movies. So it’s just also dumb of producers and directors to cast without being age appropriate, because women get mad, they get irritated.

What other little details do you think you contributed or discussed with the director in terms of just making these characters more vivid on the set?

First of all, one of the things that was most important was when we were talking about my character’s success, that it was believable within the context, and that we didn’t make it a takedown of successful women–if it was problematic, it was not her problem, but his problem. I think that also we really talked about making her behavior understandable. There’s a second home invasion where it becomes pretty hard for her to not pose questions, so how do we play that? For me, the most important thing was to come up with a balanced behavior that also posed questions in hindsight as to, well, who is she really, what’s her background story, how is she dealing with all this, and is there something else there?

It’s a little ambiguous how much she knows about Hutch’s past. She’s never overly shocked by anything that Hutch does when the full scope of his character comes out. And that goes back to the idea that you sometimes really don’t know the person you’re married to.

That also goes for the moviegoers, they may not really know who the character of Becca is either. That’s part of what we also had a lot of fun talking about on set–what are the things that you don’t know about her?

What kind of set did Ilya run? Was there an openness for ideas and improvisational type of things?

I think so. I think especially when we were doing scenes that were about the emotional relationship, it was just really about making it come alive and truthful, that it was profound and that was meaningful emotionally, that we didn’t make it a small moment, but a big moment.

This is the first time you ever worked with Bob.

Yeah. It is, and we never met before.

What is that like when you have to meet and immediately create a relationship between these two characters?

It’s odd, it’s so bizarre and strange. The first day on set when we were doing hair and makeup tests and so on, I was taken to this hangar and there’s box of sand on the floor with a green backdrop and a photographer in front of it. And it’s, “Oh, we’re about to do your family pictures,” and then, “Oh, and this is Bob.” Then you basically sit down and you just immediately move into pictures of our honeymoon and all of these different vacations that we’ve had back in the days when we were happy. I basically just met this man. It’s awkward, but that’s also acting, right? You’re just bringing your own experience and leaning into it as if you know this person.

Did you see the director’s previous film, Hardcore Henry?

I did not see Hardcore Henry, but it was very clear from the beginning that Ilya has this particularly cool way of marrying both music and action and image. So I just felt very comfortable that our producers believed that he was going to bring that same thing to Nobody.

When you look at the way action is done in movies today, on one hand you have the stylized stuff that we see in this movie, and then there’s the way Patty Jenkins shoots the Wonder Woman films, which has this majestic painterly quality. Does this seem like an interesting time for the genre?

I think so. I think that it has just changed so vastly from back in the day with films like Rambo. I think that a lot of these movies used to have a very jingoistic quality to them, and that instead, action has mutated. I think maybe that Taiwan, Korea, Japan, and China brought progress to the genre and really updated it and brought in fantasy elements that were really exciting. Superhero movies have definitely updated those concepts as well. So I do think that action movies continue to evolve. The John Wick trilogy is just such a great example of something that just evolved into this whole world, this John Wick world, which was so cool.

What are your thoughts on Zack Snyder’s Justice League arriving? Did you do any additional shooting for it?

I did my work with Zack on set. I did not have to go back for any reshoots. When Zack was going to start the project back up, he had the courtesy and the kindness to call everybody and ask if we were willing to support him in this. I think every single person immediately just said, “Of course.” I know that we’re all super excited that he’s bringing this vision forward to everybody. And I know that he does not consider this as another Justice League, he considers this a standalone movie in its own right.

Are you signed for Wonder Woman 3?

I know that there’s a storyline that involves the Amazons, that’s really all I can say.

Nobody arrives in theaters on Friday, March 26.

Hogwarts Houses Of Classic Disney Channel Characters | ScreenRant

Though Walt Disney founded his company in California in 1923, it would be another sixty years before a television network named for him debuted. In April 1983, the Disney Channel launched. In its original programming were animated series, The Mickey Mouse Club, and a handful of shows created for its new audience. The classic Disney Channel programming featured just as many dramas as comedies and didn’t make its foray into sitcoms until the late '90s.

Classic Disney Channel references the era before Hannah Montana reigned supreme over its programming. Before Hannah Montana launched in 2006, the network aired a lot of content acquired from other networks in addition to its shows created specifically for a Disney audience. If some of those classic characters found their way into Harry Potter’s Hogwarts, where would they end up?

10 Mickey Mouse: Gryffindor

Though the many shows featuring Mickey Mouse were mostly pulled from other networks, there’s no denying he was a Disney Channel fixture. His silhouette is still a symbol for the network today. Without Mickey, the Mickey Mouse Club would never have united, after all.

As the de facto leader of the animated characters in their many incarnations, and his tendency to lead with his heart instead of his head, Mickey has to make his home in Gryffindor. Always ready for a new challenge, even if it would scare lesser mice, Mickey’s certainly a brave character.

9 Ren Stevens (Even Stevens): Ravenclaw

Before Disney Channel series focused on singers, dancers, and wizards, they focused on the everyday life of families. The Stevens family were at the center of Even Stevens, specifically Ren and her little brother Louis. While Louis was a reckless schemer, Ren was methodical and focused.

Ren was certainly ambitious, but most of her ambitions lay in her academic challenges. She relished in reports, charts, and writing, ready to learn as much as she could to prove herself the best student. Ren would be right at home solving riddles to get into the Ravenclaw common room.

8 Becca Fisher (Flash Forward): Hufflepuff

It would be difficult to have a list featuring classic Disney Channel characters without including one from the first series produced specifically for the network. Though other shows aired on Disney before 1996, the other series were created for networks like CBS and ABC. Flash Forward aired on ABC as well, but it started on Disney Channel with best friends Tucker and Becca.

Becca had known Tucker since birth, and despite a lot of his scheming that could get them into trouble, she stuck by him all through middle school. She tried her best to not only keep him out of trouble but also to minimize the damage of his schemes. Becca was also all about fairness, arguing for her friend Christine’s right to be part of the wrestling team. She was definitely a Hufflepuff.

7 Jett Jackson (The Famous Jett Jackson): Gryffindor

Before Austin and Ally, Hannah Montana, or the Jonas Brothers were big names for the network, their celebrity was Jett Jackson. An action star who returned to his hometown to work, Jett couldn’t escape the celebrity life. As a Gryffindor, he probably wouldn’t really want to.

Jett often protested that he wanted a normal life. His frequent use of celebrity to get himself out of trouble proved that untrue. He was willing to take big risks and was always willing to save the day. He even managed to get Britney Spears to show up for one of his school events!

6 Zack Morris (Good Morning, Miss Bliss): Slytherin

Not many Saved By The Bell fans realize that the series didn’t start as a Saturday morning sitcom on a regular network. Its first incarnation was as Good Morning, Miss Bliss, with Zack Morris and friends in junior high on the Disney Channel.

Anyone who knows their Saved By The Bell knows that Zack is one mischievous kid who always wanted a shortcut. That’s typical of a Slytherin. Zack wanted to date the prettiest, most popular girl in school, coast through his classes, and do anything to make himself look better. He had a good heart, but couldn’t resist stirring up a little trouble in his favor.

5 Annie Thelen (So Weird): Ravenclaw

In So Weird, the daughter of a musician had an obsession with the supernatural. She investigated the unexplained as they toured. In season three, however, Fiona (Cara DiLizia) left the series for a normal life. Annie Thelen (Canadian actor/musician Alexz Johnson) joined the show.

Like Fi before her, Annie had a curious mind. Annie wouldn’t let go of any mystery put in front of her. She tracked down clues, researched mysterious phenomena, and even opened up unexplained instances in her own past. Both series leads were definitely Ravenclaws.

4 Mary Anne Spier (The Baby-Sitters Club): Hufflepuff

The Baby-Sitters Club will soon be reinvented for Netflix, but in the '90s, reruns of the 13-episode series aired on the Disney Channel after being developed for HBO. Inspired by a series of novels, the show featured a group of teenagers who started their own babysitting business. Mary Anne was the club secretary and the shyest among them.

She was also a peacemaker, frequently reminding her arguing friends about just what needed to be done. Her organizational skills kept the group on track, and her can-do attitude meant she was always ready to help in a crisis. She certainly fit the Hufflepuff mold.

3 Lizzie McGuire (Lizzie McGuire): Slytherin

With Lizzie’s sunny, but dramatic disposition, she might have seemed like a lock for Hufflepuff or Gryffindor. Lizzie, however, isn’t actually the most loyal of friends. She’s also always looking for a way to come out on top, which means she’s sorted into Slytherin.

Lizzie’s ambitions, whether it was being named best dressed in the middle school yearbook or getting to play a pop star for the day, often led her to forget everyone else around her. She also turned her back on her friend Miranda when Miranda was accused of shoplifting. Lizzie had a good heart, but sometimes her own desires meant she wasn’t the best friend.

2 Phil Diffy (Phil Of The Future): Ravenclaw

It’s very tempting to sort Phil Diffy into Gryffindor. When his time-traveling family ended up stuck in the past, he bravely faced life as an adventure. Of his family, however, Phil seemed to be the most knowledgeable of the past. That is why he’s better suited to Ravenclaw.

Surprisingly, Phil was able to slip right into the public school system and act like an average student. That comes from him studying up on the time period his family planned part of their vacation in. Phil was a quick study. He even understood most of the complicated mechanics of fixing their machinery that his dad spent the entire series working on.

1 Raven Baxter (That’s So Raven): Gryffindor

Raven Baxter is a bit of a schemer. Yes, she got herself into a lot of scrapes as a teenager, but her duplicity in those situations wasn’t born from a Slytherin attitude. She wanted to help. That’s why she’s a Gryffindor.

With a gift for psychic visions, Raven couldn’t help the things she saw. Unfortunately, since her visions were always quick and came in bits and pieces, she never had the full picture. Her tendency to jump in head first with only the smallest bit of information is just like a Gryffindor jumping to conclusions. She tried to help time and time again, and mostly, she succeeded.

My GPS took me somewhere weird, and I think something followed me home. by clutterqueenx

When my little brother called and practically begged me to give him a ride roughly two hundred miles away for a pre-booked vacation, I agreed.

We were five years apart, Jacob and I, but we'd always been close growing up. He was nineteen now, on a break between semesters at the local community college, and incredibly exited to spend a few weeks camping in Colorado with his new programmer friends. He'd planned to make the drive himself, but his car had unexpectedly died in an unimpressive manner, and the trip was the next morning. His friends were already crammed as it was in one of the boy's Corolla, so Jacob had come to me.

The next morning at the crack of dawn, I sat behind the wheel of my steadfast SUV, watching blearily as Jacob bounded out of his shared apartment, several bags thrown over his shoulders.

"Thanks, Becca," he immediately blurted the moment the door was open, tossing his bags into the back before sliding into the passenger seat. He looked much more upbeat than I felt, to say the least.

"Not a problem." I eased the car back onto the road, and it was smooth sailing from there. Jacob was talkative and clearly excited, and the miles seemed to fly beneath us as I gradually pepped up, too. By the last leg of the journey, we were singing along badly to the radio and giggling when the GPS' stoic voice interrupted at regular intervals, leaving both of us wailing away without music for a few seconds.

We made good time, pulling into the campgrounds as the GPS instructed to see Jacob's friends already gathered around the dark green Corolla, double-checking their baggage.

"Thanks again. I really appreciate it," Jacob said sincerely as I brought the SUV to a halt.

"No problem. I'm picking you up in exactly one week, 2 PM, yeah?"

"Yep. See you then."

I watched as Jacob vaulted out of the front seat and gathered his bags from the back. Only once he was sauntering towards his friends did I set the GPS for home and back away from the campgrounds.

The trip back was quieter, despite the upbeat pop music that flowed through the car. I knew we were both busy adults now, but I'd missed Jacob. We'd have to hang out more, when he got back.

My thoughts eventually began to wander, and I robotically followed the directions of the GPS as I drove and daydreamed of trivial things. All in all, it was only around a three hour drive. I'd get back around eleven AM, twelve at the latest.

Two hours into the journey, as I was cruising down a two-lane road with endless trees on either side, the music paused and the GPS droned robotically, "in one mile, make a right turn."

I waited for the street name, but received none. Confused, I glanced down at the screen, tracing a tiny road that stretched through the trees ahead. Weird.

As I reached the half-mile point, the GPS again told me to turn soon, and when at last the road came into view, I eased onto it and slowed to a halt.

It was a dirt road, and the further down it I peered, the closer the branches above grew until they formed a canopy of shadows. This couldn't be right, could it? But no, my GPS was indicating that I was on the right path on the road. Maybe it was a short cut, or there was an accident that closed the highway ahead...or something.

"Alright, Miss Robot," I murmured under my breath, easing the car into a crawl. "You better not be fucking broken or something."

Strangely it was quiet, not telling me as it usually did how long I'd be on the bumpy road. As I pushed onwards, I chewed at my lip, debating on turning around and heading back to the highway. The foliage was only growing thicker and thicker overhead, blotting out all rays of sunlight, and the road seemed to be growing more desolate and untended for with each passing minute. But just when I really began to contemplate hightailing it back the way I'd come, the GPS chimed in.

"Arrived at your destination."

What? This was most certainly not New Mexico, and I scowled with frustration, glaring down at the screen of the GPS. When I glanced back up, I slammed on the breaks, startled by the sight before me.

The car rounded a bend and the road abruptly ended, leaving only a wide clearing amidst the trees. And in the clearing was a rotting wooden cabin, half-collapsed and very clearly not occupied. The door was long gone, the windows shattered, and long blades of grass peaked through what I could glimpse of the floorboards within.

"Okay. Alright. This is weird." I could hear the squeak hidden beneath my words as I began tapping my address into my GPS again, only to see the dreaded "No Service" at the top of the screen. "What the hell?"

And that's when I heard it.

Even through the closed windows of the SUV, it was piercing, a pathetic mewl that might have been a trapped puppy, or an incredibly distressed kitten. And of course it was coming from inside of the cabin, the sound of it pained and panicked, tugging harshly at the strings of my heart.

Under normal circumstances, I never would have left the safety of my car in such a strange situation. But the idea of driving away from the cabin and leaving some tiny creature to waste away when I might have been it's only hope sickened me. So despite the pounding of my heart, I cracked open the door and stepped out.

The sound was louder now - definitely the whining of a small puppy. I remembered how the family dog, Baxter, had yowled when we'd first brought him home years ago. This was similar, but worse.

Fearful of what I might find - I'd seen enough of what awful people could do to animals on Facebook videos - I approached the cabin and took a slow, tentative step inside. It was filled with broken, rotting furniture, and there was a strange scent hanging heavily in the air. Sickly sweet, with a hint of...decay. My heart began to thunder, and the crying of the animal grew louder, coming from a small room tucked off to the right.

I maneuvered carefully across the sagging floor, my breathing seeming ragged and too loud around me. Abruptly, just as I reached the doorway, the crying stopped.

Everything in my body seemed to scream out at once as I stepped into the room. I'd heard the term "blood ran cold" before, but I'd never experienced it - until then. There was nothing in the room but an old twin bed with a filthy mattress upon it, and tattered curtains that might have once been white hanging above the sole window. Strangely, the room was as dark as if it were night despite this, and the feeling of dread that washed over me made my stomach cramp.

Something in the corner moved, and I whirled towards it. It took a long moment for my eyes to adjust to the darkness, but when they did, the sound that escaped me was a primal cry of pure fear.

It was shaped like a person, and yet not, the ivory skin stretched too tight across a skeletal frame. The limbs were impossibly long and spindly, the joints bent backwards at the elbows and knees. Where fingers should have been were claws, and when I made the awful mistake of looking at the creatures face, I thought I might faint from fear.

The mouth was massive and gaping, filled with row after row of teeth - human teeth, dull and blunted, sickly brown in coloration, but so many of them. There was no nose between the sharp lines of its jawbone, and the eyes...they were sunken, the pupils and iris gone, leaving only a stretch of white, milky sclera. Clumps of greasy, lank hair hung in strands from the veiny skull, and before my very eyes, the creature opened its mouth and begin to emit the eery sounds of the puppy's cry.

I scrambled backwards clumsily, wildly, watching in horror as it scuttled forward on bent, awkward limbs. It continued to make that awful whine, as if beckoning me forward even as it's very presence repelled me. I could think of nothing but the door, and my car waiting safely outside, but in my panic and haste, I went tumbling over a lopsided end table, smashing my chin hard on the ground. I felt the skin split, felt warm blood spurt, and suddenly the creature let out a scream so wild and triumphant that I felt warmth trickle down the inside of my jeans. My blood seemed to have driven it into a frenzy, and as I scrambled back to my feet, I felt a sharp, piercing pain in the back of my left thigh.

It was grinning with row upon row of those rotting teeth as I whirled and scrambled backwards. One of its long claws was coated with blood - my blood, where it had reached out and sliced into the meat of my thigh. Horrified, I was unable to tear my eyes away from it even as I reeled backwards, watching as a long, black tongue snaked out from between the teeth, lapping at the blood-soaked talon.

I burst out of the door in a tangle of flailing limbs, slipping and sliding across the leaves as I hurled myself towards the SUV, yanking open the door and scrambling inside. I could feel blood streaming down my chin and chest, from my stinging thigh, but I ignored it as I threw the car into reverse.

The last glimpse I got of the creature was it hunkered in the doorway, those terrifying white eyes seeming to follow me as I hightailed it back down the dirt road.

Once back on the highway, the GPS resumed my former route as if it had never diverged from it. I was shaking so hard that I could barely press the buttons on my phone screen as I scrolled through my contacts, calling my father before I could stop myself.

"Hey, Becca. How's the drive?" His voice was so cheerful, so calm compared to the way my own body seemed to have fallen into a state of total disarray.

"Dad..."

Something in my voice must have tipped him off, because he was suddenly serious. "Rebecca, what's wrong? Are you okay?"

"No. I don't know. The GPS took me down this dirt road, I thought it was a detour but there was this old cabin and it looked really creepy, and..." I trailed off, sucking in a breath. What did I say to him? That some sick, disfigured monster that definitely wasn't human had lured me into the cabin with the sounds of an injured animal? It sounded crazy even to me. "...I guess I just got freaked out."

"You're back on the highway now?"

"Yeah. Yeah, I'm headed home. I'm sorry. I just needed a familiar voice, after..."

"It's alright, Becs, as long as you're safe now. Don't take anymore weird detours, okay? If something doesn't seem right, don't ignore it."

"Yeah, alright. Thanks dad. I love you."

The rest of the drive, I remained shaken. My thigh and chin smarted terribly, and though the blood had crusted over on my face, my thigh continued to trickle thinly.

When I finally pulled into the driveway of my apartment, I practically tumbled out of the drivers seat, yelping at the way my thigh throbbed viciously. I needed to clean it, immediately.

The walk up the stairs to my door was agony, my hands still trembling as I fumbled with my keys. The moment I was inside I flipped on every light, stumbling into the bathroom. Sprawled upon the counter was my cat, Noodles, and she mewled happily at the sight of me, unfurling and stretching towards me. But the moment her nostrils flared, she jerked back and stiffened, a loud hiss erupting from her as I backed away.

"Noodles," I began, but she was gone, leaping from the counter and sprinting madly from the room. Frowning, I glanced up into the mirror above the sink, cringing at the sight. The gash on my chin was considerable, crusted over with a flap of skin hanging. Gingerly I dabbed at it with a cotton ball and water, wincing at the peroxide and alcohol I splashed on after. It looked better, but still dreadful, and I sighed at the scar it would inevitably leave as I bandaged it.

My thigh...it was a different story entirely. Peeling off my jeans was agony, revealing a deep gash that was an angry red around the edges and hot to the touch. The sting of the peroxide and alcohol was tenfold, making me cry out as I clumsily wrapped a bandage around it.

Exhausted despite the early hour, I shuffled into my room and tumbled into bed, too tired to fight off sleep but inevitably knowing that nightmares of the creature would follow.

Sometime later, I was awoken by the sound of Noodles deep, angry yowling. Groggily I rolled over, peering at the alarm clock beside the bed. Three AM.

The room was dark, silent. I sat up, rubbing at my eyes as I glanced towards the window where Noodles was perched, her entire body bowed, her fur on end as she glared outside.

I slipped out of bed, but the moment my feet touched the floor, my left thigh blazed with agony, my knee bucking as sharp pain shot along my entire leg. I crumpled, hissing as I reached for the lamp beside the bed, flicking it on.

Though it had only been hours, the skin was a sickly purple and green, the wound festering and thick with pus. I gritted my teeth against the pain as I dragged myself to my feet, teetering towards the window as Noodles continued to hiss and screech.

Leaning against the windowsill, half-distracted by the knowledge that I'd have to fork over piles of cash to see a doctor for my thigh, I glanced outside, towards the forest that sprawled on the other side of my apartment complex.

I didn't see it, not at first. I was about to chock up Noodles' behavior to a stray dog or a sketchy lurker, but then movement caught my eye, and - just as last time - I froze.

It was standing there, just outside of the trees, gazing up directly into my window. Even from the distance, I could see the bright eyes as the moonlight gleamed off of them, making them luminescent. It was bent at the shoulders, the hair swaying in the breeze.

It's a dream. It's a dream. It's just a dream, my thoughts frantically chanted. But I knew that no matter how hard I pinched myself, the creature wouldn't disappear.

Slowly, the wide mouth stretched open into a grotesque smile. Several of the teeth were pearly white, a stark contrast to the others it displayed. Grinning, it lifted a single claw - the one that had been coated in my blood - to point at the window. At that exact moment, my thigh throbbed so viciously that I screamed, eyes rolling back in my skull as blackness pressed in, swallowing me whole.

When I awoke, I was on the floor, Noodles crouched at my side. Pale light flickered in through the window, casting a grey glow across the room.

Groaning, I felt for my thigh, dread curdling in my stomach. My leg was swollen to at least twice the size of the other, and the area around the wound had turned almost...black.

Before I could think on it further, my phone chimed from the bedside table, and I reached for it, surprised to see my fathers number. He was usually never up this early; maybe he was checking in on me.

"Hello?" I asked as I struggled onto my one good leg, peering nervously out of the window. Where the creature had once been, there was now nothing but trees.

"Rebecca." Something about his voice made my heart race into a gallop. It was thick with tears, with agony. "It's Jacob."

My brother had been found several miles from the tents by his friends, his throat savagely split. No one knows why he'd left the safety of the campgrounds - though other campers reported hearing the cries of some time of distressed animal in the night.

Even stranger was the matter of Jacob's teeth; several of them had been viciously pulled from his gums, leaving a bloody mess for the grim game wardens and state troopers to find.

Guys, I don't know what to do. I can't help but feel like this is my fault. What if this creature is tracking the members of my family through my blood? What if it comes for my mom and father next, pulling and sporting their teeth like grizzly trophies?

What if it comes for me?
