Hello ! I don't think my reply will be very useful to you bc I got it in a coupon sale that my local fabric store was doing, it looks a bit like linen but it's full cotton. I don't order fabric online very much, I either thrift it or buy it locally here in Paris. Sorry that doesn't help !

the best day for it to be is friday! i know everybody says this but everybody is right on that count

however what i was thinking of in my mind with that was the names of the days in different languages, and on that metric its saturday, because

so many languages have variants of shabbat and i like what they do with the letters;

in early german languages most of the latin day names were calqued with comparable norse deities (e.g. dies iovis [day of jupiter] -> *Þunras dag [day of thor]) but saturns was not (dies saturni -> *Sāturnas dag [day of saturn]) and we dont know why (there are some theories but none of them are good/satisfying theories) which is a nice mystery;

some languages base the name on saturn the planet, such as japanese 土曜日 which is from 土星, a combination of 土 (earth/soil) + 星 (star), and i like that there is a day of soil; and

in some mostly scandinavian languages the name comes instead from the old norse laug[r] (e.g. danish lørdag), which means bath, so saturday is the washing-day, and—apparently completely coincidentally—the te reo māori name rāhoroi means the same thing

i think a bigger issue with gendered language is that they have lexical asymmetry - there is a difference of power between the term "governor" and "governess", between "master" and "mistress", etc. etc.

That’s a very very good point. Actually got another ask along these lines:

i’m going to be honest and admit that i know almost nothing about knitting, so the answer is i don’t think so, i was just using the same basic knit stitch the whole time. i was very careful about counting the number of loops i had when i started a row and keeping it consistent? maybe that helped

yeah i honestly just had to block him because some of the thing he says REALLY grate on me (like getting angry at being told one of his costumes was culturally appropriative - it was a colonial indian outfit)

Yeah, his communication skills really need to get sharper...

About the cultural appropriation outfit I’m not one to have an opinion, but I personally, if I made something like that I would have to make a full justification as of why it is important to be made, seen and worn... The only reason I can think of right now is that it must be communicated to not be forgotten, bit I think that it is a project more for someone like Not Your Momma’s History. I genuinely do not know why he made such an outfit and why he reacted so poorly about the comments.
