can’t stand all these ready meal prep startups with boring bland ass food. where’s the CULTURE. where’s the SEASONING. give me some damn Caribbean food. these people’s idea of diverse food options is some kind of dressed up pork, a fucked up pasta, or some americanized Mexican food.

meal ideas!
low energy ("do not ask me to do any prep work at all, so help me god")
mozzerella cheese wrapped in pepperoni ("pizza tacos"!)
hummus and pretzels or naan (putting the naan in the microwave for like 10 seconds...heavenly)
canned chili (with shredded cheese and sour cream if you have it! boom done!)
instant miso soup (warm and lovely! put tofu in it for protein!)
cheese and cured meat, olives, canned fish, crackers, dried fruit, or whatever easy "charcuterie" type items you like
alternate bites of apple and spoonfulls of peanut butter (mixing honey or chocolate chips to the peanut butter is my favorite)
a "deconstructed sandwich": bites of lunch meat, pickles, cheese, cherry tomato, etc (I love roast beef and white cheddar for this)
yogurt and granola or fruit
put frozen potstickers + frozen edamame in the steamer/rice cooker, chill elsewhere with a timer set, then boom
tortilla chips + canned refried beans + cherry tomatoes + cilantro + jarred salsa con queso (or warm shredded cheese on top of the chips in the microwave for 30 seconds)
bagel + cream cheese + lox
microwave scrambled eggs (add things like green onion, soy sauce, or anything else you like!)
cottage cheese and fruit (mixed together or just on the side)
bowl of shredded rotisserie chicken + buffalo sauce + a bit of mayo + green onion (use a kitchen scissors to cut them right in!)
medium energy ("I'll boil water but don't ask me to chop shit")
boiled eggs and fresh veggies (put a little salt on top of the eggs!)
buttered noodles (my go-to nausea meal, it has never failed me. ideas of things to add: frozen peas, imitation crab, roasted garlic)
baked potato with toppings (I like cheese, bacon, broccoli, green onion, and sour cream)
quesadilla (add some canned beans, cilantro, or avocado!)
pot roast (requires a lot of time but not a lot of actual work. I love it with peas!)
cuban sandwich (bread, swiss, pickle, mustard, ham... my favorite thing to panini-ify by far)
pan-fried tofu with scallion sauce (this sauce goes well with everything and tofu is no exception)
pancakes or waffles! (I love mine with jam)
ham, pickle, and cream cheese roll-ups
fried eggs (with toast and lots of butter...so comforting)
fruit smoothie (bananas, frozen strawberries, yogurt...or whatever!)
I hate salad but could write essays on this copycat olive garden salad (throw it in a bowl! chopping required if you use onion)
spaghetti (controversial maybe but angel hair > spaghetti noodles)
pasta salad (olives broccoli fresh mozerella... those little mini pepperonis... yeah)
stir-fried thai garlic shrimp (I like using the mini frozen salad shrimps, it's easy! use jarred minced garlic to avoid chopping!)
tuna mayo onigiri
slow cooker ribs
buffalo chicken wrap (or any number of other wrap options! shred pre-cooked rotisserie chicken to make it easier)
if your local grocery store sells pre-cooked gyro strips, that can turn into an easy wrap with store-bought pita & tzatziki with tomatoes and onions!
couscous and chickpeas
tortellini + pasta sauce + spinach
high energy ("I don't mind chopping some things up!")
stuffed shells with spinach
chicken and roasted garlic (oh my god.....one of my all time favorites)
beef tacos (I like mine with cilantro and onion, and when I'm feeling especially high energy I love a tomatillo salsa)
chicken alfredo
tom kha gai (a thai soup and my absolute favorite! you just need access to galangal)
lasagna! (freezes well and then boom! low energy meal for later)
pad thai! (not as hard as you'd think, as long as you have access to tamarind paste!)
potstickers! (this is a lovely group activity if you want to cook with housemates!)
rice and beans
bang bang shrimp (ogughfhgfuh I love it. you can also do bang bang tofu!)
minestrone soup (so many nice veggies!)
fried rice (put whatever you have on hand in there! broccoli, peas, carrot, and beef is my favorite combo)
broccoli cheddar soup
spring rolls and peanut sauce
skewers (such as beef, onion, zucchini, bell pepper... you don't need a grill, oven works!)
roasted turkey with garlic parmesean asparagus
pork chop with mashed potatoes
panang curry
chicken gnocchi soup (use store bought gnocchi or make your own if you have a high energy day!)
bibimbap (super customizable depending on what veggies you like best)
butter chicken
plus! things that have helped me meal plan:
whenever you think of a meal you'd like to make, take 3 seconds to google search it, take a screenshot of the image results, and put it in a "food ideas" folder. instant visual menu!
the concept of "meal prepping" makes me recoil but I've learned that it can simply mean preparing shredded chicken, boiled eggs, or some other simple protein that you can customize throughout the week. shredded chicken can turn into wraps, salads, pasta dishes, etc... you don't have to meal prep yourself into the same meal all week!
when I have difficulty working up an appetite, I'll scroll through my favorite restaurant menus! there might be some foods I can't make at home, but many times they're very simple to recreate because the ingredients are literally listed!

1. Salt - ok, a rocky start. Is someone making beef stew without salt? Who?! WHO IS DOING... ahem -10/10
2. Rosemary - all right, that is a seasoning and while it is a very basic one that I would assume the majority of European cuisine based beef stew wood include. So. Better than salt. 3/10
3. Bacon - nice, a little novel. And I guess if you make your stew with a few solid chunks of bacon in it. You might not need the salt? I guess. I have never done more than using bacon fat to sear the beef but I'm willing to give that to go. 7/10
4. Mushrooms - I suppose this is flavorful if you use specific kinds. And umani is the most important flavor part. Still. A pretty standard ingredient though. 6/10
5. Coffee - much better. Never tried this, though I've used coffee in different gravies and sauces before. Will give it a go, though I'm a little unsure because I associate it with slightly sweeter companion ingredients. 10/10
6. Cacao - I'm from Cincinnati; I love chili; this is probably delicious and I will have to give it a go. I'm surprised I've never tried it. Am sure the way chocolate is used in general food palettes ill prevent people from using it though. 9/10
7. Orange - now we have gotten to in not sure about that. The tartness of the orange pairs well with sweetness but using it in a umami-based dish with high levels of salt seems undesirable 6/10, it's a bold strategy, Cotton, let's see how it plays out.
8. Garlic - oh, it's salt 2: electric boogaloo. because there probably are people who have never used real garlic and there are many flavor profiles produced in how it's prepared -1/10
9. Onion - Oh, come on. -10/10
10. Pepper[corn] - who wrote this, jfc. I know you are white, and that's why pepper is novel. -5/10
11. Cinnamon - this is more like it. I bet cinnamon adds a lot of warmth to the stew. I think it would depend heavily on what other ingredients you used herbs and seasoning wise, because there are some things that it clashes with. 7/10.
12. Potato - ok, I looked up the author and Nicole Adams definitely has a taco Tuesday where she eats store bought taco mix hard shell tacos, wearing socks and shoes in the house, and does yoga led by another white lady with a hyphenated first name like Becky-Sue or Ruth-Anne . I'm gonna generally assume she wrote this while wine hung over because I want to assume nice things.
Look, potatoes absolutely belong in beef stew. They are in fact one of the core ingredients that will always appear in beef stew. But as the title of this is things that add flavor to beef stew, and the fact that potatoes are only carb flavored, and their function is to pick up the flavors around them the addition of it. to this list. is. irritating. Null/10
13. Carrots - I... Guess. I'm going to give this points because carrots do add a flavor. They are a part of the flavor profile. They are part of the standard flavor profile, though, so 4/10
14. Red wine - Yes. Ok. Cool. You should definitely add some form of alcohol to your beef stew because it will marry the flavors better. However, this is pretty basic (I prefer the sharpness of dry white wine, personally but it's a far less popular choice) 7/10
15. [Stout] Beer - there are worse places to end this. I'm gonna give Nicole points for specifically saying stout instead of general beer. Bear in general is a good ingredient for something as rich and heavy as beef stew, but stout is the correct choice if you're going to go with it. 8/10

"That last one rubs me the wrong way. From the can? What is this the great depression? Get your ass out of the canned aisle and get yourself some fresh vegetables, your gut's gonna thank ya. Also, not that I'm tellin' anyone how t' do their job but 'salad or pizza?' 'hamburgers or cheeseburgers?' Kind of dumb easy this or thats are those? Now Cheeseburgers or Pizza and Hamburger or Chicken sandwich? Are WAAAY better shit t' let people choose from. Then toss in salad with fruit salad. Sometimes I feel like Kuwabara makes these things."

For @starblue2406
Here are a few things I'll eat in a day. I typically don't eat a big breakfast, but I will have a big lunch. Dinners in my family are late, usually 6pm to 8pm, we typically walk after dinner, then I'll drink tea to relax before bed.
You'll probably notice a lack of beef and pork, I have trouble digesting them, so it's mostly chicken and seafood. My family also don't eat a lot of bread, it's treated more like a side than a meal.
And yeah, there's a quite a mix of cultures here. My mom's side is Greek/Egypt with Turkish influences from her great grandfather, my dad is Native American with some adopted local New Mexico flavors. Since I was originally born and raised by the ocean, seafood and sea vegetables are a big thing in my diet. They're hard to find in the southwest, but I crave them and they keep me healthy as I have low blood pressure, so I need a bit of healthy salt.
----------------
Things I'll have for breakfast:

Taco Night
Pairing: Mickey 'Fanboy' Garcia x civilian!gn!reader
Summary: Fluff. Head canons about Mickey being the best cook.
A/N: I've never written head canons ever, but I love Mickey and Danny and there is not enough writing about mickey, so I hope I did him justice! Feedback is greatly appreciated!
Tumblr media
When you married Mickey, you knew what you were getting into.
Long nights, deployments, mickey having obnoxious sing alongs every Saturday morning
Much like his call sign, he is a fanboy.
One thing you didn't know you were getting into though was that Mickey is an AMAZING cook.
Sure, you weren't a horrible cook, but Mickey was just so good at it.
Considering he grew up in a big family, he was always around people cooking amazing food. His mom is a good example of that.
Speaking of his mom, she is definitely the one who taught him how to cook.
Or, if he had an older sister, she also assisted in teaching Mickey how to cook.
One night, you made tacos for dinner with the basics, hard shell, ground beef, cheese, lettuce. Mickey came home from work and was excited for dinner and he did enjoy it.
Afterwards you guys had a small conversation about tacos, and he tried his best to be nice. "Honey, these were amazing, but you have to let me show you the right way to make tacos, please." "Are you making fun of my tacos?" You would ask jokingly, knowing it would make him think he hurt your feelings. "No! Not at all! I just want to show you how we make them traditionally. I want to share my culture with you." "Babe, I was kidding. Of course, you can teach me how to make tacos."
So, that's exactly what he did. On his next day off, he spent a good hour grocery shopping and then came home just in time for dinner.
When he began to brown the ground beef, you didn't think it was that different from what you did. "Mick, this is the same way I made them." "Mi amor, no matter how you make tacos you still have to brown the beef." He said with a laugh. Once he started adding all the spices in, you knew it was different. He put a lid on the meat and put the tortillas on a skillet to warm up.
After the tortillas were warmed up, he put meat, onion, cheese, tomato, and cilantro onto them. Next, he went to the fridge and grabbed the rest of the stuff he bought. He topped the tacos with sour cream, salsa, and Pico de Gallo. You had to admit, they looked and smelled amazing.
He sat across from you at your table on your balcony. You went to take a bite, but he stopped you. "Amor, wait I forgot something." He ran back into the house and came up with two halves of a lime. "Squeeze this on, then eat it." So, you did, and when you finally bit into that taco, you felt like you were in taco heaven.
"Oh my God Mick, these are so much better than mine. Please cook dinner every time we have tacos." He would laugh but give you the biggest smile. "Deal."
