what are your thoughts on watcher’s new announcement?

So.

I've been watching the Boys since they started back in 2016 (i think around that era), and honestly I'm very conflicted about the decision. I've read so much stuff in favor and against the announcement and I don't know if my answer will satisfy you.

I have managed a community and I have the blessing and curse of being somewhat of a Name, experiencing the ordeal of being Known, and I can tell you that 1)you can never please everyone 2)people will always rush to crush you the second you do something they don't agree with 3)people will always twist everything you do with the worst faith in mind and 4)fandom forget very quickly that at the end of the day you are just human.

I think they made a calculated risk based on a purely economical viewpoint. I think they considered their loyal fanbase and how willing people have been so far with spending extra cash to support them — The live shows, the exclusive streams (like the Valentine's Too Many Spirits) and Patreon. How much of their fanbase was the "broke students" tumblr claim they are and how much was people with spending money willing to pay extra for them.

I also think that the decision seem stupid if you look at it from the perspective of "why the hell would I pay $6 to watch such little variety of content?" and that's a Correct Assumption, but Observe — they have been very slowly pulling everyone that made Buzzfeed famous and enrolling them in. Very recently they gathered the Worth It boys, the second show that kind of carried Buzzfeed back in the day (apart from the Try Guys). I think they can't talk about it right now, but the goal is to relaunch Buzzfeed but without ads and without making it the soulless content machine it became. I think their dream and goal has always been making what Buzzfeed could have been with better management, kind of like "If I was the Management in this company, things would have been better" dream fulfillment. That's why they made the direct jump to a streaming service instead of the logical steps of Patreon-exclusive content or even jumping to Nebula like other youtubers. It was never meant to stay one single channel, it was supposed to be bigger.

Is the projection of making a "better Buzzfeed" worth risking this step? Time will tell. I don't know. I personally never cared about anyone except Buzzfeed Unsolved. I still watch Unsolved on repeat. Is my comfort show. Maybe they are overestimating how much people care about other shows not hosted by them.

Although they did hint that "we want shows not hosted by us". This tells me that they are settling down, they want to ramp down a little bit, do the hook with Ghost Files aka Unsolved Supernatural Lite for the streaming service, and once people are hooked, launch more shows by the old-school Buzzfeed people. Won't be as big as a show hosted by Shane and Ryan, but it will still make people feel like they are getting their money's worth.

I would forgive all of this if only they didn't use the excuse of "if we want to do Netflix-level productions we need money". I'm sorry but that means nothing to me. We loved them when it was a powerpoint slide show with 2 idiots in a set. We didn't fall in love with the toys or the trips or the high tech. We didn't fall in love with the fancy animations at the beginning of Ghost Files episodes that they are so proud of. That was all their idea.

I've seen this trend of content creators ramping up their creations to an unsustainable point, completely crash and burn and then having to apologize about having to step back. Then making it the moral trap of an argument that they have been doing their best to bring quality content to their audience, and of course making it impossible to argue against. If you speak up and say "well we never asked you to break your back" then you are ungrateful audience. That's exactly what's going on in here with the Watcher announcement — "true fans" criticizing people who point out the fact that they created this money problem on their own. Is not the fanbase responsibility to cater to a company's bad money decisions. Is not our fault that they decide to scale up their operation to a point they "haven't been making a profit for 2 years". It's unfair that the fans are at each other's throats for daring stepping back and saying "I don't want to be part of this".

I don't think Watcher Entertainment is actively wanting to collapse their fandom like this. I don't think this was a calculated move. But I do think that they are a group of adults trying to make a career of something they enjoy doing. I think they made this move with the perspective that fandom is not end all and they can always rebuild it.

— And that they are planning on making a machine that can work without them, and that requires breaking something in the fans, it requires kicking themselves out of the pedestal fans have put them on. They know they won't be allowed to have a normal life until people stop looking at them waiting for them to say their phrase.

In conclusion I think they made a choice that made sense if they are planning on separating Watcher Entertainment from "The Ghoul Boys" fame, and it makes sense if they are aiming at something bigger than what they've been doing now. Money of course is the goal and the reason presented, but there's a lot that they are not saying and we will not know until it happens.

Until then, it does feel like they have just shot their careers in the foot.

Also I'm salty that I can't join the service because I'm outside the US.

Moistcritikal talking shit about rwby is so funny to me, I haven't watched the clip yet but I know he's probably right

I noticed on Twitter that some fans are mad because he brought up Monty and how his work was cool but the show is so bad now, and I gotta say this:

The dude's right. You can't not mention RWBY without mentioning Monty, it's his creation, and literally all Moistcritikal said was:

"No I know Monty created it, I remember when it first came out and it was cool. Monty's work was always extraordinary, but whatever's become of this show is awful."

There's no mention of Monty's vision or how the writers are ruining his show. All Moistcritikal did was acknowledge that Monty made the show, which he did, that his work was cool, which it was, and now the show sucks, which it does. But fans get so mad whenever Monty is mentioned while ignoring all the times stans bring him up to build up their own arguments.

Either everyone can use Monty's name, or no one can. Go after fans saying that Monty planned this and Monty wanted this when none of us even know him. The dude was notorious for adding things into the show and not planning; the main conflict with the Maidens is living proof of that.

Just stop being hypocritical, I'm so tired of it.

Just turned 23, have any advice for me? 💓

oh wishing you a belated happy birthday 💕 well i turned 23 in summer of 2020 so that was a very very weird time in everyone’s life, and i still feel like the pandemic “stole” a lot of my early/mid twenties. looking back at those years i wish i’d stressed less about uni and spent more time with my friends or honing/learning new skills. i put so much academic pressure on myself which in hindsight wasn’t worth it at all. instead of trying out new stuff and exploring myself beyond an academic context i just stuck to the things i knew and felt comfortable with. so my advice is branch out, hang out with your friends (because scheduling meet ups will become sooooo frustrating once everyone has fully entered the professional world), learn new skills or take up new hobbies, do not place too much value on academic or professional achievements, there is nothing like “reaching your full potential” whatever you do is always good enough as long as it’s right for you, take yourself on a date at least once a month, always carry around some ibuprofen & pads/tampons in your purse/wallet, go out into nature & if you have the chance spend a night stargazing where there is no light pollution, get that second helping or piece of cake, be open to human connection (however fleeting), immerse yourself in art (whatever kind), use the nice things you buy for yourself and don’t wait for the right time/occasion, drink enough water, travel (if you have the means) & send the people in your life postcards, send yourself postcards (!!!), give yourself grace but also confront your shortcomings, take up cooking/baking/making drinks and share it with family/friends…… all things you can do well beyond your early twenties and all quite generic but that’s just because i found there to be a lot of truth in it for me.

<333 so!! these first two are actually kind of connected.

i started writing red hood's robin first, and then i decided i wanted to do an omegaverse take, which spiraled into pack. and THEN i shared pack with @deepwithintheabyss, who gave me the idea for "sweetness of honey." (the rr vampire au came after "pack"--i had a very specific craving at the time 😂)

editing in some further context bc i realized i forgot to. add that. lmao

in “red hood’s robin” jason still tries to steal the batmobile tires and batman takes him to ma gunn’s. the theater thing doesn’t happen, though. instead, he ditches the house and ends up back on the streets.

it’s inspired by a fic i read—one by iselsis, i will link the exact one in a bit <3

“pack” starts more similarly to “the sweetness of honey” though jason isn’t being given as a gift this time, lol.

Isn’t it past your bedtime?” The boy bristles, a scowl on his face. “I don’t think that’s any of your business,” he says brashly—but there’s a slight waver to his tone, and his gaze darts down to one of Tim’s guns. Tim is still impressed. If he wasn’t so unnerved, he’d be a damn good liar. “I think it is,” Tim says conversationally. He leans against the alley wall, hoping to put the kid at ease at least a little. “You know, you have me at a disadvantage. You know my name, but I don’t know yours.” The boy fidgets for a second, and says, with conviction, “Peter.” Tim just nods, despite being sure it’s a lie. It’s almost definitely his ‘working name’, which turns Tim’s stomach. He ignores it. “Well, Peter—I don’t know if you’ve heard, but… I’ve got a bit of a thing against children standing street corners.” The boy looks shifty again, before screwing his face in something like disgust. “What, the Red Hood’s against loitering now?” Tim laughs, amused again despite himself. It feels… good. Makes him conscious of just how little he’s been laughing lately. “You know damn well that’s not what I meant,” he says, amused. “But, sure, kid, I’m against loitering. And I think you and I need to have a chat.” The kid’s face turns ashen. Tim winces, and immediately reassures him— “You’re not in trouble. I’m not going to hurt you.”

There’s something wrong with Jason’s nest. No matter how many times he readjusts it, it’s still... lacking. It shouldn’t be. It has more bedding than Jason has ever had access to in his life, making it just as plush as he’d always craved. There are lots of blankets, too, soft and thick and warm. And the nest is drenched in his scent. No one would stumble upon it and think it had been abandoned. But it’s still— Wrong. Jason whines, deep in his chest. It’s loud, louder than he could usually afford to be, living on the streets or at home, but he doesn’t care. He’s tired and sore and he just wants to rest, but he can’t, because his nest is wrong and bad and he doesn’t know how to fix it. It isn’t fair! He climbs out of it. Maybe he can tell what’s wrong with it if he looks at it differently. Moving backwards, towards the window, he tilts his head. From here, he can see the problem. His nest is big—empty. A little omega like himself isn’t nearly enough to fill it. Jason frowns. And then he hears footsteps. They sound like they’re a few rooms away, but it’s all Jason needs to remember—he’s not alone. There’s an alpha here, too! An alpha who gave him such nice nesting material to work with, and a good den to build in. So why isn’t the alpha in here with him? …had Jason been bad? He doesn’t remember being bad, but… it would make sense. Jason is always bad. Mama and some of his teachers had disagreed, but they’d been the only ones. His sire was always mad at him for something, and after mama died, well— Jason’s done a lot of bad things now, and maybe it was because he had to, but— It doesn’t matter. Most of it still makes him feel awful. Jason slumps a bit. He doesn’t want to be bad. He wants to be good, and to curl up in his nice plush nest with the alpha that’s been so good to him. Oh! Of course! The nest! Surely, once the alpha sees how comfortable and plush Jason’s nest is, he’ll want to stay, and he won’t be mad anymore. Or at least he’ll be willing to give Jason a chance. Brightened, he climbs back into the nest, swaddling a blanket around his shoulders. He takes a breath and then pack calls, trying not to sound too needy. (His sire had never liked needy pups.) The apartment quiets—not that there had been much noise before. Jason waits, holding still and trying to be patient. He’s rewarded by the steps resuming, though this time drawing closer. The alpha raps on the door, and waits for Jason to respond with another, softer, call before he finally enters. Jason whuffs in greeting, pleased. The alpha looks… confused, but he smiles at Jason. He can’t be real mad, then—though Jason knows adults are good at hiding that, sometimes—so Jason smiles back. “You’ve built a lovely nest, Jason,” the alpha says, and Jason preens. He knew the alpha would be pleased. It really is a very nice nest. “Alpha,” Jason says, request and demand all in one. He pats the nest. The alpha’s brows raise, just a little; and then his mouth twists. Jason’s stomach sinks. “I don’t… know if that’s a good idea,” the alpha says slowly. Jason can’t help it. He whines. His sire always hated it when he got whiny, but— He’s tired and sore and he just— He wants— “Please? I’m sorry, I’ll be good, I promise!” The alpha’s face crumples, and he immediately drops to his knees beside the bed. His arms raise, as if to hold Jason, before dropping again. Jason scrambles forward, another little whine in his throat, and the alpha catches him in his arms, pulling him down into the floor and cradling him. Jason grips tightly to the back of his shirt, burying his face in his neck. He’s warm, and he smells so safe. “Oh, pup,” he murmurs. “You didn’t do anything wrong. I’m sorry—I didn’t mean to upset you.” He strokes Jason’s curls, swaying them slightly. “I just—” He cuts himself off and sighs, holding Jason a little bit tighter; smelling of guilt, but also enough affection to make Jason warm to his toes. “I would be happy to nest with you, Jason.”

His dress flirts with old-fashioned modesty; the flared black skirt and petticoat falling three inches above his knees. There are accessories she can’t see, but which she knows are there—a golden band wrapped around his finger, and a clutch of pearls around his neck, almost a choker. Almost a collar. Steph plasters herself against his back and hooks her chin over his shoulder. She doesn’t bother resisting the urge to grope his ass through his skirt, delighting in the way he shivers. “What’s cooking?” she asks. “Beef stew,” he says. “And fresh bread. It’ll be out of the oven soon.” Steph kisses his neck. Perfect—gives her some time to slip into something more appropriate. “Good. I’m starving.” She smacks his ass when she pulls away. He sucks in a sharp, surprised breath, an absolutely adorable blush on his face. There’s an extra bounce in her step as she makes her way to the bedroom. ive been seeing all your posts about Warrior nun and im wondering should i watch It???

Yes. Yes. Yes. I will always recommend it. Season 1 is incredible. Season 2 is, somehow, five times that. It's a beautifully paced show - it knows it's a little silly but it also takes itself incredibly seriously when it needs to - the characters are superbly written, and it has one of the best-written sapphic slowburns I've ever seen. There's so much going on in terms of representation, pacing, and character work; it feels like the writers and creator actually care about the characters (wild for a netflix show, I know), and it's genuinely good. There are some shows that I like that aren't the best, and I'll usually admit that. Warrior Nun is genuinely good.

I will be a broken husk of a person if there isn't a season 3. I'm already broken, but like. In a different way.
