For your choose violence ask game, 1 and 12, please!
Hey there, this is fun!
1. Character that everyone gets wrong. Funnily every ask has included this, but I'm not going to repeat myself. Instead I'll find a different way to vagueblog about certain of my fellow X-Men fans.
Hank McCoy, aka the Beast, specifically his tenure as Director of X-Force. One group of people simply choose to ignore the run entirely (which is valid - if you don't enjoy then ignoring it can be healthy,) and many reduce him to war crimes memes, which is also valid. I'm definitely not defending his actions at all, but I don't often see the complicity and accountability of the Quiet Council and his subordinates mentioned. Ben Percy's choice to reboot him from factory settings was one I found unsatisfying as it short circuited any kind of trial or reckoning - and everyone else's guilt has been forgotten.

There was a teeny bit of subterfuge
Firstly, every single member of the Quiet Council was there for X-Force's formation and received reports. His first act was torturing a prisoner. There's no arguing that Krakoa needed some kind of security apparatus, but they failed to provide any guidelines, zero checks and balances. They told Hank to protect Krakoa by any means necessary and handed him a morally blank check. He chose to do the things he did but he was enabled by those who knew even after he left Krakoa. They chose to keep him out in the world as a deniable asset. Again, not to diminish his culpability but the monster that was Hank McCoy had many parents. The simple fact that he wasn't very effective at protecting Krakoa should have been cause for review, even if the ethical calculus is non existent.
His team didn't have all the information but they had enough to know better and were involved in the team in the first place. 'Just following orders' should be odious to modern readers, and even Jean chose to quit while leaving the system in place rather than do anything about it. They eventually moved to a better model, but after genocides were met with light scoldings I wasn't surprised at the degree of sunk cost fallacy Beast fell into. I wish we got a serious meditation on how you can't be the director of the CIA without damaging your soul irreparably, but I think we got enough to illustrate my point. I often wondered how he felt about everything - during the first Hellfire Gala he asked Xavier if he'd disappointed him and heard 'not yet' back - I got the impression he was outsourcing his morality and it's unsurprising that he was able to reconcile it with his actions.
Solicits for X-Men #8 show the President of Terra Verde at Graymalkin to see Beast punished for his crimes. It's a shame he can't remember any of it because it was done by someone else. There's no Quiet Council or Krakoa to punish anymore, and I'm disappointed that accountability never came for any of the guilty people.
12. The unpopular character that you actually like and why more people should like them.
EXODUS, baby. Two of the big themes of Krakoa were compromise and community, and Exodus' previous publication history showed he was not well suited to either (except for that bizarre time he worked for SHIELD but I ignore that.) Up to that point he'd been an obscenely powerful religious fundamentalist and mutant supremacist but hadn't had enough page time to explore that in any depth.
Seriously, his style is out of this world.
When he arrived on Krakoa and was given a seat on the Quiet Council he was absolutely both of those things, though he proved himself committed to good governance without any agenda. By being part of an ostensibly egalitarian community for the first time he became a true believer and slowly ditched his old methods of blunt force for community-building and fiercely protecting it from outside threats. He compromised while looking fabulous.
Exodus had frequent campfire educational sessions with kids, he rewrote scripture as his theology evolved (Jesus as the Nazarene Mutant is everything to me,) he put his faith in Hope and Krakoa as a polity but moreso as a people. He tried to convince Doug to die temporarily so he could take his place in X of Swords, risking permanent death. His labelling of Wanda as The Pretender was pretty uncomfortable, but after The Trial of Magneto he invited her in to tell her own story.
Then Immortal X-Men began and the 3 event comics put him through the wringer. First was Judgement Day where he fought and killed towering death machines while simultaneously leading the psychic countersiege on the Uni-Mind. He was tested by the Progenitor with a public simulation of his old boyfriend in hell. He stuck to his code and passed, but he also bumrushed a demon to free Garrington from his grasp. Exodus objected to humans being resurrected, but he still accepted Nightcrawler's argument. When Syne the Memetaur was resurrected for the last time, he rushed to fight her but lowered his fists when she started to talk about poetry. He ended up collaborating with this cthulhu that had torched Krakoa and killed countless mutants to fight a celestial and save the world for everyone. Compromise.
After Sins of Sinister, he accepted his capacity for evil and submitted to very unpleasant measures to ensure Sinister's influence was purged. When the fight kicked off he stuck to the agreement and didn't join the fight, even at Hope's request. His breakdown after he tried to kill the very obvious bad actor Selene highlighted the flaws of Krakoa's government, and played a crucial part in transition to democracy.
Fall of X prevented that being implemented, and after thrashing a ton of sentinels he pivoted to the safety of everyone else, especially The Five. When the Krakoan diaspora ended up in the desert of the White Hot Room, he wore a midriff and stepped up for 250K scared and leaderless mutants - choosing to inspire and protect instead of his old methods - he'd come full circle. His actions after that are a whole other post, but I hope I've made my point. I don't trust religious fundamentalists, generally speaking. My kneejerk reaction to Exodus was 'fuck, he's going to ruin everything' but he avoided the hypocrisy and selfishness, the refusal to allow change that underpins my experience with IRL fundamentalism. He compromised and grew, and definitely walked the walk.
Is he unhinged? Yes, fortunately. Does he have some bizarre beliefs? Absolutely, but they weren't based on nothing and he ended up being right. When Hope was prepping to sacrifice herself to rebirth The Phoenix he begged to die in her place. He was the only adult to level with Kafka and be honest with him about the reality of the White Hot Room. More than most he committed to the promise of Krakoa and put everything into making that a reality. He's also not fooling anyone with his vow of celibacy not being related to his true love dying 900 years ago.

The Tilney Family Album: Volume XIX
Being an elder isn't slowing Lizzy down. She's still hungry for knowledge...
...and still climbing that career ladder as a result.
Until one day, there's someone there to meet her when she gets home from work...
As Lizzy leaves this mortal plane - through the mailbox - Henry's friend from work Jan Tellerman seems disproportionately upset over the death of someone she hardly knows. But those turn out to be crocodile tears that she's shedding...
With Jan waiting for her moment, Henry takes consolation for his loss in his feline friend.
Henry is surprised and flattered - he never realised that Jan might feel that way about him, although he has just received quite a nice pay-out for the loss of his beloved wife, which could certainly be contributing to his current appeal...
Jan is sending out some rather mixed signals though. It seems she possibly finds his money attractive, but his personal attributes not quite so much.
Over in Sanditon, it's granddaughter Esme's first birthday! She looks so much like mum Eleanor.
~ Capricorn 6 / 7 / 10 / 4 / 7
~ Adventurous / Athletic
With the kids growing up and space in their small bungalow at a premium, Eleanor and Esther decide it's time to get their house in order, and they lay their beloved rescue dogs Max and Buffy to rest in the corner of Sanditon cemetery that has been set aside for pets; and we enjoy a spontaneous romantic interlude between Townies Marisa Bendett and Benjamin Long - aww!
However, it soon becomes clear to everyone that the most satisfactory situation all round would be for the family to move in with widower Henry, back in Merybury, where there's plenty of space for the children to grow. Ellis's first priority is to introduce himself to Kobe.
It's been a long while since Henry has had rugrats playing on the rug.
But he hasn't forgotten how to be the most attentive dad/granddad ever.

I started reading this Webtoon thinking I'd enjoy reading the first episodes, but then lose interest after a while and stop reading, like I usually do. But it didn't happen. Instead, this became one of my favorite Webtoons. This was one hell of a ride and I'm so sad it's over, but I had a lot of fun while it was still going and it brought me and lots of other people a lot of happiness. I'm so proud of all the characters, who all matured throughout their journey, and of Jimena, for creating one of the best stories I've ever seen. Thank you so much for the laughs and the crying and all the emotions I felt while reading your comic! ♡♡♡

Is there anything from the Philippines that everyone likes? Just curious.
I like this ask a ton because I can now expose that yes I'm also a filipino (half) and have lived in the phillippines for a short time.
Agent Phoenix's favorite thing is Maruya! Maruya are fried banana patties and is personally one of my favorite snack to make >:) He's absolutely love the cuisine! (Fun fact: if Polyblank was assgined an ethnicity, she'd be filipino and american!)
Agent Stardust would love Ube Cake Rolls. As much as he doesn't like to admit it, he's a sucker for sweets of any kind. Ube is one of his favorites, especially homemade Ube Halaya! As for Agent Sunflower, he'd like the Barongs in particular. He'd love the texture, lightness and colors of them. He appreciates the material and customization.

Qasim Rashid at Let's Address This:
In March the Netanyahu regime shattered the ceasefire it agreed to and killed at least 400 Palestinians. This week, Netanyahu again broke the ceasefire, bombing Gaza and killing at least 112 more Palestinian civilians, the majority of them women and children. In response, the United States Senate yesterday voted 85–15 to send Netanyahu more bombs. Let’s not mince words. This is genocide. And the U.S. Senate—by an overwhelming bipartisan vote—just signed off on it. Again. Let’s Address This.
Hypocrisy Kills Democracy
Ask yourself: How can we possibly hope to stop fascism at home, if we are arming fascists abroad? Senator Sanders explained what was at stake:
[The sales would provide almost $8.8 billion more in heavy bombs and other munitions to Netanyahu, including more than 35,000 massive 2,000-pound bombs. The first resolution, S.J.Res 33, would block a sale of $2.04 billion for 35,329 MK 84 2,000 lb. bombs and 4,000 I-2000 Penetrator warheads. The second resolution, S.J.Res.26, would block $6.75 billion for 2,800 500-pound bombs, 2,166 Small Diameter Bombs, and tens of thousands of JDAM guidance kits.]
In addition to a unanimous yes vote from MAGA Republicans, some 32 Democratic Senators voted yes to continue funding this mass atrocity. They are as follows:
[Duckworth, King, Alsobrooks, Peters, Slotkin, Klobuchar, Masto, Warner, Murray, Cantwell, Baldwin, Rosen, Shaheen, Hassan, Booker, Schumer, Gillibrand, Wyden, Fetterman, Reed, Whitehouse, Kelly, Gallego, Padilla, Schiff, Bennet, Hickenlooper, Blumenthal, Coons, Rochester, Ossoff, and Warnock.]
So while the Democratic Party tweets about saving democracy, and speaks from the podium for 25 hours and 5 minutes about the importance of human life and dignity for all, it simultaneously proudly votes to fund one of the gravest human rights catastrophes of our time. And remember, at least 77% of Democratic voters want Democrats to stop arming Netanyahu. How does party leadership expect to rally their base and win elections when they spit in the face of nearly 8 in 10 voters?
[...]
15 Votes For Justice
But not everyone gave in. Below are the 15 Democratic and Independent Senators who voted NO on Trump’s arms deal to Netanyahu. The Senators who instead chose to fight for humanity, international law, and justice are as follows:
Chris Murphy (CT)
Mazie Hirono (HI)
Brian Schatz (HI)
Dick Durbin (IL)
Ed Markey (MA)
Elizabeth Warren (MA)
Chris Van Hollen (MD)
Tina Smith (MN)
Andy Kim (NJ)
Martin Heinrich (NM)
Ben Ray Luján (NM)
Jeff Merkley (OR)
Tim Kaine (VA)
Bernie Sanders (VT)
Peter Welch (VT)
We thank them. And we also acknowledge that this is the bare minimum. We need them to continue to expand this coalition and not relent in the fight for justice until we can force Netanyahu to relent in bombing civilians and honor the ceasefire. Because for the other 85 Senators who voted to fund war crimes and mass murder—do you realize that you are complicit? That you are failing the test of history, of morality, and of basic decency? Your vote for more war—especially in breach of the ceasefire you agreed to—betrays both the Palestinian people and the American people who entrusted you with the responsibility to uphold justice.
15 brave Senate Democrats courageously voted to block the sending of bombs to Israel Apartheid State PM Benjamin Netanyahu, including Warren, Durbin, Sanders, Markey, and Kaine.

I don't know if you've been asked this question before (sorry if you have 🤦♀️) but I was wondering if you think people would still make fun of the name Renesmee (saying Rigatoni, Retrograde etc) if it weren't associated with Twilight? Or do you think people would still do that regardless?
I suspect people would still make jokes about it in the same way people used to (do they still do?) joke about Benedict Cumberbatch by calling him like Benadryl Cabbagepatch or whatever. Some people just have unusual, memorable (and meme-able!) names.
Within the Twilight world though, I think part of the problem with 'Renesmee' as a name is that it's just SO jarring compared to all the other names. "Renesmee Cullen" wouldn't feel especially weird in say, Hogwarts or Panem. Those places are full of whimsical fantasy names.
But Twilight doesn't really do those kind of names. Some of the most powerful beings in the Twilight world are named things like Alice, Edward, Jane, Benjamin, Chelsea and Kate. Even the visiting vampires have common, perhaps even stereotypical, names for their countries for the most part (Siobhan, Liam, Vladimir . . . although that's more Russian than Romanian. Kebi and Amun are very old Ancient Egyptian names, etc). The other less common names don't feel as jarring in context. I've never met anyone in real life named 'Quil,' but it clearly references the Quileute tribe so blends right in within the story. 'Aro' is not Greek or Roman but it's short and simple and so not distracting. "Renesmee" stands out -- as it was intended to do! But perhaps it does it a little too well. It constantly pulled me out of the story, personally.
It also, IMO, feels wildly out of character for Bella Swan of all people to pick. This feels like SM named the child, not that Bella the character did. I will die on the hill that Bella the character wouldn't have done the "needs a special name" thing, especially since she was planning on naming a boy Edward Jacob/Junior! Bella Swan would have named this child Elizabeth after Edward's bio mom and Elizabeth Bennet. I just feel it in my bones. SM as the author said "no human name would work for me" and made one up. As is her right! It just didn't feel Bella-ish to me (for the record, EJ 100% did feel like exactly what Bella would pick).
So I think that's why the RenesMemes live on. 1. It's a memorably unusual name, 2. It doesn't fit within its own world, 3. It feels out of character for "born 35 and getting more middle aged" Bella to pick.
