Laurie's Shepherd's Pie
My husband loves this savory beef pie because it's so simple to make. The remaining food is ideal for lunch the following day. If desired, you could sprinkle a cup of shredded Cheddar cheese on top of the potatoes for flavor.

Laurie's Shepherd's Pie Recipe
My husband loves this savory beef pie because it's so simple to make. The remaining food is ideal for lunch the following day. If desired, you could sprinkle a cup of shredded Cheddar cheese on top of the potatoes for flavor. 1 unbaked pie shell, 1/4 cup milk, 3 potatoes peeled and cubed, 1 pound lean ground beef, 2 tablespoons margarine, 1 can cream-style corn, 1 green bell pepper chopped, 1 large onion diced

Pam's Bierocks
Bierocks are soft rolls filled with ground beef, onion, and cabbage for a tasty German sandwich that's a great alternative to Finnish pasty.

"Serious Stew" part 3: the innocent stew passes through the fire to become the Prophesied Pie
As I said earlier: I fed this to my OC in 1977 in my first published novel, and have been thinking about it (occasionally/on and off) ever since.
...I mean, you could serve this as stew, and it'd be perfectly respectable. But why not add some pie crust—even maybe some puff pastry—and make everybody a little bit happier? Pies are nice. :)
(And turns out that wholemeal puff pastry works perfectly well. It is, after all, simply about getting the butter to explode correctly in the oven...)
Recipe follows tomorrow or the next day over at Food and Cooking of the Middle Kingdoms.
