Brought mum to Causeway Point for shopping and had an early dinner at Food Republic. Ordered the Beef Tendon & Tripe Noodles Soup (S$11) from The Hong House Beef Noodles as mum enjoyed it the last time she had it.
Tumblr media
I myself went for the Chicken Katsu Omelette Original Curry Rice (S$8.40) from Washoku Goen. It came with an omelette blanketing the white rice and topped with a deep-fried breaded chicken cutlet. The other half of the plate is filled with Japanese curry gravy and potato cubes. The chicken is both crispy and succulent and the curry seasoned more toward savoury and spicy rather than sweet which is a good thing for me.

Testo’s, Bridgeport, CT
Tumblr media
My parents brought me sandwiches from Testo’s in Bridgeport, CT this weekend and I realized I’d never posted about the restaurant or their food here.
Testo’s “was” a legendary Connecticut restaurant for folks “in the know” that closed at the end of 2022, selling the land to be developed as a high rise, supposedly. A classic blue collar hangout, where carpenters, electricians, plumbers and painters all went to unwind, it was the “Cheers” of local contractors. My dad included. At the bar on Saturdays you could get massive $5 roast beef and roast pork sandwiches till they ran out, sometimes as early as 1pm...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
On the most pillowy Portuguese rolls you could imagine, no less!
Their tripe was some of the best we’ve had anywhere in the world...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bowls of housemade hot peppers and pickled onions littered the bar...
Tumblr media
Drinks were stiff and cheap, the pours were generous.
Testo’s was a secret spot for those in the know and they will be sorely missed...
Tumblr media
However, it’s not all doom and gloom as Testo’s always maintained a second, less frequented location, a “pizzeria”, which is still open. This is where my folks went on Saturday as they now sell these famous sandwiches and tripe soup. And I’m happy to report the food is just as good as at the “original”, even is it was takeout for us. Now looking forward to sitting down and eating there soon!

Mum is not keen to try out new stuffs, so I got her to go try something more familiar to her palate. Stopped by Blanco Court Beef Noodles at Northpoint City for a meal of what else but beef noodles. Mum picked the S$9.90 bowl of Beef Tendon Noodles (牛筋粉) with thick rice vermicelli and added Beef Tripe (S$2). While she enjoyed the tendon and tripe, she found the overall taste a little salty for her liking.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I went for a large bowl (S$16.90) of their dry style Superior Beef Noodles (一品牛肉粉) with thick rice vermicelli. It also came with a bowl of soup and a beef ball. Covered in thick gooey gravy are two types of beef, tendon, tripe and pickled sour vegetables. Overall, the flavours aren’t too bad but the portion is a little small for me. Mum was commenting she doesn’t like the viscous gravy coating everything.

While the crispy Tau Kee Roll (S$3.90) or deep-fried bean curd skin rolls came in a reasonable number of pieces, the Cuttlefish Fritters (S$3.90) which are youtiao stuffed with cuttlefish paste came in a miserable three sections serving. Totally not worth my money.

🥩 Vietnamese pho with beef brisket, tripe, tendon and omosa, topped with onions, coriander and spring onion (💸$8.95) from 📍Pho Bang on Mott Street, Chinatown!
🍜 I've been here once before, but bought takeout. I loved it, and since then I've been determined to eat in ever since. 🇻🇳 I can't judge how authentic it is, but I can vouch for good food and friendly and fast service!

Incredible meal at @emiliosballato - "Veal Antonio" leads the pics here because it's absolutely beautiful, but the cherry pepper pork chop once again steals the show. Incredible! Swipe to see the best table bread in the game, followed by tender tripe, a special paccheri vodka with prosciutto, a couple pics of that pork and a close up of the veal, followed by dessert and espresso. This place is awesome. Thank you @chefanthony_ballatosnyc for a great night! #veal #vealparm #vealparmigiana #tripe #focaccia #italianfood #italian #ballato #emiliosballato #porkchop #porkchops #prosciutto #beef #beefitswhatsfordinner #meat #carnivore #eeeeeats #forkyeah #🇮🇹 (at Emilio's Ballato) https://www.instagram.com/p/Ck_LMsDOyIT/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
