Video game in which you are an isopod.

earth fact time. in the deep ocean there are things called brine pools, which are essentially lakes of water separate from the ocean water. they're formed when water seeping through the ocean floor mixes with salt deposits, so the actual brine pools themselves are too salty and too toxic for most things to live in. but because they're so mineral rich, there's a bunch of really cool things living around them!
some examples include mussels, crabs, echinoderms, and sea cucumbers.

Who are some of your characters for Benthic Zone? :o if you don't mind me asking! the posts you've been reblogging for it have such cool vibes
OMG HI HELLO
this ask genuinely made my day, I hadn't planned on talking about the story too much since my target audience has been my friend's group chat
but lets' see where do I start ermmmmm
It's a post apocalyptic horror story based around themes of accepting your fate versus breaking lose from it to choose your own path! Also themes of grief and relationships with duty / responsibility / obligation.
There are a few different areas that I've based on different styles of "punk" in sci-fi writing. I have the solarpunk landbound cowboys, the cyberpunk spacedwellers and the steampunk underwater seadwellers which is prolly why the posts you've seen have been so varied haha
The two main characters are these two guys named Dylan Canick and Daralis McAllister! (I just finished art of them earlier this week )
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dylan is this sort of cynical jaded once-been famous adventurer (who now most people think died in his last adventure) who's been hired to escort Daralis across the world. There's this prophecy about Daralis and how he's going to save the world that the man is just NOT interested in at all; whereas Dylan has been specifically hired to help him finish it. So you can see the kind of shenanigans that they get up to with these conflicting interests!
There are a lot of other characters too that I've been working on but these two are the most developed as of right now :D And of course there's definitely more to it than that as I continue to work on it (it's my passion project)

I don't even know what a benthic zone is (feel free to explain if you feel like infodumping) but every time you spam it I'm like :) benthic spam time go off little squid you absolute marine maniac (affectionate)
hehe prepare for microsoft paint indulgence and a ramble about different zones in marine environments!! :D
(i have no idea how these images are going to format so sorry in advance, and i would do image id's but at the moment it is 1:18 am and i do not trust myself to be coherent at all -_-... also! slight warning for animal death? theres a tiny thumbnail about whale falls)

Screw getting covered by moss and forgotten by the world. Take me where the sun dare not venture. Let me rest among the eternally starving. Feed my body to the unland of the ancients. I want to be overtaken by the hunger of a thousand things that do not care to know what I was. I want my bones to rest in the snow that knows no frost, that falls to trenches rather than mountains. Bury me under the infinite weight of the sky that swallows all color. Leave me to vanish under the living constellations as they speak to one another in a language unknowable.

I don’t have anything for halloween tbh but I was messing with some cool gradients on the Babi ‘totem’, that I kind of wanted to post apart from the comic, so here’s that.

squid being normal about the benthic zone aesthetic post.

When you consider the immense depths of the ocean's and how little we have explored, how many weird as fuck things are down there? Like a Bigfoot fish. Or a mersquid.
If there were any undiscovered apex predators in the deep sea, we'd have found some evidence of them by now. Not necessarily photos or a live specimen, but we'd find whales/whale corpses with telltale signs of predation. The earliest evidence we had of the goant squid was sucker marks on the sides of sperm whales, and their beaks were found in chunks of ambrgris. If megalodon still existed, we'd be able to see their effects on whale populations and behavior. There are, no doubt, countless species yet to be discovered, I just don't think there's anything phenomenal down there. That said, I think a cephalopod mersquid would be viable then a mammalian mermaid because squid tentacles are dexterous and could manipulate tools, while mermaid "hands" would necessarily have evolved into paddles like whales, dolphins, manatees, useless for fine movement.
