would be super interested to see/hear what your audio system looks like

okay so disclaimer i'm not actually a professional and i also don't have toooo much money to spend but this is my best attempt at making a good audio system (optimised for music production):

i'm running it just into my laptop, which has two usb-a ports and 1 usb-c port. on the laptop i have ableton live 12 which i use to produce my music. then the main interface i have is a focusrite scarlett 2i2, which isn't the best audio interface out there but it's small enough to fit on a shelf above my desk:

coming out of the front is an adapter which plugs into my sennheiser hd600s, which are the baseline for audiophile quality. they make listening to music an amazing experience.

coming out of the back (and dangling out on the right) is an xlr cable which connects to my shure sm58:

it’s a good mic for my purposes, and records my voice and guitars. i should probably get a better mic for guitars, but this one does the job just fine. since the audio interface plugs into my pc, it can also be used for voice chat if you’re that type of person.

if i have to record the bass, it can plug into either of the ports on the front of the interface. i don’t use a bass amp and if i had to i would use a plugin in ableton instead, but the sm58 works to record guitar amps also.

the other thing i have connected to my audio interface is a set of computer speakers, this time combining two line imputs into a 3.5mm headphone jack. they’re just kind of shit computer speakers, but they do their job and have a complimentary subwoofer and tweeter. they are fine for monitors, but would be the first thing i would replace.

the other port on my computer is dedicated to an akai mpk mini plus, which is a midi controller that lets me play all sorts of fun synthesizers as well as play drums and turn lots of very fun little knobs:

i have such a small one because 1. it’s cheap and 2. it sits on my desk.

the other thing i have is an external cd/dvd drive which plugs into the usb-c port. i have a cd drive because i can burn cds, which you can’t do with a traditional cd player, and because it connects to my computer which means it’s very seamlessly integrated with the setup.

my record player actually has an entirely separate setup. the turntable is a crosley c6, which isn’t actually very good but it’s a large step up from suitcase players (which destroy records.) it sits on a dedicated table which also houses all my records and cds:

on a flimsy table to the right of the record player’s table, there are a set of edifier speakers. they are simultaneously better and worse than my computer speakers, because they have great clarity but zero bass. i need to get a subwoofer to suppliment them.

that’s the setup! i also have a pair of sony noise cancelling heaphones for those damned sensory issues, a jbl speaker that i bought when i was young, and probably other ways to play music that i cannot think of.

oh also the hd600s need an amp, because they have a high resistance. luckily the audio interface already does that

Why Stackie is the greatest bromance of all time

Well for starters, they’re hilarious, so there’s that!

What I also like is their ability to make any interviewer go “???”, wonder what they’re doing there and reconsider all the life choices they made that led them to that very moment in front of the Stackie Duo, including their decision to study journalism.

But one of the things I really like about Sebastian and Anthony's relationship is that you can really see the evolution of their friendship throughout the years, and how they adapted to each other's personalities.

Everyone has their own way of expressing their love, including these actors: like Paul Bettany is a kisser, Chris Evans is a toucher I guess ( I don't watch enough of non-Stackie interviews to draw conclusions), and Anthony is a joker/comedian, if he likes you, he will tease you, make fun of you and make it his personal mission to make you smile/laugh. He doesn't seem to like being affectionate type etc, he looked like the kind who would accept affection but doesn't really initiate it. He would rather make jokes,  hit your arm playfully or do a fist bump with you. 

Sebastian is a little bit more "Extra" when expressing his love: we all remember the Instagram birthday post, his unprompted "I love you" in the middle of an interview, "Why aren't you looking at me as much in these interviews?" "I want to spend all my time with Anthony" and he also seems to be a little bit more affectionate, and also like to touch his friends (at least the way I see it).

At least that was the situation in the beginning: Anthony, the hilarious guy who had all the jokes and all the punchlines, and Seb the shy guy who liked affection, and adored Anthony for making him come out of his shell.

And as the years passed, we saw a shift in their relationship, where both of them made efforts to go in the other's direction and accommodate to the other's personalities.

During the first years, Seb wasn't even that funny. A lot of Sebastian Stan stans get mad when I say this but Seb was only funny when Anthony was around to make the jokes. I'm sorry and I love Sebastian but that's the truth.

Now, he's much more comfortable, and is so open when joking with Anthony and has a few punchlines on his own:

First we had successful attempts: "which way is the beach Seabass, which way is the beach" "Down there" "PapiChulo".

And now, he's much more confident in his jokes and always manages to make everyone laugh, even Anthony, "You ready for the Falcon?", "I'm sorry but Chris Evans he ain't got nothing down there".

Sebastian is almost a comedian now!

One thing I've also noticed and I love is that whenever Sebastian starts making a joke now, Anthony will start laughing even BEFORE Seb starts talking, as if he already knows what Sebastian is going to say or as if he knows that whatever Sebastian, it’s just great to see how they’re used to each other now.

And from Anthony's side, he also seems more in touch with what Seb likes and doesn't like: 

One example that comes in mind is that I've noticed that fist bumps aren't really Seb's thing 😂, so'll he'll fist bump Anthony if  Anthony initiates it, but other than that, he'll prefer hugs or literally anything else, and I've noticed that Anthony doesn't really do the fist bumps with Seb anymore and will adapt to Seb's needs, praising him or touching him.

Also Anthony seems to be more affectionate with Seb: Seb recently complained that Anthony doesn't show his soft side with him, but Anthony disagreed. And I kind of agree with Anthony because it looks like he shares his soft side with Seb all the time. 

Side note for Seb: For you to know that Anthony has a soft side, he would have had to share it with you in the first place!

Why I think that Anthony is super affectionate with Seb:

Exhibit A: He'll put his hand around Seb because I quote " [Sebastian] likes to be close"

Exhibit B. Anthony will put his arm around Seb so they can walk together for literally 10 meters.  (The gif quality is bad but after a panel, Seb really waited for Anthony, even though they were probably headed in the same way just so that they could walk away together, top right of the gif). Why do they have to be this dramatic all the time?? 

Exhibit C: Anthony putting his arm around Seb to share a mic (I don't know Sebastian personally but I know that that man pretented his mic was broken so he could share it with Anthony. I just know it)

He's also more expressive in his love for Seb: “I love you man” "I want to keep Sebastian all to myself" in the Kelly Clarkson interview.

I don't really know if Seb is Anthony's best friend because Anthony looks like the kind of guy who can get along with anybody, and has a lot of friends but it sure looks like Anthony IS Seb's best friend.   

They really brought out the best out of each other, and maybe Sebastian wouldn't even be where he is today without Anthony. Who knows if he would have had a leading role in a Marvel show with Anthony if it weren’t for their dynamic. 

But also maybe Anthony wouldn't be here today without a friend who hypes him up and makes him laugh so much that their friendship became iconic and inspired a multi-billion company to make a show about them.

I think one other reason I like that duo is that in friendship, I'm both of them at the same time! I will tease my friends whenever I can but I also need to be hugged at all times.

I won't pretend I know them or their personalities, I'm just sharing what I think based on the interviews I've watched, so, of course I could be wrong. This is just an observation.

I love to tease Sebastian on his "extraness" with Anthtony (and i’ll never stop), but the truth is the two of them adore each other and it's very heartwarming to see a friendship like theirs!!!

Podficcing Without A Laptop

My laptop was fried earlier this week, so of course my first thought was that this is the perfect time to Record All The Things. Since I made a post ~4 years ago about podficcing without a laptop, and it's basically a whole new world now, I figured I'd make a post with the steps I took to make a podfic fully and completely on my phone:

- hooked up my Samson Meteor mic to a usb a-usb c adapter

- plugged the mic into my phone

- recorded 2 different audio files in ASR, as .wav and .flac (tried both to experiment, as both are lossless file formats - the .flac file took up less space on my phone’s memory when compared to a similarly-length’d podfic in .wav format)

- edited the audio file in Lexis Audio (and saved a copy as both .wav and .flac for further experiments)

- made some coverart in PicsArt

- put the edited audio file and cover into Auphonic to combine & convert to mp3 (Auphonic has a free tier that gives you up to 2 hours of audio editing per month, per email address/account: you can convert file types, reduce file size, switch from stereo to mono if need be, do noise leveling and hum removal, add art and metadata to the final file all at once, and even use their AI-powered adaptive filtering to get rid of intermittent background noise. Finally, the back of the laptop is also packed with a good pair of ports. You get a good Thunderbolt 4 port, an RJ-45 port that is a Killer GB LAN up to 2.5G, and an HDMI port capable of going as high as 8K @ 60Hz. You naturally get your power in the port that is meant for the massive 330 Watt adapter.

When it comes to connectivity, the GE67 HX comes with Killer ax Wi-Fi 6E + Bluetooth v5.2 and a 2.5G LAN port. As you can see for yourself, the GE67 HX with more than enough I/O options that should be enough for any gamer or just an everyday joe.

Audio Quality

The MSI GE67 HX comes with a dual speaker 2x2W Dynaudio speaker setup that in theory should be a good listening experience. MSI has done well to make sure the setup is nicely tucked away to the sides thereby giving it an elegant and useful mix. While the speakers do output a good amount of bass I could actually feel, the overall effect was decent.

The speaker quality itself is quite satisfying with a good mix of sound quality and details. The overall volume while a bit low is still loud enough for a group of people to enjoy tunes or movies. This in turn makes the Raider GE67 HX 12UHS a proper entertainment laptop that mostly gets its audio right.

Webcam and Microphone

I am so used to encountering 720p webcams on laptops that the Full HD one on the MSI Raider GE67 knocked me for a loop. Since this is a Full HD webcam, the level of detail and sharpness is noticeably better than what I find on most laptops. This translates to better images and videos that handle light better and generally look much better. However, do keep in mind that this webcam is not a Windows Hello webcam so goodbye to IR scanning.

The microphone setup matches the webcam’s performance and records audio quite well. The audio is quite balanced and neither too loud nor too quiet. Thankfully, you don’t need to be sitting close to your mic to make that happen. My experience with this camera and mic setup was generally quite good.

Battery and Charging

The MSI GE67 HX comes with a 99.9 Whr battery along with a massive 330W power brick. While one would expect all-day battery life with this laptop, I knew that wasn’t going to be the case.

However, despite my moderate usage of battery, the GE67 lasted a little over 5 hours on a single charge. It goes without saying that I had the system RGB lights off and power plan at efficiency to make this happen. And before you ask, I did not test the battery life while gaming.

Fortunately, this was actually a good experience as I’m used to short battery life on laptops. When it comes to charging, the process is slow. A single 10 to 100% cycle takes a little over 2 hours to charge. The only problem I had is the massive 330 Watt charging brick that comes paired with the laptop. If you’re someone looking for a portable gaming experience, you will need to get used to carrying a monster around.

MSI Raider GE67 HX Review: Is It the Ultimate Beast?

There is a certain price threshold beyond which the affordable goes out the window and performance gaming takes over. The MSI GE67 HX is a heavyset player in the market that is meant for gamers who want nothing but the best. Sporting a beautiful 240Hz OLED screen along with the latest CPU and GPU combo from Intel and Nvidia, the MSI GE67 HX is a laptop that will devour everything you throw at it.

However, all that performance comes at a price, quite literally. The MSI GE67 HX Raider‘s base 12UGS variant begins with a price tag of Rs 2,59,990 and goes all the way up to Rs 4,47,990. Now, I do not need to tell you that this makes this an expensive deal. However, if you are willing to shell out the money, you will be pleasantly surprised by what it offers. And if you are willing to go all the way and buy the highest-end variant, like the one we have reviewed here, you’ll get the latest and greatest with a big price tag.

However, for gamers willing to make compromises on a few areas due to budget constraints, there are a few good alternatives out there. An example of this is the Alienware x15 R2, a capable laptop sporting the same specs but an IPS panel. The Alienware x15’s 3070 Ti variant is priced at Rs 2,81,300. However, I recommend going in for the long haul and getting the MSI GE67 HX gaming machine for its breathtaking performance, fantastic visuals, and gaming profile that will future-proof you for years to come.
