Just had a thought.
For those who say the finale ended perfectly for Dean and that he was always meant to die and never get out of hunting, and Sam was always meant to live and have a family and get out of hunting, do you not remember how Swan Song ended?
That was Kripke's original ending, his literal swan song. He even speaks through Chuck. We see Sam at the end of the episode for the opening to be left for the next season and for the new showrunner Sera Gamble to pick up the baton. But this was what Kripke wanted to achieve.
Dean wasn't dead and he did get out of hunting, going to live a normal life that he promised Sam he would.
Sam sacrificed himself (as the Luke Skywalker character) in order to save Dean and humanity. He's not really dead and he has found Dean again.
Neither brother was dead. When we see Sam again, we don't know what the circumstances are, if he's hunting again or not. Dean is out of hunting and he got what he dreamed he wanted.
It doesn't matter what Sera then did with the show after that. The point is this was Kripke's ending. And neither Winchester was killed off.
So you can sit there and say Dean was never meant to get out of hunting, or that he was always meant to die, and Sam would live a half life, but it's bullshit. Had the show ended right here, that would have been the real ending (and a better one compared to whatever that series finale dumpster fire was).
Which is exactly why 15x19 would have made the better ending after the later seasons. It was still the brothers in the end. Still pure SPN. And it would have been left open-ended which would have left room for a continuation down the line.
Tragic indeed.

Anti Dean posts have become so interesting to me. The last post I saw was literally this:
Them: "Dean stans only stan Dean because they love/stan Jensen"
I go to look at the blog who posted this nonsense and sure enough, 92.8% of their posts are anti Jensen
The rest of their posts: Sam stan and Jared stan
Me:
Girl, do you own a mirror?
