FEATURE: Anik-anik to Win it: Ang Kwento sa Likod ng Koleksyon

Anik-anik here, anik-anik there, anik-anik everywhere! Sa bag, sa ID, sa kwarto, sa damit—kahit saang sulok, may anik-anik na nakasabit o naka-display. Para sa iba, simpleng abubot lang ito. Subalit para sa mga kolektor, bawat piraso ay may kwento at halaga! Ano nga ba ang mayroon sa mga maliliit na bagay na ito at bakit ‘di natin maiwasang mangolekta? Tara! Alamin natin ang kwento sa likod ng anik-anik collection.

Nagmula sa salitang "anu-ano" ang terminong anik-anik na nangangahulugang kung anu-anong bagay na pagmamay-ari ng isang tao. Sa kasalukuyan, dumalas ang paggamit ng salitang “anik-anik”; binigyan pa nga ito ng mas tiyak na kahulugan ng karamihan bilang accessories sa iba't ibang bagay. Kung ikukumpara sa mga nakaraang henerasyon, maaaring tumutukoy ang anik-anik sa iba’t ibang bagay—mga figurine, rosaryo, vinyl records, at kahit lalagyanan o plastic bag ay kinokolekta nila. Ang ideyang ito ay matagal nang lumalaganap at mas binigyang kahulugan lamang ng makabagong henerasyon. Kamakailan, nauso at bumenta lalo sa mga kabataan ang mga blind box na naglalaman ng random na disenyo ng isang karakter—ilang halimbawa nito ay Labubu, Sonny Angel, Hirono, Smiski, Mofusand, at iba pa.

Ika ni Tif, “Naimpluwensyahan lamang ako nang maging uso kamakailan.” Ayon sa kaniya, nang maramdaman niya ang pag-reconnect sa mga kinagigiliwang gawain noon—tulad ng pangongolekta ng makukulay na aksesorya at pagdidisenyo nito—unti-unti itong naging bahagi ng kaniyang identidad. Sa kasalukuyan, ang mga pabitin at alahas na dati'y laruan lamang ay nagsisilbing dekorasyon sa katawan at simbolo ng kaniyang personal na estilo.

Tulad kay Arianne, mayroon ding sentimental value kay Nica Lagradilla ng 11-Alcala ang mga kinokolekta niyang anik-anik. “Bukod sa kung regalo ito, at naaalala ako ng isang tao sa pamamagitan ng anik-anik, o may halaga sa akin ang taong nagbigay nito, usually mayroon ding memory na naka-associate sa mga anik-anik ko,” pagpapatuloy niya.

“Ex-best friend ko…”, tugon ni Cassius Andaya ng 9-Xenon nang tanungin kung sino ang nag-udyok sa kaniya sa pangongolekta ng mga anik-anik.

Ika naman ni Esther Gabuat ng 12-Kagalingan, kahit ang mismong presensya lang ng mga anik-anik ay nagbibigay-tuwa sa kaniya. “Sadyang natutuwa lang ako kapag nakakakita ako ng mga anik-anik kaya ako nagsimulang mangolekta,” aniya.

Maliban sa kasiyahang dala ng anik-anik, may higit pa itong dulot para sa mga estudyante. Sa pamamagitan ng pagbuo ng mga koleksyon, naipapakita nila ang kanilang mga katangian na sumasalamin sa kanilang buong pagkakakilanlan at nagsisilbi itong tulay upang makakonekta sa mga taong may kaparehong hilig. Para kay Arianne, naipapakita nito ang pagmamahal nilang magkakaibigan sa bawat magkakaterno nilang anik-anik; nagbibigay-inspirasyon din ito sa kaniyang paglikha ng sariling mga disenyo. May nakasabit na memorya sa bawat anik-anik na pagmamay-ari nila—lugar man na napuntahan o mula sa mga taong nagbigay nito sa kanila.

Sa mga kolektor, tulad ng aming mga nakapanayam, ang bawat anik-anik na kanilang pagmamay-ari ay may taglay na alaala. 

Ibinahagi ni Caia ang kaniyang button pin na may nakalagay na “UPIS Pep Drummers” ay isang simbolo ng pagiging bahagi ng komunidad. "Feel ko po na part ako ng team o komunidad, dahil nakasulat na po siya on paper or in this case, on a pin," aniya. 

Nagkaroon naman si Tif ng isang keychain na kaniyang napanalunan sa claw machine. “Nalaglag din ito kaagad dahil hindi maganda ang kalidad ng keychain…sayang at maraming nasayang na load mula sa Timezone card,” ika niya. Naipapakita rito kung gaano kahalaga ang isang anik-anik—simple man o kakaiba. Naging memorable ang keychain, hindi lamang dahil sa kaniyang nagastos dito, kundi sa danas kung paano niya napagtagumpayang makuha. 

Ayon kay Cassius, "Mayroon akong special na pin na binigay sakin ng ex-best friend ko na nasa ID ko pa rin kahit nag-F.O. (friendship over) na kami." Ang button pin na iyon ay isang simbolo ng pag-alala sa kaniyang dating kaibigan.

Para naman kay Arianne, naging malapit sa kaniyang puso ang lalagyanan niyang hugis-pusa. "Ang lalagyan na hugis pusa... si Toro Inoue... isa ito sa mga pinakaunang binili ko noong pandemya," aniya. 

Itinuturing naman ni Nica bilang isa sa mahahalagang anik-anik ang evil eye at four-leaf clover phone charm na gawa ng kaniyang matalik na kaibigan. Ika niya, "Ang pagtaboy ng bad juju (malas) at pag-welcome ng good luck sa buhay ko at sa aming pagkakaibigan ay something that I really value."

Ibinahagi naman ni Esther ang kaniyang mga anik-anik na nakuha bilang freebies sa concert at mga pasalubong galing sa kaniyang kaibigan. 

Sila rin ay may karanasan na sa paggawa ng sariling mga anik-anik tulad ng keychains, phone charms, button pins, at stickers. Katulad ni Arianne, siya ay may negosyong anik-anik—nagbebenta siya ng mga customized button pins na may laking 1.5 inches sa halagang dalawampung piso sa pamamagitan ng pre-order form na matatagpuan sa kaniyang business account sa Instagram na @solaris.pins.

Sa pagkolekta ng mga anik-anik, mayroong mga nag di-DIY o "Do It Yourself", nagko-customize, at ginagamit ito bilang accessories sa pananamit. Ganito naipapakita ng bawat estudyante ang kanilang pagkamalikhain sa simpleng pamamaraan. Isa na rito si Caia na gumagawa ng phone charms at keychains bilang paraan ng pagpapakita ng kanyang personal na estilo. Samantalang si Tif, na nahilig sa paggawa ng keychains mula sa mga stuffed toys, ay nagpapamalas ng kaniyang pagkamalikhain sa pamamagitan ng pagtatahi at pag-customize. Hindi rin magpapahuli si Cassius, na nag-eksperimento sa paggawa ng mga pins mula sa tansan. Si Esther, na mahilig sa pagko-crochet, ay gumagawa naman ng mga crochet keychains. Si Nica naman ay nakapagdisenyo na ng mga personalized stickers at gumagamit naman siya ng beads upang makagawa ng mga phone charms at bracelet. 

Higit pa sa positibong dala nito sa mga kolektor, isang tulong din ang pangongolekta para sa mga mayroong maliit na negosyo o nagbebenta ng mga anik-anik. Sa pamamagitan ng pagbili, bukod sa pinansyal na tulong sa manininda, nagbibigay-suporta rin ito sa mga sariling sikap sa paggawa ng anik-anik. Bukod sa paggawa at pagiging bahagi ng koleksyon, pinapatunayan din ng mga anik-anik na kahit pa maliit na mga bagay ay nagkakaroon ng malaking halaga sa ating buhay. Hindi rin nakabatay sa presyo ang halaga ng isang anik-anik, kundi sa kolektor nito at kung paano niya ito pahalagahan—mapa-simpleng keychain man o figurine. Maubos man ang espasyong paglalagyan ng koleksyon, patuloy pa rin ang interes ng mga kolektor sa pag-iipon ng mga anik-anik, dahil bukod sa pagiging palamuti, nagsisilbi rin itong alaala, inspirasyon, o simbolo ng personalidad ng isang tao. 

Bagaman kasalukuyang sikat ang mga anik-anik, matagal na itong nagbibigay ng kasiyahan, aliw, at pakiramdam ng koneksyon sa ating sarili at sa mga alaala ng ating karanasan. Ang pangongolekta ay isang simpleng paraan ng pag-alala at pagbuo ng koneksyon sa ating sarili at kapwa. Hindi lamang ito uso—isa itong paalala na tayong lahat ay may kaniya-kaniyang kwento na nais ingatan, bigyang-halaga, at ibahagi.

Album Review: Various Artists - Grateful: The Music Plays the Band

In a world where virtually nothing is surprising, Grateful: The Music Plays the Band is a nice surprise.

Released to benefit Grateful Guitars Foundation’s music-in-schools efforts, the 17-track compilation features such family members as David Nelson (“Friend of the Devil”) and Oteil Burbridge (“Stella Blue”); tribute acts like Bertha: Grateful Drag (“One More Saturday Night”) and John Kadlecik (“So Many Roads”); and acolytes like Katie Skene and Andrea Whitt, who turn in a steely, countrified “Candyman” that’s among the record’s highlights.

Many of the artists and songs (Dark Star Orchestra on “Jack Straw” and “Morning Dew,” ALO on “They Love Each Other” and Cubensis on “The Music Never Stopped”) are little more than cover bands aping the Dead. That leaves outliers like La Horsa Bianca singing “China Cat Sunflower” -> “I Know You Rider” in their native Ukrainian, Afro Dead’s Cuban-leaning “Dark Star” and Jerry’s Middle Finger offering the Garcia Band’s arrangement of Eric Clapton’s “See What Love Can Do” as the most-interesting cuts.

Alex Jordan & Friends (“Peggy-O”); Michael James Wheeler (“Loser), Doom Flamingo (“Touch of Grey”), Unlimited Devotion (“Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodeloo”) and Brown Eyed Women (“Sugaree”) also appear.

The result is a bunch of good songs for a really great cause.

Those are the ABS-CBN strip teasers that resemble as the group from the 2015 Girls X Heroine series, Secret X Heroine Phantomirage. They are known as The Legendary Wizards from the Harry Potter series from Disney. Before these wizards are created. The group was intended to use 3 crew members, Carmina Villaroel, Eugene Domingo and Nora Aunor who are the original actors of ABS-CBN in the 90’s. But somehow, They refused to become wizards in the GMA sitcom show Lokomoko. Instead, They used new actors, Carla Abellana, Andrea Torres and Bianca Umali. Somehow, Marian Rivera is the only actor who started her career early at ABS-CBN in the early 1990’s. But Carla Abellana and Bianca Umali started their careers at ABC-5 in 2000 with Rico Barrero, Tom Rodriguez and Hayden Kho. Eventually, Andrea Torres started her career on TV5 in 2005 as a kid but she moved to ABS-CBN in 2010 when she was 16 years old. Somehow, She is going to be the youngest wizard of the team. Marian Rivera was born in November 11, 1977 and is confirmed to be the eldest wizard of the team. But eventually, Marian Rivera started her acting career when she was 15 years old in 1992. Sadly, She moved to TV5 from 2005. When Marian Rivera left ABS-CBN in 2005, She was replaced by Iza Calzado although she started her career on ABS-CBN since 2005. But Marian Rivera returned to ABS-CBN in 2015 for the 65th anniversary special kicking Iza Calzado out of the team. Somehow, Carla Abellana was born in September 11, 1984. She was 7 years younger than Marian Rivera. Somehow, Bianca Umali was born in February 20, 1986. Luckily, She is 2 years younger than Carla Abellana and lastly Andrea Torres, She was born in June 20, 1994. She is the youngest wizard of the team. She started her career at her young age on TV5 in 2005 but she moved to ABS-CBN in 2010 when she is growing up just like Angelica Panganiban, Alex Gonzaga and Cristine Reyes who are the youngest ABS-CBN princesses. Andrea Torres is known to be part of the fifth batch of Goin Bulilit with David Licauco, Vince Gamad and Lianne Valentin. This is also the third Girls X Heroine series to air on ABS-CBN.

The next day

Sunlight was already picking through the curtains when Y/N woke up. Her head was hurting, like someone was hitting it from inside. She tried to get herself up, but some weight was keeping her pinned against the mattress. She turned her head and saw a blond head she knew too well. Sure, her and Paul were big on physical touch but sleeping like this never happened. She carefully shifted to see the room without letting go of Paul’s embrace.

Y/N observed the room and the people in it. She could recognize Kimi and Ollie on the couch opposed to her, the older spooning the other. She had a moment of confusion, but she knew Kimi and Ollie had always been big on PDA even as friends. She kept looking around, checking if all her friends did make it back to the apartment. Arvid, Dino, Maya and Bianca were all sleeping on the floor with some blanket resting on them. And on the armchair, you could find Abbi and Doriane literally glued to each other, managing to fit in the tight chair. Y/N tried to get up to go eat something but all the moving and shifting in Paul’s arm woke him up.

“Hi princess!” he said with the sleepiest voice ever.

“Hi baby!” she responded, hugging him tighter.

Then she got up, after spending a few minutes convincing Paul to let her go. Y/N walked to the kitchen, open the door and faced Charles, Max, Oscar and Lewis. She brutally closed the door before reopening it. “Good morning, everybody!”

“Good afternoon actually!” Charles pointing the clock on the wall. He was right, it was indeed way past noon. 3pm actually.

“So, what’s the reason for the visit?” said Y/N trying to act cool in front of her 4 grid-dad.

“Humm…You don’t remember last night, do you?” Oscar asked.

“Euuh no …?” She responded.

“Well, we have a little explanation to do when everyone wakes up” Oscar sighed.

Max stood up and entered the living room to shout, “EVERYONE WAKES UP NOW!” The mass of teen made a groaning sound, some of them complaining about their head. There was also some confusion like Abbi and Dorianne who were looking at each other, not understanding the how and why they were like this. Same for Kimi and Ollie. After a couple minutes, the other older driver entered the room and told everyone to sit and listen to them.

“You kids are fucking mental; you should definitely know that! Before we start scolding each of you, do you actually remember what happened yesterday?” Charles was endorsing his role as the principal grid-dad of those kids.

“I remember that we met up here, we drank maybe one or two beers then we went to the bar.” said Kimi, rubbing his eyes.

“Yes, and Y/N picked up a worksite cone and put it on her head.” Gaby completed.

“I remember something about Ollie and Kimi, and Abbi and Dorianne, like they kissed or something like that” Arvid said earning some weird looks from the four.

Bianca finished their story and added “I remember Y/N got stuck on a tree, we called Oscar to help but Paul got her back before he arrived.”

“Well we have a base to work on” Max said pinching the bridge of his nose.

“It’s actually not that bad, I thought they would black out like completely.” said Lewis.
