You've probably said it before but who's your favorite Belmont

Yeah, I know he's probably the second most popular Belmont after Richter, but sometimes I too am basic :P

I call him the Sonic of Castlevania because he's effortlessly cool, has a bit of an attitude but a heart of gold, doesn't hold grudges against the people who shunned him, and is very, very friendly - you can infere this by how easily all sorts of people follow him in CV3, and how he doesn't hold Alucard's heritage against him when the poor guy was angsting about it. Yeah, so maybe you have to read the manual and really look into the events of a NES game to get an idea of his personality, but that doesn't mean he's a cardboard cutout like NFCV some fans think!

And his sassiness in CoD cracks me up lmao, he's so cocky and confident and he pulls a mean eyebrow and

i may be willing to sell both kidneys for a cod remaster, but only as long as they manage to recreate the sheer amount of raw gay energy exuding from all characters

also i'm a whole believer in the theory that he was so difficult to hector at first because he had a crush on him and was being all tsundere about it. because everyone has a crush on hector. also hevor canon

And even then he's humble when questioned about his title as the one who killed Dracula, he immediately gives credit to his friends <3 he cares <3

Also his design is just really good, the scars that mark him as a survivor, the outfit that is both fashionable and protective (kind of like Hector, but not as confusing lol), the longcoat that goes swish <3 he looks like a professional vampire hunter, practical but not without flare!

And of course,

Another thing he has in common with Sonic: his music slaps me into another dimension. (Beginning is also good! But I prefer his "ohshitohshitohshit the belmont wants me dead aaaaaa" theme :P)

anyway. trevor cool. he's shaped like a friend :)

Aside from him, Leon and Juste also have a special place in my heart! Leon is also just a noblehearted dude who threw everything he had away for the chance of saving his beloved, and after losing LITERALLY EVERYTHING HE HELD DEAR IN ONE NIGHT, he still had the strength to live on and not fall into the temptation Mathias had fallen into. Also his theme is literally my favorite CV track of all time, it's just perfect for him and the part in the game it plays in. Juste is just OP as all hell, and he has a funny personality - he's the prettiest Belmont by a long shot but he's also kind of rude and aggressive? lol - and with him you can start to see the Belmont legacy weigh on his shoulders. I also choose to see something in the way he vehemently denies Maxim the chance to explain what happened to Lydie in the best ending, as if he just wanted to forget everything. And the worst ending of HoD kills me :(

I'm hoping to participate in Art Fight more this year than last year allowed me, and I added Allessandro over there...only to realize I didn't have a colored ref for him! It's been a year since I last drew him so I figured: no better time than now to give him a new fullbody pic!

Fun update: after a month spent searching for his mentor and ending up in Barovia because of it, Saverio finally 'heard' from him a couple sessions ago...only for the message to be vague, short and offer no real answers. Needless to say: Allessandro is still full of mysteries and Saverio is pretty irked at essentially being ghosted by his not-father figure.

Y'know, the way Richter mentioned Sypha almost makes it seem like there's basically zero portraits or anything like that of her and Trevor.

Which is why I desperately need a scene with the return of Alucard's dolls so he can compare how Richter looks to his ancestors.

Earlier today I shared some sketches while tying back to a comic I made a long time ago. It's one that I'm still fond of, but as it's old I wanted to try redrawing one shot that I particularly liked.

That's always really hard to do, but the plus side here is that you now have a better look at what Richter was experiencing (spoiler: it's pain).

I have been having Thoughts about Alucard and Trevor and the act of drinking someone's blood thanks to @beevean............

For starters, those two were definitely bros. Absolute besties. Alucard is the introvert getting adopted by the charismatic extrovert Trevor, for sure. That's the them, I can't picture them as anything less than very close friends. And not anything more, lol, I am physically incapable of romantically shipping Alucard with anyone.

But how could Trevor show Alucard he trusts him, when Alucard is so insecure and afraid?

That's when the blood drinking comes into play... Maybe Alucard didn't need to drink blood. Maybe he did. But it doesn't matter, because Trevor offers it to him anyway, to show he trusts him with his very life. That he knows what Alucard is, and far from ignoring the darkest part of his nature... he embraces and accept it. Alucard is his friend, and a precious ally, and he values him as such. Being a hunter, letting himself be vulnerable to what others could perceive as a predator with no fear, nor doubt... it's the most remarkable show of trust Trevor could display for Alucard. Especially considering Alucard isn't any vampire, but Dracula's son.

But it goes even deeper when you remember that Trevor's blood is not just any blood. It's Belmont blood. Holy, but carrying a heavy duty, wich is passed down generations after generations. This blood is both Trevor's legacy, but also his burden to bear. The reason he's hated as much as he's loved. The reason he had to come to the Castle and fight Dracula to begin with. By drinking it, Alucard accepts to help him carry the weight of his fate, and lets him know that he isn't alone, and will never be. That's how he shows his trust and care for Trevor.

At the end of the day, it's not about feeding or sex. It's about sharing, finding solace in each other, knowing no one would ever be able to understand them as well as they understand each other. Knowing that no one would be able to carry each other like they can. Their bond only comes out of this stronger, knowing they can trust each other fully. Even if Alucard seals himself away to protect the world from his cursed blood, eventually, he won't stop carrying part of his friend's curse for him. Trevor will sleep better, knowing he had the chance to meet him, the chance to share with him the most sacred part of him. Neither will ever find someone like each other, ever again, but that's what makes their friendship so unique.

...anyway, i think they're neat. ❤️

Overall I thought Nocturne was better from an art perspective and worse from... basically every other perspective than Season 1 of Castlevania. Which is really quite sad to me, considering it had double the episodes that Castlevania's first season had.

The art style and animation is incredible, and the music was quite good as well. The character design was also amazing, and nearly the entire main cast looked inspired and interesting. Honestly, it felt like the artists and animators were flexing the entire time.

But the pacing, the voice acting, the setting, the story in general, the sheer amount of exposition, and the dialogue were all lacking so badly. The show tried to accomplish way too much in 8 episodes and suffered pretty terribly for it. If they had scaled the story down significantly, they would have had a lot more time to get the audience actually invested in the characters and plot. It's quite hard to pull off the emotional beats that they attempted when the character has been on screen for 5 minutes total, and for me nearly all of them fell flat. It's especially disappointing that the season ended with the characters losing terribly, because it'll probably be a year at least before we get a continuation (if we get one at all).

Getting to see Alucard at the end was exciting, but it didn't feel like quite the right time. We're just starting to know these characters, so throwing the arguably Most Beloved Castlevania Character into the mix doesn't seem like a particularly good way to get people invested in the rest of the cast. I guess it'll depend on if they can fix the pacing and dialogue issues, but I'm not keeping my hopes up. Either way, glad I got to see his SotN Kojima-style design animated, even if it looks a little divorced from the OG design.

As someone who is a fan of all kinds of swords, big, small, slashy, stabby, fancy, simple, one-handed, two-handed, and especially magic...

There are some way cooler weapons to give to your characters. Give them a throwing axe that comes back to them like a boomerang. Give them two long gauntlet blades and put them on horseback. Let them have outlandishly big hammers. And please, I really don't see enough of this, GIVE YOUR CHARACTERS CHAIN WHIPS LIKE THE BELMONTS HAVE! It's not real life, you can sacrifice a bit of realism because it's just that cool. I love swords, I really do. But I'm begging you- love other weapons too.
