Introducing the Doo Doo Save File - Version One!

Disclaimer:

This save is still very much a work in progress. While most things appear to be complete (such as builds), there's still a lot to be done. So, keep that in mind. Also, I tried my best to playtest everything, but this is a HUGE save. So, it's possible I missed things. If I did, feel free to let me know!

💀⚡ TWST RAREPAIR SUMMER — week 6 — prompt: convention

I think a weeb convention is the only public event idia feels comfy enough to attend lol. And now he's dragging his bf along~

my jaw dropped when i read robes idia's vignette and saw the artwork JSHDFGSDH. then i swore to myself i'd draw him in aoba's outfit someday. and now we're here~

disclaimer that i don't know jack shit about one piece. only picked zoro cuz the hair color and swords lol. i last watched it aired on tv in like 2006 omg i feel so old ughhgfdgf

i just traced a photo i took during a weeb event in february(?) cuz i'm def NOT drawing the bg from scratch orz. kinda half assed some of the details too HAHAHA

Process under the cut because why not?..

I used a reference photo of some random theater play. And I will be honest that reference literally started it all because it was perfect for multiple characters. You can see similar poses and lighting as well lol

It's funny you can't see Razzle here because I was trying hard to hide from Bean that I included him ahahaha

Me struggling with bg... And all the characters too hahha. Have no idea why I chose such complicated designs together (well, some of them are complicated yeah)

Lined and ready... My friends were like "you aren't going to colour it, right?" Right.

I finished rendering bg first, surprisingly it took me only two hours and one layer haha. I see some mistakes already but was too eager to finally be done with it. Not gonna show bg separately because I don't want it to be used anywhere but here <3 Then I layed out all the colours(the fact that some details died with final render always kills me from inside slightly<//3) and shaded the characters. Each character took me from 20-40 minutes, depending on how complicated their design and lighting were. I was really determined to make every character look good in their own environment, like on close ups, but also to make the whole thing work as whole too.

Funny how ugly it looks without final effects too lmao. The final pic you have already saw. Thanks for attention<3

How do you draw backgrounds?? It always looks so good. And how long does it take you

Hey thanks! Sometimes I kinda just yolo it and do whatever kind of makes sense (especially if it's a comic, impressionistic strokes can get the job done pretty well since ppl are mostly gonna be concerned about what the little people in front of them are up to). In these kinds of bgs I try to spend no more than 10-20 minutes on them (much easier if it's a place I've already drawn or designed before).

If I'm tryharding it or have to design a place I just get a big pile of references from google earth, Pinterest, irl, other artists (for ideas on palettes + how to translate certain forms + structures into a drawing), etc. and collage it in my brain. I only really draw real life places that are usually accessible to me so I don't have to work as hard as fantasy/sci fi artists lol. This bg is based off of this stock photo and took me a couple days.

I think the most difficult thing about backgrounds in a style like mine is controlling the values to make the right parts pop out but still feel realistic, so it involves a lot flipping back and forth between grayscale to figure out what to do sometimes. But yeah! Don't have much else to say on bg's other than yolo more than you tryhard (or don't. Idk. Do what feels right!! Live your truth!!)

Oppet real (making of oppet)

Oppet! My friend @marikedrawinge 's ttrpg character Oppet the kobold. This is how I made them into a real puppet. Puppet making is fun, if youve made fursuits or plushies before the skills are really similar and theres lots of tutorials.

Drape patterning for their head... never done this before but its really fun. Its a lot different to tape patterning

Also I made their eyes out of foil and polymer clay that I squished against a spoon to make sure the shape was symmetrical. The most stressful part was painting the pupils in the right place I basically avoided it until it was almost the last thing to do

Patterning their body and limbs by just drawing my best guess on paper.

Hard to explain and show in a photo but I made joints with string and buttons so their arms can move more freely than if they were sewn onto the body.

Piercing, I just did tiny buttonhole sewing around a hole I cut in their ear and made the piercing with styrene that I molded into a cylinder with boiling water. Oppet went to Claire's.

Hold them like a kitten.

Making their tunic. I used this amazing patterning resource based on a real tunic found on a bog body. Oppet was very patient while I took tons of measurements and taped paper drafts to them. (In bg: failed first Oppet attempt that came out too big lol)

Final steps I forgot to take pictures of: making and adding hair (tapered tubes of faux fur basically) painting and glueing down eyes. Making little eyelids and stitching them down.

Our hotel was actually around this location so I walked on this path twice a day for awhile. I took a bunch of photos because I thought it was scenic (not bc of stpm clairvoyance).

(In fact you can even see the hotel I stayed at in the bg of this frame??)

I have survived Day Two of the convention.

I was DETERMINED to get a Neil autograph today. This time, I tracked down his autograph line (it didn't have a sign yet) and got in line at 9ish. I wasn't the first, but I was close.

Autos began at 11:00. Neil's photo ops were at 1:00. I shouldn't have had anything to worry about, right?

Right?

Ha.

The BG cast didn't come out until 12:00.

But that was at least an hour. I was CLOSE. I shouldn't have had anything to worry about, right?

Right?

With most actors, sure. But Neil? He's chatty. He's said before that his lines are slow because if someone is gonna pay to see him, he's gonna make it worth their time.

So his line crawled. It doesn't help that I don't think he's used to being this popular; he's never had this many people before.

I was almost panicking the closer I got; it was almost 1, and I'd already been screwed over once because of an op. But the handler wasn't paying attention to the time, and I was able to get my auto before he left.

When the handler asked my name for the auto, I added "wyntereyez" to see if he'd react. He always seems thrilled by his "originals" on stream, so I was curious.

Well, first he introduced himself. I told him my name. Then he told me his, again.

Guess he wants me to be absolutely sure I knew his name is Neil.

You know, just in case I missed it when I followed his streams. And bought his ops.

Oh, you adorable goober.

And then he spotted my online name on the auto. I was hoping for a reaction, but I wasn't expecting as much of a reaction as I got.

He was excited, and he hugged me and asked if he could call me wyntereyez (I now have to legally change my name to that) and asked a bit about me.

(Interestingly, in the loud convention area where it was hard to hear me, he thought I was German. Apparently Midwestern and German have a similar cadence? LOL.)

Then he thanked me for coming, and we did the table selfies, which I've already shared but have one again.

And then I left for his photo op.

When I did it yesterday, there was a queue to keep us in order. This time around, there was a disorganized mob, and I missed them calling my group number.

Also, Neil nearly introduced himself again, but stopped as soon as he recognized me and thanked me again for coming.

My last big thing was the BG3 panel.

The process to get in was TERRIFYING.

We were basically put in queues by a woman who missed her calling as a drill sergeant, and led to the auditorium; a process that took so long we were ten minutes late.

But it was a good panel.

And then my legs announced they weren't going to take any more of this, so I left.

So ended Day Two of MCM.

your art is so pretty and your anatomy feels so solid. How did you learn how to draw?

thank you <3 i've been drawing since i was a child, so it's something i've passively & actively worked on for years! i didn't go to art college (i took art classes in K-12 though they were painting focused) and i don't do art for work, it's just a hobby i have fun with.

i still feel like i'm learning - i do figure studies (not as many as i want…) and use references (googled, models, or photos i take myself) when i draw poses/clothing/bg elements/etc i'm unfamiliar with. the boring answer is that it's all just practice and training your eye/hand. it's a little exhausting but when i draw from reference i concentrate on why something is shaped the way it is and how it connects/interacts w/other elements in 3d space - this mindset teaches me more than copying a ref w/o deeper thought does.

having something you want to draw is also helpful. i remember seeing the neopets faeries when i was a child and thinking they were the coolest thing ever so i drew them over and over again LOL. and now i'm doing the same thing 100 years later with thistle :/

the circle is really small huh. so one of zz’s co-stars in wdb posted a video of him playing the violin and in the bg is ‘joker’. we know zz/wyb loves that film and i guess everyone else. lol. so people started looking at his profile and well —- he is also following wyb. which is interesting cause they haven’t worked together before. but looks like he is fond of skateboards, and wyb is skateboard ambassador extraordinaire so that may be the link here. tho that’s just one photo on his weibo where he took a picture and the background is a wall of skateboards. nothing of him doing it. so we could also be wrong and he just found that background cool to take a photo. or maybe he is yibo movie fan. who knows.

another example of people they work with following the other and we can’t figure out what’s the connection except zz & wyb. like those SDC people following zz suddenly. this person only follows 94 accounts so i think he is not the type to just randomly follow someone just because. wyb barely posts on his weibo so it’s not like you can keep up with his life if you follow him. yesterday i was talking about that other actress who mentioned yibo and now this. what’s with the wdb team? lol. do you all know something we don’t? 🤭🤭🤭

I LOVE Rio xd I totally liked him in the anime, was a little disappointed that in the other media he often looks more young unu like in the anime he clearly looks older (you can imagine with this who is really my fav lol) xd He is 28, but well his more young version by Kazui sensei is still very cute uwu

Also, I know he is also mostly serious or expresionless in the anime and manga, but like IN EVERY CARD OF THE GAME HE APPEARS SMILING WHEN YOU EVOLVE THE CARD xd so you cant say that he isnt a smiling boi uwu and i like that a lot uwu so all the pics I took of him are smiling or trying to be cool and failing cause he is kinda himbo uwu that's why Rio and Dice together always look so cute uwuw two himbos together xd
